Bucky Covington Interview: Singer Talks Five-Year Recording Break, ‘Good Guys’ Album and ‘Drinking Side of Country’ Video – Bucky Covington has traveled a long road to his sophomore album. The ‘American Idol’ alumnus scored the biggest debut of any country artist of 2007 with his self-titled first album, but found himself unable to follow up on its success after Lyric Street Records closed it doors, leaving him in contractual limbo for several years. Covington bounced back with ‘Good Guys,’ which he released on Sept. 11 via Nashville’s eOne Entertainment. The highly-anticipated album has a little something for everyone, from sensitive ballads and message songs, to hard-drinking party anthems like ‘Drinking Side of Country,’ a duet with Shooter Jennings. The video for that track has logged an astounding two million views (and some change) since it debuted on YouTube in early September, featuring a guest turn from fellow ‘Idol’ graduate Kellie Pickler as Daisy Duke. “I had to get Kellie to [wear] Daisy Dukes because I was tired of Googling it and nothing coming up!” Covington tells us, laughing. – Read more at Taste of Country

‘Dancing With the Stars’ Week 7: Look ahead – 6:33PM EST November 4. 2012 – What’s in store for our seven celebs during Week 7 of Dancing With the All-Stars? A reprieve, for starters. This week is proving to be a lucky No. 7 for the dancers because Monday’s episode (ABC, 8 ET/PT) is a regular two-hour performance show, one that ABC initially said would end with a live (instant) elimination. But that idea was nixed, as homes on the East Coast are still without power and that affects voting, as it did last week (when we heard from many of our readers who felt it was unfair that high-scoring Sabrina Bryan was sent home). Host Tom Bergeron announced that no celeb will be eliminated this week. And there is no results show Tuesday, as the presidential election takes over the airwaves. – Read more at USA Today

‘The Voice’ S3, Week 8: Inside Look From Jamar Rogers – The Knockout Rounds have, by far, been the most exciting portion of The Voice this season. Since this is a new feature of the show, I don’t have any experiences from my season to compare. However, I did notice some very uncomfortable situations for the contestants: having to sit onstage as their opponents slaughtered them vocally (I saw a few contestants shoot daggers. If looks could kill…). And to make matters worse, the contestants that are waiting in the wings for their moment of glory are forced to watch the massacre on a flat screen backstage (I would’ve been sweating like a fourteen year old boy and simultaneously throwing up my lunch on their very polished floors). I also realized that a few songs are VERY popular on The Voice and witnessed certain contestants have some pretty magical moments. I compiled my musings… – Read more at The Insider

Here’s a pic during soundcheck of the first show:

I hope the photo shoot means something’s happening with Hollie!

  • Anny_nanny

Hollie was the only fighter from 11s. I liked that she always kept his back straight. Liked as she was gone. I love this little girl, though she was not my favorite on the show. With surprise I realized that, besides Phillip, I have only Hollie songs from this season. I am in shock.
I hope she will not disappear and I will hear about her.

  • lisa

I always liked Hollie I hope she has an album soon, looking forward to buying it.

  • CanadianLady

I bought Hollie’s EP and most of her Itunes songs. Will buy her album if/when she has one. I think she’s got a great voice and a great attitude.

Also bought most of Phillip’s. And those of my favourites, who were unfortunately Heejun, Jermaine, and Erika. Hoping to get something from Heejun sooner or later. I agreed with Jimmy about Jermaine’s voice – had great potential. And I liked Erika from the beginning.

Lee DeWyze is at Lincoln Hall in Chicago tonight.

Also, very stunning pic of Hollie!!! This photo shoot could be to get her face out there to prospective labels and acting gigs. She has been taking acting lessons as well.

  • girlygirltoo

That’s a fantastic picture of Hollie. She’s a very pretty girl. Haven’t heard much about what’s going on with her since the Idol tour ended, but hopefully she won’t disappear.

I was able to attend one of the tapings of Blake’s Not So Family Christmas special last night.  All around it was a fun(ny) show, very Blake and I’m sure it’ll end up offending some people.  NBC is surprisingly letting him go with it.

They filmed it straight through and at the one I was at, Christina Aguilera had a small part in it doing a little skit with Blake.  I heard that she wasn’t at the 2nd show so that part was done differently.  Kelly and Reba each did intro skits with Blake before they sang with him.  Kelly’s played up the competitive singing show stuff.  It’ll be interesting to see which version they use of that because I guess they were a bit different in her delivery between the two shows.  The one I saw, while she was clearly acting, really played up the “diva” angle (think Mariah) and I’m not sure how it will come off to people that aren’t overly familiar with her and will think that’s how she really is.  In the other, I’m told it was more playful, less bitchy.  Without seeing it, I hope they use that one.  All the singing was great.

In total there were 4 or 5 filmed pieces and 5 songs performed:
    Blake – Let It Snow!
Blake & his mom – Time For Me To Come Home
Blake & Kelly – There’s A New Kid In Town
Blake & Reba – Oklahoma Christmas
    Blake & Miranda – Home

American Idol Contestants On Their Style, 11S

  • Willis White

Just ran across a bit of new info, at least for me. Professional cover band Boyce Avenue has been invited by Simon to help mentor on X-Factor. I have a few of their covers and they are quite good. They usually do stripped down covers of whatever the top radio songs are at the moment. Looks like they worked with Emblem 3 last week and may work with CeCe, Vino and Tate this week.

Explains where some of the arrangements are coming from.

  • Lexie O’Neill

Just to share…Scotty has a  page spread in the latest Country People, the 5 pager in Country Weekly last week, and a bit in J-14.  He’s also in Guideposts right now…  :))

  • Lexie O’Neill

So excited!  This was just posted…Scotty McCreery’s Christmas Special will air on December 1 on GAC.  Had no idea this was being called “his” special.  :))

  • MellyPer1692

Just listening to TMZ live and they did the P2 story. Said they are in a big family rift right now and it all started because his dad had merchandise made with Phillips name on them, including flip flops, umbrellas, scarves etc and wanted to sell them at some music festival Phillip was playing at (maybe the One World Concert?) and Phillip refused to let his dad sell the stuff.

Not sure if true, but they’re getting info from somewhere lol

  • girlygirltoo

Jana Kramer and Brett Eldridge and Gloriana are on it too? Somehow I have a hard time thinking it will end up being called “his” Christmas special. But what do I know, right? :)

  • girlygirltoo

lol, well Phillip’s probably got a merchandising deal with someone (19 or some other company), so IF this story is true (huge grain of salt, given the “source”) his dad wouldn’t be allowed to just go around selling stuff as “official” PP merchandise — he would have to get it officially licensed through whatever company PP is signed with.

  • girlygirltoo

Boyce Avenue isn’t a cover band — they used to be signed to Universal Republic and released original music.  They performed with Kris when he was in the Philippines in 2010

  • OffLeash

Well duh! You’d think Interscope wouldn’t allow the dad to hold an auction at one of P2’s performances.

Yikes at the TMZ story. Between the BIL who accused P2’s father of being the one behind the bitching (the tweet has since been deleted,) and that article I remember a few months back ~the dad had gone to the local press to whine about P2 not calling him~ I’m beginning to wonder about P2’s dad. Not that it’s any of my business, but it could start to seriously impact P2’s PR if “the source” keeps feeding TMZ with nasty gossips.

  • Kariann Hart

I enjoy reading about Idols getting together with other Idol alumni for various projects!

  • Jazz_11

Yep, especially if P2 has a 360 deal it means UMG will get a portion of any merchandise sold.

  • lovesickheroine

I’m confused as to why 19 and Interscope haven’t said anything about PP’s single Where We Came From. According to Amazon, the single will be released tomorrow.

  • MellyPer1692

Even if he doesn’t have a 360 deal with UMG. Phillip has a merchandising contract with 19.

  • lila6089

Hollie looks gorgeous!!!  I hope this means that she has some sort of music deal in the works.

  • durbesque

Time to celebrate!  ‘Home’ is back in the TOP 10!  (#9 to be exact.)

Wonder if WWCF will debut tomorrow?…I hope so…I really like the snippet.

  • OffLeash

    To radio, iTunes or both?

  • OffLeash

Is Terry gonna keep using the whole Durbin catalog from Idol? LOL

  • lovesickheroine

amazon says the song will be able for purchase tomorrow.. Not sure about iTunes and radio

  • OffLeash

Thanks. That is so weird that they aren’t promoting it. Maybe they got enough negative feedback on the song that they decided not to go out of their way to promote it, then bam, hit us hard with Gone Gone Gone after the holidays. ;)

intermezzo…. Adam Lambert’s full set “Live in the vineyard, Napa on 3rd Nov) +banter… in one video…

  • Axxxel

I remember Daughtry and Adam Lamber twho were not allowed to sell their merchandise when they were performing  at the Singapore GP  Formule 1 a few years ago.     :-(

  • Taylor

This PP family story just gets better everyday.

Phil Phillip’s Phlip Plops for sale! lol

  • durbesque

    “Where We Came From”….

Got it at Amazon $0.99.  I like it a lot…pretty much what I expected from the snippet.  Good hook, more complex than most hooks, which I like.

A few words are not clear, which I can look up.  Lucky his diction was perfect in ‘Home’, or it would not have been suitable for the Olympics.
