Alabama A&M band, pop star Kelly Clarkson part of Mardi Gras parade in New Orleans – HUNTSVILLE, Alabama — So what do the Alabama A&M University marching band and pop star Kelly Clarkson have in common? Both will be in New Orleans on Saturday to take part in the Krewe of Endymion parade at Mardi Gras. For the third year in a row, the Alabama A&M “Marching Maroon and White” band will be leading the Krewe of Endymion parade — which is the largest of about 80 Mardi Gras parades. – Read more at

Scott MacIntyre Moving to Nashville – I have some exciting news to announce. My wife and I are making the move to Nashville, TN. As you may know, Nashville is referred to as “Music City” for a reason: it is home to many of today’s top musicians, songwriters, producers, and recording artists. Since American Idol, I’ve enjoyed working with many talented people from the area, and I am looking forward to the creativity and opportunities for networking that this move will encourage. – Read more at ScottMacIntyre

Phillip Phillips hopes to move beyond ‘Idol,’ ‘Home‘ – There have been several seasons where a better title for “American Idol” would have been “Fleeting Idol” – particularly in recent years, where sensitive, good-looking guys such as Kris Allen and Lee DeWyze were announced the winners, only to see their popularity peter out after their seasons ended. Phillip Phillips seemed like another affable, attractive “Idol” star with decent talent but uncertain star potential. It still is, a fact the season 11 “Idol” champion, opening for matchbox twenty at a sold-out Riverside Theater Saturday, is all too aware of. “Yeah, I’m definitely concerned about the future,” Phillips said in a phone interview. “I don’t want to be known for just one song.” – Read more at JS Online

Kelly Clarkson: Award Shows Are ‘Painful, Not Fun’ – Kelly Clarkson has won two Grammys, and she’s up for three more this year: Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for “Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You)” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Stronger. She’ll perform at this Sunday night’s Grammy telecast but she doesn’t really like to go to award shows featuring big pop stars, even though she’s one herself. “No one talks to each other,” Clarkson said of most big music award shows. “Everyone shuts their doors. Everyone’s too cool for school. Not everyone but for the most part. And you have to sometimes drag me to those events, just ’cause…it’s so painful. It’s just not fun.” – Read more at ABC News

‘American Idol’ Vet Didi Benami on the Difficulties of Hollywood Week – Having gone through Hollywood Week myself, I can say that it was the most intense experience ever, even more so than American Idol itself. Everybody loses their voice, you’re singing all the time, it’s where you prove yourself. It’s insane, and it’s just the beginning. This year, they separated the guys and the girls for separate weeks in Hollywood. But the real twist is that the producers assigned people to groups rather than having them pick their own. I have no idea why they did that — I wonder how they ended up grouping everyone together. It seemed like it was pretty fair, and it actually was more of an advantage to the singers. It’s really difficult when you’re trying to choose somebody so fast and you don’t know anybody there. You just form a group and sometimes there are no similarities whatsoever. – Read more at

Kelly Clarkson: I’m ‘Going to Be the Opposite’ of a Bridezilla – Kelly Clarkson doesn’t sweat the small stuff, even when it comes to prepping for one of the biggest days of her life. Although the engaged superstar, 30, tells PEOPLE her upcoming wedding with Brandon Blackstock, 36, has been “a lot to plan,” she’s “not going to be a bridezilla.” – Watch the Video at

‘Idol’ finalist Jason Castro tours with Winter Jam – “My dad, five uncles, and my grandfather played guitar,” he says, “and some of my oldest memories are of them pulling out their guitars.” He didn’t start playing until college, when he taught himself how to play. Music, however, wasn’t always an option. “I started off in the college of engineering,” he says, “but in my first year the music was distracting, and my grades started to suffer.” He calls quitting his college band, which he describes as “a very heavy rock band,” the hardest decision of his life. In his second year, he tried his hand at architecture, but that only lasted a
semester. “I was being a poor steward of what God had given me,” he says, knowing that music was his calling. – read more at Group State

Survivor premiere’s last 30 minutes replaced by Big Bang Theory repeat – The first episode of Survivor Caramoan: Fans vs. Favorites will no longer be two hours, but has been cut back to 90 minutes. CBS will now follow it with a repeat of The Big Bang Theory from last November. That episode is “The Habitation Configuration,” which guest starred Wil Wheaton and LeVar Burton. A press release announcing the change didn’t specify the reason, nor even mention that it was a change, instead referring to Survivor’s debut as “a special 90-minute premiere.” A January 11 press release referred to “a special two-hour premiere.” – Read more at Reality Blurred

Adam Levine Debuts “Anti-Cologne” Line of Fragrances: “I Want to Compete With Dior” – Ah, the sweet smell of success! Adam Levine is hoping to nose his way into the fragrance market with a new eponymous line of scents for both men and women. On Wednesday, Feb. 6, the Voice coach debuted his brand at a private party in West Hollywood (complete with Veuve Clicquot champagne!), where he talked to Us Weekly about why his products are different from the perfumes other stars endorse. “I thought it would be nice to have something real and long-lasting and something that can compete with any fragrance, let alone celebrity fragrances,” he told Us at the bash. “I’m not a fan of celebrity fragrances.” – Read more at US Magazine

Scotty is in AZ tonight and promises new music, old music and new covers.  Last night he sang a song he wrote as well as a new Garth Brooks cover

  • Kesia Monteith

Wow MJ, up and early! This is the earliest i’ve seen the headlines thread in awhile. Yep, we are now in the thick of Idol season. haha!

  • Lexie O’Neill

Last night, he was the middle guy for Montgomery Gentry–a great, mixed audience–sold out crowd.  Really, really hope some videos surface soon.

Tonight, Scotty is the headliner at Devilpalooza at Arizona State University–surely with that big of a crowd, there will be some vids!!

  • Kesia Monteith

By the way, Kelly looks so pretty in that People mag photoshoot.

  • justmefornow

For those James fans needing another Durbin fix, a front row video from The House of Blues with Steel Panther on Monday night has surfaced.
It shows the band introducing James, nice talking him up, lots of support. Crazy band banter, James on the floor (as usual, lol), lots of fun.

This band is a total hoot!

  • TheOther

Phillip’s future is with his mentor and boss, Jimmy Iovine, AAA radio, and continuing to build a fan base via his very popular college tour and MB20 shows.  A career trajectory within AI bubble?  Let’s just say that’s the quickest way to a “parting of the ways” future.

  • girlygirltoo

Steel Panther seems like one of those bands that is famous for its live performances. I constantly see people tweet about going to their shows when they are here in L.A. They sound like a lot of fun. Have they ever put out albums?

  • justmefornow

According to this it looks like three, the last in 2011.

I like that they don’t take themselves so seriously, like they’re in on the joke too, lol.

  • elliegrll

To successfully break out of the bubble, and build a fan base that is interested in his music, Phillip will need a good A&R person and good management, but he’ll also have to do his part.  So far, I think he’s handling things well.  He seems to say the right things when a camera or mic is on him.

  • Lucie Laniel

So anxious to hear “See You Tonight” the song he wrote. And since he said that tonight he will sing more new covers and songs from his upcoming album, people should get ready ahead of time for videos. I sure would.

And I can totally see Scotty singing Garth Brooks’ cover Papa loved Mama. Love that he is venturing in more mature songs.

  • irockhard

They have older stuff too under their previous band name – Metal School – that they went by back in the 80s. I didn’t know they go back that far. Their music’s not for everyone as it’s very aggressive and vulgar but their shows are super fun.

  • Chrissie H

” …people should get ready ahead of time for videos…”

I believe his whole fan base is ready waiting –  lol.  I´m constantly checking my cell phone. I´ve listend to somebody´s cover of Garth´ “papa loved mama”. With that title I had expected something sugary old country- but my happy surprise! I liked that little up beat song / ballad thing. Can´t wait to hear Scotty sing this cover and most of all his own song (s). Gonna be great, I know

  • justmefornow

Any band that also called themselves “Danger Kitty”, lol , is going to be super fun.

  • Jenny Williams

Emblem 3 just sold out 3 shows in less than 1 minute. I don’t know how big the sizes of the venues are but 1 minute after I clicked on each link, all of them were sold out.

  • Danny Latham

Methinks MJ is getting ahead of the storm as well. East Coasters do be safe from the blizzard(I know, off subject, but we need y’all around).

I do hope Crystal can get some AAA promo for Dead Weight. Seems this label is more serious about promoting Mama than Jive ever did.

..and Scotty is going to kick some major butt tonight!! Can’t wait for some great new music.

  • girlygirltoo

The venues are all fairly small. I think the largest of the 3 has a capacity of about 800.

Good for them for selling the shows out.

  • girlygirltoo

cute way of breaking down the Grammy nominees for Record of the Year

  • IrisandLilies

I’ve been reading the reviews of the MatchBox Twenty concerts so far, and most, if not all, of the reviewers did not know about Phillip prior to the concert.  However, they enjoyed his mini concert, and some even liked his performance so much that they were going to purchase his album.

  • Lucie Laniel

Chrissie –  I actually meant people should get ready ahead of time to record videos, if they are attending the show tonight.

  • mjsbigblog

Actually…I put the post up before I went to bed for a few hours… :)

  • Chrissie H

oh – I see. Got it wrong- sorry – and Yes, hoping many will be recording:)

  • MellyPer1692

That’s not bad for Emblem 3! There are idol winners who don’t come close to filling up even 300 seat venues, so good for them!

  • tripp_ncwy

Spoiler alert for the Grammys for one of Kelly’s songs.  Looks like she’s going to be having a full circle moment come Sunday night.

    Geoff Boucher ?@geoffboucher
Kelly Clarkson after a stirring “Natural Woman” performance at #GRAMMYs rehearsals: “They don’t make songs like that anymore.”

  • girlygirltoo

I don’t know of any Idol winners who didn’t sell out venues when they first came off the show. They might not do so now, a few years later, but in the first few months after they came off their win, they all did. So Emblem3 isn’t doing anything new, here.

Although like I said, good for them. They do seem to have a decent sized fanbase.

  • girlygirltoo

Good to see so many ex-Idols making the rounds of Grammy press. Wonder if any of them will go to the actual show on Sunday

  • girlygirltoo

#@krisallen nice bumping into you!! Hit me up in Portland:)

  • girlygirltoo

is this going to be part of a tribute to Aretha Franklin or something? (or maybe to Carole King, who wrote it)

  • heartly

She’s doing a Patti Page (Tennessee Waltz) and Carole King (Natural Woman) tribute.
