‘American Idol’ Contestant Sikh Org. Thrilled Over THE TURBANATOR! – It was judgement day for a singer dubbed “The Turbanator” on “American Idol” Wednesday night … and TMZ has learned the Sikh community is already hailing the guy as a MASSIVE success. In case you missed it … The Turbanator — aka Gurpreet Singh Sarin — won himself a ticket to Hollywood, while proudly sporting one of 50 turbans he claims to own. Dude says he color coordinates his turbans with his outfits. American Idol: Fox’s Mike Darnell Talks Unlimited Voting, New Theme Nights, Honest Judging – American Idol is back, and while Season 12?s initial numbers may be down compared to last year, Fox’s reality boss Mike Darnell insists he’s not worried. He’s got a buzzy new panel of judges, ideas for fresh theme nights, and a Susan Boyle-esque audition at his disposal over the next few months. TVLine caught up with Darnell to talk about Idol‘s early returns, the idea of limiting viewer votes, and the challenge of making sure A-list judges can still excel at their jobs once the live telecasts begin. – Read more at TV Line

‘American Idol’ Season 11: Where Are They Now? – Though season 11 will be marked by Phillips’ taking of America (long or short as it may last) and the discovery of a potential future superstar in the young, diva-voiced Jessica Sanchez, so far it has little else to say for itself. It was the last season for judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez, whose tenure on the show was marked by little more than Tyler’s odd quotations. Ryan Seacrest got punched by an elated contestant. Heejun Han stole everyone’s hearts during the Hollywood rounds. Ryan Seacrest got punched by an elated contestant. There were finalists, too — 13 of them, in fact — as well as a score of wannabes who didn’t make it to the live shows. Here’s a look at their careers since the “Idol” ride ended. – Read more at Billboard

Carrie Underwood Joins Songwriters to Celebrate “Blown Away” – “You changed our lives,” songwriter Josh Kear told Carrie Underwood as the two faced each other onstage Wednesday (Jan. 16) at the Country Music Association building in Nashville. They were there — along with a house full of celebrants — to toast the success of Underwood’s latest megahit, “Blown Away.” Kear was speaking on behalf of himself and his “Blown Away” co-writer, Chris Tompkins. They also crafted Underwood’s Grammy-winning 2007 single “Before He Cheats,” the song that launched them into the musical stratosphere. – Read more at CMT

OFFSTAGE: Kelly Clarkson’s Favorite Miranda Lambert Song – Kelly Clarkson and I have this in common: We are currently obsessed with Miranda Lambert’s “Mama’s Broken Heart.” I can’t stop singing it, turning it up, dancing to it and quoting it incessantly (“Run and hide your crazy and start acting like a lady” and “I numbed the pain at the expense of my liver” come up in everyday conversation quite often.) And Clarkson can’t stop talking about it to Lambert. – Read more at CMT

Former Idol Syesha Mercado shoots for the stars – SARASOTA (FOX 13) – As Syesha Mercado warms up her voice with her mother, it’s clear that the gifted voice runs in the family. “Her mom is a great singer, excellent singer,” said Syesha’s childhood friend Etienne Porter. Zelda Mercado said her daughter has had a bright future since American Idol. “She’s a go-getter and that’s what I like about Syesha. She wants something, she goes after it.” Syesha is currently on Broadway in Chicago performing in Book of Mormon. Next month, she will release her first single entitled, “You Don’t Even Know Me.” – Read more at My Fox Tampa Bay

Nikki Reed: My Husband Steals My Jewelry — and Clothes – He steals all my stuff!” Reed told PEOPLE at Gillette’s Kiss and Tell event in N.Y.C. on Wednesday. “He steals my necklaces. If I can’t find a T-shirt, it’s because he’s got it on.” And the style admiration is mutual. “I’m so inspired by Paul — I mean, he’s such a fashionista,” the Twilight star said. In fact, Reed is so impressed by McDonald’s look that the budding jewelry designer is considering creating a guy’s collection. “Maybe I’ll do a men’s line for him with belts and other cool, masculine accessories.” – Read more at People

I agree with Nicki, and don’t have a huge issue over how she’s expressing her disappointment.  This panel has the potential to be good, but relying too much on the “feud” can undermine them, as well as turn off viewers.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

As viewers, we always roll our eyes at the reality contestants that complain about their bad edits. I guess Nicki didn’t think they’d do it to the judges too, but  ratings come first in TV land.

Sounds like the star of “Nicki Minaj: My Truth” can’t handle the truth.

The truth that the producers only care about ratings? Ok…

  • http://twitter.com/bignliddle BigNLiddle

I have a strong, strong feeling that both Nicki and Mariah won’t last more than season 12.

  • elliegrll

I think that she’s a smart businesswoman, just like Mariah, and knows that this isn’t something that is good for the show.

  • bridgette12

Whether it’s Mariah or Nikki, you can’t complain about the problem when your a part of the problem. These people don’t give a rat’s ass about this show or the contestants, they are on there to promote themselves and their own project. It don’t take Stevie Wonder to show us how this would work out when they were all hired or to tell us just what their roles would be on this show. What did Nikki think this show was about and how she will be viewed with this little bitchfest she got going with Mariah. It’s not just the stuff they say on the show but’s it what they say on twitter, talkshows and in magazines. You can’t take the highroad when your down in the mud with the pigs also.

  • justmefornow

After reading that ‘Where are they Now’ article from Billboard, TPTB at Idol should be thanking their lucky stars for the even luckier P2 and his post Idol success.
If not for him season 11 would be pretty forgettable.
(Lets hope for better luck with season 12.)

Christina Aguilera’s “Just A Fool” Was First Recorded By Adam Lambert: Morning Mix

    ” …
    Did You Hear?
:: In a recent interview with Music Week, British songwriter Steve Robson talked about co-writing Christina Aguilera‘s duet with Blake Shelton, “Just A Fool.” Robson revealed that the song was initially pitched to Pink, but then Adam Lambert recorded a version. Lambert’s version was scrapped from his album “at the last minute,” before making its way over to Xtina. Oh, to hear that Lambo take! [Music Week] …  ”

    Was Adam’s a duet also?

  • asifclueless

Amy Beth … I don’t know; but I guess not.
Hope there is a leak of the song. I would like to hear it.

If they did the duet together, it would have been on his album.
Adam loves Christina. He always wants to sing with her.

Imagine … the two powerful vocalists .. a diva and a divo … fill your house and the music hall with their magnificent vocals. They will blow out the roof and your sound system.

Time for some kick-ass ”Shady” performance with Nile Roger, I suppose?

  • bridgette12

This is going to be great, I’m hoping Adam and Nile will do Shady together. Also got the amazing Anita Baker and Taylor, who’s fantastic also. It can’t get here soon enough. My wish is for some duets with the ladies also.

  • bridgette12

Nile Roger is just a class act and such a fan of Adam, who in turn, respect and love him. It’s going to be a long wait till the end of the month. It’s a great way to end his vacation before he head overseas.

To be fair, Billboard put absolutely no research into that article whatsoever.  EVP tweeted Billboard after the fact that if they wanted the scoop on what the S11 gang were up to they should actually you know, try to contact them.  Heck, they didn’t even bother to read their twitter feeds, which would take 2 seconds.

I’m not arguing the S11 gang are big stars, but several are working on singles/records, either independently or will be with indie labels.  EVP is recording and tweets about it almost everyday.  She’s talked at extensive length on her plans.  Last I heard DeAndre was likely being picked up by an indie label, plus he had that song that was posted on the blog a few weeks back.  They didn’t even touch on Skylar’s PR nightmare.  FWIW, I think it’s a bit too early to be calling them all failures when most of them haven’t had a chance to release anything as yet.

  • justmefornow

Well that all good to hear, especially them not mentioning the PR nightmare Skylar just had. But perhaps that’s why it was never mentioned, she too far under anyone’s radar to notice.
With the new season underway, they’re all kinda running out of time to strike while that iron was hot.
Regardless, it’s a tough business, I wish them all good luck.

Well he tweeted this a few days ago:

    James Durbin
    ?@DurbinRock

I just heard the #wrestlemania29 theme song demo. Man it sounds #awesome!!

Why would they send him the demo if they weren’t considering him to record it? I’m so stoked about this!!!!

  • girlygirltoo

what would they use it for — music at the matches?

  • abbysee

Then there should be no video to be shown! Will she behave that way and explode if Mariah or anyone else ruffles her feathers during a live show? Evidently she’s not that smart!

  • GinaBallerina

I could be wrong but I thought maybe Nicki’s tweet was in reference to A.I.’s tastelessness in showing the Turbanator as the Terminator, not her fights with Mariah.

  • abbysee

Hindsight is 20/20! Of course they were gonna use it. I am not totally convinced she’s so upset about it either. Especially if she thought she came out besting Mariah.

That being said, this panel could be good, if the sniping, cat fighting, and overall bitchery were nipped in the bud.

  • breakdown

I think the Mariah-Nicki drama is made up to try to increase interest in AI. It’s not working. Most are tuning in to see Keith!

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

I understand your point, but I guess my beef is that Billboard went through all the hassle to specifically do a “Where Are They Now” piece on the S11 gang, but then decided to not actually do the research to support anything.  It’s like they had their agenda going in about the season being a dismal failure and that was it.  If they weren’t interested and people like Skylar are under Billboard’s radar, then don’t do the article in the first place.  Though I suppose Skylar should be relieved since her press wouldn’t have been too positive.

  • justmefornow

That’s got to be it! GREAT exposure. I wonder if it’ll be like StandUp and if it becomes popular they’ll decide to put it on the album too. Maybe?

  • justmefornow

I agree, they should get their facts straight. Seems a lot of sloppy journalism going around these days.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PVEFG2TOUIXSROKUSO2O2DOWWE Taylor

Nicki Minaj tweets, “Is Idol really gonna play themselves and show that shit? Smdh. Wow”

Of course they are Nicki, they need the ratings to justify your’s and the other two new judges’ salaries. In the future, don’t do anything, while being filmed, that you wouldn’t want the public to see. I guess no one ever told her that. She’s about to learn the hard way now.

  • irockhard

Since it sounds like a song he had no hand in writing IMO if they put it on the album it should be a bonus track. And if it’s too cheesy for rock radio (like Stand Up) I hope Wind-up doesn’t make it a single.

  • http://twitter.com/AwesomeWillis Willis White

If James is recording the theme song for Wrestlemania it will be played in all the commercials. The
artist usually performs live on the show too, which typically gets over 1
million pay-per-view buys. Previous (recent) Wrestlemania musical acts include P.Diddy, FloRida, Motorhead and Limp Bizkit.  They usually get stars for the America the Beautiful opener too, which have included Aretha, Fantasia, and others…

So, this would be a great gig for James.

  • justmefornow

I’m not a fan either. But the WWE is HUGE!! worldwide. And the various Wrestlemanias (if this is indeed what we think it is, just guessing now) are watched in the US and worldwide by millions, so it’s great exposure to his target audience.
    * Fingers Crossed*

  • Larc

I agree.  If Nicki doesn’t want her real self shown, then she should make a serious effort to class herself up… as major an undertaking as that would be.

  • Axxxel

oh oh… hope Nicki will not go 180 degrees and become a dazed, purring colourful cat…with no opinions at all….

  • bridgette12

She can say anything she wants, but I wish you didn’t look so bad compared to everyone else on that panel. She’s not pleasant to look at and it’s hard to take anyone serious who look like the only color she don’t have on is the ones that haven’t been invented yet. I don’t care how big of a star she is or how much money she make,  a pair of big shoes and a gigantic red nose are the only things that keep her from being officially classified as a clown.

  • Axxxel

Yeah… I really liked “Shady” at the Vietnamese Hennessy Artistry concert !!Look how the (celebrity ?) audience reacted to the song… Even “the Dick Cheney look-a-like” and the lady who had her arms crossed in front of her, was moving along the beat… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6c3gILS1-Q

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PVEFG2TOUIXSROKUSO2O2DOWWE Taylor

I like her outrageous style. She has fun with her clothing, wigs and make-up.

I just wish she would own the fact that she lost it and move on.

  • bridgette12

What she say don’t make a bit of difference to me, because it’s her opinion and she’s being paid to give it. She’s just not pleasant to look at.

  • Anny_nanny

I will not be surprised if it is because story of Skylar BB decided to break the sequence after Hollie. But to write “in search of a label” is not exciting. I think it is too early to sum up the results on the 11th of the season – this season very few of the contestants was immediately signed, it will be a long road, but I hope that with a happy end.

  • Axxxel

Maybe Nicki is like the “fool” in the medieval period who looks ridiculous but tells the truth…

  • Anny_nanny

“Kezban Sauerbier: Road To Hollywood Interviews”

I am not surprised this list. I am surprised absence in it of women’s names. I don’t think it’s jealousy or envy, she looks only at the guys as a role-model.

Those are interesting picks. If I remember PP was inspired by Casey Abrams and Casey Abrams was inspired by Adam Lambert.

Finally a collab with Nile and Adam

  • bridgette12

I agree about looking the fool part.

  • Miz

This is one reality show that she can’t oversee the edit of. Hopefully, both she AND Mariah see how they come across and learn from it for when they go into the live shows.

  • ptebwwong

Theme songs for WWE are used to promote big pay per view events like Wrestlemania. There are also theme songs for every single wrestler when they come to the ring which usually fit the character they are portraying.

Theme songs for wrestlers in the WWE have been used from artists like Disturbed, Saliva, Aerosmith, Marilyn Manson, etc. WWE usually have rock acts used in their theme songs.

  • justmefornow

The song could be connected to this recording session coming up in LA next month. Time frame seems right (Wrestlemania 29 is in April)

and Adam Lambert (Season 8) was inspired by David Cook(Season 7) , David Cook was inspired by Daughtry( Season 5)  and Daughty was inspired by Bo Bice (Season 4).

It’s impossible not to “Like” all the WWE What If’s about James.  Dang!! I hope you’re all right.  Been seeing the earlier tweets from him also & wondering if we can assume (hate that word) anything.  Going along w/you guys & crossing fingers–it’s what we do (past & present).   Leaning heavily on this part especially – #blessed#boyhooddreamcometrue

  • justmefornow

Well there’s definitely something he’s recording for them, just not positive exactly what it is yet. That RT from WWEMusic pretty much confirms that.

James is still in NYC, but he must back in Cali on Monday because he’s going to WWE Monday Night Raw in San Jose on 1/23. Maybe we’ll know more then.

Shady is one song I like to hear in cd than live. But I gotta share to you my ONLY favorite Shady live performance. It’s vocally PERFECT! and it was done in the freaking early morning. I remember the DJ’s were gushing about it after his performance.
