This is what Paula Abdul had to say Tuesday at the Television Critics Association meeting about last month’s dust-up over the death of Paula Goodspeed:

Paula Abdul, declaring her loyalty to “American Idol,” denied criticizing the Fox TV series over airtime given to an alleged stalker.

“I am a big fan of the show. I am blessed to be on the show. It’s the greatest show on television all around the world and … a gazillion people would love to be in my shoes,” Abdul said at a meeting Tuesday of the Television Critics Association.

In December, Abdul told Barbara Walters in a radio interview that the Fox network and “Idol” producers knew that Paula Goodspeed had stalked her but allowed the woman to audition anyway.

Abdul told Walters that Goodspeed was brought on the hit program “for entertainment value.”

Goodspeed, who appeared on “Idol” several seasons ago, was found dead of an apparent suicide in a car near Abdul’s Los Angeles home last November.

Pressed about it Tuesday, Abdul denied saying “anything disparaging about `American Idol’ at all” or complaining to producers about Goodspeed.

Liar liar, pants on fire!

When a reporter pointed out that Abdul was quoted as saying she had warned producers about the woman, Abdul replied: “Well, that is true. But that’s that. I can’t talk about it anymore. It’s an ongoing police investigation.”

I wonder how those negotiations with TPTB for a new contract are going?

Right now, Paula might be expendable if she doesn’t improve. Kara was much better than her last night. How Kara stood up to Bikini Girl was EPIC!

Paula Abdul Backpedals, Denies Saying à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Anything Disparagingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ about Idol

    Of course she did.

I’d say she’s getting what she wants right about now.

As far as Kara, I need to see more. Right now, she might be trying a little too hard to make a lasting impression.

    Paula isn’t going anywhere.

I actually found Paula interesting and lucid last night. I haven’t followed the show before last season so I have no idea if she normally starts the season lucid and then begins declining, but I don’t know if the show would be the same without her. She makes the occasionally insightful comment (I won’t bring up the many unintelligible ones she also makes, lol) but I think the kids need at least one of the judges to try and find something positive to say for encouragement. I think she provides that. And heck, I just find her amusing when I’m not cringing at something she said.

I think Simon pretty much zeros in on what Paula’s problem is. Encouragement for someone who has some hope of success is one thing. Encouraging people who will never make it is just cruel. And Paula claiming she didn’t say anything disparaging about Idol to Barbara Walters? I guess you can do that when you don’t have both your feet firmly grounded in reality. Another case of Paula being unwilling to say anything critical to someone’s face.

What a crock! I saw her on GMA and The View saying precisely the same things. I know those shows don’t get AI’s numbers but I’m sure I wasn’t the only one watching! Paula is literally unbelievable.

LOL Backpedal indeed. I agree, it sounds like she got a better deal and that non-disparagement is a part of it. Of course, she seems to take that to mean she has to now affirmatively deny what she’d already said (that many peeps already heard. lol)

Paula’s Paula, but having just rewatched Season 7, I’m reminded to give her some credit for recognizing the artistry and emotional effect of performances that can sometimes escape the other two. She just “gets it” way more often than not, in my view. Maybe that was a phenomenon limited to last season, IDK.

I think often Paula presented a sympathetic and supportive role because she was the lone female. It helped many of the contestants. I am curious to see whether she will change her persona as we get deep into the show.

Of course, Paula is lying. Someone told her to cool it. I doubt that they said to deny everything, as it has been recorded. But with Paula, you never know.
