Kris Allen Is Out of Wrist Surgery – Wife Katy Thanks Fans for Their Well Wishes

Yesterday, Kris Allen tweeted, “Getting ready for surgery tomorrow morning. Gonna get this hand back to 100% no matter what it takes.” On New Year’s day Kris, his pregnant wife Katy and his pup Zorro were in a head-on collision in Arkansas. Katy and Zorro were fine, but Kris broke his wrist!

Good news came this morning. Katy tweeted that the American Idol 8 winner was out of surgery. She thanked everybody for their thoughts and prayers.

Despite being injured, Kris is determined to embark on his Out Alive (IRONY!) tour that begins on January 8 in Killington, VT.

“Don’t worry everyone I may have broken my wrist but the #OutAliveTour is still on,” Kris tweeted, just hours after the unfortunate accident, which was caused by a motorist crossing the median into into their lane.

Best wishes to Kris on a speedy recovery!

Take care & get well soon Kris!!! Do what the doctors tell you!

I’m so excited to be seeing Kris in Seattle & Portland next month!

  • MissMyEm

Thanks so much for keeping your site updated on Kris’ progress, MJ.  I am very appreciative and grateful.   So glad Kris is out of surgery and wishing him a speedy recovery.

  • Miz

This tweet from his Mom after the surgery made me tear up.

@allen_kimberlyKris Allen fans must be the ultimate fans because through all of this struggle his first concern is putting on the best show possible.

Also adding my thanks to MJ for keeping us informed and updated here.

  • tomr

Best wishes for a speedy recovery!  So happy that it wasn’t any worse.

  • hayes

I think it’s safe to say that he won’t be playing the guitar on the first few dates. I hope everything works out for him and he has a speedy recovery. I will be seeing him in California next month, and I’m not even sure he’ll be able to play by then. It’d be a great show nonetheless.

  • standtotheright

Hope he has a speedy recovery and really pays attention to his health. I really admire his insistence on showing up for the fans, but tours can be rescheduled if need be. If his wrist doesn’t heal properly, that makes it harder for him to make music in the long run.

  • bridgette12

Glad to hear the surgery went well.

  • Montavilla

I’m glad to hear that Kris came out of surgery and seems to be doing well.

Through all of this, I haven’t heard anything about the other motorist.  Do we know if s/he was seriously injured?  Not that I know the person, but I’m hoping that nobody in the crash suffered more than a broken wrist.

  • Elizabeth

Glad to hear Kris’s surgery went well.  Hopefully, he will listen to his doctor’s advice in taking care of himself and not overdo.   At least he will be with his good buddies – Cale, Chris and Big Daddy – and they can try and make sure he behaves himself. -:)

  • girlygirltoo

From what I can tell from the news reports in Arkansas, the other driver was not injured. At least not seriously. Kris is the one who was hurt the worst.

  • tripp_ncwy

We still don’t have an official police report but mj posted an update the other day.

No injuries were noted from the other driver but she did receive a citation for careless driving.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Nice to hear that the surgery went well. lol at Kris’ terrified expression in that photo!

  • linsmile

Good to know Kris is out of surgery – a major step toward recovery is behind him!  He says he’s “gonna get this hand back to 100% no matter what it takes” and I’m sure he will do just that.  But I’m very curious about what it will take.  Hoping he will be playing music again comfortably very soon.  I’m looking forward to seeing him in Minneapolis in April – for his sake I hope he’ll be comfortably playing his guitar and piano again long before that.

  • Montavilla

Thank you, tripp_ncwy and girlygirltoo.  While obviously I’m not glad that Kris broke his wrist, I’m glad that there were no more serious injuries.

  • parsenip

If his wrist doesn’t heal properly, that makes it harder for him to make music in the long run.

That’s a good point standtotheright.  Hopefully they waited a couple days for the procedure to get an expert with this type of injury to do the surgery.

I’m going to the Portland show too Eileen99 – the venue looks interesting!  I bet he’ll at least be able to do some strummin by then.

  • Ratna12

I think the next couple days after the surgery will tell Kris and his family / team if he can go ahead with the shows. It is crazy to think that the show is next Tuesday. No preparation/ rehearsal, and with him not feeling 100%. I don’t know if he will be in pain still or not, but this is tough.

Reading his mom’s tweet, I wish for Kris to be selfish and think about himself and family first. I hope that he will listen to what the doctors tell him.

  • Shoria

Is this a procedure with local anesthesia or general?

  • durbesque

I would think that wrist surgery is much less complicated than hand surgery.  It may not be necessary for him to keep the hand higher than the heart for the healing period, as it is with hand surgery.  That would certainly make touring easier, if he is determined to do it.

  • lovetheusa1776

Get well, Kris – hope to see you in Annapolis in ten days.

  • HopeForMusic

Glad that part is over!  Now, I hope he takes care of himself and heals well and with as little pain as possible.  He’s still not coming close enough for me to see him, so I’m counting on all of you who are seeing him in the coming months for lots of video, and have a blast for me!

  • nncw

I sort of wish he would rearrange his tour so he is able to take at least 10 days off after surgery just to make sure there are no complications and also hate to see him suffering with pain. I hope he is taking care of himself as he should. I know I would be disappointed if he had to cancel a show I was attending but given the circumstances his fans would understand and we all wish him the best and worry about him.

  • Miz

I’m sure Cale, Chris, and Big Daddy will be mother hens to him. Will Lindsay be going along on tour also?

  • Axxxel

Depends…. I had an average minor surgery but because at the same time I contracted an unpleasant virus infection that made me weaker, they opted for general anesthesia. Then again, if Kris is able not to cancel his tour, it means that he is actually fit (outside the wrist). If I were him, I would prefer general though. Nice temporary sleep.

  • Loretta

So happy Kris’s surgery went well and that he is on the mend.

  • Axxxel

It would be also more expensive to cancel a tour on such short notice… all those venue downpayment fees that cannot be recuperated. Then again, like you, I also prefer Kris to have the same amount of days off… It does help…

  • durbesque

Your post made me think of insurance.  Whoever is promoting this tour might have insurance to cover any unexpected adverse events… In which case, I would be in favor of Kris fully recovering before hitting the road.

  • tripp_ncwy

KAB is carrying on w/o Kris for the time being.  Also, Sean (tour mgr) was heading out today presumably to join the guys in AR.

    Cale Mills @calevis24
Chris Torres; bass player, master percussionist, hair model.

ETA: Right now there is no information about another guitarist being brought in temporarily.

  • hillstreetblooz

Hoping he heals ok, and Katy and the baby are also OK… He is blessed and awfully lucky to have come through such a horrible accident…

  • almondean88

    It is wonderful that
Kris has made it through the first phase of his recovery. Hopefully there will
be no complications from the surgery and Kris will follow his doctor’s orders!
Thank you so much MJ for providing up to the minute news over these last few
days. It was such a shock to read that first tweet from Kris’s Mom on New
Year’s Day. Since then it has been a real comfort to come here and read the
updates and all the comments. It’s been amazing to see how far and wide the
news has spread through the media. There has been a real out pouring of emotion
on twitter too. And in the midst of all this upset comes the really wonderful
news of Kris and Katy’s expected baby. Knowing how private Kris can be about
any news I expect he didn’t mean to give this information out until much later.
But the first thing you do in an emergency situation is tell all the first
responders that the lady is pregnant! I’m very glad Kris announced it first
before it leaked to the media. Kris and Katy should have the pleasure of that
announcement. It puts a whole new spin on Kris’s earlier comments about how
many great new changes were coming in the New Year. I was thinking music,
performance, band, and so on, he was thinking baby!

  • Jonins

Great to hear that the surgery is over and successful. Well, successful that no news that there were hitches during the surgery. Hopefully, the wrist will heal properly as he tours. Kristopher! Take extra care of yourself!

On the side note, I wonder if Kris knew that Katy is pregnant? Just wondering because based on the past tweets from his parents, it seems that the pregnancy news is news to them as well.

  • tripp_ncwy

I am sure he/they knew because some of Kris/Katy’s close friends already knew.

  • Jonins

Oh ok, maybe his friends knew but parents late as usual LOL. Thanks for the info.

  • girlygirltoo

There are usually “act of god” clauses in any tour contracts, which a bad car accident would likely fall under — and venues/promoters usually have insurance that would cover any loss of income because of cancelled shows

  • tripp_ncwy

lol Fuse.TV – May The Ford Be With You

WHOA: Check Out This Pic of Kris Allen’s Horrific Car CrashSeriously, how did the ‘American Idol’ winner walk away with just a broken wrist?

  • nyc57

I’m sure Cale,Chris and Big Daddy will take good care of him. They really are like a family to Kris.
My older son had wrist surgery when he was little and recovered quickly without much pain. His accident was very different but pretty horrific.Hopefully, Kris’s recovery will be similar.

  • nyc57

I have tickets  for Jan.10th in Ct  and the12th In NYC. It will be interesting to see Kris without a guitar for a whole concert. As long as I can hear his voice and enjoy his charming personality,I’ll be happy.

  • nncw

You can sign a Get Well Card for Kris at

  • Linda

Thanks for posting this. Signed the card and sent good vibes.

  • mtlfan2

i’m glad it went well for Kris. I think a cast should be kept for 6 weeks and after that exercises are required to regain the flexibility. For sure Kris will have to be patient regarding playing his guitar again — rythmic guitar does require a moving wrist

  • Ratna12

I’ll tell you what, I think Ford should give a replacement car for Kris, and put him in another commercial.

  • sagi

So glad that everyone was able to walk away from that! Wishing Kris a speedy recovery. Sad about the accident, but so happy for the baby news. Kris will make a terrific daddy! Glad someone had a plan for them and was watching over them that night :) Whatever the reason for the name of the tour, I’m sure “Out Alive” has a lot more significance now!  Get well soon Kris! And congrats to you and Katy on the news of the baby! :)

  • milwlovesadam

Wishing Kris a healthy new year, and am so relieved his wife is OK. How scary to be pregnant and in a car crash like that. Honestly wishing them the best.

  • tripp_ncwy

Posted in the headlines thread Kris has found a temporary guitarist for Out Alive Tour until his hand heals, Andrew St. Marie from Nashville an acquaintance of his tour mgr, Sean.
