Monday Morning Mediabase Update: Dec 24-30

Christmas is over. Time to pack up the wrapping paper, tinsel and Christmas songs. AC and CAC begin to return to normal with some massive churn. The Chrismas songs plummet like stones while songs that were prominent prior to December surge back.

Once we sift through all the numbers, there seems to be only two milestones this week. One from Idol and one from X-Factor.

Phil Phillips, the latest American Idol winner, gets into the mix of returning non-Christmas songs and suddenly finds himself in the top 5 of AC. Usually, songs have to sit for a long time outside of the top 5 waiting for AC fans to grow tired of their favourites. But once you are in, you can stay forever. “Home” could still be in the top 10 of AC in May. The song has now gone top 5 in 3 formats (AC, HAC and AAA).

Over on Pop making milestones is X-Factor Season 6 runner-up, Olly Murs. His “Troublemaker” featuring the ever-present Flo Rida has entered the top 40.

Some of the notable returning songs on AC are Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” (top 3), Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe (top 10), One Direction’s “What Makes You Beautiful” (top 15) and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Good Time” (top 20).

Over on CAC, Jason Castro’s “Only a Mountain” returns back just outside the top 20 and Colton Dixon’s “You Are” returns to the chart in the top 30 (taking the largest leap of the week from 97th to 26th).

Adds listed on AllAccess:

This is the daily numbers thread for Monday. Stats collected on Monday morning.

  • LongKissGoodnight

Moved up from the previous thread.

Generally 2 weeks after Christmas/new year are rather generous to rock and indy acts, (as well as teen Idols of the moment) since it’s the music of choice for a lot of young people redeeming i-tunes gift carts, and exchanging physical albums.
So to make the most of it I-tunes is offering a special prise for the number if hot albums, among them is regular addition of Phillips ‘The World’ priced $6.99. That had just skyrocketed all the way up to #3 as a result!

There are only two albums in top 10 on i-tunes right now that are not part of this deal – the most resent release of the bunch Les Misérables’ Soundtrack, and of course the album of the holidays season – Red by Taylor Swift.
    The deal ends January 3d.

    3. The World from the Side of the Moon – Phillip Phillips
    48. The World from the Side of the Moon (Deluxe) – Phillip Phillips

So even if Phillip is not gonna make into BB200 top 10 for the last week of 2012, he is well positioned to make a comeback in 2013. ;)

  • girlygirltoo

Saw this on twitter. It refers to radio in the Philippines…

congrats to our very own @KrisAllen. Vision of love was part of mellow Top 100 year end countdown and ended at # 10 spot.

  • Anny_nanny

iTunes now: Phillip Phillips – Get Up Get Down #272 Estonia
    ))))))))

  • LongKissGoodnight

Oh, and congrats to Phil on new peak on AC.
We will have to wait for Mediabase to post their official chart (they usually do it on Tuesdays but with holidays it might take longer), but I think it is going to be #3, since he was 3d on Sunday morning and typically official updates and up closer to Sunday morning than Monday morning of the following week.
    But enough about Phillip…

    I Love ‘Troublemaker’!
Hope it is gonna end up a break out song for Olly (the early signs are extremely encouraging, we are likely looking at the early stages of another big hit, if not smash).
It is a shame that ‘Heart Skips a Beat’ never fully caught on.

  • jpfan2

Nice move on iTunes for P2.

MyMusicStore, “the Philippines’ biggest online music portal where you can download original music from both OPM and international artists”, released their list of Top 10 Most Downloaded Songs of 2012 today and David Archuleta held the #1 and #2 spot for the year with Forevermore and Nandito Ako, respectively. You can see the full top ten posted on their FB page here: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1772728&l=861fdad198&id=268603386493914

    Congrats to Archie :)

I saw that he also ended at #7 on the Radio RX Year-End Countdown!
There are lot of individual station lists but I’m about to post a few. I saw Kris on several of them.

  • hellomusicgirl

There are too many year-end radio station lists from the Phils to post them all but here are a few that had multiple Idol and Idol-related artists included:

They definitely love the American Idols in the Philippines, don’t they? :)

  • hellomusicgirl

They do!! I think it definitely trends more toward the pop/rock/r&b stuff though. I don’t remember seeing Carrie on any of the charts I’ve looked at and P2′s Home has been on a few things but not many. Not like it has been in the US anyway. Country and more folk-inspired music isn’t as wide-spread there.

One Direction has become very popular, with multiple songs on almost every countdown. But that seems to be worldwide lol.

  • LongKissGoodnight

Mediabase have posted their official chart for last week.
As I predicted Home’s new peak position on AC is #3!
Which means it vent top 3 on 3 formats (AAA, HAC, AC).

    ADULT CONTEMPORARY
    3  14 PHILLIP PHILLIPS Home 19/Interscope 910

    http://americasmusiccharts.com/index.cgi?fmt=A1&rtmref=americasmusiccharts

After the year-end countdowns are over I expect it might rise to #2. (Replacing Gotye at the top seems pretty damn near impossible.)

    Happy New Year!

    This cracks me up :D
HOME was a real stretch for “smooth jazz” but STRONGER?! Whatev, it’s good to notch another chart, I suppose.

  • LongKissGoodnight

Home has lost half a mil. AI on POP today, but has gained on HAC, AAA and a bunch on AC.
The sum result elevated it to 6th position on Overall Audience Impressions, if kworb’s method of collecting data is to be believed (it usually is rather reliable).

    6 PHILLIP PHILLIPS – Home 108.725 (+1.387)
    +1 position

I’ve tried to guess where it might end up on Hot100 this week, but just ended up giving myself a headache.
    LOL.
I give up! But that is gonna be interesting for sure.

  • jpfan2

Home looks like its done on CHR (but I’ve been fooled before). However it is increasing its overall audience so who knows when they’ll release GGG. I’m going to guess the same week that Idol returns.  I think that would be great timing!

  • LongKissGoodnight

In today’s update similarly to yesterday Home has lost some AI on POP and gained a whole lot on AC, HAC and AAA as part of January meltdown.

    Overall AI:
    6. PHILLIP PHILLIPS ? Home: 112.346 (+ 2.852)

For some reason it also has seen noticeable gains on i-tunes. Up to #7 and #51 (regular and deluxe versions).  Combined popularity bars put it at #3.

I have assumed that the prise reduction of the album had spiked new interest.
But someone on pulse have wrote:
“HGTV, which had an all-new lineup yesterday, is using it (Home) in ads for the network”.
So maybe that plaid a role as well.

The World from the Side of the Moon is sitting at #3 & #53 on i-tunes album chart.

  • jpfan2

From Billboard.  Home downloads for the week ending 12/30:

Phillip Phillips’ “Home” falls a spot to No. 10 with 281,000 (up 157%).

The album didn’t make the top 10 for the week. The #10 album sold 58K sold so I’m going to guess P2 sold somewhere around 50-55K. Just a guess.  That would put it at 525K sold for the year. I guess we won’t know for sure till we get the exact number.

  • LongKissGoodnight

Last week home was at 3,008,000, so the total now is ~3,289,000.

    (Woo! HOO!)

That’s one persistent little pony of a song…

  • heike hoffmann

“Home” is currently on #7 on Hot 100 iTunes-chart and Philliips album stands on #2  (LifePopBars).
The spots 6 till 10 of the billboard album sales for last week profit mostly from sale prizing at Amazon MP3 or iTunes, so maybe Phillips album sales profit from the prizing at iTunes this week and the album can reach the Top 10 on Billboard again.
