Kris Allen and Haley Reinhart performed at the 94.1 Pet-A-Palooza concert in Las Vegas yesterday. Not only was the music hot, but the sun beat down so hard, Kris performed in a tank top.

Haley kept cool in a cute pair of short shorts as she performed songs from her upcoming album.

Something for everybody! Enjoy.

Kris brought his adorable puppy, Zorro to the pet-friendly event, which served as a mini-convention for adoption groups  and animal advocates.

Kris’s album, Thank You Camillia and Haley’s Listen Up! will be in stores May 22. If you haven’t heard Kris and Haley’s new music, take the opportunity now.  There is definitely some good stuff coming our way.

Kris’s girl pop medley isn’t new, but his covers of Rihanna and Katy Perry are pretty awesome.

I was at the show, and what a blast I had!  Everything worked out perfectly, allowing me to achieve a day to remember.  If you watch Haley’s video above listen to the part after her second song when she says “Hello.  Nice shirt.”  She was saying that to me after I yelled “Hi, Haley!” from front row center.  After her amazing performance I actually got to meet her, have my picture taken with her and receive a signed photo.  She is very sweet and unbelievably beautiful in person.  Great, great day!

So sad that Haley’s dog, Jango, died earlier this week. They both did amazing! I can’t wait for both their albums as they’re both my favorite people to come from Idol!

  • Anonymous

I was there as well, but my plane got in too late for me to make it to Haley’s set. There were thousands of people and pets (mainly dogs) there and it was scorching hot.

Of the acts I did hear, Kris, Matt Nathanson and Graffiti6 were all great. I wandered off during Megan & Liz’s set.

Kris was fantastic and the tank top was a nice bonus :) . And Zorro is adorable — we got to meet him at the M&G after his set. Kris brought him up on stage briefly — he really loves his dog, that’s so cute

LMFAOOO! I hope peeps listened to the songs he played, because those arms are really distracting, lol!

Wow, I really enjoyed Haley’s performance! Love the tone of her voice and the bluesy style of her songs. Her new songs sound great and what a gorgeous creature she is! I am going to have to get her album even if Adam is already straining my music budget, lol. She is unique, loved this.

Everyone better buy this girl’s album. Seriously.

  • Anonymous

Seriously Kris, I dare you to get hotter. I thought he looked great on idol, but geez. I love when he does girl pop. His cover of Britney’s hit me baby one more time is one of my absolute favorites. Honestly I don’t think there has been a contestant since him on idol that has his ability to rearrange songs in a great way. He and Adam were awesome during season 8 at doing that. It seems like everyone recently pretty much sings em straight or fails miserably at the rearrangements, cough Colton.

I agree, sleeveless is a good look for Kris, lol. Haley really impressed me musically though. That sweet but sultry tone and some truly cool songs left me wanting more. I hope her album does well, she is very talented.

Kris sounded great yesterday; Monster is really growing on me.

KMXB tweeted all during the show yesterday; keeping with the arms theme, I thought this was one of the funniest tweets I saw yesterday from anyone at the show:

This got me to thinking (or over-thinking).  If I had said the same thing about Haley’s ass, I would imagine it would be deemed skeevy.  It’s odd that the line between complimentary and creepy apparently is based on gender.   I wonder why we more readily accept objectification from females.  Is it because it is not so threatening, or because it is an expression of liberation from centuries of self-censorship  by women (or male imposed censorship), or because we cannot imagine the male being offended.

I am guessing I have had too much coffee this morning.

Loved Haleys set.  Have to get that album.

Regarding the comments on Kris looking good here, this is just my personal opinion, but both Kris and Haley are dressed kind of sexy for these performances here.  It seems that usually when someone dresses in a way to draw attention to themselves (that shows off their “assets”) then they usually don’t mind getting noticed for it.  So I would bet neither one would mind any complimentary comments.  If Kris didn’t want women staring at his arms he could easily put on a baggy t-shirt, and if Haley didn’t want men staring at her legs and butt she wouldn’t wear the skimpiest shorts she can find with high heels.  I don’t think they mind people admiring some of their good qualities.  :)

  • http://twitter.com/MoriaPolonius Moria Polonius

If I had said the same thing about Haley’s ass, I would imagine it would be deemed skeevy.

No, 90% of people wouldn’t think it was skeevy, and would more likely think it was a compliment because objectifying women is such a commonplace that it would go unnoticed. On the other hand, when I perved on Kris Allen, the topic of skeevyness came up because women are apparently supposed to be beyond objectifying men. Double standard.

I wonder why we more readily accept objectification from females.

Just the fact that we’re having this discussion shows that people don’t readily accept objectification from females.

  • http://twitter.com/HaleysShindig HaleysShindig

I think Haley and Kris’s first concern was staying cool on a stage in the Vegas heat. They can’t help it if they look sexy doing that. (And Haley’s shorts are hardly skimpy, Hollie’s were shorter the other night, just Haley fills them out well)

  • Anonymous

Really liking the changes to Monster.  I can’t wait to hear full band and studio versions of these songs.

  • MissMyEm

Oh my.  Kris sounds better and better each time I hear him.   I love Better With You.

It was extremely hot in L.A. yesterday so I imagine, out in the desert of Vegas it was even hotter.  Kris and Haley probably dressed so that they wouldn’t get heat stroke.   Thus saying…

Kris and Torres…oh to be young(er) again.   Zorro is adorable.

  • Ringo

Just to be clear, I have no problem, in principle, with females verbally objectifying males, but do have a problem with males verbally objectifying females.  I am more likely to say “Your go girl.”  And there is a difference between thinking it and saying it, so yes, it’s likely that neither Kris nor Haley would be offended.

To me it’s kinda like the “N” word.  From non-African Americans, it’s offensive.  From African-Americans, not so much.

  • Anonymous

Wow, what an incredible treat for the fans!  Kris looks amazig, sounds amazing, and what can be more fun for a crowd than when the performer has a total blast themselves?  I think that the images in these videos will be the ones I’ll flash back to when I hear these particular songs on the CD lol.  Seriously, though, Kris sounded amazing and his ability to entertain is growing in olympic sized leaps and bounds.  If he doesn’t soon come to Canada, I think I’ll be hopping on a plane myself to see him.

On the objectifying thing, for me, anything uncovered is probably okay to comment on, but more intimate parts, that a person covers, are a little skeevy to talk about.  So for me, comparing arms with a butt just aren’t the same thing at all.  Haley is obviously very proud of her legs, and I agree would probably welcome compliments on them.  So yeah, colour me old fashioned, but that’s where I personally draw the line.

  • http://twitter.com/MoriaPolonius Moria Polonius

My theory: That’s probably because of lack of equality and balance, historically and culturally. Objectification of women has been around since the dawn of humanity and taken to the hights uncomparable to the objectification of men. Nowadays it’s seen as a problem to be fought. When objectifying of men appears it gives an impression of things evening out, men being treated just like women are, and therefore seems like a positive change, heading towards equality.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

Thank you, MJ, for making a separate post for the videos. Little correction: Kris’ song is ‘Better With You’ not ‘than’. :D

Kris and Haley are both extremely attractive people as well as very talented singers and performers. Loved both of their sets. They were also both dressed appropriately for the venue and added to our viewing pleasure.

So sorry to hear about Haley’s dog. That had to be rough for her. She handled announcing it and regaining composure well.

I hope more videos surface. I want to watch Kris’ complete set. I LOVE ‘Monster’ and ‘Shut That Door’. He’s amazing. I wish I would have driven there, but I don’t think I could have handled the heat.

  • Anonymous

I’m loving Better With You more & more every time I hear it.  I think it just moved ahead of The Vision of Love into second place.  (My Weakness is my favorite).  Wow, there are going to be so many songs on TYC that I’m gonna have to listen to every day.

  • http://twitter.com/butterflydm Diana

Both Haley and Kris sounded and looked gorgeous. I hope some closer/more HQ video of Haley’s setlist pops up, but I enjoyed watching the one that we do have.

I think both of them are aware that they’re selling sex appeal along with their music – it’s a big part of the industry (more for women than men, but plenty of guys try to work that angle, too). The clothes that Kris used to wear were so much baggier than what he wears these days and I don’t think he’s unaware that it draws people’s attention; he’s deliberately changed his fashion to show off his body (and he seems much less self-conscious about doing it than when he first started changing things).

Love seeing Kris so joyful. I’ve noticed that in all of his performances this year – he’s just so happy. And he’s so expressive on “Better With You”, both facially and in his movements. Awesome.

This got me to thinking (or over-thinking).

Yeah, anything can be over-intellectualized. Why shouldn’t we just say somebody’s hot when they’re hot? It’s what we’re thinking, anyway.

  • Anonymous

HopeForMusic, you should hop on that plane!

I also was sorry to hear about Haley’s dog.  It must have been difficult for her to perform at PetaPaLooza so soon after that.

Yeah, anything can be over-intellectualized. Why shouldn’t we just say somebody’s hot when they’re hot? It’s what we’re thinking, anyway.

To be fair, I didn’t just say that Kris looks hot (he does obviously), I said the way his body looks makes me more of a fan then before. When *body* is something that makes a difference in appreciating a person, that’s objectification and people sensitive to certain problems have a tendency to zero-in on all kinds of manifestation of the problem.

Slow Sunday is slow, that’s all.

I hadn’t heard any of Halley’s songs before except Free and I liked Now that You’re Here the best of all of them.I think it would have been a better single because it very catchy. It’s hard to listen to 4 songs in a row that you never heard before, even if they are all great,She should have song an upbeat cover in the middle of the set and ended it with Now That You.re Here. Her voice sounded very good, though.

Which song do her fans like best?

  • Anonymous

Ok, I’ll bite. The answer to your question is all of the above and more. It is creepy because there have been centuries of history of men taking what they want from women without consent. It is creepy because it continues the age old tradition of valuing a woman only as the sum of her body parts. It is creepy because for generations there was no way for a woman to decline unwarranted attention from a man so women were forced to accept objectification, and women who didn’t were labeled, and still are labeled, as uptight bitches. It’s creepy because women are not allowed the same kind of freedom in public discussions about men. Your comment serves to show the kind of skepticism that is granted women when they dare to show their own desires in a public forum. And that was a comment following very very innocent comments. Imagine if I had made a comment about a “bulge” in Kris’s jeans. There wouldn’t be enough bandwidth to support the choruses of disgust for my base observation. However, if you’re looking for a really specific answer, it’s creepy in your particular comment because you chose to highlight a decidedly more sexualized part of the body than the relatively innocent aesthetic discussion of Kris’s arms that was happening before your comment, and you didn’t even recognize that you had taken it a step farther. Probably because it’s normal in our society even today for a man to  make judgements on women’s sexual attributes, and it’s so commonplace that you can do it without thinking.

  • Anonymous

Oh and you know what, just to really stir the pot, I’ll add this: I think Haley is just as sexy as Kris, if not more. So your comment was also creepy in that it assumed a heteronormative look at female sexuality.

  • Ringo

I didn’t address this (or all the other potential permutations involving age, race, religion) but I’ll bite.  Is it more  creepy for a female to objectify a female, or a male to objectify a male?  My moral/ethical compass is not offended by either as much as a male verbally objectifying a female.  I’m guessing, then, that it is the baggage I carry about males suppressing females that triggers my creep radar.

  • Anonymous

Heteronormativity here is beside the point, the line of questioning and discussion was explicitly focused on a particular case of myself, a female, objectifying a male and comparing in with males objectifying females. Ringo didn’t say that woman don’t objectify men (and objectification is what’s discussed, which is different from just finding a person attractive) or that men don’t obhjectify women. What’s under discussion is the difference in perception of male/female and female/male objectification.

BYU is a huge fave of mine, and his delivery is really cool. Fresh, kind of funky. Sexy, easy – really love it. Love his voice on it.

Kris has the most amazing innate sense of rhythm, also.

  • Anonymous

Haley’s music is so terrible.  Kris looks great, but appears a bit desperate with the muscle shirt.

  • Anonymous

I would probably say with regards to your first question that it is too soon to call, since homosexual desire has really only been acknowledged in the last five years or so. I will say though that I think lately public consensus is that for men to objectify men is more acceptable, because it is in defiance of a long history of men not being able to acknowledge other men’s attractiveness, whereas women objectifying women often brings up the question of women continuing to define each other by male desire.

But those are quibbles when compared to the male to female objectification thing, which I think you hit on the head with your hypothesis.

Listening to Kris struggle for high notes that he doesn’t have makes me wonder…. Where would Josh Groban be if he had spent his crucial early years trying to be a tenor?  Where Kris is.  I can’t help but think, if he would accept his baritone voice, and explore the glories that are in it, he would make up for lost time and advance in ways that would surprise us and him.

That girl just kills in live.  No pitch problems, there and she slides up and down the notes so effortlessly.  Love the retro vibe of her songs all bluesy and cool.  I think she is without a doubt one of the best ever to come off Idol.  Just love the tone of her voice.  Off to listen to Kris.

    Reminder:

    1. Stay on topic! Yesterday’s concert is the topic. Not a meta discussion of sexual politics.
    2. DON’T PUT WORDS IN POSTERS MOUTHS or assume what they would think on a topic. Keep your comments focused on YOUR opinion.

There was recently an article about Keith Urban discussing his recent throat operation. He described how over time he had to strain harder and harder for notes that once came easily–and he found he actually had to start writing music that fit his damaged voice.  After surgery he can sing everything he ever did.
I’m not suggesting Kris is having vocal problems but it does happen that between the time a song is written/recorded the singer’s voice can no longer support it live.

  • Anonymous

Kris sounded great and looked very cute.  I loved Shut that Door a whole lot.  Good job!

  • Anonymous

From what I’ve seen, Kris’s voice has just gotten stronger and stronger since his AI days, and that includes having more control over his range and his falsetto.  Now, I don’t actually hear him straining for any high notes in these videos, but it does appear that his throat goes dry in a couple of places, which makes it hard to push out any notes at all.  Considering that he was singing in 100 degree weather in the desert, dry throat isn’t all that surprising.  And there’s not much he can do about it in the middle of a song; all he can do is rehydrate between songs, which he was doing.

    Kris looks hot.

And omg, I love his little arm movements when he sings. It’s seriously amazing how much he’s grown as a performer since Idol. I love his dancing.

Lol, Haley’s banter is so awkward. But she sounds great.

Can’t wait for May 22!! And for both Haley and Kris to have concerts closer to where I live…

I don’t hear the struggling.  I think this may be a case of what people prefer.  His lower register is good, but Kris has more of a range than people give him credit for.  I’ve never been a fan of falsettos, case in point, Kris’ band mate Cale can never use his again, or at least when he’s performing with Kris, and I’d be happy.

I think TVOL shows how much stronger Kris’ voice is than it was three years ago, and that he’s grown more confident as a vocalist.

  • Anonymous

I must say I feel fully vindicated in commenting a while ago that “Better with You” was indeed better without Kris playing the tambourine.  Also, “Monster” continues to grow on me.

  • luly

Kris looks really hot and sounds great! I like the new songs more with each time that I hear them.

I like how Kris added the audience participation in at the end of TVOL.  He really has grown a lot as an entertainer.  I know he didn’t get a lot of sales from opening for other people, but I think it was instrumental in his development to be out with Maroon 5 and Keith Urban.  Seems like a good long term investment.

TheInsider.com: KRIS ALLEN’S GIRL POP MASHUP

“Yesterday, Kris cranked the heat up by taking the stage at Mix 94.1′s Petapalooza in Las Vegas sporting a tank top. He then muscled through a delicious girl pop mash-up (slowly becoming his signature) before delivering three tracks off his upcoming album that almost have me more excited than the aforementioned tank top.”

Not yet seen the videos, but the interesting connections those 2 have (Kris gifted Haley a Beatles Lunchbox from not long ago, them having both perform here), I think a duet in a not-so-distant future might be a good idea. I mean, both having soulful voices, that slight folky warm tone both has, I think it would be interesting. Remembering their Idol run (least likely to win from the start, impressive underdog run) makes me think that they are a good combination and role model (never give up even it looks bleak) to those who would like to join these contests or go in the music industry with not-so-good prospects. Kraley FTW!

Little late to comment but I am really lovin’ quite a few of the songs I’m hearing from Haley’s album! It sounds like she is really staying true to her smooth jazzy sound in many of them. (yay!) Hit The Ground Running I especially liked and even tho I was rather indifferent to Free when I first heard it, it is really growing on me with each listen. (probably b/c I enjoy hearing Haley’s voice so much).

Looking forward to hearing the recorded version of these songs.

I’ve been wondering if this song will get the FS/WOWY treatment with the full band and on the album. It feels like it would work well with that slow build to a rocking climax, then decrescendo back down to finish quietly. Wouldn’t that be awesome??
