Interview: Tour Talk with American Idol’s DeAndre Brackensick – It’s that time of year when American Idol’s Top 10 hit the road, free from the pressure of performing for votes, and perform in arenas around the U.S. for the fans that voted for them each week. For 17-year-old San Jose, Calif. native, DeAndre Brackensick, this moment has been about two years in the making. After just barely missing the cut for the Top 24 during season 10, Brackensick proved he was ready to take season 11 by storm with performances like Buddy Holly’s “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore” from the Las Vegas group round and Stevie Wonder’s “Master Blaster” from Top 13 week. – Read more at Seattlepi

Niall from One Directions Calls His Fans a Bad Word – After finishing off their Up All Night tour this week, the boys of One Direction have returned home for some R&R and the opportunity to bask in the love of their fans. A lot has changed since their arrival here in the States in February, but after making chart history and gaining dozens of free bras, are the guys still the same, humble lads we first met on The X Factor? Yes, but with a deeper vocabulary than we previously had realized. Niall Horan greeted fans upon his arrival in Ireland today, addressing them with what he considers to be a term of endearment: “Remember the last time I walked out here?” Niall asked of those gathered at the Dublin airport. “Remember the last time I walked out here and sprained my knee, you shower of c–ts!” Um, no, should they? – Watch the Video at Popdust

I stated her album returned to the BB 200 LAST week. It did.

Only if we look at the current albums, and don’t include the older albums that were sold last week.  Billboard posts the whole top 200 on their website, you can see it here: http://www.billboard.com/charts/billboard-200#/charts/billboard-200 Haley’s album isn’t there.  Taking out the older albums is just like only looking at the pop songs or albums on Itunes.  It doesn’t tell us a lot, or give the whole story, and technically, Billboard’s final top 200 chart includes old and new albums.

I stated the increased sales are “statistically significant” given the past sample size, they are.

I’d say that they aren’t, not only because Itunes doesn’t sell a lot of albums, but at this point we don’t know what the difference is.  Based on past amounts, we can tell what an album in that position would have sold for the whole week, but Haley’s album hasn’t been in that spot for a whole week, and since albums in that position aren’t even selling 2000 copies for the whole week, I think that we can come to the conclusion that for a short bump to truly be significant, it would have to break into the top 50 at least. At the most, the boost will result in a few hundred cds sold, if that.

As for Jennifer having things to crow about, has one of her albums ever landed in the Top 10 on the BB Tastemaker’s chart?

    I don’t know.

    Reminder:

ALSO if you are going to fanwar over album sales, this thread IS NOT THE PLACE TO DO IT. Take it to the numbers thread.

Now it’s all in your head. Remember Jennifer’s sour face when Colton performed on the first live show? Does that mean she hates Colton?

Sounds like someone got their pretend tv boyfriend taken away. LOL The less than a handful of people having an issue are the ones who childishly resent Diana for taking something that was never theirs anyway.

They are business partners, best friends, and they are getting married. The likelihood of seeing or hearing about one without the other is pretty slim. It’s what most people hope for when they think about love and I wish them nothing but the best.

“Haley is a true artist at least that is what she tells us every time she
is interviewed, my question is does that make other people fake artist
copy cat artist not artist at all or what. ”

Not all performing artists are the same. Some chart toppers just sing what they are given. See:http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2012/03/26/120326fa_fact_seabrook

“A relatively small number of producers and top-liners create a
disproportionately large share of contemporary hits, which may explain
why so many of them sound similar.”

“The artists…generally record new material in between shows,
in mobile recording studios and hotel rooms, working with demos that
producers and top-line writers make for them to use as a kind of vocal
    stencil pattern.”

Haley wanted to be more involved and create something different.

    LA Times:

“Listen Up!” is a gamble. Carefully crafted pop hits are traded in for
depth – a rarity for “Idol” and most twentysomethings in the business.
There are no disposable pop beats from of-the-moment
producers…Reinhart sings with a sassy sex appeal that is commercially
accessible, but she pushes at the edges of contemporary pop in a way
    most “Idol” contestants wouldn’t dare.”

I happen to think most musicians are “true artists” — if they aren’t, they aren’t going to last very long in this business. Just because someone doesn’t write his or her own songs doesn’t mean they don’t work just as hard, if not harder, as someone who does. Or that they care any less about what they are doing.

People who try to get into music — or any creative field — just for the money or the fame are quickly labeled as posers, and — in general, never succeed in the first place, or disappear very quickly even if they manage to have some success. It takes a hell of a lot of hard work to become a long-term success in the music business, and if you aren’t dedicated to and love what you are doing, you are not going to want to put in the work  (pretty much the same as any business, really).

Late to the party again.  I think we have someone each season that we feel has been bussed.  That seems to be part of the process, I guess.   There are those who sing off key who get praised (see: Lee, Gokey, James, etc) and others who get slammed.

When you get a record contract from a major label that should be water under the bridge.  Pretty sure that was what Haley was saying when she said it toughens the skin.  We will never know why people voted her to top three. Maybe it was her voice or maybe it was her underdog story arc.

It’s up to her to make what she can of this.  If not the next pop superstar, maybe something else.

But to whoever said this, I don’t see her like Kat McPhee at all, though.  Not that she can’t get into acting.  I just don’t see them as remotely similar.

PS  Ace and Diana continue to be disgustingly cute.  Hope it lasts.
