In her tour rehearsal interview with Lindsey Parker of Yahoo Music, Lil Rounds wouldn’t reveal the songs she’ll be performing on tour, but hings they’ll be “high energy.” Why are some Idols revealing their songs while others won’t?

Also, Lindsey reports on another group number–Madcan’s “Beggin”:

While Lil didn’t reveal her tour songs to me on camera, later when I watched a bit of the rehearsals, during a high-energy group performance of Madcon’s “Beggin’” she performed the rap section–and she was good! She looked like she was having a blast, and it made me wonder if hip-hop might be in her future, along with the R&B and jazz directions she told me she wants to take on her debut album.

Why are some Idols revealing their songs while others won’t?

Anticipation? Although I’m personally not holding my breath. Lil is so middle of the road for me.

  • washpd

Check out Anoop in the background of Lil’s interview. Then, Kris comes in and sits down and eventually does a lean that would challenge Jordan Catalono for leaning awesomeness.

As for Lil, I’m curious about this group number. I hadn’t heard anything about this until now.

  • suebrody

I noticed the length of the interviews get shorter and shorter…and in this case, it’s b/c Lil has pretty much nothing to say, except she keeps complaining. I hope Anoop’s is longer, though, b/c he is really intelligent and interesting to listen to (his audio chat was fun and informative yesterday), unlike Lil, tho I *could* see her doing rap music (not r&b). Pretty much *zzz*, however.

  • taks

Oh, Lil was talking? I was too busy trying to listen to Kris’ conversation with Anoop.

But seriously, I think a lot of the Idols who got eliminated earlier aren’t revealing their sets because they only have 2-3 songs.

  • Sunn

She’s sweet girl I’m sure, but lor! does she bore the stuffing out of me when she speaks. The girl is a natural sleep remedy.

  • Calliope

I don’t seem to dislike Lil as much as others do, but yes, her interviews aren’t very exciting. She comes across well when she is among the others. Still, while not being a fan, I think she is ridiculously pretty, so for that I might sit through her songs on the tour. ;)

Why is Anoop staring at the wall for what seems like such a long time during her interview though? That was just weird.

  • JustWatching

Her debut album? Has she signed with someone? I just can’t imagine that. I don’t think there is one song she sang that I liked on AI. I think her attitude had a lot to do with me not liking her, too.

  • Mary102

I think it’s worth noting that we know the most about Adam’s set (not even much revealed about Kris’s), and part of it is because he’s a big blabbermouth (but in only the best, most endearing way ;-) ) when it comes to sharing all the fabulosity associated with his performance (the outfits! the jackets! the bowie!)

The others are probably just wanting to drag out the suspense, or maybe trying to deflect any negative energy before the show (some non-show song picks can be hit-or-miss in my experience, and by keeping those underwraps, the contestants are more likely to keep audiences from pre-judging the song choice.)

  • washpd

I think Lil just does not come off well on camera–either in her interactions with the judges or in interviews generally–which is too bad. My understanding is that she was a really cool person who everyone in the house really liked. I never got what the judges thought was so great about her voice, though. And she had one really good performance, and that was in the semifinals.

    I wish her well.

Why is Anoop staring at the wall for what seems like such a long time during her interview though? That was just weird.

LOL. I wondered the same thing, but eventually figured that there must be some sort of postings on the wall that are just too light for us to be able to see.

  • girlygirl

I was trying to pay attention to what Lil was saying, but as soon as Kris sat down in the background, my focus went straight to him, trying to hear what he was saying. That boy is very distracting…sorry Lil!

  • jack5791

I loved Lil earlier on and then she just gradually started to annoy me as the season went on, but I am still holding out hope for her. I’m excited for what she will do on tour now that she is in her element and I think we will all be surprised. We know she is capable, just hasn’t delivered. Maybe she’ll sing her audition song again? That would be really good. Anyway, excited to see Lil!

  • rockvixen

Am I bad for hating the way Lil talks? I can’t stand listening to her talk. Is it the accent or idk but it bugs me. I struggled with stopping this interview and managed to get through it.

  • Calliope

Plus, 20/20 was with him during rehearsals, so he was shown practicing Bowie and Starlight. You are right though, he has no problem saying he isn’t doing Ring of Fire, but is doing Mad World. Him and Allison didn’t keep their duet quiet. I think there is only one song by Adam we don’t know about. Kris is only revealed he is doing Hey Jude and not doing Falling Slowly. We assume No Boundaries will be there as well. Allison said Heart, Pink and her duet with Adam, so actually I think we are only missing one song for her as well. Technically we know half of Megan’s set since she is doing two songs and we know one. Does that count?

LOL. I wondered the same thing, but eventually figured that there must be some sort of postings on the wall that are just too light for us to be able to see.

That makes so much sense. haha

  • rockvixen

Am I bad for hating the way Lil talks? Her accent or whatever bugs the hell out of me.

  • suebrody

I am 99 percent sure that Kris is doing NB. Is Adam missing a song (I hope so–sing BoW, Adam!!!)?

Here is what I thought was accurate in terms of number of songs:

Top 10/9 get one song, Top 8/7 get two songs, Top 5/4/three songs, Top 3 four songs, Top 2 (ADAM!) five songs, Idol (KRIS!) six songs.

    Is this right?

  • Calliope

    Is this right?

I think 10-8 get two songs, not sure about 7-5 (possibly three? maybe Matt gets one more?) Allison has three songs, plus her duet with Adam. Danny has four songs. Adam has five songs (which likely includes the duet with Allison). Kris said he had five songs, which likely includes NB, but could mean five songs plus NB.

Of course, this could all be wrong.

    Is this right?

I think we’ve heard (plus this is how it typically goes):

    #’s 10, 9, 8 = 2 songs
    #’s 7, 6, 5 = 2/3 songs
    # 4 (Allison) = 3 songs plus SR Duet
    #3 = 4 songs (?) not confirmed I don’t think, but I’m guessing
    # 2 = 5 songs (but one is the SR duet)
#1 = 5 songs (with Hey Jude probably closing the set, and seguing into the full group singing the end)

Last year, this is about how it worked, with Archie getting 4 songs, and Cook getting 5 (including his encore).

  • suebrody

Oh, okay Thanks.. Too bad one of Kris’s is NB. It’s almost like he is only getting 4. ;-) And Adam is almost getting 6, because he gets the Bowie (!) medley. I’ll take SL any day, even as a 5th song! I think we are still missing one of his songs and a couple of Kris’s, right?

More important to me would be order, tho, so I can Twitter/blog during certain sections (talking to YOU, Sarver). Megan may surprise us with Adele. I do not expect to be surprised by Lil.

  • hayden0604

I hear they’re doing the Tour like Season 6, with lots of Duets and things like that

But if they do it like last year, EVERYBODY has 3 songs, exept for the Top 2, and Lil is in talks with a Record Label, yay!!!!!!!

  • suebrody

I don’t think everyone gets 3 songs, at least not Sarver and Megan (they only get 2). Seems like Matt should get more songs than Lil/Anoop, b/c he made Top 5.

I know, who cares, ultimately, as long as Kradam get the most. ;)

  • hayden0604

That’s the way they have been doin’ it, I just want to see Lil get @ least 3 and I will be happy, :)

  • lucy

She still doesn’t get it. They weren’t contradicting themselves in the least, in her case. They told her not to keep karaokeing songs. And she just kept doing it and doing it and doing it. With the Tina Turner song, she even tried to karaoke the walk. Oh, well, she’ll get some little singing gigs here and there and it’ll be way more than she ever would have gotten without the show. And maybe some day she’ll develop a style of her own.

  • AC

So I asked Lyndsey Parker through twitter about Madcon’s Beggin and she said it was not the whole group doing this but will include Anoop. Since we know that Matt and Scott will also be on “dueling pianos” for You Can’t Hurry Love, does this mean that there will be duets? or possibly the end of the first half is a little medley or sorts?

Oh, and yes, I stopped paying attention to Lil too just because I wanted to hear what Kris and Anoop were talking about (and to stare at Kris). hehe

  • washpd

It’s been in at least one article about the tour that Kris is doing Heartless, NB, and Hey Jude. We don’t know his other two, except that we know that one of them that he did not do on the show.

  • babybelle32

It’s so hard to concentrate on what Lil is saying, because Kris’ picture is directly underneath the video feed. And then it got worse when he came into the frame and did that lean. How can one person be so sexy.

Lil, the problem isn’t what you sang on the show, it’s that you didn’t sing anything well. The way you sell a country song is by putting emotion into it, and actually making it seem like you understand the lyrics of the song. You were singing a song about how a little girl feels after her abused mother kills herself and the little girl’s father, how hard would it have been to get people emotionally involved in that story.

That being said, I still wish Lil well.

  • Mary102

Adam was quoted as saying it would be in elimination order. I’m guessing they’ll mix a few group #’s in, but still mainly keeping the elim order (that is, end the first half with a group number, but it’s just a group number for the bottom half – which is good because it gives them more to do).

Elim order makes the SR duet tricky, but I’m guessing they’ll keep that order the same, and have SR in the middle of Adam’s set, with Adam “re-introducing” Allison to sing with him.

Someone else has died. Comedian Fred Travalena dies at 66! This is a very very bad month!!!

Lil has a BIG voice, which, I’ll be the first to admit, the AI judges seem to fall in love with a little too easily on the show, whether it’s really deserved or not.

Her biggest problems, imo, were major pitch problems when she belted (over-singing a lot), and a lack of musical identity. The karaoke comment was accurate: she would just kind of copy the style of whoever she was singing that week, rather than try to put her own style on it.

  • cookcricket

I wonder if Anoop was there waiting to do his interview. At least this interviewer is getting it in the right order. Lil before Anoop. To me Lil’s always been 7 and Anoop 6.

And yes, once Kris came in I became distracted. lol.

  • LaurelG

Lil gets my vote for best makeover of S8. In this video, she looks 10 years younger than she did in her audition. The hair’s working for her.

I also think she seems like a sweet person. I’ll be interested to hear and see her perform “live” because I thought she had fairly good stage presence, especially compared to some of the other F10.

  • Calliope

I went to a dress rehearsal and actually focused on Lil more than I thought I would have, so I have to agree, even though I felt she was a bit shouty. Granted, most of them sounded rather shouty and lacked a lot of control over their voice (Allison wasn’t shouty and neither was Adam, who was the softest, but it was Tracks of My Tears so that explains it, however you could tell he had control over his voice). Pretty much a majority of them work better during rehearsals and in the studio, probably due to less pressure and nerves. Not sure though.

I do think Lil seems sweet. Mouthy to the judges and lacking identity, but she seems like a sweet lady.

  • nuttin2lose

lil is a sweet girl and also realistic.. I think she may be the one that appreciates her status the most. she has said they are now in a town house from the motel they were in. and on CNN said she will be going back home after the tour and will not move to LA unless they can afford it.

I wonder why some of them don’t say what songs they are performing while others feel comfortable telling. by sunday everyone will know so whatever.

  • Squirrely

Yeah I don’t get why song choices are top secret.

  • hwc

That was a nice interview. Was she on the show this year?

  • BestAI

So, I take it the bottom three get two numbers, the next three get three, then Allison three solos and a duet, Danny four solos, Adam four solos and a duet, and Kris five solos (one really long one). One finale group, and another group. I think there’s supposed to be two dueling piano — I wonder if they are part of Matt and Scott’s sets, or in addition to their sets. I do not liike Scott and Michael’s voices, so two songs would suffice. If Megan sings the right songs, I kinda like her voice.

That’s what sets some of them apart, imo. I know singers who have huge voices, and can belt like no one’s business, but have a lot of trouble reigning it in to do anything soft – they just lack the control and range, so they always turn the “belt” factor on.

Allison at times struggled with it, though got better throughout the competition. Lil, from what I could tell, largely lacked this versatility. Adam, otoh, has excellent control when it comes to both belting it out and turning it way down (I wasn’t impressed with his singing until I saw him exhibit that control in TOMT and MW).

  • JosieX

I like Lil, she was one of my favorites on the first couple of shows. But I was concerned when she said on country night that she wanted to show that she could do a country song in a way that respected that genre, and my heart sank when she came out on Motown night looking like a 60′s Ronette or something. When she came out to do a Celine song dressed like a middle aged matron, I gave up. She just didn’t seem to get how the game is played on the show, and she wasn’t projecting the easy confidence that you saw in some of the others, I’d say particularly Adam, Danny and Allison. That doesn’t mean that she couldn’t be an excellent R&B artist. She does have a really good voice and she’s a beautiful young woman. I hope she gets a shot at it.

I have a question. Do they usually have back up singers on tour? I was wondering if that may be why Kris isn’t doing Falling Slowly. I don’t see Lil, Megan or Allison as good duet partners for that song. Adam could do it, but….ahem, well, yeah. If there are no backup singers I think that would explain it. Or perhaps he feels that the song would require a more intimate mood to work, and it sounds like the tour atmosphere is more upbeat and energetic.

  • hollygo9

    distracting indeed.
