Jessica Sanchez: ‘American Idol’ Premiere Event – Jessica Sanchez strikes a pose on the red carpet of the American Idol premiere event at UCLA’s Royce Hall on Wednesday (January 9) in Los Angeles. Britney Spears’ ‘X Factor’ Exit: What Does It Mean? – ‘It didn’t help her career, but it probably didn’t hurt it either,’ says reality TV blogger MJ Santilli of what ‘Factor’ did for the star. The confirmation on Thursday (January 10) that Britney Spears is leaving the “X Factor”? came as no surprise to anyone who followed the show’s second season. While it garnered lots of initial hype, the marriage never really worked and things fizzled almost immediately once the live shows hit the air. With both Spears and label legend L.A. Reid taking their leave, show creator Simon Cowell is once again faced with revamping half of the judge’s panel before the upcoming third season. – Read more at MTV

American Idol Season 12 Preview: Are Judges The Weak Link? – American Idol’s new season launches on Wednesday and the twice a week ratings juggernaut continues the next evening with a second episode to kick off 2013. The one sure thing is that the contestants will again be awesome. But what about the judges? As far as prognostication goes, I did pretty well as an armchair American Idol fan last season, picking the final three contestants in order, and well in advance. I also picked the winner from this trio. I was 100% on predictions last year, so I’ll take a leap now and without having seen a single episode, I am guessing that this season fans will like the singers more than people they are singing to. – Read more at Forbes

Exclusive: Keith Urban Reveals “Idol” Judge He Agrees With Most! – Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have been pretty vocal about their yet-unaired judging stints on “American Idol,” but fans have yet to hear from the *other* new judge — Keith Urban. toofab caught up with the Aussie country singer at the Qantas Spirit of Australia Party on Wednesday night, where the topic was all things “Idol.” We asked Keith about the reported fighting on set between Mariah and Nicki and asked him who on the panel he finds himself agreeing with the most. His answer may surprise you!

Rocker Chris Daughtry sells an Oak Ridge house to Volvo exec – The rock star, who rocketed into the national spotlight with a stint on the “American Idol” reality singing contest in 2006, sold the house in September for $585,000, according to county property records. Daughtry originally bought the property in 2006 for $690,000 and put it back on the market four years later for $720,000, according to property listings. That listing was removed, but reappeared in September 2011 with a $699,900 price tag, until it was eventually purchased for $585,000 — a loss of $105,000. – Read more at Biz Journals

Crash can’t stop ‘American Idol’ winner Kris Allen – When Kris Allen picks up the phone, he still sounds a little shaken. Understandable, since the winner of the eighth season of “American Idol” is just two days removed from a New Year’s Day car accident. The head-on collision in California left the pop singer injured, but he’s determined to proceed with his upcoming “Out Alive Tour,” which visits the Altamont Theatre on Jan. 17. – Read more at Citizen-Times

Chris Colfer blogs about his new film, ‘Struck by Lightning’ — EXCLUSIVE – To say the idea for Struck By Lightning hit me like a bolt of lightning would be an incredibly convenient way to start this piece but also the most accurate comparison I could make. There I was, Chris Colfer, a 16-year-old, 200-pound overachieving-but-underappreciated high school sophomore — you could light a match off my acne and construct a steam engine with the metal in my mouth. School had been out for hours and I had just finished organizing a literary magazine for the Writer’s Club (of which I was president). It was a Friday afternoon and besides the janitors and the teachers staying late to avoid their spouses, I was the last person at school. – Read more at Entertainment Weekly

Chris Colfer on Struck by Lightning, Harry Potter, and Casting Rebel Wilson – Chris Colfer doesn’t want to be, as he puts it, “the kid from Glee” forever — nor can he so long as Kurt is off at NYADA and not part of the main action on the show (which is back January 24 on Fox). So he’s been focusing on his writing career, which includes writing books, TV pilots, and movies. He also stars in his first turn as a screenwriter, the indie film Struck by Lightning, which features the delightful Rebel Wilson as his sidekick at a blackmail-fueled literary journal. Colfer called up Vulture to chat about his co-star, his fear of public singing, and how he used to dress up as a boy wizard. – Read more at Vulture

Chris Colfer on ‘Struck by Lightning,’ Secret Boyfriends, and Girl Fans – Some people learn how to write screenplays by taking a class. Not Chris Colfer. When he was in high school, he kept crouching down at a Borders bookstore in Fresno, Calif., where he religiously read, and reread, a $40 copy of Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola. “I was a huge history buff,” says Colfer, 22. “The movie came out right at the time I was studying for my AP European-history class.” By obsessing over the screenplay, “that’s how I taught myself to be a screenwriter,” he says. “I never could afford it, because it was $40. So I’d always visit it at the Borders and study the format.” – Read more at Daily Beast

    Funny Article about Adam’s… neck?lol

  • teri63

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for more Queen/Adam concerts.  It’s quite early in the year, so I’m not surprised that plans have yet to be made, but the fact that Brian May ended his comment with a dangling “yet” seems promising that the idea is at least being considered.

  • dd999

January is a quiet month for Scotty fans, as he hasn’t scheduled any concerts this month and assume he’s busy recording songs for his new album.  So, Yeah! back on the road again beginning with the amazing  Grand Ole Opry, February 2nd is exciting news!!!!

That will teach you to trust media.  I have never been around anything reported in the press, including minor traffic accidents, that were correctly reported.  Kinda makes you wonder how they are on big issues.

Kelly did a couple promo interviews yesterday on syndicated country shows. The interview with Kix Brooks is nice & in depth. The  most interesting part is probably where Kelly talks about R&B and country having a lot in common as storytelling genres that can have a sweet vibe and that being why they are her favorite genres. That morphs into an interesting discussion about genres and boundaries and how they can affect artists.

Kelly also mentions how when she was on AI, she begged them to do a country week but was told that they wanted to emphasize pop (as in popular) music. Nevertheless despite Simon Fuller not getting country music, he arranged for Reba to surprise Kelly and come sing with her. So that’s how they met! I thought that was nice.

There’s also a really hilarious part where Kelly talks about the movie Jaws and how it traumatized her.

Here’s another interview with Blair Garner and After Midnite:

    https://soundcloud.com/wooferson2/aftermidnight-1-11

It starts off with Kelly talking about how Brandon wearing his camo hunting gear is a big turn on for her.

  • lovetheusa1776

Lambert’s a distinctively handsome man in real life, but he’s also one of the favored few whose features resolve into glorious pixels in front of a camera.  Need some art major to discuss what elements in a face make that happen.

  • lovetheusa1776

Very clearheaded Forbes article – would find it hard to disagree with most of it.  Maybe any.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“There’s also a really hilarious part where Kelly talks about the movie Jaws and how it traumatized her.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?f…”

lol That was hysterical! Also, at around 35:40 of that interview, Kelly talks about how on Duets they were being too nice to the contestants, so the producers came and said (sort of jokingly), “OK, we need you to be Christina”. lmao!

“Nevertheless despite Simon Fuller not getting country music, he arranged for Reba to surprise Kelly and come sing with her. So that’s how they met! I thought that was nice. ”

That led to this duet, which was great!

  • Larc

I pretty much agree with the Forbes article as well.  But I don’t go along with the writer’s rather rosy assessment of Ellen.  I think she was hands down the poorest excuse for a judge Idol has had up to now.

  • lovetheusa1776

Yes, agree, Ellen was a disappointment.

  • lovetheusa1776

Wonderfully over-the-top with its movie-thriller music – loved it.

  • Axxxel

Thank you Chris Colfer (Glee) for giving us insight on how his movie came alive…(entertainment weekly) I have the impression that in this article. he is talking to that high school kid who has lost all enthusiasm and drive in his life to think of his/her future…

  • Axxxel

(Daily Beast article) Can we now speculate out loud that Chris Colfer (Glee) was indeed dating  this Max Ehrich guy ?? Or should we keep that for tumblr ? Then again, I am surprised that  Chris still has time to squeeze some lovelife in his superbusy schedule..of acting in Glee, writing and coproducing movies and writing books.

  • KelseyW

    Have fun! :)

Really wish I could be there tonight too. Hopefully Kris will tour in the spring/summer as well. If he does then maybe some western PA gigs will pop up on the second leg.

Oh, and if Kris extends his tour into the spring/summer does anyone think there’s a good chance he’ll continue to use the “Out Alive” tour name?

I was just looking at the Grammy rdio playlist (here) and it includes tracks from all General Field nominees (including Kelly’s What Doesn’t Kill You) as well as songs from other nominees. In the country and Americana fields they spotlighted tracks from nominees in the Album categories not Song/Vocal Performance categories (so no Carrie, Eric Church, Ronnie Dunn, Alan Jackson, or Blake in the playlist), but in the pop and rock fields they chose performance categories (like Group Vocal for pop, so no Adele or Pink in the playlist).

CMT Cody posted this video interview of Carrie and Mike at the CMT Artists Of The Year special. In it, Carrie confirmed that after touring through the end of May 2013, she’ll devote the rest of the year to prepping her role in The Sound Of Music musical.

At her wedding, she better thank Idol because they were indirectly responsible for her getting with Brandon.  If not, what an ungrateful person.  ;)

I absolutely enjoyed these interviews yesterday.  The Kix one was great because they were able to go deeper with the discussion. The genre discussion stood out to me the most and was very interesting.  And also the part towards the end about making sure you really want a singing/entertainment career bad enough because it’s really hard and especially hard at that moment you “break” into the bigtime.

Loved the AfterMidnite one for other reasons.  Who knew all it took was some camo to get her going?  haha  I think it’s funny she mentioned that the people around her commented on how much happier she (and he) have been this last year because it was very noticeable to outside people. Not that she was unhappy before, but there’s been a different spark to her.

The one she did with WSIX yesterday was also good in a really fun way.

Yesterday she also stopped by the CMT studio so I’m guessing there will be something on an upcoming Hot 20 Countdown show and also interviewed with Storme Warren for SiriusXM radio.  She did some more interviews today with the Cumulus stations.

I’m thinking that even though she and Brandon haven’t set a date, they might have a relatively short engagement.  I knew that eloping business wouldn’t hold true, but I guess never say never on that front just yet.  lol

  • breakdown

I don’t really care about Chris Daughtry selling his old home. His featured article in the January 14th issue of People Magazine is much more interesting.

Ha! She’s talking guest list and she’s picked her flowers so IA, elopement doesn’t seem very likely. The whole Texas Stadium gag to Narvel & Reba was great.

heartly: Yesterday she also stopped by the CMT studio so I’m guessing there will be something on an upcoming Hot 20 Countdown show and also interviewed with Storme Warren for SiriusXM radio.  She did some more interviews today with the Cumulus stations.

She definitely did an interview w CMT Cody for CMT Radio (here’s a pic.), I hadn’t heard about CMT TV but that’s possible too. I guess yesterday was her big radio promo day. It makes sense, all country acts are expected to go through those paces. She’s obviously not going to do a full on country radio promo tour (which I think is the label’s decision, they’re not going to pay for it) but, at least they did an in depth availability for the syndicated radio shows that are Nashville based. Then she can do the radio avail at the ACMs in April. I wouldn’t be surprised if she visited LA’s Go Country 105 during Grammy week too.

heartly: windmills, did you see where she mentioned getting another country song recently that she wants to cut, solo? There was a new song registered at ASCAP with her listed as a performer that’s written by Hillary Lindsey, Shane Stevens, Cory Churko and Jason Halbert called “Some Love” that might/might not be it or that one could also be the one of the other three that didn’t make the GH album.

I definitely knew she’d cut another song she’d described as countryish/singer songwriterish for the GH album. I’d guess Some Love is that. So, 2 of Kelly’s bandmates with Hillary Lindsey and Shane Stevens (I love those 2 writing together)?  I wonder how that came to be, was it a session together or was it more Jason and Cory coming across an unfinished song that Hillary and Shane had started, and finishing it?

I just heard WSIX interview you linked where she mentioned the new song she’d just gotten that she wants to record solo. I’m sure she’ll get a bunch more sent her way when it’s made known that she’s cutting songs, especially now that people know she’s willing to release singles to country radio. I was thinking that if she’s going to do the soulful thing (and she really should IMO), I would LOVE to hear her go at something like Kristen Kelly’s He Loves To Make Me Cry. Every time I hear that song I think of how Kelly would kill it (even though Kristen sounds awesome on it & she cowrote it).

Kris’ show tonight was awesome! He sounded great, new!Andrew has fit into the band smoothly and Kris wasn’t holding back because of his wrist at all. He was dancing and bouncing all over the stage. The crowd LOVED him (the venue was packed, although I don’t know if it was officially sold out). Jillette was really really good as well — she’s got a great voice.

Got to talk to the new merch guy, who is very nice. Turns out that Dotty wasn’t long for this tour — they’ve already replaced her with a new mini-bus.

  • tripp_ncwy

Poor Dotty couldn’t handle life on the road. lol

She definitely did an interview w CMT Cody for CMT Radio (here’s a pic.), I hadn’t heard about CMT TV but that’s possible too. I guess yesterday was her big radio promo day.

She supposedly did stuff for both singles yesterday if you go off this extra clip from the Kix interview (here) but I have no clue what was done for CMB.  I hadn’t seen the CMT Radio pic, but that makes sense she did that too.  There’s a makeup girl that works at CMT that instagramed a few photos (1, 2) from on set which I’m just guessing is the new Hot 20 show. Do they still have the CMT Insider show or did they collapse that into the new Hot 20 show?

I definitely knew she’d cut another song she’d described as countryish/singer songwriterish for the GH album. I’d guess Some Love is that. No clue how they all got hooked up.  I was actually really surprised to see Cory’s name there because while he does do producing and writing, he’s never had anything actually connected to Kelly in all the years he’s been with her. Jason’s done a number of things with her but I don’t think he does much on the lyric side of it.  I’m not familiar with how Hillary and Shane write, is it possible Cory and Jason worked out a track for them, maybe?

  • Incipit

That Forbes article was interesting, the way it traced the types of judges that AI has had – and back in Season 10, a good amount of the posters here were more in favor of Industry professionals on the panel than entertainers, we just wanted them to be articulate, and able to give useful critiques the contestants could actually use. (Not the hyperbole of Randy, the snippy remarks of Cowell, or the platitudes of Pauler.

We really got the opposite of useful criticism with JLo and Stephen, and it remains to be seen what the three entertainers of this season will have to say that’s useful. (and Randy, who is never useful.)

Yeah I was surprised too. As far as how Hillary and Shane usually write, they usually work out the music in their sessions with their writing partners. It wouldn’t be usual for them to rely on somebody else for a track after the fact. I’m really curious how this came about!
