Kellie Pickler just returned from a USO tour where she squeezed in visits to 9 cities in 5 days including, Germany, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo and England. She posted a few thoughts on her tour yesterday in a My Space blog:

I am more tired than I have ever been in my life and I don’t mind it at all. I just got back from my second USO tour. Once again, the most incredible thing I have ever done in my life.

I don’t think I have ever flown this much in my life. Monday we flew to Washington where we joined Admiral Mike Mullen (chairman of the joint chief of staff) to board our flight on a C-32 to Germany. That is where we kicked off our first show. I still can’t believe that in a matter of 6 days we flew to Germany, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, and England. The shows did not start until we landed on Tuesday and if I remember correctly we did 9 shows in 5 days!!!! I guess I am still on auto pilot, not sure why I am even up right now as I just got in from England late last night. lol. I don’t think this trip has really sunk in yet so it might take me a while to absorb everything….I’m kinda drawing blanks right now. I do however remember two things….seeing the faces of over 20,000 military men and women (that is forever imprinted in my mind) and….the horrific endless sight of porta potties (that too is forever imprinted in my mind).

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to the men and women serving our country. I will never take what you do for granted.
God Bless You and God Bless the USA!
xoxo, Pickler

Also not taking for granted? Indoor plumbing…

Kellie will be announcing the the winners of the 3rd Annual CMT Online Awards on Friday at 3:30 pm on CMT. Plus, she’ll be ringing in the New Year with Ryan Seacrest on December 31 as a special correspondent for ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. 10 pm.

    :) She’s such a sweetheart!

Good for her. Oh man, 9 cities in 5 days. That’s equal parts awesome and grueling. Is Cookie’s USO schedule in January going to be this tight?

  • IdolFanatic

It’s great to see the Idol alum getting to do that kind of thing. I believe Diana DeGarmo was the first from Idol to do a USO tour. I’m surprised Kelly Clarkson hasn’t done one.

Kellie Pickler is very sweet and much more intelligent than she often portrays herself to be.

She’s wonderful, and I am sure she lifted the spirits of our servicemen and women. I know any contact from home is uplifting. She’s a ray of sunshine!

    Indoor plumbing is underrated! LOL!

Good for Kellie! Glad she’s back home safe. I’m sure the troops appreciated her efforts. My brother recently returned from Iraq, and I have a brother-in-law who leaves for Iraq in a couple months. We definitely owe all the troops our gratitude. Theirs is a dangerous, difficult job. (Especially hard at this time of year when they want so much to be home with their families!) Nicely done, Kellie!

It’s a pleasure to watch her growing in awareness and expanding her horizons. Go Kellie!

    I hate to nitpick, but…

Chinese New Year? (just trying to help, MJ)

Kellie either has a really good blog editor or she’s not nearly as “dumb” as she pretends. Either way, she’s a class act IMO. Good on her for giving back. Makes me want to buy her album, and I honestly had never given it a thought before.

Kellie isn’t dumb but she’s not educated and hasn’t seen much of the world (obviously that is changing). That “dumb blonde” persona seems to be something she adopted for herself and it got her to where she is, but I see her striving for more, and good for her. Her best friend is Taylor Swift, which is only going to be a good influence for her, as Taylor is a secure young woman who knows her own mind. Taylor’s mother has also kind of adopted Kellie. Never having had parents to speak of, and as her grandmother’s passed on, Kellie needs that kind of support in her life, and good for her that she’s reaching out for it.

Her 2nd cd is better than the first and has some mature songs on it. Also with her sparkling personality and good looks, Kellie continues to get gigs on tv. It’s all very exciting to watch happen for her. She had a rough childhood and it’s great to see her rising above it.
