Phlllip Phillips’ Mom Arrested for DUI

Phillip Phillips mom, Sheryl Phillips, was arrested for DUI earlier today, reports TMZ:

Phillip Phillips’ mother Sheryl Phillips — who appeared on several episodes of “American Idol” during Phillip’s championship run last season — was arrested for DUI earlier today, TMZ has learned.

Law enforcement officials tell us, an undercover unit observed Sheryl swerving her van across lanes of traffic in Albany, Georgia — and pulled her over.

We’re told … based on what officers observed after the stop … they had reason to believe Sheryl was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

According to law enforcement, officers administered a field sobriety test and Sheryl was unable to complete it.

Cops took her into custody and transferred her to a nearby hospital, where doctors decided she was well enough to go to jail. She’s currently being booked in Dougherty County.

A source close to the family tells us, Phillip’s parents split up last week.

I don’t really have anything to say about this. Nope. I really don’t. Hang in there, Phillip.

    I was counting down the moments until the bitching began about why this thread exists.  

    Remember, Phillip’s parents actually APPEARED on Idol. They were PART OF THE SHOW. As such. THEY ARE FAIR GAME HERE. I explain this EVERY TIME an Idol parent winds up on TMZ and the such.  The next time an Idol relative makes the news, I’m sure I’ll be explaining myself all over again.

    Fame and fortune, be careful what you wish for.  With it comes the hordes who think they have a right to open every closet in your life. P2 seems like a genuine guy who just wanted to make music, I am sure he wasn’t even thinking of this downside that his life was no longer his own. Sounds like his mom was on a prescription drug perhaps to overcome the stress of a separation and having all her laundry strung out on the public line.  Doesn’t make her ignoring the warning not to operate heavy machinery right, but sounds like she needs more help than the american way of taking a pill to make it go away.

    Since the police did not detect any alcohol, it’s possible she wasn’t on any drug or drink. Being very emotionally upset can have the same effect. I saw this with my mother driving to her husband’s funeral. A police officer stopped her with a whole list of traffic violations he had just watched her commit, and she hadn’t taken a thing.

    The local Fox station in Albany is reporting that it doesn’t appear to be alcohol related, but further details have not been released. The good news is that of the hundreds of comments left by locals 99% of them are hugely supportive of her & the family. The gist of the comments is that it’s a good family, & the ‘news’ should have waited until the facts were known. If it’s medical, let’s hope she doesn’t drive again until the problem is resolved.

    tucker davis, I see the same comments in many stories where the networks (Not just Faux, to be fair about it) rushed in with a story full of errors and then had to constantly update with corrections. We can all likely think of examples, and these are often actual journalists who ought to know better. With a 24/7 news cycle, they are all under pressure to bring ‘something’ – and we get this slipshod reporting as a consequence. It’s not cool.

    TMZ, OTOH, are not journalists, don’t care about factual, never have, they are making a headline from a ‘hook’  to get hits for their site – facts are irrelevant, not even necessary to the story they write -  and if they’ve ever put up a correction that says “we were wrong”, I have yet to hear about it.

    IDK what the take-away is – all news sites can be in error sometimes, but some news sites are always in error? Or maybe, just keep a large supply of salt grains for ‘anything’ TMZ has to say before jumping to believe it as gospel… They are not much of a primary news source for facts, IMO.

    She also failed to pass a field sobriety test when they removed her from the car. Here are the standard tests. Defense lawyers can certainly find cause to say that any such test was not appropriate for the driver in question (asking an overweight person to perform the one-leg test, for example), but we don’t have any information to assume that officers acted inappropriately or rashly here.

    Of course, she deserves a chance to defend herself but I, personally, would feel incredibly irresponsible if I had driven a vehicle in a state where I couldn’t pass the horizontal gaze nystagmus test, for any reason.

    Sad situation for everyone involved. Luckily, nobody was hurt. I hope that P2′s mom gets the help and support she needs to move past this.

    Of course I get this piece of it but that doesn’t make it any less sad for her as well I do not see life in black and white it must be nice to be able to do that.

    whoa!!! tsk! tsk!!! i don’t know what to say!!!  hhhmmm..wait… i just hope PP is fine and his family will be fine too. I think they are a good family..It’s just maybe the fame. PP is a great guy..God bless u PP!!

    I just love Phillip all the more. He was sick threw the whole of and on of american idol. was just himself, didnt try to be  or change anything or anyway he sang.. He worked hard and IT IS NOT HIS FAULT WHAT HIS FAMILY DOES…. , Most of us know what family problems do and Im just hopeing PHilip doesnt suffer.. Maybe thats why he is so kind , humble and thankful for everything and everyone. Maybe thats why he doesnt spend all of his money as he see,s what happened to his family… GREAT JOB PHILLIP….
