‘American Idol’ Fantasia Barrino cancels Orbit Room concert in wake of shooting at venue – A concert featuring former “American Idol” winner Fantasia Barrino scheduled for Feb. 14 at The Orbit Room, has been canceled. Promoters cited safety issues connected with a Jan. 1 shooting incident at the club located on Lake Eastbrook Blvd. SE as a factor in the cancellation. “The promoter got a call (from the singer’s representatives) asking about news of a shooting at the venue,” said Monica Sparks, director of The Urban Sparks who has been doing publicity for the concert. – Read more at Mlive

Kenya through Kris’ eyes – Since I’ve gotten back from World Vision’s 2012 True Spirit of Christmas Tour, I’m frequently asked: “Didn’t you go to Kenya? How was that?” I’m never one to answer really fast, because I always want to give a real answer. I could just say, “It was great!” — and the conversation would end there, but that would defeat the purpose of why I went. I went so I could tell people about what’s going on in Kenya and what World Vision is doing to help out. – Read more at World Vision.org

Adam Lambert and His Totally Fierce Band

Adam Lambert tweeted, “My band SLAYS. Get ready 2013.” Adam is ready to embark on a series of concert dates in Asia.

Carrie Underwood Tweets Support for Husband Mike Fisher After NHL Lockout Ends – Most hockey fans are thrilled the 113-day NHL lockout is over. Carrie Underwood? Not so much. Although Underwood – who has been married to professional hockey player Mike Fisher since 2010 – was quick to celebrate her husband’s return to the ice, she couldn’t help but joke about it. “Well, folks, hockey is back!” she Tweeted on Sunday. “I just lost my purse holder but gained cheering on my hot husband as he kicks butt! #GoPreds.” – Read more at People.com

Lawsuit Over Steven Tyler’s ‘American Idol’ Deal Now Involves Motley Crue (Exclusive) – After filing the lawsuit, Kovac Media Group, run by Allen Kovac, added new claims, asserting that in retaliation for the lawsuit, LaPolt has been “conspiring” to “set up a competing management company” to steal away a “world-famous rock band” that Kovac has repped for 15 years. That band is Motley Crue, and on Monday, its members made its objections to Kovac’s claims very loud and clear. Declarations by Crue guitarist Mick Mars and drummer Tommy Lee were filed along with new court papers by LaPolt that urge a Los Angeles Superior Court judge to reject the lawsuit in accordance with California’s anti-SLAPP statute. – Read more at The Hollywood Reporter

Nashville Sneak Peek: Hayden Panettiere’s Juliette Is Getting Married! But How Does her Mother React? – “I have some good news. I’m getting married!” Yes, Nashville is returning with a bridal bang this Wednesday as Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) is engaged to her NFL boyfriend of a hot minute, Sean (Tilky Jones). And while Juliette seems thrilled to be tying the knot, we’re not so sure her troubled mother Jolene (Sylvia Jeffries) will be so delighted by the news. – See the Video at E News

The Voice: Adam Levine and Blake Shelton Dish on Keeping Bromance Alive With “Hot” Usher Around! – Breaking news: Hollywood’s hottest relationship is in trouble! It’s true, y’all. The Voice’s Blake Shelton and Adam Levine’s bromance is on the rocks and a third party is involved: new coach Usher, who is joining the NBC reality hit for its fourth season, along with Shakira. We caught up with Adam, Blake and host Carson Daly at the 2013 TCA Winter press tour to chat about the new coaches and how the Maroon 5 lead singer and the country crooner plan to keep their bromance alive with the “hot” new guy around… – Read more at E Online

Britney’s Next Move After The X Factor? Spears Wants Recurring Role On TV Sitcom – Even though Britney Spears won’t be asked back to be a judge on Simon Cowell’s The X Factor, the pop princess’ management team is exploring potential television sitcom roles for her, RadarOnline.com is exclusively reporting. “Britney’s manager, Larry Rudolph, is reading television scripts that the singer could accept. Britney’s dad, Jamie feels that having his daughter on a sitcom would be a good fit for her. Britney needs to be kept busy, and a structured environment such as a television sitcom would be a natural fit for her,” a source close to the situation tells RadarOnline.com exclusively. “She actually has very natural comedic talents and is very funny, in an airhead sort of way,” the source added. – Read more at RadarOnline

Jeanine Mason dances her way into our hearts again on ‘Bunheads’ — EXCLUSIVE – Last night, Amy Sherman-Palladino’s dramedy returned for a second run of episodes on ABC Family. (Technically, this is the second half of the show’s first season.) And on Jan. 14, Jeanine Mason officially joins the cast as Cozette, the new girl in Paradise. Like her Les Mis namesake, Mason’s character is practically perfect in every way — she speaks four languages, she’s immediately popular, and most importantly, she really knows her way around a dance studio. Something tells us snooty Sasha might not be Cozette’s biggest fan. – See the Video at Entertainment Weekly

The new season of Pretty Little Liars premiers tonite. They are re-airing all of last season’s episodes today.  The episode with Adam “This Is A Dark Ride” airs at 7:00 PM on ABC Family channel.

  • Axxxel

Adam Lambert and the band look good together visually, even though I think sometimes that the female guitarist looks even more fashionable than Adam…

Hope Britney just gets a guest role on a sitcom… So she is not under too much pressure. Something like Adam did in Pretty Little Liars, so a role in which she can show off her singing as well. Or at least play her music in the background.

He talks briefly about the accident, the pregnancy and tour.

  • girlygirltoo

Today is the first day of Kris Allen’s #OutAlive tour, playing in Killington, VT. Should be a fun tour — I’m looking forward to seeing how the band compensates for Kris’ wrist and what the new guitarist can do.

  • Miz

Thanks for the link to the Kris Allen Ridgefield interview. I saw people talking about it on twitter. I’m happy to finally hear more details about the accident. Also happy to hear that he’ll be playing some one handed instruments. I can’t imagine Kris not making music along with singing.

Really nice blog post from him on World Vision site, too. He has a way of painting pictures with words.

On the Set: American Idol’s New Tune-Up

TV Guide Magazine: Keith, you left a judging gig on Australia’s The Voice to join Idol. Why is Idol the better fit?

Urban:The fact that it’s given birth to legitimate artists, not just people that were popular that season and then faded away. In a lot of cases, those who didn’t win — the Daughtrys, the Adam Lamberts — have gone on to sell records and have real careers. There was the credibility factor I really loved.

I think a sitcom would be a better fit for Britney. She was very funny when she hosted SNL. I think she would do excellent in a supporting role on a comedy.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

    They offered me more money.

  • Nadine_Bitch

But he’s still the Cheap budget option among the panel.

I can’t judge Keith until I see him on Idol… But couldn’t hurt that he’s an eye candy:)

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

I have no doubt he’s the “cheap judge”. But if he didn’t get an offer from Idol, he’d still be singing the praises of “The Voice Australia”.

  • Nadine_Bitch

No doubt about that but anyone would choose AI over The Voice Australia. And judging from one show to another isn’t so unheard of. Nicole Z & Paula have done that. And he’s right, AI has the credibility to produced Stars. So if you would want to be on this kind of show why not pick the best one;)

  • justmefornow

The only thing I got out of that convoluted story about the lawsuit over Steven Tyler’s Idol negotiations, is that Dina LaPolt, Tyler’s and Durbin’s lawyer is now Motley Crew’s lawyer too and wants to start a new management team. It would be great if that happens, maybe she could get James out of 19′s clutches and manage him as well.
She must be one kiss ass lawyer, go Dina!

  • tripp_ncwy
  • Trina

Granted I stopped being a James fan a while ago so I stopped keeping track of every move he makes, but is 19 really so bad that he should fight to get away from them? Theres worse out there. Wasnt it said last night he’s getting an AI performance spot? If he gets away from 19 why should they still give him that? Or do fans just want him to break away from AI altogether? I cant see him getting better promo than that for a sophomore album that I wouldnt expect high sales from in the first place.

  • irockhard

As one of the fans in favour of James parting ways with 19M, my reasons are as follows:

    1. 19 usually become almost usless during the 2nd era and tend to concentrate mostly on their latest signees.
    2. James being a rock artist will be better served by a management firm that specializes in his genre, he’s already with a new bookings agency that specializes with hard rock & metal acts.
    3. Almost every Idol that gets a lot of promo are with other management firms.
    4. If getting James a performance slot on AI is the best they can do then quite frankly I’m not impressed as they lack imagination. 19 made a total mess of Haley, they did eff all to promote James the week his album was released and got him more opportunities to talk about Tourettes and Asbergers than to promote his music. Luckily James is on a 360 deal so Wind-up can jump in if they have to but they’re not gonna wanna put up with incompetancy forever, I’m sure they’ll welcome the opportunity to get James out of 19′s clutches.

  • irockhard

Boy now THAT would be great! Fingers crossed! She recently tweeted James Michael that she likes the new songs he worked on with James, so I can see her totally supporting James.

ETA: Dina is a pitbull, good luck to anyone that tries to take her on.

  • lovetheusa1776

That full Moscow concert is riveting – such incredibly great music – May and Taylor are brilliant, and Lambert adds youth and beauty with his stunning vocals.  Fortunate those who were there.  Many thanks for the link.

  • bridgette12

Thanks for the link, I’m downloading it right now. I’m still amazed just how great of a job Adam did. His voice was perfect for those songs. Still hoping some where down that line, Queen and Adam will collaborate again on a bigger tour.

Bad news for Kristy Lee Cook.

    Kristy Lee Cook?@kristyleecook:disqus
FANS- please pray for my voice found out I have vocal nodules and I am on vocal rest for 6wks. Pray they go away and I won’t need surgery

  • Miz

Katy must have been terrified in that crash, especially since Kris was passed out/unconscious.

July baby! I was so wrong in my guess of when it would be due.

  • Miz

I think it would be great for Britney to get a sitcom. She was fantastic on How I Met Your Mother. Give her good writers and direction and she can shine.

  • Xentusk

Dina also represents Haley (referred to Haley by Steven Tyler)…I wonder if her wanting to start a new management team might affect Haley too?

I think Haley is grateful and likes her reps with 19, but it would be nice to see her being handled by someone who is more aggressive for her client as Dina appears to be, instead of the more passive approach that we, Haley’s fans, have seen from 19.

    irockhard

If getting James a performance slot on AI is the best they can do then quite frankly I’m not impressed as they lack imagination. 19 made a total mess of Haley, they did eff all to promote James the week his album was released and got him more opportunities to talk about Tourettes and Asbergers than to promote his music

I was on CNN’s site and happened on this article about James.

‘American Idol’ favorite overcomes Tourette’s, Asperger’s

    http://www.cnn.com/2013/01/07/health/human-factor-james-durbin/index.html?hpt=he_c2

I don’t know if it’s new or not, it’s dateline is today, but to your point, this article was listed under “Health” section and not the “Entertainment” section.  Any exposure is good exposure, especially when it’s about succeeding and overcoming challenges, but I’m sure James will be happier when the future articles are about his music and career rather than his Aspergers.

  • DaisyMagnolia

The band member standing next to Adam is good looking.

What!  No discussion on what it means that David Cook was writing with Nathan Chapman?  He really is off everyone’s radar, isn’t he?

UPDATE: The banjo has been nixed from this song.
Emphatically. (No banjo was harmed in the making of this tweet)pic.twitter.com/FPnszXfP

  • bridgette12

His name is Brian, keyboardist and music director for the band. I agree he is really good looking and also very talented.

  • justmefornow

I agree Haley needs to get away from 19 also. There is no justification why her management didn’t get her on some kind of tour, even a small one to at least let her gel with her band, soon after her album was released. She can only do better with ANY different management, IMO.
    Good luck to her.

  • hellomusicgirl

Sorry I had no idea who Nathan Chapman was so the tweet didn’t mean much to me. Just looked him up though. Producer for Taylor Swift’s albums, huh? From what I saw he’s worked pretty much exclusively in the country genre. And according to Wikipedia he also plays the mandolin. lulz. Thanks for that random fact, Wiki.

I’ll be interested to hear what kind of music he and David come up with.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ACMLXLYSSX73RNYQOUZWSO2I4U Enough already!

Well Idol is coming on like the Titanic so hope it stays afloat and some of the business of the show (the contestants trying to win) actually gets some press. I think Keith would be my reason for checking in and the caliber of the singers.  MC and NM can make all the noise they want at each other, but I don’t think it will be useful in the long run…I do believe that NM is going to steal the thunder…which leads to the only reason Randy still on the show–MC.  One big happy family!

  • wordnerdarchie

I was busy all day, but thought our country expert, windmills, would have been all over this.  I had to laugh about that banjo mention and then the second tweet… DC is really good at stirring up his fans. ;)

Also slated to appear on The Ellen Show on 1/16 is Jennifer Lopez.  Speculation as to whether Phillip will be presented with his Gold CD by JLo.  Or will they wait for the live shows for Jimmy Iovine.

I live in NC and I heard an advertisement on the radio today for an upcoming Kris Allen concert. It seems once he left 19m gigs have been springing up everywhere. It’s funny how that works.  What Haley’s 19 manager seems to be an expert at is planning for her own vacations and playing fantasy football. She did get her the Vegas and Allen Stone gigs however so there’s that.

I suggest Mr. Kovacs  drop his lawsuit against Lapolt Law before he doesn’t have a pot to boil water in.

  • girlygirltoo

glad to hear that Kris’ show is getting promo. Do you remember which one? He has 2 shows in NC (I think)

Kris is about to hit the stage in Killington. According to the set list that was tweeted out, it looks like he is doing “Killing Me Softly” for the fan song request :)

He is indeed, wordnerdarchie. The timeline was amusing with smart @ss ”Deliverance” jokes and banjo references and not much about the “illustrious” collaborator, and then the instrument sitting sadly in the trash can.

But Nathan Chapman has solid gold credentials, Grammy awards, etc…and I’m curious – the “illustrious” collaborator and the Indie musician – this could be interesting.

They can dance to “Freebird”? :/  LOL

What a bummer, sounded like the crowd was fairly raucous from that clip, but Kris soldiered onwards and sounded pretty good on that song..  Thx for the post

Really love the Fugees cover of that song as well as the Roberta Flack version.  What a shame about Lauryn Hill, she had such a wonderful, beautiful voice.

It’s official. Kelly is going to be performing at Obama’s inauguration along with Beyonce and James Taylor:

    http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/people/2013/01/08/beyonce-james-taylor-kelly-clarkson-to-sing-for-obama-inauguration/1818221/

Beyonce, James Taylor, Kelly Clarkson to sing for Obama

Those three will be the big names at the inauguration (besides President Obama).

Taylor, the Sweet Baby James icon of ’70s folk-rock, will sing America the Beautiful. Beyoncé, James Taylor and Kelly Clarkson will perform the patriotic songs at the second inauguration of President Obama on Jan. 21, the inauguration committee will announce today.

Beyoncé, who’s also starring at the Super Bowl halftime show next month, will sing the national anthem, always a tough tune to pull off well.

And Clarkson, the first winner of American Idol (2002), will sing My Country, ‘Tis of Thee, the song with different lyrics but the same tune as the British national anthem. At the first Obama inaugural ceremony in 2009, soul diva Aretha Franklin sang it while wearing a memorable hat.

“….19M haven’t made his music the priority with promo”

Not being specific to just James in 19M representation but what is their advantage to continuing w people they aren’t promoting well? (as suggesting little or no promo for a 2nd album??)  Kind of seems like a lose/lose situation.  You say they quickly make room for new Finds we’ll call them, but what then w/b their agenda in making it difficult to let go of others?  Some $$ obviously still possible for them to make but really quite counteractive imo.

  • wordnerdarchie

In that Kris clip, it sounds like the usual small club crowd.  They’re having a good time & don’t seem in the least disrespectful to me.  I thought they seemed into him.  The club/bar venue scene is a lot different vibe than the larger theatre venue crowd.

Kris has the biggest forearm cast the radio crew has ever seen.

Kris swerved to miss the driver who hit them but couldn’t get out of the way.  Most of the impact was on his side.

Once they found out the baby was fine, they decided to just tell everyone.

Katy is 12 weeks along and they don’t know the gender of the baby.  He will probably tell when the find out.

Haha, I wasn’t around for this yesterday! Fun that David Cook was writing with Nathan Chapman though. I don’t know if I really see Cook writing a song that needs banjo anyway but I guess you never quite know where writing adventures will take a person! Good hookup for sure. One person I think it’d be cool to see him write with is Lori McKenna. She’s got more of an alternative/folk vibe in some of her music, her music runs dark, and I think they might complement each other really well. She’s also one of my favorite lyricists around.

Thanks for your thoughts, I recognize now, when DC moved to Nshville my mind went directly to “windmills”, like hopefully there might be some DC crumbs from different local sources  that you might share here with us, but there has been almost nothing to share so far, from what I know.
“DC and a banjo” a strange collaboration for me but I like the idea, pretty intriguing, maybe he’s seen the success of the folck style today and he goes M&S also, lol.

“DC and a banjo” a strange collaboration for me but I like the idea, pretty intriguing, maybe he’s seen the success of the folck style today and he goes M&S also, lol.

Or he and Chapman were writing a song for one of Chapman’s other associated artists and this has nothing to do with Cook’s own artistic direction.

Every songwriting session that Cook or his associates tweet about from his arrival in Nashville forward carries that caveat. He’s trying to place songs as well as write his own material, and it’s going to take a lot more information than he tends to give to parse out which is which.

So I’m just going to wait for tracklistings.

James, Lauren and Haley are all represented by Dina LaPolt’s firm LaPolt law. That’s all I know about who is who’s legal rep.

    Awesome!

    For justmefornow:
Hope you can bring over the late posting of that link.  That’s hilarious AND awesome–link s/b in the today’s headline stories here.  Kind of fun news for S10

I thought that S10 slot game was a total hoot!….

“What’s amusing about the slot is the monetary value associated with each character. Ryan Seacrest is wild, so he’s always a welcome sight…..”

And I liked the demo video linked there still pimping Pia. lol

Thanks for the answer…I could have sworn that I’d read that they were all with Passman.  So, instead, Scotty’s the only one we know of with him?  Interesting if the other three went separate…I wonder if those three were set up with LaPolt and Scotty went his own way?  Or if Idol recommends a list…

James said he chose LaPolt Law as per Steven Tyler’s recommendation, Dina is his lawyer.

IS ANYONE GOING TO A THEATER TONIGHT TO WATCH THE AMERICAN IDOL PREMIERE AND INTERVIEW WITH THE JUDGES?  I hope I’ll be able to get in!
