‘Nashville’ To Get $12.5 Million from State of Tennessee – The state of Tennessee is slated to contribute up to $12.5 million to ABC’s production of Nashville‘s second season, in order to keep the show’s production and crew in Music City. Metro government will also chip in $500,000, pending council approval, according to The Tennessean. The Nashville Convention & Visitors Corp. and Metro’s Event Marketing Fund also will contribute $125,000 each. – Read more at Music Row

Justin Timberlake Nudity-Heavy Video Remains on YouTube – Before the video plays on Justin Timberlake’s VEVO channel, YouTube users are presented with a explicit content warning that they must click on before playing the video. While Google does not usually allow nudity in videos, a Google spokesperson told ABC News that the video is an exception. “While our Guidelines generally prohibit nudity, we make exceptions when it is presented in an educational, documentary or artistic context, and take care to add appropriate warnings and age-restrictions,” a Google spokesperson told ABC News on Friday morning. – Read more at ABC News

I would be very upset about the state bribe of $12.5M to Nashville if I were a tax-paying citizen of Tennessee. Those who stand to profit directly from the show being filmed there should be the ones coughing up the money if anybody does.

I don’t know the exact breakdown, but ‘Nashville’ shooting in Tennessee has been a pretty big economic boost for the cstate, from a tourism standpoint but also from the point of view of local jobs created and local businesses supported. A USA Today article estimated the economic impact of a full season being shot on location at $44 million last October, while in May, The Tennessean estimated the local economic impact at $40 million.

So the rationale for the grant is that the economic impact of production staying in Tennessee outweighs the grant. I don’t know if I’d agree with the rationale if I knew the specifics of how the economic impact of local production was distributed, but that’s because I don’t actually know how it’s distributed.

According to THR, ‘Nashville’ has promoted Lennon & Maisy (Maddie & Daphne) as well as Chris Carmack (Will) to series regular status. Lennon & Maisy are probably the 2 actors who are the show’s biggest musical assets, or at least they’re up there with Scarlett & Gunnar (especially as a duo). Will has what I think may be the season’s most intriguing storyline if the show handles it well – the storyline of a closeted aspiring male country star.

I’m sharing the good and the bad reviews. Here’s the mention of P2 from last night’s concert in St. Louis Post Dispatch:

“Opening act Phillip Phillips was well received, but his songs and performance style are so much out of the Dave Matthews Band playbook that he scarcely escapes reclassification as a tribute act. He’s a poorer, parallel-universe DMB.”

At least he said he was well received. ;0

In USA Today’s Travel section: “Experience Las Vegas”, they listed the Taylor Hicks show as an “Editor’s Pick” in today’s paper.

That’s nothing new, people were saying something similar when he was on Idol.

Adam Lambert’s new album? Maybe all 80’s covers…..interesting…..

How is that supposed to help establish him as a current and relevant artist?

    Interscope Promotion @INTERSCOPEPROMO

@Phillips performance on Ellen in Jan will be re airing this Thursday #GoneGoneGone

  • Madilo

That’s not a good idea, why doesn’t he come with something new and throw in some covers at least if he wants to do them ?

  • Max

I have no freaking clue…..My only thought is they think they can make money from it. Turn him back into the “Idol”

If he has any other options as far as a label, he might just want to consider jumping ship.

  • LongKissGoodnight

I’m interested in all reviews, thank you for bringing them over. %)

It’s peculiar… P2 keeps getting compared with DMB, and I keep trying to listen to their music in hopes that if they are so similar I will have more music to enjoy, but…

A.) I barely find any similarities besides raspy male voice and love for a complex rhythmical structure over big band arrangements.

B.) majority of DMB music does not click with me.

and C…) I could name many Russian rock bands and singer-songwriters that would probably be called by this reviewer DMB knock off (while of course having nothing to do with DMB, since their musical roots are coming from a completely different soil) because of variety of instruments and arrangements used. IMHO it’s the same phenomenon as all folk bands sound like M&S knock off for a person with a limited knowledge of folk music.

  • Max

I don’t think this is his idea. If it is true it sounds like it is marching orders from RCA/Sony.

  • curly_yenta

    He’s not.

  • elliegrll

At least he said he was well received

What the masses think is more important than what the critics think. The same things were said about Daughtry in comparison to Nickelback, but the buying public didn’t care.

  • Frederick

    I so agree, I cant stand DMB’s music lol. I love Phillip’s :P

  • Frederick

If this is true I think it’s time to leave RCA.

  • Larc

I want good music, whatever time frame it’s from. Old covers of good music are far better to me than new crap. New is apparently a more important concern than quality to some people, but I’m not one of them.

    http://www.examiner.com/review/john-mayer-opens-born-raised-tour-at-2013-summerfest

…….Most fans were on their feet by the end, giving him a standing ovation and suggesting that Phillips continues to gain traction among fans. Performing at sold-out arenas and amphitheaters during John Mayer’s tour will certainly increase Phillips’ fan base.

Just listened to Danielle Bradbery’s new song “The Heart Of Dixie” on Big 99.9 Country radio out of Spokane Washington.

Roughstock gave her a 5 star review, and after hearing it, I totally agree with them. http://www.roughstock.com/reviews/single-review-danielle-bradbery-the-heart-of-dixie

If you didn’t like listening to Danielle on the Voice, you won’t like the new song. She sings the song beautifully, in a traditional country style. I love it, and can’t wait to buy it on the 16th.

  • mchcat

I heard a snippet on Taste of Country – sounds really good

  • elliegrll

It’s pretty much something that would be geared to his AI fans. Those who expect him to get a lot of buzz and media attention in the US by performing Queen songs with the surviving members of that group.

  • dd999

Thanks for posting this news of Danielle’s new single. I listened to a snippet of the song on Taste of Country…not crazy about the review there. Ugh! Roughstock’s review is awesome! I love Danielle’s voice, yet , not hearing the whole song leaves me very eager to hear the rest of the song, as the snippet doesn’t get to the real heart of the song IMO! Have you heard the entire song?

  • thedeviledadvocate

Yes, I heard it on Big 99.9 Country out of Spokane Washington. The snippet doesn’t do the song justice. They asked the listeners if they liked it, loved it, or hated it. Some said it was okay, but others said it was great. I’m one of those who said it was great. I’m sure there will be somewhere on the internet to hear it soon.

I think the guy at Taste Of Country has a crush on Cassadee Pope LOL.

  • Liteasy

He’s not current now, and this will end his journey with RCA with poor sales.

  • thedeviledadvocate

Oops, Windmills just posted it I think.

  • Happyhexer

Count me as another who loves PP but not DMB.
