Holy Moly.

Jordin Sparks performs an impromptu cover of Demi Lovato’s powerful new single “Skyscraper” from the comfort of her hotel room and it’s….amazing!

The Season 6 Idol’s  quiet intensity is beautiful and moving and makes me wonder what a Jordin Sparks version of the tune would sound like.   LISTEN NOW.

Fun fact: Jordin reportedly did a demo of the song. Demi picked it up and left Jordin’s background vocals on it. thanks sr4mjc Demi Lovato version.

Holy Crap- now THIS I would have bought. Demi can only dream of sounding like this.

Now there is a natural talent. Here is someone can sing on tune with no marching bands, fiddlers or flaming pianos. Just simple and perfect. She has a lot of potential. With the weight loss she is gorgeous. They could easily make her into the next “it” girl.

If true, apparently Jordin recorded a demo version and passed on using it. Demi picked it up and recorded it, but left Jordin’s vocals in as the background.

Jordin tweeted Demi thanking her for leaving her vocals in.

Jordin sounds great, she always sounds like a Disney princess to me. I like her voice better than Demi’s but I think Demi emotes the song better.

    @JordinSparks
Go grab #Skyscraper by @ddlovato… GIRL you KILLED that! Thanks for keeping my bgvs on it! You’re gonna change hearts w/ this song! <3

The more I listen to Jordin, the more I think that she’s one of the most highly underrated of all of the Idol winners.

It is shocking to me to say it, but I agree! I hate the way Demi Lovato sings and always have, but I think this song is powerful and she puts a lot of emotion into it. I saw the Lovato video for the first time today and WOW… it seems so much like she is singing to her demons, you can see the pain in her face.

Jordin sang it beautifully and even got into the emotion of the song, but it doesn’t pack anywhere near the gutpunch of Lovato’s version. Maybe because she doesn’t have the same backstory? Here it seems very uplifting/Disney girl singing about a bad breakup. Very pretty, but there is no danger to it, just angst maybe? Like at no point was she really going to shatter like glass, maybe just eat a lot of ice cream with her girlfriends and pout. Nothing wrong with that though. It is just not the same.

I do want to hear Jordin’s new stuff. John Legend? Very curious about it.

Beautifully sung by Jordan but I think the song was truly meant for Demi to sing, heart and soul.

  • Chicagolaw

Maybe if I hadn’t heard Demi sing it first…

Jordin has a beautiful voice, but Demi “lives” the song when she sings it. And I can’t believe I am actually saying this—because I am SO not a fan of the Disney crowd. (It’s probably the only Demi song I will ever like)

  • ituneit

Demi may be living the song, emoting etc, etc, but Jordan is singing in a hotel room goofing around with a song playing faintly on a computer. I think it would be difficult to compare someone with a full on studio production complete with tweeking and auto tuning to someone singing with no retakes in a hotel room and probably holding back a bit so as not to disturb other guests

  • spallook

    That was phenomenal!

Yeah. That. Demi’s version is chill-inducing, but I find Jordin’s quiet interpretation different, but still effective.

At this point, it is Demi’s story. She sings the song like she’s lived it. Which she has. But it still doesn’t diminish Jordin’s take on the song, imo.

That was really, really fantastic. I would love to hear a recorded version of that, or a live performance on stage. She would kill the upper register, but I feel like she held back a little because she was in a hotel, haha. But nonetheless, awesome job. I really hope Jordin comes out with another hit soon like she’s had before because she is seriously great.

  • JJ123

Yes she sings it well but it just seems weird that she had to put this out there….kinda like she regrets not taking the song and now she’s stealing thunder.

  • Ringo

Wow, just read on Twitter that Pia is considering that song for her album. I seriously doubt it’s true but one wonders what kind of magic Ms. Toscano will conjure with this song.

  • jack5791

I doubt that is true consideng Demi seems to be doing well with the song, but if this was true, I would be really happy. I think Pia would kill it.

FLOVE her now :) and I love the song

Why in the world would Pia be doing covers on her album?

More twitter crap. I doubt very much that it’s true.

This was fantastic! I agree with one of the comments up above that Jordin Sparks may be one of the most underrated Idol alums. Wasn’t a fan of her’s during Season 6, but her voice, ability to emote, and past success are rather impressive.

  • mandabutter

    Chilllllllls!!
Jordin is awesome-sauce! :) Can’t wait to hear new music from her.

Demi Lovato is great as well; her video adds so much to the interpretation and overall effect. Just watching her I get teary-eyed thinking about what she’s gone thru in this business.
    Thanks for sharing Jordin!

Its a good song and Jordin sang “Skyscraper” beautifully. I actually like it a lot more the way Jordin sang it – and she sang it live and sings that good. That Demi Lovato girl has a mediocre voice, and only the studio make her sound decent on that song. At least she sounds better than that Selena Gomez with the harsh voice.

What’s going on with Jordin’s own music though. She should be promoting that. I know she released a single. I like the beats of “I am woman”, but didn’t care for the song that much. She needs to put out another single. I hope that will do well like Battlefiled and be as good. I like Jordin. I loved that song “The world I knew” she did for the movie “African cats”
