Country Vibe is confirming that Keith Urban has accepted an offer to be an American Idol judge.

Sources have confirmed exclusively to The Country Vibe that Keith Urban has accepted an offer from American Idol to sit at the judges table next to Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj and a rumored fourth judge that will likely not be Randy Jackson for the upcoming season of the show.

According to their source, Keith will earn $3 million to join Idol. I am perfectly cool with a panel made up of Nicki Minaj, Mariah Carey and Keith Urban.

You’ve got Nicki, who will bring a current vibe and a relevance to the proceedings. As a bonus, she’s totally cray cray and will likely have no problem offering blunt critiques to the contestants. Her unpredictability could be a lot of fun.

Mariah is the legend. And as a superb singer and performer, she’s in a position to offer contestants sound advice on the technical aspects of performing.

Besides being HOT. Heh. Keith will represent a genre that’s played an important role on Idol. One of the show’s most successful alums is Carrie Underwood and there have been a slew of Idols, including Scotty McCreery and Kellie Pickler who have had success on the country charts. I’m surprised it took Idol this long to put a country person on the panel.

Now, for that 4th spot? Please move Randy Jackson into a mentoring role. He can hang out with Jimmy Iovine in the back. I would really love a relevant record producer to take that spot. But, I have a feeling they are going to go with a teen idol type such as Nick Jonas, to grab the youth demo.

This person is a very big Adam fan. What more do you need to know before discounting it as wishful thinking? Trust me, I know you who you are talking about and they are counting their chickens before they are hatched. Before they are even laid, for goodness sakes.

There is no confirmation of a Tuesday announcement anywhere because no press conference or announcement has been scheduled. Idol usually waits until after Labour Day and there is no reason for them to do anything different this year, particularly if the Minaj contract hasn’t been inked yet.

Well I’ll still believe this when I actually hear it from Keith’s own lips. He would be great. I watched The voice Australia & he was a wonderful mentor to his group & a good judge. Maybe ha can change the Idol atmosphere of not getting too close to the idols.I think after mentoring he would get frustrated not being able to be within arms length of them.

Selection of Idol judges is not earth shattering gossip though, not to the general public. And if they were given the exclusive information, they would hold it for a few days. They do that stuff all the time in order to keep their sources for future scoops for really big stories. Nicki Minaj and Mariah were the big names for the panel and that information is already out there. If the addition to the panel is Adam, that’s, for the most part, pretty mid-level news. It is only big news for Adam and Idol fans at this point.

Keith Urban has had voice problems, yes, but there has been NO GAP in hearing his music on country radio.  At least not that I can tell.  And at least not so far . . .

Whoops, I see that Windmills already corrected this, with more information than I can provide.  I just know that I listen to country music and haven’t noticed an absence by Keith at all.  That said, being on Idol won’t hurt Keith’s career, and it may introduce him to a different (non-country) audience.
