L.A. Reid Denies Confirming Cheryl Cole as X Factor Judge

A dubious report from UK tabloid, the Daily Mail, quoting L.A. Reid confirming UK songstress, Cheryl Cole, as a fellow X Factor US judge, has been debunked by the man himself.

Late last night, the Daily Mail claimed Reid “let slip” in an interview that Cheryl would be taking a seat next to him and Simon Cowell on the X Factor US judges panel.

“We’re gonna compete against American Idol just fine. I’m very confident. But along with Simon Cowell and Cheryl, I don’t know who the other judge is.”

The Mail reported the quote, without a source, so it comes as no surprise that Reid is now on record saying he has no idea where the quote came from.

“I don’t know where that actually came from,’ Reid tells Fox All Access, “but I know the judging roles have been quite a process for Simon…I support any decisions that he makes for the next two judges.”

Simon, cut us a break…make an announcement already, will ya?

Why do I get this nagging feeling that no “A” lister is interested in Simon’s show and playing second fiddle to the “man” himself. I’m sure there are lots of “D” listers who’d jump at the chance…but that may not fit in with what FOX thinks is appropriate. I get the feeling Simon is painting himself into a corner and the person who ends up getting the job won’t be someone who will have the industry cred that Simon wants.

the other 2 judges are obviously women

The Daily Mail seems to get it wrong more than right. I’m not going to pay any attention any more to what they publish.

I’m still trying to figure out whether Simon wants credible judges or judges that are mainly big celebrities. “A listers” don’t all automatically come with distinguished judging talents. Sometimes you get either one or the other. Maybe Simon still hasn’t figured it out for himself yet.

Reading about all this “indecision” about the X factor judges always makes me think of Newt Gingrich’s supposed advise to Sarah Palin after the last presidential election.
Gingrich was said to have told her not to let anyone know whether or not she had decided to run for president in 2012, even if she had. He said not telling anyone, and letting everyone speculate, would get her a lot more press and attention than if the matter was settled one way or another.

And this Cheryl Cole person is neither.

I think he wants judges who will impact the promotion of XF at least as much if not moreso than the new judges at AI. He probably didn’t expect AI to get so much good attention from Tyler and JLo, and I’ll betcha that has made his choice for judges a little more intense….probably a lot more intense!

I haven’t even thought about this this way, you make a lot of sense here. I think you are right. Who would really want to have his/her own ego overshadowed by Simon Cowell. Of course I am now more curious than ever who it will be, who the sucker will be?

ITA. I think early on Simon probably had it worked out as to who he wanted on the panel (and I suspect Paula and Cheryl were high on his list). Then when AI came along with Stephen and JLo, Simon realized that he needed big names to compete with AI.

Great point. It’s going to be interesting to see who he is finally able to get to join XF.

J Lo would have made an awesome X Factor judge. I bet Simon wishes he could do those negotiations over again.

I don’t know how anyone could possibly care who the X Factor judges will be at this point LOL. This shit has gone on forever.

After watching some clips of the UK X Factor, I actually just don’t think I’m interested in watching this show. Paula, of course, would be a deal breaker for me. I’m never watching a show with that whackadoodle on it again.

LA Reid is no D-lister in the music business though…

What would U.S. X-Factor’s ratings be in September if the new judge is Justin Bieber. Just a thought. Maybe that is who Simon is really going after.

What’s taking so long with naming the judging panel? We’ve been teased about this for weeks and weeks.

Also, what’s with all the wrong information (not here; elsewhere). One day Cheryl’s on board, then she was never considered, then she’s accepted the invitation, then Simon’s apparently dashed her dreams and sent her back to the UK because she’s a no name here. Already this show is losing me……….

Nothing like “sage advice” from a judge who’s still wet behind the ears. But I don’t think Simon wants X-Factor to jump the shark before it even starts. ;)

It happens every single year with the X Factor UK. They are tactics to try and keep the buzz going. The UK tabloid press laps it up so they keep doing it.
It doesn’t seem to work so well in America, and I am hoping it won’t.
