LaToya London was a big voiced belter of Diva covers when she competed, and finished in 4th place, on Season 3 of American Idol.  Who could have imagined LaToya as a mohawk wearing hip-hop artist?

Urban Punk is her new project, a partnership with H2o who has worked with artists such as Mix Master Mike, Bruno Mars and Fergie.

The duo has just released two new tracks, “Around the World” and “Twisted”.   Fans who loved her impressive pipes on Idol will probably not dig these heavily produced Auto-Tuned songs.  The up side? These contemporary dance tracks are catchy and club friendly and could gain LaToya a whole new audience.

Listen after the jump.

I did not watch S3 so I do not know LaToya London at all but I really like these songs. There is a way to do dance tracks that do not sound like generic dance tracks and I think they have succeeded.

doesn’t really sound much like the LaToya I remember, but these are definitely catchy — wouldn’t be surprised if they did well as club/dance tracks.

Is Urban Punk signed to a label?

I know Latoya and her family and believe me when i say that it does sound just like her and as gay man she is going to do well in our community

As one of the few who bought Latoya’s first cd, it is indeed quite a change! As an “oldie,” it’s not my type of music but it’s nice to see her not give up. She is one of only two out of the nine seasons that I picked to win and didn’t. I wish her success but I won’t be buying it :(

It’s funny, I watched the entire season 3, and to this day, I can’t remember who Latoya was, even though I’ve gone back and watched videos of her performances. If she’d looked like this I guarantee I wouldn’t have forgotten her!

This isn’t really the kind of dance music I like personally, but she sounds good. And looks fantastic! I know this would do well in the clubs here, don’t really know much about the US club scene though. Maybe she’ll even get some international recognition?
