Good performance. Crystal did Natural Woman better IMO, but Kelly did a fine job as well.

    Kelly Clarkson ?@kelly_clarkson
@TheEllenShow you and your wife were the best people to watch a show with! Thank you for a fun night and the drink ha!

  • IrisandLilies

Of the two songs Kelly performed, I thought Natural Woman was the far better performance.  The Tennessee Waltz, to me, is a tender song and unsuited to belting.

BTW, Kelly’s acceptance speech was wonderful.  She was funny and exuberant and had great things to say about other performers.  In a way,  her speech reminded me of Meryl Streep’s acceptance speeches, which are always top-notch.

Kelly’s acceptance speech was the best of the night (as was her entire circuitous route to the stage).

I don’t buy her music except for the odd single, but I always enjoy hearing her sing live. I think she definitely the best voice, male or female, from Idol.

It’s incredible in the pop world to win a Grammy award 8 years after winning the first two. To be 30 in this industry and still have everything in front of you and so much more time to put out great music with that amazing voice, well, Kelly really is on top of the world.

Amazing and perfect. what a gorgeous voice. She remains the reigning Queen.

Seeing the picture from the Photo Bomb makes me wonder why Kelly wasn’t sitting in the front row with other great nominees. She was nominated for more than 1 award, she deserved to be.

I read that Kelly is the first artist to win Pop Vocal Album of the year Grammy twice and in looking at Grammy.com it appears to be true.

As much as winning Pop Vocal Performance would’ve been nice or Record of the Year, winning a Grammy for her entire body of work for this era is even more impressive.

Nice that Justin praised Kelly on twitter:

    Blake Shelton ?@blakeshelton
So Miranda and I have talked about it. And I don’t care what anybody says. ANYBODY.. @kelly_clarksonis THE best singer on earth. Thanks for confirming that. Great accomplishment!

It was a great night for her. As I have said before, Clarksonspaz is awesome.

Not really. I liked it better the way she sang it last night. I guess I’m not a big fan of whistle notes, although to do capture the attention.

I didn’t think she belted Tennessee Waltz at all. She sang it her way though which was a little different than the style of the 50′s when Patti sang it.

    Short and sweet:
Grammys 2013: Grades for All 20 Performances!
    by Michael Slezak

Kelly Clarkson“Tennessee Waltz”/”(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman”Paying
tribute to Patti Page and Carole King, the original American Idol
somehow made relevant an old-fashioned country ditty, and then took
glorious possession of one of the greatest pop-soul ballads ever
written. Honestly, if she’d flown out of the auditorium like Superman at
the end of her performance, it wouldn’t have shocked me in the least.
Girl cannot be human. Grade: A+

  • heartly

haha  you got your spaz moment and she didn’t disappoint.

I’m not even going to pretend and try to give a balanced review. It’s no secret I’m a big fan of her and last night was everything I enjoy so much about Kelly. A little nuts, scatterbrained, un-pc, at times embarassing, a lot awesome, and can not only sing a song great but interpret them as well. She is on such a high lately and it’s been such a joy to watch because it’s spilling over to everything she’s been doing. She actually seems to be genuinely enjoying all the opportunities she’s had this past year+ instead of kinda sorta enjoying them*. There were some dark, lean years there for awhile. lol

    * yes, I am implying that Brandon and all that’s come from that is spilling over to her work in a very positive way. She has a balance she’s never had before.

I love that she sang these two songs instead of something out of her own catalog. After finally getting to watch almost the whole show, the tribute fit in with the whole thing more than any song of her own would’ve and it showed off what a great singer she is that I think sometimes gets lost with people on all of her pop stuff.

I read that Kelly is the first artist to win Pop Vocal Album of the year Grammy twice and in looking at Grammy.com it appears to be true.

As much as winning Pop Vocal Performance would’ve been nice or Record
of the Year, winning a Grammy for her entire body of work for this era
    is even more impressive.

That’s quite an accomplishment and I agree. The album award was the one I really didn’t think she had a chance of getting and I’m glad I was wrong about that.

    This is cool!

    Kelly Clarkson ?@kelly_clarkson
Don’t worry about it …I’m just hanging out with one of the best singers in the world :) what a cool chick as well! pic.twitter.com/qgfxhpiy

Nice tweet from Pink that Kelly appreciated:

    P!nk ?@Pink
Congrats to Kelly Clarkson for the award and that love able speech. You made me laugh. Can’t wait to hear that song with Miguel. Xo

    Kelly Clarkson ?@kelly_clarkson
@Pink um …..this just made my night! I love you! I am a horrible public speaker. I want to vomit and cry all at once ha :)

Also, looks like Miguel was cool with Kelly’s mention of him in her speech (and wanting to duet with him):

    Miguel ?@MiguelUnlimited
@Kelly_Clarkson say when! You killed tonight, MUCH LOVE

Thanks for posting that review. Michael has reviewed all 20 performances and given out some tough grades to a few:

I disagree with Slezak. Taylor Swift is not  charming in any way.  She does have a good stylist, however.  I like her clothes.

  • overthetop1

She was great on Tennessee Waltz.

  • tibitibis

Congrats to Kelly , i was waiting for her moment on the Grammy’s ….and what moments she gave to the audience yesterday !

  • CB40

I love the latest round of acknowledgments she’s getting from peers like Pink and Justin, that’s just awesome to see.

I adore Kelly Clarkson- she is so real and such a sweetheart !
This rendition of Tennessee Waltz just blew me away – I’m dying o hear her record a country album of classics like this – she can literally sing anything , but ehr duet with Jason Aldean woke up a lot of new fans , I hope . Kelly , you are our girl and we love you !

  • windmills

The great thing about Kelly’s Grammy performance is how it showed beyond any shadow of a doubt how she’s come into her own as a vocalist. She has her own style now, soulful without being imitative of Aretha or Mariah or Whitney, gravelly without being imitative of Janis Joplin, and classic pop in a way that reminds of Judy Garland and Brenda Lee without imitating either. The Patti Page and Carole King songs showed better than any single original song Kelly has out there right now what she can do, and it’s going to be so fascinating seeing Kelly find original material that lets her express her better. The absolute best thing about her being in Nashville is the access it’ll give her to songwriters who have a broader view of pop than CHR and really a broader view of any genre (including country) than what’s on the radio. I can’t wait to see what comes.
