Scotty McCreery comes with ‘Idol’ tour to Joe Louis Arena

As Season 10’s champ, the 17-year-old McCreery is not only headlining the 48-date trek but, when there’s rare free time, is “going to the nearest studio” to continue recording his debut album, which is expected to be out before the end of the year. It doesn’t leave much time to relax.

But McCreery insists that he’s “really having fun, ” and he finds this pace preferable to the actual “American Idol” competition.

“I’d say it’s definitely easier, ” explains McCreery, who’s the youngest male and second-youngest contestant (behind Jordin Sparks) to win an “Idol” season. “On this tour I do kind of get to relax; I’m not on till the end, so I get to relax the whole show until the very end when I have to go out. I definitely have the pressures of getting the album out, and my days off are still pretty much recording or doing interviews or something, sure.

American Idol’s Scotty: There’s always light at end of tunnel

We couldn’t resist a chance at getting some tips from “American Idol” winner Scotty McCreery before a recent show.

Question: What’s one thing worth remembering in tough times?

Answer: There’s always the light at the end of the tunnel. Sometimes you’ve got to work through some tough times and you’ve got to work really hard. It might seem like it’s never going to work out or you’re never going to break through, or you’re never going to get that record deal, but if you just keep working through, you never know what can happen.

Happy accident helps propel ‘Idol’ No. 3 Haley Reinhart into recording deal

But this year on “American Idol, ” the 20-year-old Chicagoan used her seductive growl to escape near-elimination in the early rounds and finish strongly in third place in the competition. Thing is, her signature move was nothing she ever planned on doing.

“It’s funny, I never really did that at all before I got onto ‘Idol, ‘ ” says Reinhart, on the phone last week from a tour stop in Charlotte, N.C. “And I remember during ‘God Bless the Child’ that sound just came out of me, and there was no turning back.”

“It’s better than what I thought it would be, ” Pickler tells Taste of Country. “I never thought I’d be at this particular place in my life, so that’s a real surprise for me, and I’m glad I jumped because I’m so very happy with Kyle. I can’t complain as far as he and I go. I’ve been really, really blessed as far as that’s concerned. Jerry Lewis out as Muscular Dystrophy Association chairman

(CNN) — The Muscular Dystrophy Association announced Wednesday that comedian Jerry Lewis is no longer serving as the organization’s national chairman.

Lewis, 85, and MDA had announced in May that he was retiring as host of the MDA Labor Day Telethon in September. But he said then in a statement that he was planning to continue to serve as the organization’s national chairman.

Jim Brown, vice president of public relations for the MDA, told CNN in a telephone interview that Lewis will not be replaced in his role as national chairman.

He also said that Lewis will not host this year’s telethon, which is scheduled for September 4. Instead, it will be hosted by Nigel Lythgoe, Nancy O’Dell, Allison Sweeney and Jan Carl, Brown said.

New Crib for Glee’s Chris Colfer in Laurel Canyon

BUYER: Chris Colfer
LOCATION: Los Angeles, CA
PRICE: $860, 000
SIZE: 2, 462 square feet, 2 bedrooms, 2.75 bathrooms

Sassy Mister Colfer will inevitably move on to bigger and better things. As per both The Bizzy Boys at Celebrity Address Aerial and our impossibly well-informed confrère Lucy Spillerguts–he will also soon move into a new house that hovers over the rugged Laurel Canyon area of Los Angeles, CA.

Property records show that Mister Colfer, through a trust, paid $860, 000 for an ass-uglee residence perched on the last hairpin curve of a secluded cul-de-sac high above Laurel Canyon. A deeper dive into the property records reveals that Mister Colfer bought the blue beast out of foreclosure. Some of the resident Real Estate Chicken Littles around here will surly go giddy when they learn the non-celeb sellers of Mister Colfer’s new crib purchased the property just over two years ago for a substantially higher $1, 232, 000 and lost the house, according to the docs we peeped, into the snapping claws of foreclosure in September 2010.
