Pretty good, but I still find Ms. Carly sooo screechy. She needs to be in a band, a la Grace Slicker and other rock shouters. He’s very cool, though.

Wow! Who paid to fly Ricky Minor and all those other band members to Chicago??!! And excuse me, but that was NOTHING that a local garage band couldn’t have played. (Ok. I’m exaggerating a little, but it did sound like a garage band to me.)

I didn’t know that song, and I hated it, but the two of them sound good together vocally.

I couldn’t tolerate it long enough to listen to the whole thing, so I didn’t hear her screeching.

I loved it… MJ sounded so good, Carly also but Michael so much better IMO.

I knew both songs and thought Michael did a terrific job. You can tell how much he loves to perform before an audience. I bet one of the songs will be released as a single and/or performed on the tour.

It is interesting that Ricky Minor and the band were there. I don’t know who paid but clearly AI was supporting this appearance.

I normally love Carly’s voice but it wasn’t necessary on this particular song. Michael sounded fantastic though.

Of course, AI & Ellen are in bed together. It has helped her ratings tremendously. I still can’t stand Carly. Sorry, that screeching makes my ears bleed. I’d rather have heard MJ by himself.

Aww…MJ sounds awesome. And I LOVE the Bono/Mary J Blige version of this song, so I’m surprised I liked MJ on it so much. He shoulda done U2 on the show.

Again, Carly shows that she has one of the best voices ever to be on Idol and Michael shows a LOT of star quality. Both of their futures seem to be pretty bright.

Wish we knew what happened to the AI stylists this year. So many of them have just looked bad, which isn’t what we’re used to seeing. Poor Carly really needs help. She just does not know how to pick flattering clothes.

Mr Johns was very very good. He was inspired and in tune.

Carly was Carly, she didn’y try to sync her style to his, she oversang and got screechy and out of tune. I adore “One” and she kinda ruined it. She was a bit better in last song. (Who dresses her?)

There are literally a hundred local bands who could have played the music well. The Ricky Minor thing was PR for the show.

I was kind of surprised to find those performances pretty tame and unexciting. There are performers all across the country that could have done as well or even better. They played it all pretty safe, IMO, and they’re no longer in a competition.

M.J thanx for posting these, I so looked forward to seeing them. And I wasn’t disappointed.

I would think duets take considerable rehearsal time to nail, but these two performances are close to the best. The natural chemistry btwn Carly and MJ is obvious, and each seems willing to lower the volme for the other.

If MJ had of sang ‘One’ on Idol, that would have been his Moment.

I am not worried about MJ though, he has that natural star quality about him and he sings great. Can’t wait to see what he does with his career.

O my god Carly’s voice is freakin AMAZING.One of the best voices to hit the American idol stage.

These two are probably enjoying the hell out of this….this is what they wanted….a national stage….but somebody please find a stylist for Carly! And yes, she’s “loud” but on key. She needs more stage presence also. Mjohns can charm the snake out of a snake.

Michael sounded GREAT! However, Carly as usual, shouted her vocal in her typical angry screechy and shrill voice. It would have been better if they could each have done a solo, so we could enjoy MJ without having to listen to what sounded like a screeching cat in heat. She was terribly off-pitch and out of tune as usual, I can’t believe she lasted longer in this competition than MJ.

Is it just me, or does she look seriously pregnant in these performances? Can’t wait to hear more of MJ!

I think they sang great together considering the outdoor venue and limited rehearsal time. Ellen was generous enough to invite them both back after hosting Carly. I suppose Michael would have been solo or not appeared at if she had not been eliminated.

I felt Michael was trying to sound more like Bono than himself on “One”. Oft times he seems to be in his own world. I don’t typically comment on his singing but felt compelled. He still would have been my pick for top 3.

I love them both, I miss them on the show. Glad that someone is supporting them. If that is tptb, or Ellen, great. They are talented. Carly’s dress looks better now that I see the whole thing. It’s better than that boob belt thingee she wore several weeks ago.

It does sound better on tv than in my little computer. I thought Michael was better overall but really liked Carly’s voice on the 2nd song. I wish it was longer, too.

Wow! Carly sounded amazing, she is definitely one of the best voices that we’ve ever had in American Idol! The perfect finale would have been between her and Michael or her and David Cook without a doubt.

I think They did an amazing job. Carly is not screechy at all, her voice is so powerful that it may seem that she’s shouting but her voice is beautiful! Mj is really good,too. I want to see and hear more of them together. They sound great!

I thought that MJ showed years of stage experience in working that stage and Carly has that AMAZING high chest belt!! She has a Streisand quality to her voice and he sounded great during it.

MJ has been making a lot of appearances in Australia and apparently in one said he’ll be going to Ellen’s 50th birthday party on Sat. He’s a busy boy. He said in one interview that he hasn’t slept for the past 4 weeks.

Ellen’s birthday is in January. Why would she have a birthday party Saturday? Maybe Michael was confused. The Chicago show was taped on Saturday, right?

I don’t know, Gabam, but he clearly talks about it in the Kerri-Anne interview. It’s beyond cute seeing him so excited about being on Ellen and the Correspondents dinner meeting who he did. His mom joins him and is talked into singing a couple of lines. When asked what he’d buy when he makes it, he says he always promised to buy his mom and stepdad a house.
