Ne-Yo Says He’s In Talks to Join X Factor USA

R&B singer, Ne-Yo just could not keep a secret on the Grammy red carpet tonight. He let slip to Ryan Seacrest that he is in talks to join the X Factor US judges’ panel. “It’s a conversation. Nothing is set in stone right yet. It’s talks.”

“There’s been a few lunches and dinners, but that’s all I can say right now.”

He also dished about the possibility of joining Simon Cowell as an X Factor judge in an interview with Extra host (and X Factor host!) Mario Lopez.

“I think it would be a great, great thing, I don’t want to talk to much about it, because I don’t want to get in no trouble… conversations have been had, but that’s about it.” He told Extra, “If it happens, I’d be more then willing to do so. I feel like I’ve been around long enough to have some vital information for someone on the way up, definitely.”

After a lackluster season 2, both LA Reid and Britney Spears announced that they would be leaving the X Factor judges’ panel. That leaves Simon Cowell, and, perhaps, Demi Lovato who is said to be renegotiating a new contract. But Demi’s return has yet to be officially announced.

Meh, I hope someone better gets the gig.

Ne Yo is one of the best singer and songwriters  of the last decade . he would be great.

  • Incipit

Heh. I had to look this person up on Google images and regular Google – I had no idea what he looked like or what he sang. Not a music genre I pay any attention to, obviously. I see there is mixed opinion about him right here – so who knows if he is a good replacement for Cee-Lo? ‘Current’ judges obviously don’t make for cutting edge winners, unless Cowell starts casting differently.

I remember LOVING NeYo on the Voice.  He’d be awesome except I’ve never watched even 5 seconds of the show….guess I’d miss out on his awesomeness cuz I doubt I’ll ever watch it.

  • jdanton2

Ne Yo has had several hits songs his biggest being So Sick which hit #1.  He also  wrote  #1 songs for Mario, Beyonce and Rihanna  . he has dueted with Idols  Jennifer Hudson twice and is supposedly on the first single from Jessica Sanchez’s first album. in fact it is possible if that happens he might perform on Idol this season though if he gets the X Factor gig he could be busy or might not be allowed to be on.

I recall he had one called because of you around the same time kelly’s BOY?  I’m too lazy to go look him up.  Seems like he one or two the same name as kelly’s hits.  I thought it was kinda funny.

    ps.  miss independent!

He was also Nicole Scherzinger’s guest judge on XF UK last year. I don’t remember him as having much personality.

  • Eilonwy

Yeah, Ne-Yo’s done a lot of successful songwriting, though he’s sort of second-tier himself in consistency of hits. He also seems to be smart and industry-savvy, plus his lyrics suggest he’s a lot more respectful of smart and capable women than Cowell is. He’d be an interesting pick in that he’s got the voice and some radio hits, and there’s also more to him than that.

I like Ne-Yo’s music – I’m not much of an R&B fan, but I have a bunch of his more popular singles. Season 8 Idol fans who saw the tour would have seen Anoop performing Ne-Yo’s “Mad.”

I don’t know anything about his personality, but I’m sure he couldn’t be less watchable than Demi, Britney, Simon and L.A.

  • tierbee

    I love him. But that’s all I got ;)

  • Ronnie D

He should avoid that sinking ship lol.

  • Tammy Luebrecht

I honestly don’t have a clue who he is. Of course, I don’t listen to R&B either.

I can’t believe so many here aren’t too familiar Ne-yo. I thought he was one of the big names in the current scene. Shows how much I know!

He’s good, though. I actually appreciate his songwriting ability more than his singing and performing. Don’t know why he’d want to attach himself to that junky show – he’s too good for it.

  • Aaron

It would be hilarious if Jessica Sanchez performed on X-Factor. I mean, she has a collaboration with Ne-Yo on her album.

  • DaisyMagnolia

Sadly, it seems that when many hear “R&B singer” they tune out.  They’re missing out with their bias. There are a number of quality singers/performers in that genre, arguably just as many there as in other sections of the musical universe.

  • ladymctech

As long as Simon stays on the show, I won’t be watching.

  • jdanton2

Jessica and Ne Yo’s duet will be released during the Idol season and it would be unlikely they would perform it on X Factor. though if he gets the gig i hope he gets to perform something on the X Factor.

  • Tinawina

I like him too much to wish this crappy show on him. Stay away NeYo!

  • Emmuzka

I have no idea if he would be good or not, but if X-facter gets him, it would look like the show would end up as the same kind of b-lister graveyard as Dancing with Stars, only a couple of steps above America’s Got Talent. And with the huge investing in X-factor, the show just cant take that.

  • LA944

I think SNL needs to do a sketch about all those in talks with XFactor.

  • itsalleternal

Fox ordered them to cut the production budget dramatically though, so A-list celebs are likely out of their price range, unless they are willing to accept a low price. Even if Simon may want them, Fox won’t.

Ne-Yo is a pretty clean living guy who is hardly ever in the tabloids. That’s why he’s less known outside the R&B world then, say, Chris Brown.

  • willis88

Sadly ppl on here don’t anything about r&b music if it’s not Rihanna and Beyonce they’re just lost. lol In fact, not just r&b Ne-Yo is pretty big in the music industry so it’s kinda surprising the comments on here but again urban music just not popular on here.

  • Niall

I think Ne-Yo could be a great addition as a mentor but after two seasons, it’s obvious that the show is badly flawed. It doesn’t ‘t matter who they put in the judges chair. Simon Cowell and his vision of the show is the problem.

  • Leandro

If you consider the new judge will be replacing Britney, anyone would be basically a progress.
