Idol Headlines for 3/4/08

Darn, darn, darn! Could this doom my favorite, David Hernandez?? With all fingers crossed I was hoping this would go away. Yeah right I know better. I wonder if Fox will let him stay on? I really like him and at least want him to be on the tour.

Yeah, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll disqualify him, either. I do think they would probably like the problem to go away before top twelve, though. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure AI is happy for any media discussion, heh, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all publicity. David being in top twelve would be more problematic for them. And I definitely think they would prefer that he not be in top 10 and then go on tour. Look for David H. and Luke to get bad comments from the judges tonight, regardless of how they really do. (Chickizie, too, if heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s really doing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Celebrationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ )

I wonder if Fox will let him stay on? I really like him and at least want him to be on the tour.

Unless he tried to hide his past from them, why should they disqualify him? Stripping in a club is not illegal. I can’t imagine something like this would get past their background checks.

Personally, I could care less if he was a stripper or not.

Wasn’t there a female contestant on season 1 or 2 that had worked as a stripper? If they let her compete then I think David H. should be able to compete also. Just depends on how much heat Idol gets.

Ooohhh, I love, love, love this show. I bet DeGarmo has been waiting 3 years to say someone/anyone made Simon Cowell look like a pussycat. John Rich totally and completely cracks me up as does Dee Snider. I really would like to see Diana win, but it would be a come from behind win at this point.

I think David H is safe. I think the American public is so past this mattering. Frankly I think it gives him a bit of an edge. No rainbows and puppies here. Damn I would love to see him shake his groove thing! LOL!

I don’t think the general audience of AI knows about David H’s past but it might hurt him in votes depending on who is fans are. We haven’t had anyone openly gay go too far in the competition so whether he is or isn’t may play a part — or not. I don’t care but he’s not one of the ones I’m voting for. I doubt the show would kick him off for it.

It is possible that David H did not tell AI about his past. When I worked as a CPA, one of our firm’s clients owned several topless bars. The dancers were not on the payroll and worked only for tips. They were responsible for reporting their own wages and no 1099s were issued. If David H did not report income from it, it might not show up on a background check.

I don’t care one way or another as I think he is talented, but as a family show, AI might might want him gone one way or another.

After delivering a strong vocal and solid performance last week, I wonder how this “exposure” will affect David’s confidence this week. I can’t imagine he is embara**ed by a profession he’s chosen to do for the last few years. But to have it put to a popular vote could tend to rattle anyone. Whatever song he ends up singing he better give it his all because I think the Top 6 guys will be stronger with his name on the list.
Hey, while sitting in The Chair didn’t Simon tell David he didn’t stand out from the rest? Maybe it will be the boost he needs to be remembered.

Can’t wait to hear what comments the judges will have re David H. That should tell us what AI is thinking (assuming that his performance doesn’t really suck). The lap dance thing seems more incriminating than the stripping. He is one of the best so I hope he stays.

If AI’s background checkers are worth shiz they had to know about this. He’s cannon fodder, so I wouldn’t be shocked if they orchestrated this reveal. Or maybe the media picked up on it from VFTW. David H. isn’t going anywhere unless it looks like he might win. LOL! The whole gay stripper thing will cause a little ratings-boosting controversy, and AI loves that stuff. But, they wouldn’t want a gay stripper winner, so they won’t throw him under the bus unless he becomes a real threat. IMO.

That MSNBC article, for once, makes some sense. David A is peaking might early, and he’s going to have to show some type of growth if he’s gonna stay the frontrunner. I think there are a few of the remaining contestants that could actually overtake if they hit their stride.

I don’t really see how they can send him packing just for being a bartender — there certainly would be a benefit to a female contestant who could say she worked at Hooters or the Playboy Club as a bunny.

Lap dancing? Actually that is a more regulated thing than selling porn on a website. If it was in a place that sold alcohol, AND it was gay, the local police can probably guarantee you that there was no prostitution taking place.

oops, right, pardon me for reading without coffee. So he was a dancer. In the nude. But I guess I was maintaining that in many cases, bartenders and waitresses, male and female, are the next thing to a stripper in a lot of places in middle America. Hope he doesn’t suffer being made a scapegoat. What am I saying? Of course he will. The guilt and hypocrisy of America always falls on somebody convenient.

I wonder if Luke and Chikeze (my picks to go this week)secretly wish they had some skeleton’s in their closets to generate some interest in them? I think David H. will be given a pass through to the Top 12 because of this buzz.

I agree with PJ: how is it Producers did not know? And I agree w/ the MSNBC article, David A. is coming off as too much “aw shucks” and he won’t win with that attitude.

I guess I’m in the minority because I like humbleness in people as long as it is real. I honestly feel that it is with him as well as Melinda last year. I do agree that it can get boring but I hope that he doesn’t try to act cute/cocky for the sake of trying to have more personality because to me that is much worse when it isn’t natural.

Back to Amrican Idol the only probelm with David A IMO is the bar is set high for him right now. If he gives a preformance that not up to “his” standard, even if a good one, it would be precieved as not. David A another thing if his songs pretty much the same way. This what is wrong with being an early favorite they set the bar to high up and elevate the prefromer which for some is hard to keep up with no mater how good.

I like David H but am now wondering if I’ll be able to watch him without the words “scantilly clad stripper who gave lap dances to male customers” clouding my judgement… i kinda wish i hadn’t read that.

I think David A is going to go the way of Melinda. He’s been pimped hard as the one to beat with the incredible voice. He’ll be out in 3rd place, maybe 4th. Maybe I am wrong here, but it seems like he’s being set up to be ‘safe’ all the time……. gotta vote. Maybe the tweeners will keep him safe, Melinda didn’t have that….

Yeah, if David H performs well tonight, I predict he sails through to top 12.

I think the TPTB see his idol sales on itunes and his no. 1 ranking on most viewed on youtube in just a few weeks so perhaps they like their choice of “chosen one”.

Now who will be against my “son” in the final is the mystery.

I think TPTB knew about David H. and always fully intended for him to be cannon fodder. I think he’ll go out the way of Antonella. And IF (that’s a big if) he makes it to Top 12, he won’t make the tour.

He’s not Garett Haley-level fodder, but I don’t think he’s ever been a producer favorite. He wasn’t pimped much, he pulled himself out of fodder hell by his own bootstraps with good performances.

But as far as the producers are concerned, He’s expendable,imo.

To be honest, he’s not one of my favorites. I’d much rather Danny, David C or Jason advance to the Top 12. However, having David A. lose his seat over this stripper stuff would really suck.

Melinda made really bad song choices once in a while– As long As He Needs Me on the British invasion week was lame when she could have done something way more pop. (I still wish she would have done House of the Rising Sun, which she would have knocked out of the park and at the same time not sounded like an old lady. Not that I didn’t like the ballad– it just cost her.)

David A. is also more comfortable on stage than Melinda. And did I mention that he was only 16? And did I mention that the last AI winner was only 17? Two points determine a line.

I don’t judge my favorites by demographics. Being black isn’t reason enough for someone to deserve a spot in the Top 12.

Now thinking about it, I really cannot remember Melinda singing any “current” or “pop” songs. Maybe she couldn’t connect to the younger fans for that. I thinnk David A is a better performer than Melinda.

Since TPTB knew all along about David H., you have to wonder about the timing this release. It all seems to add up now: his audition wasn’t shown, Simon expressed his dislike of David during the Green Mile, and now this Antonella-esque news. I doubt he will be officially disqualified for this, but the odds of going far are stacking up against him right now. Perhaps his performance last week scared the producers a little. Looks like another fodder.

I second whoever said we should get rid of four girls this week. I have a soft spot for almost all the guys, and am enthusiastic about virtually none of the girls (with the possible exception of Brooke). Syesha, Kady, Kristy, and Amanda are all dispensable at this point, IMO.

Vote For The Worst broke the story a while back, and has been working on digging up evidence ever since. The other news outlets picked it up from there, they even credited VFTW with breaking the story. I doubt TPTB had anything to do with the timing.

Just to respond to some of the discussion going on here…there are actually a number of minorities in the guys side this year:
Chikezie, David A, David H, Jason C (is this correct?), and Danny.
That’s five of the ten!

They did show David H’s audition, plus his “Love the One You’re With” (interesting song choice in view of this disclosure -LOL).

David H. can SANG, Antonella… not so much. He seems to have a pretty good sense of himself when he chooses songs. If he gets stuck with “Celebration” I will suspect shenanigans.

So since we have little mini scandals, where do you draw the line from supporting them as artists and being uncomfortable with them as a person? I ask because I read some things that I wish I hadn’t and I’m trying to sort how I feel about it.

i really hope this doesn’t hurt David H. I really wanted to see him on tour. I’m so pissed off at the clubowner. I worked for the corp ofc of a strip club (we ran 5 of them) and we would NEVER tell ANYONE who worked there. I only did so with the signed permission from the dancer. It’s for the dancer’s safety and really it’s nobody’s business but their own.

I love the 3 Davids in this order: 1. David A., 2. David H., and 3 David C.

As for David H., I hope that his “day job” (or night job, whichever the case may be) doesn’t destroy his credibility. I think he has real promise in the vocals department; now he needs to show us that he can “shake that bootie.” His “gayness” is a moot point.

David A. has a huge fanbase so I think he has more than an even chance to win. Of course, if he is good enough, he doesn’t have to win to come out the “big” winner.

So I was just watching the game show “Shopper’s Paradise” and the category in the final was American Idol winners and the host thought Jordin Sparks was a he…… huh.

This is going to be one fascinating evening. I must say that I don’t think it will hurt his chances if he continue to perform well. If he stinks up the place, that is another thing entirely. I like the Davids too. And I love my Dannyboy. He is FIERCE! LOL. I want a competition not a coronation, so I want all of the strong to survive to the top twelve. So that means Luke and Chikiboy must go. I hope that America’s inherent homophobia won’t mess with Danny and David’s chances.

The Danny Video, while vulgar is not a big deal, The Ramilie pictures are harmless and just girls being funny, nothing obscene or lude, the Amanda Overmyer nude pictures if ever released May Be a Big Deal.

Wow, Michael and David C made horrible choices. Weren’t there any better rock songs on the approved list. David A and Danny seem to have decent taste. The rest just seem awful. ( I don’t know Jason’s song)

Based on the list, I say def Luke and either David C. or Chikeze leave.

Oh, I didn’t notice they had the actual songs (I hate to touch anything at TMZ…just going there fills me with the desire to wash my hands):

David A – Another Day In Paradise – What is this dude got to sing every socially concious song ever written? Gah. I hate this song. Can’t turn the radio station fast enough. This was Phil’s attempt to address the critics who complained that he wasn’t a serious musician. He tried too hard.

Luke – Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go – Gah! Shoot me now. I LOVE this song. Woo! Go Luke. (I’m going to hide in shame now).

Jason – Hallelujah – Gah! What are you thinking Jason? This is perhaps the most overplayed song in the TV soundtrack cannon. Instead of the flames of pimpage, are they going to have people dying/mourning in the background? Still, it’s a great song (see! I’m not completely shallow)

David H – Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s All Coming Back To Me Now – LOL. I will have visions of Kat running away from Meatloaf all night. I wonder if the judges will tell him that he should never try to sing Celine?

Michael – Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t You Forget About Me – Breakfast Club…I will be distracted by the thought of dandruff being used as snow.

Danny – Tainted Love – excellent choice as we’ve previously noted.

David C – Hello (Lionel Ritchie) – interesting change of pace. I’m not seeing it.

Chikezie – All The Woman/Man That I Need – LOL. Daring given how we know that Simon doesn’t like peope changing genders in songs. And his taking on another forbidden diva. And he’s having pitch/arrangement issues. This could be interesting.

Is this the order? Seems right with David A going first, but Luke went early and David C went second last last week. That seems unfair. What’s fair about Idol?

HOORAY!!!! No JOURNEY! No hearing Randy boast about the greatness of Journey! YIPPEE!

Although I was slightly hoping Luke would do father figure, dangit.

I can’t even express to you my excitement of Danny doing Tainted Love. I don’t love Danny, but if he pulls Tainted Love off flawlessly I’ll be his fan forever. Tainted Love probably ranks in my top 3 favorite 80′s song, sad yes, but true.
