Please note that the above numbers are the Top 50 song from the download charts plus a few extra songs that have made à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“interestingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ gains in the top 200. Later today, Ken Barnes at Idol Chatter (USA Today) will come out with the full list of Idols in the top 200. We get data as it dribbles out.

Here is some of the airplay chart (this is a differential from last week so the numbers in brackets are gains or losses in millions of audience impressions since last week). Before recurrents are removed:

    No. 11 – Jennifer Hudson ( 1.6 million) lw 14
    No. 36 – Daughtry (-1.7 million)lw 32
    No. 43 – David Archuleta ( 0.2 million) lw 41
    No. 556 – David Cook ( 1.6 million)lw OFF

Jennifer is number 1 on the R&B airplay chart.

    Go Rockyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ I mean Crushà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. I hope this open the door for great sales for the albumà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.Go Archieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Speaking of which, Archie’s album shows up in iTunes in the genius sidebar when you play Crush. You get an error message that it’s not available yet when you press “pre-order,” but it could mean that a pre-order is imminent. Here’s hoping.

And congrats to all the Idols! Love how consistent Crush has been, and it’s hit the 3/4 million mark. It’s airplay took a hit yesterday when z100 (#1 station) cut its spins in half. z100 does that to a lot of songs before they move them up to heavy rotation. Hopefully that’s what it means. But yeah… its airplay was just fine until z100 did that. It’s just really staying steady now. Any downward movement in ranking is because faster moving songs are moving ahead of it. The radio promotional tour should help, I think. Maybe not right away, but soon.

LO’s sales should increase substantially next week, so that’s great. And it’ll get a bump when the video comes out as well, and from SNL.

How did the timeline work for Archie’s video? Was it premiered on VH1 before it was up for sale on iTunes? I’m guessing the “Light On” video will be available for purchase on 11/4 (maybe with yet another iTunes ad?) (btw, “Light On” is now up to #19 on the iTunes chart)

  • caringgirl

Congratulations to our 2 davids!! Crush is such a great song. Its not even my kind of music that I normally like, but David won me over with his voice!!

Congratulations to David cook too. Light On should see a huge jump next week. Then SNL and the video when it comes out…november is gonna be a great month for the davids!!

How did the timeline work for Archieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s video? Was it premiered on VH1 before it was up for sale on iTunes? The video for Crush went up on iTunes before VH1 added it. I think VH1 waited a week before adding it. The N added it right away (and LO could get The N play, given its theme). MTV Hits and Music On Demand stations added Crush 2-3 weeks ago. So it’s a rolling thing–not all at once. Given how RCA is doing things, I would think the video would get ads on iTunes. They want to keep the ads going all the way up until the album release because they help immensely with sales. The week the Crush video came out, the single moved into the top 10 again on iTunes, reaching #7 and selling over 90K copies… because of the ads. Yeah, ads help a lot, and we’re seeing that right now with LO’s upward momentum.

Did TOML already pass Kelly’s AMLT?

  • jpfan

“LOà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sales should increase substantially next week, so thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s great.”

It’ll go up 100% minimum. Unless I’m wrong, LO singles sales are being fueled by the pre-sales of the album. I think when you buy the pre-sale you actually buy the single. Then when the album is released you get the credit for the cost of the single. So Cook is getting credit for both album sales and single sales. I guess the same deal works with Beyonce’s single as well.

I guess it’s just creative accounting and I’m assuming a chunk of both singles is fueled by true single sales. Kind of hard to know the actual number though. Smart RCA, very smart. :)

That’s exactly what is happening. Now, when people download the album on Nov. 18, those LO single sales will be subtracted from the total number sold (that’s how the “complete my album” feature works too), but the historical chart placements of LO won’t change, and having it move up in the top 100 of itunes fuels sales all by itself. The big banner ads on top are probably also fueling single sales apart from the pre-order because when you click on the banner and go to the pre-order page you have the option just to buy LO. A lot of people will just do that and will wait for song samples before purchasing the whole album.

I believe that Magic Rainbow is still about 20,000 shy of A Moment Like This and about 40,000 shy of Clay’s coronation song. (Based on the numbers that Ken Barnes posted earlier this summer.) Magic Rainbow is pretty stubborn—every time that you think that it will go away, it just keeps going. It had dropped off the itunes Top 100, only to bounce back up into it again. Heh.

  • RV65

Wow so proud of the Davids! Both are living their dreams……….I hope both sustain their careers……….

Go Archie go! Go Archie go!

yaaay go Archie!!! I think Crush will peak just in time for D Day – 11/11! Wouldn’t be surprised if some major market adds mysteriously hit at just the right time… :cool_wp:

I really can’t wait for his album – it is gonna be great!

  • RV65

I was lost at “recurrents” as used in “after deducting recurrents” anyone who is not busy can please explain? thank you………..these charts facinate me……

  • gabam

    From Idol Chatter:

Bucky stayed at 2,000 and passed his Season 5 comrade Katharine in sales, hitting 374,000.

Katharine stayed at 100, total 373,000.

Bucky has outsold Katharine. Go Bucky! He just may sell Gold. I hope so.

  • Kirsten

    I was lost at à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“recurrentsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ as used in à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“after deducting recurrentsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ anyone who is not busy can please explain?

In order to keep the charts “fresh” and give new songs/albums/whatever a chance, older items on the charts become recurrent. For instance, albums older than 18 months and below 100 in the Top 200 will become recurrent and no longer appear on the Top 200 chart (but can appear on the Catalogue chart). Or a song has been N weeks on an airplay chart and dropped below a certain rankings. I believe songs older than 2 years automatically go to recurrent.

A recurrent song is basically a song that would have charted had it not been claused. The first airplay chart I post includes recurrents. That means when the final airplay charts (which do not include these claused songs) are published, new songs will likely place higher on the chart.

  • RV65

Really interesting…thanks Kirsten….I always anticipate this section of this blog site….kudos!
