Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Nicki Minaj, Fergie, Will.I.Am Being Considered as American Idol Judges

Besides Adam LambertEOnline is now reporting a cavalcade of music stars as possible members of the American Idol judges panel, .  Hey. Report enough names, if even one is correct, you can claim victory…right?  Actually this sounds like a public relations free-for all to me. The E News lines must have  been burning up today!

The American Idol judges table could look very different this fall!

Sources confirm exclusively that along with Adam Lambert (a story we reported earlier today), Idol’s big bosses are also considering some other notable names to join the cast, including: Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Fergie, Katy Perry and (frequent A.I. mentor) Will.I.Am.

YAWN. The usual suspects.  I’m willing to bet whomever Idol producers hire, they WON’T be on that list.  ETA: It’s hard to take a rumor seriously when the same names come up every time there is an opening on a talent show panel. I remember Jennifer Lopez being a surprise when those rumors began to surface seriously.  Britney and Demi also came out of nowhere.

So how many new judges will there be? And who’s most likely to get the gig?

According to sources, the American Idol higher-ups all agree they want Jennifer Lopez back, however, as we previously reported, the megastar isn’t planning to return. And while we are told Idol’s big bosses are fans of Randy and Steven, they also would like to breathe some new (possibly younger) life into the series to compete with X Factor, which recently cast Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.

It’s possible there may be more than one new AI judge this fall.

ETA:  Katy Perry tells the Hollywood Reporter that she doesn’t have time to judge Idol:

The pop star tells The Hollywood Reporter, “People have reached out to me about the possibility of being involved and it’s not right for me yet.” Rather, Perry adds, she has other irons in the fire (including launching her own label) and that “it’s a real commitment to be on one of those shows … I have ideas for two or three big, creative things and I want to be able to fulfill those ideas.”

Every one of those names mentioned would make me LESS LIKELY to tune in. The whole group makes me nauseous actually. None of those people have any real talent as far as I’m concerned, so why would I watch subtalented entertainers judge amateur singers?

  • No Thanks

JLo was never a surprise to me.  Neither was Britney.  I had heard rumblings for both for a while. Demi was a total surprise though.

I could see doing it.  He just did The Voice and has frequented AI.  Katy Perry would be cool, she’s in a down cycle probably prepping a new album – and she shares management with Adam.  Plus they’re friends.  And she’s guest judged before on Idol AND X-Factor.

  • Anonymous

i don’t care who we get as new judge(s), as long as they, you know, actually judge. no more tongue baths.

  • Anonymous

Whoever they get, they need people who are current NOW. Not people who had hits twenty years ago or produced twenty years ago. You need someone who knows the market now and isn’t afraid to state their opinions. Not everyone who comes on stage is “the best singer ever”. So don’t treat them like they are.
If they’re smart, they will at least try one person on the panel who captures a younger demo.

  • Anonymous

Katy Perry is kind of the “it girl” in pop right now, so it would be good for idol to have her. She was funny when she guest judged in Season 9. Adam and Katy would make a colorful panel. Miley is probably idol’s answer to Demi on X Factor. Will.I.Am could be the token producer type.

  • Eilonwy

We need somebody to randomize Interscope’s artist roster onto downloadable Bingo cards, so that when EOnline comes up with new combinations, some lucky reader gets to yell “Bingo!”

I have no idea what the Bingo prize would be, but I’d seriously send cookies to the person to do the Bingo cards.

  • Anonymous

Katy Perry is on record saying she’d love to do one of these shows, but she’s way too busy right now.
Maybe she’d change her mind though. She is starting a record label, so if Idol gives her the right to sign some people, maybe she’d do it?

  • ZsusK

    I would vote this way:
Adam – yes – Yes (he works well as Jimmy’s sidekick
    Miley – No.
    Fergie – Nah.
    Katy – Yes
Nikki – I honestly do not know. I’ve never heard her speak so have no clue if she’s interesting, articulate, etc.

  • Anonymous would be terrible judging the live shows. Most of the time on the Voice, when it came to his turn to talk, there were lots of awkward silences albeit funny at times

  • Anonymous

These rumors are poorly timed.  Nigel and company need to learn from Simon Cowell, this talk should have started on the day of the X Factor’s season premiere.  Then Nigel and company could have paid for some commercial time during the X Factor, where the running theme could be guess who the new judges will be.

  • Anonymous

If the money is right, she would take it. It’s really only a twice a week commitment for three months(not counting Hollywood and auditions but they can work around that).

  • Anonymous

I’ve heard Minaj judge on America’s Next Top Model, she’s actually pretty brutally honest, which is refreshing.

  • Tinawina

Katy Perry and Niki Minaj – ain’t gonna happen. Katy would be good though. Still a pipe dream.
Fergie– probably not. XF tried and she seemed averse to the concept.
Will I Am – he would do it. I don’t know if he’d be good, but he’d do it IMO.
Miley Cyrus – she would do it in a heartbeat methinks.

They need at least one producer and/or A&R type. But they might just go for stars, which would be a missed opportunity I think. Maybe they will go for Diddy, who wold bring the blunt and the crazy at the same time. LOL. But this audience would HATE him.

  • Anonymous

OK, folks, I truly did not want to spoil the party but in order to get a leg up in this media mayhem I feel obliged to spill the beans: I have been offered the judges gig as well!!!

You heard it here first, so don’t be surprised if I accept it!

    *LULZ galore*

  • hayes

So who’s judging the auditions going on right now??

  • No Thanks

The producers.  The “judges” don’t come in until much later after they’ve culled thousands down to like 100 per city.

  • Enough already!

I don’t actually see a clean sweep on this panel, but maybe replacing Randy.  Adam would be a real plus to this team…he is articulate, funny and spot on.  Its exactly what Idol needs to stay on top.   But…too good to be real…which means I would be watching Idol regularly again.

  • Anonymous

Melinda Doolittle!  Kristen Baldwin!  Jim Cantiello!

    Seriously, Kristen Baldwin!

I think you are a bad person… Next?

  • Anonymous

I would guess that Miley and Will.I.Am would both have good chances of being asked to be judges on AI. I bet they would both do it too.

  • blackberryharvest

Melinda Doolittle would make a great judge. I love her comments she makes with Michael Slezak. They are generally spot on.

Idol would score big time if they could get Katy Perry on the panel. And Miley is a bigger star than Demi, so she could bring in more young fans.

  • Anonymous

Thinking a bit more seriously about it, if they replace Steven, it would be great if they put in an older singer with real chops.  Steven did have that going for him.  I could do without the perviness, though.

Maybe an older female singer?  Gladys Knight, maybe?  Someone at that level of stardom/experience who truly has nothing to prove.

And somebody from the business end.  Will that be treading on Jimmy’s turf?  I think there does need to be a “reality check” judge.  An articulate reality check judge.

  • Anonymous

JLo was never a surprise to me.  Neither was Britney.  I had heard rumblings for both for a while. Demi was a total surprise though.

But Britney and Jlo didn’t really surface until there were serious rumors. It’s almost as if E news went into their files and pulled out the usual names. These folks come up again and again when it’s time to cast a talent show, and they never pan out.
Will.I.Am is the only one who seems possible out of the bunch. Especially since he has a relationship with Jimmy Iovine. But based on his work on X Factor and The Voice,  I think he’d be a terrible judge

  • Sassycatz

The one mentor I really remember enjoying on Idol was Harry Connick Jr. As a judge, I just love Ben Folds.

These shows seem to be wedded to the idea that they must have one of these pop stars on their panel as if suggesting that their popularity was all of their own making. Sometimes I think many of them are popular in spite of themselves and because of very good management, mentors, or song selection. Some of them don’t even have stellar talent. That’s why having *them* be the judge seems to me like having Charlie McCarthy be the judge when it was Edgar Bergen pulling the strings!

  • Anonymous

Haha, well all I can say is it’s a good thing Adam was brought up first and got a good round of press before everyone else! I still think he would make a great judge though.

  • Anonymous

But, but, but… Will i am is a horrible mentor, much less judge.

  • No Thanks

Simon was ALWAYS gagging for Britney.  And JLo’s name had been thrown around early on by many.  Demi was a surprise and so was Steven Tyler.

  • Anonymous

Get rid of Steven and move in Gus Van Zant for the aging rocker position.  The guy is an engaging personality, as well as a great musician.

  • Sue

Seriously if AI really wants to try and create stars again they should NOT hire stars to judge, they SHOULD hire PEOPLE WHO CREATE STARS to judge:

    A record exec/producer – they’ve already got Jimmy Iovine
A vocal coach – they’ve already got Peggy Blu, the “vocal coach from hell”
    A stage/music director – they’ve already got Michael Orland
    A radio/media/PR mogul – suggestions anyone?

ETA: regarding the last slot doesn’t that describe Ryan Seacrast? How about they make him, Iovine, Peggy and Orland judges and hire new more entertaining hosts a la Ant and Dec?

ETA: oh and how about after moving Jimmy to the judges panel they replace his in house mentor role with Simon Fuller?

  • Incipit

“i don’t care who we get as new judge(s), as long as they, you know, actually judge.”

This latest menu is funny – who is throwing names at the wall now?

Bwahahaha!  if I didn’t know better, I would think Idol was angling to actually get a Pop singer to win, from these prospective figureheads. But that would mean they would have to cast someone who was ‘in’ that genre already, (and let them actually sing in that genre) along with the Country/Diva/Alt/Jazz/Gospel/Easy Listening Usual Suspects.  And hope the audience that prefers the former will vote for the latter. Who are they trying to kid? They will stick with what provides their core audience with “Good TV” and Entertainment (Or tries to), and leave the Pop to the guest stars.

The judges are just part of that Entertainment. If TPTB don’t want them trying to actually ‘judge’ – they won’t. And really, they never have. watching even one episode of The Sing Off would illustrate, compared to ‘any’ season of Idol. Because those were ‘real’ judges.

As soon as TPTB think they have figured out what the audience wants in entertainment from a judge this year – they will rush to the front of the parade to stick one in a chair. And them go off and commission more press releases.

    IMO. Of Course.

  • Anonymous

How dare all these other artists try and steal Adam’s thunder! :)

  • Christopher

The entire judging panel needs to be wiped clean. I just hope they won’t go for the big stars like X Factor did. They need to have people who know what they’re talking about, who actually care and can give good constructive criticism. Adam Lambert would be a perfect judge imo. He’s not afraid to speak his mind, plus he’s been through it all so he knows what he’s talking about.

For the other spots I think Kelly Clarkson would be great, but having more than one past idol contestant on the panel is most likely not going to happen.
I also remember absolutely loving Shania Twain as a guest judge, but don’t see this happening as well because she is not “current”.

Maybe someone like Jamie Foxx or Harry Connick Jr. could be good? They were great guest mentors.

As for that entire list posted above, every single person on there, except maybe Katy Perry would be awful. Especially Will.I.Am.

  • Tinawina

I’m with you. I mean he was alright, I didn’t totally hate him because he was kinda funny, but as a real judge? I don’t see it.

Just the same, I think he’d say yes.

  • Anonymous

Simon was ALWAYS gagging for Britney.

That’s true about Simon, but I don’t recall Britney’s name coming up as a possibility for Idol, for instance.

And JLo’s name had been thrown around early on by many.

Maybe she was on some wishlists? Maybe I’m mis-remembering here.

Demi was a surprise and so was Steven Tyler.

as in we didn’t hear about them until they were hired? Yes, that’s true. Although, I think Steven was rumored for a little while. But he’s not someone you’d guess out of thin air.

Demi was a true surprise. And funny thing–this illustrates the point I was trying to make–perhaps badly.  On the same day, or maybe the day before the Demi news broke, there were reports that Miley would be an X factor judge. LOL. She, Katy, Fergie, are names that pop up every time there is a job opening. I think Nicki was mentioned for X Factor too. It’s like there are stock names that get thrown out every time, and I think whoever gets the job will be a rumor newbie.

  • Anonymous

    IKR? Bastards!

  • blackberryharvest

I think they should bring in a young country star so that we have a judge who will know a lot about country. Luke Bryan or Brad Paisley would be a great choice.

  • Anonymous

maybe because they all share the same management who planted these rumors? :)

  • Anonymous

I have a connection with a producer of the show, and this is pretty much true. Other names on the shortlist include Kellie Pickler, Clay Aiken, Lady Gaga, Channing Tatum, Selena Gomez, Cameron Diaz, Wendy Williams, Charice, Rihanna, and Celine Dion. They will narrow down the list in the next few weeks and will start meeting with some of them. They want 1 alumni(either Adam, Kellie, or Clay) and either 1 or 2 young stars. They also want to go back to experimenting with a non-musical/industry type(think Ellen Degeneres only more star power-Channing, Cameron, Wendy). Someone who can represent and be the voice of the fans at home who have no musical background.

I TOTALLY have the ability to trace commenters to WHERE they are posting from via their IP address.  I can also do a run on an IP address against a database to find out if a commenter is commenting using multiple names ie sock puppets.

Maybe Miley turned down the Xfactor gig to be an Idol Judge?  Just thinking out loud.

I would love Adam to be a judge because he was a very good mentor and he speaks so well.  He has opinions and shares them in a nice way (usually).  But he can also be funny and snide and snarky which would add life.

All new judges would be a great boost to the show.  Steven was useless, Jlo uneven and witchy to talented female contestants and usually said very little.

Randy has been irrelevant for years dawg.

Hopefully, as Adam isn’t denying it is true. would be another very good judge.  He was good as a mentor and not at all what I was expecting.

Channing Tatum would get all the tweens and teens watching and in a tither.  If they could vote for him he would win the show.  He is very popular now with that demo.

  • supersonic

With these names being tossed around, maybe they should ask me.  I could probably do better than all of these names being tossed.  Miley Cyrus?  Nicki Minaj?  Who’s going to take them seriously?

  • milwlovesadam

Melinda Doolittle. Michael Slezak. Jim Cantiello. Michelle Collins.

Leave Adam free to have a career. Have him mentor. Have him guest judge. He needs to have free time to tour. This very selfish fan wants to see Adam live in concert many many times. I love seeing him on my TV, but being a judge is very time consuming!!!

  • No Thanks

If they want an alumni, I’d go with Adam or Pickles.  At least they are on top of the current music scene.  While Clay is interesting, he is SOOOOOO out of touch with today’s music, he might as well be 80 years old. Plus I think Clay would rather gauge his eyes out than associate with Idol again. He burned a lot of bridges there.

Wendy Williams would be ghetto fab.

And I’m sure they’d like to score Lady Gaga, Rihanna or Selena over the rest.  Although Celine would grab the older demographic.

  • John S

At the top of my head, all these people were “considered” for Season 10 until the actual judges were announced: Bret Michaels, Justin Timberlake, Elton John, Harry Connick Jr, Chris Isaak, Jessica Simpson, Courtney Love, and Billy Ray Cyrus.

For X-Factor this year we had Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Fergie, LeAnn Rimes, Rihanna, Mariah Carey, and Gwen Stefani in addition to Demi and Britney.

Many people are “considered” to be judges, but they talk to A LOT of candidates. It will probably be someone whose name has never been thrown out there before.

  • Anonymous

Jlo uneven and witchy to talented female contestants

How so? She always told Hollie she was rooting for her and thought she could win. She told Jessica she has one of the best female voices in the current music industry. JLo wasn’t jealous of anyone. Randy and Steven probably gave harsher critiques to the females this year, does that mean they are jealous and “witchy” towards females? She actually gave all the boys this season besides Jeremy at least one critique over the season.

  • nancy

    SO true!

Any new judges will probably be people who don’t have much going on in their careers right now, because, ya know, it’s really all about the judges and boosting their own careers.

Was more popular. Now, a lot of people hate her or if not hate don’t like her very much. Demi has her own TV show now and I dont think anyone has a negative about her

I think he would be brutely honest, which is what a.i.needs.

Ugh i don’t see why we need an aged singer on the panel (to the people who said we needed one)

    Because they have credibility.

  • Anonymous

Most of these rumored judges I find have boring personalities. Nicki is interesting, but IMO hasn’t had a long enough career to be a judge. Miley’s career hasn’t transitioned from her teen days. She’s singing more mature songs, but she lost many of her fans that idolized her before. I think we need a more credible judge & I think having Miley would make the critics criticize & laugh at Idol more. Also, people will think Idol got Miley because XF got Demi.

I think Fergie would be boring & too nice. Will.I.Am has been a good mentor on Idol & has good chemistry with Jimmy Iovine. But I think he would be a boring judge without Jimmy or people he already has a good chemistry with. Katy was a good guest judge before on Idol, but I don’t see her having the time to do it.

I want credible & interesting judges. However, even if it doesn’t happen I will continue to watch Idol. I have watched all the Idol seasons despite poor judging from Ellen, Kara, Paula, Randy, the last few years of Simon, Steven, & J-Lo. I watch because of the talent. As long as I keep finding great undiscovered talent, I can just fast forward the judges comments.

  • Ivan

They should try hiring unknown judges. Then people will tune in and be interested as to who they are and what they have to say.

    Cantiello, Doolittle, Slezak. :)

” Seriously if AI really wants to try and create stars again they should

I completely agree with that, but I don’t think that’s what Idol wants to do. Idol’s a commercial tv show. So they pretty much have a single purpose — bring in eyeballs for their advertisers. ….

That being the case, I’m afraid we can forget the happy idea of having people who know and care about developing recording artists.

I like your list of who they should have a lot, though. I’d love to watch that show. But I don’t think they would believe that it would bring in nearly enough eyeballs in the sought-after demographics.

  • Anonymous

Considering the news cycle today I don’t think there’s been a lot of thunder stealing.  :)

No thanks to Slezak & Jim. While I like them, the last thing the show needs is an Idol obsessed blogger as a judge.

Michelle Collins & Melinda are funny, smart and blunt. I think they’d be great. Unfortunately the show needs bigger names than either one of them.

  • Stefan Wind

Please no Nikki Minaj, and please NO Miley Cyrus…Thanks.

I wouldn’t mind Adam, Shania Twain, and *shudders* Randy Jackson.

Whoever they end up getting in, I hope they clear all three of the current lot out and start again with a more relevant line up. All three of them were terrible terrible judges and made the show nigh on unwatchable at times.

Also I’d rather not see Katy P. While I do like her, her overexposure at the moment is making Gaga look like a shrinking violet.

  • supersonic

If they bring in Cantiello and Slezak, you can forget about me watching ever again.

  • LA Kim

If AI goes country, Jason Aldean would be the man. :)

Adam has been judging AI each season via twitter and he was an excellent mentor so my vote is yes to Adam.  Although, I think it’s all rumor, dizzyfeet likes drama riling up the fan wars and media news cycle.  His new show airs tonight.

     And Jennifer Lopez is???

  • Sassycatz

I think they should have people who 1) have had an actual career in the music industry of some note; 2) aren’t afraid to voice their point of view; and 3) can articulate their point of view intelligently and, hopefully, with some wit. This leaves out all peeps still able to be listed on their parents’ health insurance and all those still working on building a career.

  • dabney c

I agree, Stefan, that’s a good judging panel. Adam and Shania would be fantastic replacements for Steven and Jlo because they’re both capable of being honest and constructive. Randy Jackson may bring all his old eyeroll-worthy schtick, but we need a holdout from the old guard, don’t you think? We need a connective thread to Idol’s glory days, and Randy happens to be it. Besides, the blogsphere’s commentary on Randy’s nonsense is a necessary part of the enjoyment of the show for me, so I’m all for keeping him around.

  • John S

Those two would create the most annoying judging panel ever.

For real.  I shudder just thinking about it.

  • ZsusK

Well, I’ve always been very much for bringing back a former Idol each week to serve as a guest judge.  The three named in this article, Adam, Pickles, and Clay, all have the personalities for the job.  On the other hand, some of the winners/runners-up just do not have what it takes for this. If I had to choose by season it would be:

1 – Kelly (Just once, though. Kelly’s perpetual “gosh oh golly!” routine gets on my last nerve.) That’s it.
    2 – Clay, Kimberly (snarktastic)
3 – Fanty (The OTT would be delicious)
4 – No one. Carrie is sweet as pie, but she’d bring nothing to a panel like this. She would have a hard time with the criticism. Bo would fold his arms and refuse to play the game. Constantine is too skeevy. And the others? Who?
5 – Kellie P for sure.  (Cute and funny.) Maybe Elliott. No way for Ace as he’d insist on having Diana with him, sitting on his lap.
6 – Melinda (Snark with a dose of “Oh gosh! Did I really say that?) Blake.
7 – Cook, Michael Johns, Brooke White (Cook and Johns for the humor. Brooke for  the Paula-ish adoration of all.)
8 – Adam  (because he rules)  Anoop (Yep. Seriously. I think his snark level is underrated.)
    9 – No one.
    10 – No one.
11 – Heejun (for the lulz)

  • dabney c

Right! Ryan is the glue, isn’t he. Still, I do enjoy Randy’s Randyisms for their easy mockability. It wouldn’t bother me if he stayed.

I’m sorry to be so off topic, but I am seeing at the bottom of several threads the (twitter symbol)  and these words:  “Please install and activate the “Twitter for WordPress” plugin to use this section.”

  • fuzzywuzzy

“But I don’t think they would believe that it would bring in nearly enough eyeballs in the sought-after demographics.”

I think that may be the main reason for considering Miley, as she would draw a much younger demographic as voters/viewers. I don’t think that she’s a good singer or performer, she wasn’t much of a mentor on Idol and her speaking voice drives me nuts, but she was a big star, has wide name recognition and had/has tons of fans (>6.4 million twitter followers).

  • Sassycatz

  • Lexie

Since this seems to be an active thread, I was also wondering…did the most recent comments on the side go away, too?  I liked those because I could see what was active–just saying:)

As far as the topic at hand, is there a very popular dj in the pop world?  Besides Ryan…   Also, it would be nice if the panel represented different genres rather than just one (I feel like other than guests, country hasn’t been represented)…

  • Leandro

You just have to be famous to be a judge these days. I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re considering Snooki and Kim Kardashian as possible judges too.

  • Anonymous

It would be nice if we had judges that actually judged. But it ain’t gonna happen if they bring in a pop star that needs to be likable enough to a)keep a career going or b) reignite a sagging career or sales. The celebrity judge is what they will go after to keep their TV ratings, so the bigger the celebrity the better. If they are going to fork over another 20 million they better get their viewerships worth ~ and in the right age group for pop singers – imho.
Nicki Minaj and Katy Perry are the best bets in that category. I don’t think Adam Lambert is a big enough star in the US right now to bring in viewers, although it would likely give him a nice boost. Plus, with any Idol, people have formed their opinions ~ they will love the Idol or hate the Idol. They might hate the Idol because he or she did better than or beat their Idol blah blah. And if they don’t like him/her that is problematic for increasing viewers. You get my drift. I know this can be said about any pop star, but people weren’t feverishly voting for Nicki Minaj or Katy Perry etc.
They are doing it to keep their market share against all of the other singing contests. They will go for the biggest star they can possibly get. And here comes another paycut for the Idols.

does Channing Tatum know anything about music? I don’t really know much about him other than he’s an actor who has been in a bunch of mediocre movies and people think he’s hot :)

does Channing Tatum know anything about music?

I think he’s a dancer. He was in Step Up.

Interesting. Its all just a bunch of rumors at this point. Usually they have meetings before they get serious.

I’d like to see a judging panel that consists of 1 label exec (Jimmy I would make sense), 1 radio music or program director and 1 songwriter

Songwriter for a karaoke show? Does not compute.

“They want 1 alumni(either Adam, Kellie, or Clay)”

No, NO and HELL NO! The only alum truly qualified for this gig is Kelly Clarkson for the following reasons:

    1. She’s the original winner, every viewer remembers her and knows who she is, she needs no introduction
    2. She’s the most successful alum of all time, the only global superstar Idol has ever produced
    3. She has massive radio hits and platinum sales under her belt
    4. She has recognition through appearances, awards, etc.
    5. She’s still relevant
    6. She can sing, she knows all about singing and how to judge vocals
    7. She’s very crossover which means she can judge multiple genres
    8. She’s a real artist who can write her own stuff, she knows what true artistry is and how to spot it
    9. She has experience by doing similar gigs on The Voice and Duets

I don’t understand how they could even consider anyone else even if they can’t get her.

“and either 1 or 2 young stars.”

*rolls eyes* getting younger stars to judge is not going to pull in a younger demographic, it might start off the show with good ratings but it won’t sustain interest over time, and possibly not even for the entire duration of the season. If they want younger viewers they need to change the show’s format to allow more current material to be performed (no more Billy Joel or Carol King) and put edgier contestants through, teenagers are not into WGWGs or pagent balladiers.

“They also want to go back to experimenting with a non-musical/industry type…
Someone who can represent and be the voice of the fans at home who have no musical background.”

Most of the viewers have no experience in the music biz or a music background as a musician, performer, ect. So I don’t see the point of hiring such an individual for the panel. It’s a singing competition that creates recording artists, anyone who isn’t associated with music in some way has no business judging such a competition.

They already have perfectly appropriate and capable personnel on their staff: Jimmy, Peggie, Michael & Ryan can all be promoted to judging positions, and wouldn’t require ridiculous sums of money for the gig so that the budget can go to clearing more songs instead. Then they can hire Miley & Channing to host.

Babyface was an awesome guest judge/mentor. I also think if it wasn’t for her residency in Vegas, Shania Twain would be great as I loved her as guest judge during auditions S9. They both were brilliant at critiquing these contestants rather than giving weird/unauthentic feedback.
