Katharine McPhee’s “Smash” is Almost Here (VIDEO)

The promotion for the new series, Smash, featuring Katharine McPhee is in full gear.  Katharine, the rest of the cast and producers sat for a panel of reporters today in Los Angeles to answer questions.

NBC’s highly-touted new show is a musical drama that will follow the creation and casting of a Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe. According to producers, Season 1 (which begins on Monday February 6 at 10/9c , and will run for 15 episodes) will take “Marilyn” to an out of town tryout.  Season 2 will prepare the musical for Broadway.

Original songs penned for the show will be available on  iTunes within the same week.  One big difference between Smash and Glee (which executive producer, Craig Zadan gives credit for breaking a barrier for musicals in primetime) is that each episode will feature ORIGINAL songs, rather than just covers.

American Idol alum, Katharine McPhee, plays Karen Cartwright, a fresh-faced mid-western girl looking to make it on the Great White Way. Megan Hilty portrays Ivy Bell–an older, established Broadway performer.  Both are vying to play Marilyn in the new musical.  Producers at today’s panel said that the Smash crew split into Team Karen and Team Ivy!

In this new preview, the cast and producers talk about Smash and you’ll see glimpses of some of the performances, including Katharine in costume as Marilyn.

The critical buzz on this is EXTREMELY positive, and I have to say, what I’ve seen so far, looks pretty sensational. I’m looking forward to Smash. Are you?

The pilot will be available for viewing prior to February 6. On January 16, the premiere episode be available to both Comcast Xfinity On Demand and XfinityTV.com, iTunes, Amazon, Xbox,  Playstation, Samsung MediaHub and Vudu. It will also be available on NBC.com and  Hulu beginning January 23.

The cast also includes Angelica Huston, Debra Messing and Jack Davenport.
