Kelly Clarkson Talks Football, ‘Entitled’ ‘American Idol’ Contestants and New Judge Mariah Carey – “All of these kids [treat it like] it’s a level of entitlement or something..They just think because you are on the show you are all of the sudden a star, but it’s not about being a star,” she confesses. “On our season we were like kids in camp. Nobody knew what to do. The show was ever changing every day. They did one season of Pop Idol in the UK but America is a very different market. They dropped us off in a mall and said find some clothes to wear on national television. I am maybe the closest to white trash you can get. What do I buy? White pants I guess? I definitely looked like a cocktail waitress.” She laughs at the memory, but says it was a learning curve for everyone involved-even the producers. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Christina Aguilera on Pairing With Billie Joe Armstrong on ‘The Voice’ – For Aguilera, who said at a recent press junket for The Voice that she is working on a new album, it was inspiring to be around Armstrong, who is as involved in the process of making Green Day’s albums as Aguilera is with her music. “I think that sometimes pop music does get stereotyped as ‘We don’t have as much control or say-so over the creative works behind the producing’ and whatnot,’” she says. “I specifically am an artist that’s very involved in my own producing, creative and all of the efforts that go into putting together my album as an artist.”  - Read more at Rolling Stone

Yes, and Haley’s advance was less than $100K, not the $250K++ the winner gets (plus higher royalties)

  • justmefornow

I agree. Haley wasn’t a winner, so she probably had more leeway. P2 isn’t going to have the same freedom.
The problem is his voice doesn’t lend itself to the type of music that listing described. So unless they have about a dozen “Homes” lined up, that music isn’t going to sell well anyway.

    Moving to other thread….

I don’t think James and Jimmy actually “battled”. With James it was more like:

Jimmy: “you’re gonna sound like this and work with so and so”

    James: “no thanks, bye bye”

James didn’t lose some artistic battle with Jimmy, Interscope made him an offer and he rejected it.

Elliott’s going to do a small Japanese tour in November. Yay.

I think a large number of American artists have huge/big/considerable success (depending on the artist) outside the US. at least in Finland they do. There are countries in which the domestic artists seem to be the majority of the artists on the lists, though. But American artists definitely have big success abroad.
It definitely is true that it is usually very difficult for an European or an Asian or Australian (any foreign artist, in general) to make it big in the US. Adele and older British star artists and bands are an exception.

I’d love to find that site – or buy the whole Season 7, if it’s available.

Ellen said something similar, remember? Idol is now getting contestants who grew up watching the show and they have always throught of the contestants as stars. Once they get on they think they are stars already.

Pia, Haley, P2 & Jessica are solely signed to Interscope. I have no clue what the plan is for Pia. She has been off the grid for a long time.

I love Lee’s songwriting and I’m so happy that another singer will record one of his song.  If I remembered right Lee called it “Lullaby” then fans called it “Hummingbird.” I heard Lee singing this song and its so beautiful and hopefully non-Lee fans will enjoy it as well.

I didn’t count Pia, since things seem to have fizzled out with her music career.  How do you know Jessica is signed with them?  Did I miss something?

  • Anonymous

Interscope website has them all listed. Plus she has mentioned it in interviews. Pia is still signed even if it is only a development deal.

  • justmefornow

lol. I could see that. But I think it was even more than musical sound, I don’t think they would have let him pick his band. That could have been the last straw.
Oh well, water under the bridge.

Yeah musical direction was probably not the only reason James rejected their offer. James addresses the issue a bit in an interview at Rock on the Range. Seems Jimmy had some ideas that made him go “WTF?” In the Lazer interview he mentioned meeting with one label who couldn’t even tell him who their rock acts were when he asked them, he said he had to tell them. In the end James chose Wind-up because he felt their offer was the best one. I supported his decision from the beginning and today we can see that he made the right choice.

He’s got good gut instincts, I agree.
Now lets hear some new songs! This next album will really be him.
    Sink or swim.
After hearing ITNOL and of course Crawling Home, I’ve got a really good feeling this one’s gonna be great.

Were you talking to me about Season 7?

  • Anonymous

Yes, I replied to your posting about Season 7 being available for viewing on a site. I said I’d love to find that site or buy the whole Season, if it is available somewhere on a DVD (or video). Maybe I’ll Google later on today!

Don’t know of any way to buy, hope you saw my link a couple of minutes ago – but it went “poof”, lol.  But one more time…

THANK YOU So Very Much wordnerdarchie!! That’s great!

I don’t have time or patience to look for the performance clips in YouTube – it’s fun sometimes to watch them with the judges’ comments and Ryan’s questions.

I have a DVD of David Cook’s performances on AI, including the audition and Hollywood Week, which I bought at EBay maybe three years ago. But still it’s nice to watch more of that season! As I’ve posted here before, there has been the only season when I’ve had a clear No. 1 contestant in AI from the beginning to the end – DC, of course. Usually my favorites change during the season, at least a little.

    Thank you once again!

And thank you MJ for your Blog! Whenever I start to read the comments (not only news), I get stuck here for hours…

Glad you caught it, cause I’m removing it now…. Keep the bookmark & open in new tab/window is the easiest for moving through the playlists.  Enjoy. :D
