The song is rumored to be Scotty’s next single

Random! Dutch iTunes is selling Scotty McCreery‘s alternate coronation tune. You know, the one he didn’t pick.  I couldn’t actually download “Out of Summertime”, but I was able to grab the 30 sec clip:

A little background on the tune:  It was written by Nashville hit-makers Tim Nichols and Jonathan Singleton. Nichols’ e résumé includes Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying,” Joe Nichols’ “She Only Smokes When She Drinks,” Lee Ann Womack’s “I’ll Think of a Reason Later,” Faith Hill’s crossover hit “A Baby Changes Everything,” and Trace Adkins’ “This Ain’t No Thinkin’ Thing.”

Singleton has written tunes for artists including Billy Currington (“Don’t”), David Nail (“Red Light”), and Gary Allan (“Watching Airplanes”).

“Out of Summertime” was produced by Carrie Underwood producer Mark Bright, and came to the attention of the Idol peeps when they reached out to BMI looking for a song. Read the entire story of “Out of Summertime” HERE.

I have to say I like this better than “I Love You This Big”, but it’s not really a coronation-type song.  Which is probably why I prefer it.

    Thanks MJ.. I think Scotty is gonna give Underwood a run for her idol supremacy. He sounds like a solid Country singer and I really hope he does well. I’m not a big Country fan, but I can appreciate good Country talent.. just like Carrie. The minute I saw those two audition, I knew they had the goods.. didn’t know if they would win, but knew they would get a chance in the industry.

    This song is waaaay better than the BIG song. I don’t think it matters what coronation song they select. By then minds are made up in the voting.

    Scotty could really have a huge hit with this. Especially if he’s selling with the melody-lacking cheesy coronation song.

    I actually think the melody and production of the studio recording of ‘This Big’ are really strong. It is the lyrics that let it down. He sings it well too.

    The production is strong, yes. He does do a fantastic job with it. Perhaps you’re right. I guess I just can’t get past the lyrics. He really is selling the song. However, I do think that the chorus should be more dynamic. It’s where I think the song lacks. It starts to be a little more attention-grabbing when it hits the key change, but that’s about it. Though, he’s made me a country fan, so I guess that says something. :P

    Eileen99 : I like ILYTB better after hearing the entire song. Admittedly, I’m primarily a Pop/HAC listener with a casual interest in people like Jason Aldean, Lady A, Keith Urban, etc., and this is a little too country for me.

    THIS! ILYTB is country enough to pass approval of country music listener whilst leaning a bit towards country pop to capture HAC listeners as well. Thought it was a very smart move/pick.

    Much better than I Love You This Big, but it would not have appealed to the voters as much as ILYTB did. It will make an excellent second single, probably sell more than the first one.

    Wow this song sounds like a future #1! It could have been recorded by Kenny, Tim, or any big star out there today. Scotty is on the right track!

    ITA that this is the type of song that would be very successful for Scotty. It has that wistful high school longing, like “You Belong With Me”, and is age-appropriate.

    After listening to this I feel relief. The production and his singing made the other song worth listening to. The lyrics were a problem. If they find him songs like this he’ll do well.

    I don’t hear any traces of “somebody trying to be Josh Turner.” He is getting his own distinctive sound which is important. Neither of his songs I have heard so far are Josh Turner “copycat” songs, despite what a lot of people were speculating his music to be like. I think those radio stations who dissed him for being a “2nd rate Josh Turner” will be eating up their words!(If they haven’t already).

    I love this song!!! I think he will have a hit on his hands with Out of Summertime. Can’t wait to be able to buy it. I agree. He sounds nothing like Josh Turner. He’s got his own style and distinctive sound.

    Not at all a fan of country music (I don’t mind country/pop crossover stuff) – BUT- I can see where this would be a huge huge hit for Scotty. This kid is not going to be a flash in the pan- and to that I say good for him, he really does seem like a great kid (I would say anybody would be proud to call him their son)- I wish him well.

    (And who knows? Maybe he will have great crossover success- even where I live, here in Pia country, my little 8th grade students have started to squeal “Scotty’s soooooooo cuuttttttttttteeeeeeeee”, lol).

    I think it sounds like a hit. Wow, UMG is doing well by Scotty. If this is his second single from the upcoming album and they release this at the end of summer, he is going to be in a good position with airplay when his album drops.

    I’m not sure if releasing his single overseas and then letting it get spread all over youtube is doing well by him. We’ll see.

    A lot of bango and drums…I had to get used to that a bit….but all in all I really liked this Out of Summertime song. It’s another one that I’ve tended to keep going back and listening to, and now it’s stuck in my head. I guess it’s too early to predict success for him, but I sure do think they are on the right track with him.

    I prefer ‘I love you this big’. It’s a song that just grows on you after listening to it a few times. I love the lyrics and especially the part after ‘if I could, I would …………….’ I wish Scotty would just sing the whole song or at least not leave out that part. It would be nice if he can sing different parts of the song at different talk shows or performances so that there is some variety. The song shows his low deep voice and does justice to his voice. Just my thoughts.
