‘Idol’ show lights up Bradley Center, with biggest cheers for hometown top 10 finalist

The glitz, high energy and product placement of the “American Idol” tour landed at the Bradley Center on Friday night, and while the top 10 singers from Season 8 performed, this crowd had eyes only for Gokey.

Even the sight of Milwaukee native Danny Gokey on screens showing Ford-sponsored videos caused a frantic response. They were just plain twitchy when it came to Gokey.

But just like on the Fox show, the producers saved the best for last. The show had a countdown format, beginning with Michael Sarver, who finished number 10. “What’s up, Milwaukee? Or should I say Gokeyland?” Sarver said.

Artifact or Artifice?

The announcement that the Smithsonian was accepting the “American Idol” desk into its collection was the opposite of old-fashioned pomp and ceremony.

“Last night, Ryan Seacrest was injured in a horrible bikini-waxing accident,” began Ben Stiller, making a guest appearance on “American Idol” in May. In Seacrest’s stead, Stiller brought important news: The nation’s attic had a new treasure. Stiller, of course, was appearing on the Fox-produced “Idol” to plug his Twentieth Century Fox-produced movie, “Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian,” and he was joined by fellow cast members who pitched in to give the whole thing a mock-heroic sense of irony.

“Idol” champ Kris Allen sets release date for album

NEW YORK (Billboard) – “American Idol” winner Kris Allen will release his debut album on November 17, the singer announced Thursday night on his official Twitter page.

A rep for 19 Entertainment has confirmed the news in a statement to Billboard.com.

Allen broke the news with a straightforward tweet: “Hey guys! The album is set to release November 17.” Amazon.com made Allen’s “New Release 2009″ available for pre-order last week and listed the same release date, setting off speculation among “Idol” fans.

American Idols share thoughts before show

They came bearing cameras and signs, screams and sighs.

A few hundred “American Idol” fans gathered outside the Bradley Center on Friday afternoon, hours before the tour landed for a 7 p.m. performance that would include Milwaukee’s own Danny Gokey.

They held signs that read “Welcome Home Danny,” “Gokey Gang” and “Go Gokey – Dream On!” The top 10 singers from Season 8 were to perform, but fans of the bespectacled Gokey (who came this close to landing in the top two) were really out in force.

“I’m a fan of, like, both Danny and Adam,” said April Dunisch, who came from Fond du Lac for the show. She held a hand-lettered sign that said, “Real Idols Come from Wisconsin.”

Idol’s true identies are revealed

A long time ago, back when Simon Cowell drove a used Honda and people thought Justin Guarini had talent, “American Idol” was about innocence, dreams and good-hearted pluck. My, how things have changed. With the top 10 from Season 8 on tour, it’s abundantly clear that today’s “amateurs” are slick, wily talents who know exactly who they want to be. The kids wear the mask of naivet, but here we reveal their true selves.

Idols hold steady on the Billboard charts

Album sales were slow last week for everyone, including the Idols still on the charts. Daughtry’s Leave This Town sold an additional 33,000 copies, a 12 percent drop over last week. Despite the drop in sales, however, the album is down just one spot to No. 9 on the Billboard 200.

What’s interesting is that sales for the band’s first album are up 4 percent this week and moves up one spot from No. 105 to No. 104.

That Star Tribune “article,” is weeks old, originally written July 23rd by Sean Daley: http://blogs.tampabay.com/popmusic/2009/07/american-idol-secrets-revealed-why-kris-allen-really-wants-to-be-billy-dee-williams.html

And it was just as useless and unfunny the first time.

The funny this is how they are trying to market this as something written recently, well funny sad. Oh the pathetic state of newspapers these days.

  • isitoveryet

Here’s the rundown on all the Idols’ albums on the Billboard 200:

    9. Leave This Town, Daughtry (LW-8) – Total sales: 547,000
    63. Battlefield, Jordin Sparks (LW-54) – Total sales: 93,000
    80. All I Ever Wanted, Kelly Clarkson (LW-67) – Total sales: 674,000

Jordin Sparks’ “Battlefield” is up one spot to No. 16 on the Hot 100. The song is nearing platinum status with sales of 802,000.
Here’s how the Idols stacked up on this week’s Hot 100 singles chart:

    16. “Battlefield” (Jordan Sparks)
    23. “No Surprise” (Daughtry)
    65. “Already Gone” (Kelly Clarkson)
    80. “Come Back to Me” (David Cook)

I deleted some of the info from the article. So what I am to take from this is that Jordin kicked a$$ selling one song, but sucks in selling her album. Geez only 93,000. Isn’t that on the embarrassing side, or am I missing something? I don’t normally look at sales totals.

Re: Star Tribune. Old, old, old news. And not very kind news for any of them.

Not sure it’s for real, but according to Tommy2.net, this is the track list for Archie’s Christmas album…

On October 13th, David Archuleta will release a Christmas album titled Christmas From The Heart. Here’s the early track list.

    1. Joy To The World
    2. O Come All Ye Faithful
    3. The First Noel
    4. I’ll Be Home For Christmas
    5. O Holy Night
    6. Silent Night
    7. What Child Is This
    8. Mother’s Lullaby
    9. Angels We Have Heard On High
    10. Ave Maria
    11. Riu Riu Chiu
    12. Patapan

Riu Riu Chiu is a traditional Spanish Christmas carol and Patapan is a traditional French carol.

Regarding Jordan’s album vs. single sales, I think that it would be pretty accurate to say she caters more to that Ipod demographic. Kids don’t buy albums anymore, they download singles, unless you are a Miley or Jonas. And by the looks of things, in my opinion she is selling outside the idol bubble.

I could be wrong but I think Kelly, Daughtry and Cook are selling more albums because of Idol devotees and older fans. NOT to say they are not picking up more fans outside of AI.

    * 9. Leave This Town, Daughtry (LW-8) – Total sales: 547,000

    * 80. All I Ever Wanted, Kelly Clarkson (LW-67) – Total sales: 674,000
    * 104. Daughtry (LW-105) – Total sales: 4.517 million
    * 108. American Idol: Season 8 EP (LW-85) – Total sales: 34,000
    * 114. Carnival Ride, Carrie Underwood (LW-96) – Total sales: 2.954 million
    * 117. Kellie Pickler (LW-93) – Total sales: 298,000
    * 122. David Cook (LW-98) – Total sales: 1.226 million
    * 147. American Idol: Season 8 (compilation) (LW-116) – Total sales: 61,000

What was the point in releasing not only that full season 8 compilation but the EP as well?

On October 13th, David Archuleta will release a Christmas album titled Christmas From The Heart. Here’s the early track list.

Chills already thinking about him singing Ave Maria. Wow.

ETA: As for the single/album sales Daughtry and Carrie are good examples are people who have gone WAY past the Idol demographic. They’ve definitely expanded their fanbase outside of Idol and that’s helped tremendously with them selling albums as opposed to just singles.

In a vacuum of information, many some reporters just make up news. We do not know the release date for Adam’s album or the title but that didn’t stop these two wrong reports from late yesterday:

    1. New York Daily News -

Kris Allen and Adam Lambert to release upcoming albums in perfect harmony

Now it seems likely that this year’s top two ‘A.I.’ winners – Adam Lambert and Kris Allen – will go mano-a-mano on the charts as well.

Lambert’s record company had already announced the date of his debut album as Nov. 17th. But they had yet to trumpet a release date for the show’s actual winner, Allen. According to MTV.News, however, it looks like Allen’s CD will come out the very same day. They’re citing a pre-order post on Amazon.com which pegs Allen’s disc as coming Nov. 17th.

    2. Yesterday CDUniverse posted a description of Adam’s upcoming album titled “Eclectic” as reported in People Magazine. The writer thought the album was perfectly titles. They have since removed this mis-report.

Bonus wrong report from the New York Daily News:

Regardless of the date of Allen’s CD, some hints of its contents have been announced. The disc features performances by Fray guitarist Joe King, as well as hip-hop producer Salaam Remi, along with writing credits for Toby Gad (who produced hits for Beyonce and penned songs for Fergie), plus Lindy Robbins, who has worked with The Backstreet Boys.

I’ll be interested to watch if the Daily News corrects this error, removes the article or just leaves it.

That makes total sense. *head smack* I’ve been looking really closely at the music industry marketing strategies (but not labels) as a whole in terms of CD selling vs digital downloads & how they are going to deal with dwindling sales in their piece of the pie.

SHe is with Jive right? Now I am beginning to understand better why some people were saying that Jive is a ‘young’ label that is good at cranking out singles vs. some other labels that look at album sales. Makes sense in terms of a strong component of who the target audience is. I’m really interested to see what happens to the industry in 10 years. Even the standard album selling labels will need to diversify their target or number of artists with a few good hits or the artists will need to diversify their sound to appeal across genres.

    Interesting, interesting.

I think this is one of those things you have to look out of the Idol bubble to answer. There are plenty of pop stars with high teen appeal that are moving albums – or at least more albums that Jordin – right now. There are also other acts getting a lot of pop radio play that are moving albums. So it is not all about her genre or the age of her fans.

As for Kelly, Daughtry, and Cook… IMO it would be hard to say that Kelly or Daughtry especially only sell to idol fans or sell because of their idol fans. Kelly is far, far removed from Idol. Nobody with an album that sold 12 million is relying on idol fans. Daughtry sold 4 million records. No way idol fans did all that, or even half of it. They sold a lot of albums because for whatever reason, people got excited about their collection of songs and brought it. I’ll leave Cook out of it until he gets to album number 2.

I really really think that by the time these guys get to second and third albums, you are better off measuring their success against the conventions in their genre than other idols.

Very true. My other thought on this is that pre-teen/teens have less disposable income since mom and dad are cautious about spending. I think this is only adding to the singles digital download situation vs the entire album sale.

As for Kelly, Daughtry, and Cook’ ¦ IMO it would be hard to say that Kelly or Daughtry especially only sell to idol fans or sell because of their idol fans. Kelly is far, far removed from Idol. Like I said, Miley, Jonas, and Swift are the ones in that demo selling albums. Jordan I think will always be one of those artists that sell maybe one or two songs off an album, as are most artists targeting that demo.

As far as the Daughtry Clarkson comment, I did not say that most of their sales were from Idol followers, I didn”t even say half, but i did say they helped push those albums numbers, meaning the idol followers help boost their mainstream sales.

That Archie set list puts me in the mood for Christmas :- ) Or maybe it’s just desperation; it’s supposed to be 104 today, as it has been the past two days. Sheesh.

That WaPo article had some interesting musings on the historic relevance of pop culture. It wasn’t bad.

  • tinawina

Like I said, Miley, Jonas, and Swift are the ones in that demo selling albums. Jordan I think will always be one of those artists that sell maybe one or two songs off an album, as are most artists targeting that demo.

If I would compare Jordin to any of those, it would be Swift. Jordin was not marketed before as purely a teen product, like the Jonas Brothers and Miley Cyrcus. She was just a young person singing pop, like Chris Brown or Jesse McCartney. To me, she is a young female pop singer that teens and non-teen pop radio listeners should like… like Rhianna (not stylistically like Rhianna of course, just audience wise, though Rhianna gets R&B play too). I would compare her to maybe JoJo or Vanessa Carlton or people like that.

I don’t think she’s getting dropped or anything. Jordin is a radio airplay star. She sells singles. Everybody has to figure out how their particular mojo works on the marketplace, and that seems to be hers. Now its up to the label to see if that’s enough to make a good profit. My only issue with her is that she need to expand her fanbase, because it seems to be low. She SHOULD be selling more albums than she is, even if she is not a huge album person per se. Jive seems to be into her, so I’m sure they’ll keep picking away at it until they figure it out.

As far as the Daughtry Clarkson comment, I did not say that most of their sales were from Idol followers, I didn’ t even say half, but i did say they helped push those albums numbers, meaning the idol followers help boost their mainstream sales.

The only reason I said that was that you seemed to be implying that had something to do with the discrepancy between their album sales and Jordin’s and I was jut saying that 1. both were well past the Idol audience and 2. Jordin should be compared to people in her genre anyway.

  • isitoveryet

  • chrgi

Jordan’s last album didn’t instantly go platinum either. I think that if she does what she did with her last album and come out with a series of singles that do well on the radio, her album will hang in there and she’ll probably hit gold eventually.

I wouldn’t argue this point, but I think it also comes down to how the label decides to produce and market the album. Are they producing an album knowing that there is probably only one or two good hits or are they crafting an entire album for long term sales.

I guess. But regardless of the strategy, I think Jive is making lots of money off of Jordin. There was a good article about how they can still be in the black selling singles and ringtones and what not, even if the album sales aren’t as spectacular.

  • jpfan

Yeah, Jordin’s album sales are very low. Although the sales of many young female pop singers are shockingly low lately. Jive is def supporting Jordin but I think they can’t be happy with such poor album sales. I agree they expect more hits off the album which will lead to increased sales. But Jordin came off the show with a small fan base and it shows.

Plus for 90% of them, their first album is always their biggest seller. Each album after that progressively sells less. At a certain point 19 clears house and makes room for the new crop.

  • tinawina

I guess. But regardless of the strategy, I think Jive is making lots of money off of Jordin. There was a good article about how they can still be in the black selling singles and ringtones and what not, even if the album sales aren’t as spectacular.

That article was refrencing an act that had a monster single that was a ringtone smash. I know it gets used all the time as “proof” that Jive can make money of anything, but sometimes I think that point can be overstated.

But still, I don’t think Jordin is in any danger. I’m thinking they are going to release that SOS song and give her a video that alters her image a bit, then put out a remix with a rapper or something. They are probably going to try to make that song drive people to take another look at her. If the song is getting enough attention during the christmas season, she can make up a lot of lost ground in the album sales department.

  • JudyOhio

If those are the songs on DA’s album for sure, then “Christmas from the Heart” is certainly a fitting title. He has the vocal chops for this more serious effort, so in a way, I’m kind of glad he didn’t go with the lighter fare.

  • thebluemartini

Yesterday in the mail, I received a card in the mail promoting a musical (“13″) that is coming to the Houston area. It lists 13 Reasons I Should See 13, and reason #11 is…

“Watch out, Adam Lambert-next stop American Idol!”

What a delightful surprise it was to see Adam’s name, haha.

  • chrgi

Tinawina- Yeah I can concede that point re that article, but Jordin is a bit of a special case compared to other idols.

Every single she’s ever released has gone platinum and been a Top 40 hit. And Battlefield looks like it’s going to be her next one. If sells like 200k albums but around 4-5 million singles with Battlefield, that’s still more than a lot of her peers can say. If she can eventually reach gold, that basically puts her on the same level as Kelly Clarkson with her latest album and nobody thinks Kelly is in trouble.

Personally, I never watched her season or voted for her, but she along with Kelly and Daughtry have been the idol alumns I’ve heard on the radio the most. I actually have purchased one of her singles (One Step at a Time, it’s a really good pop song IMO). So I think to an extent she too has managed to break the AI bubble. At least enough to have people request and buy her singles.

  • jpfan

I wonder how Allison will do if Jordin’s sales are this weak. I can’t see her doing much unless her first single is a massive hit like Tattoo. Because Jordin won Idol and had the winner’s promo. Allison will rely soley on radio play.

That was a great vid from those SYTYCD alum. It would be nice if some of the Idols would use SYTYCD dancers in their vids – or actually, if would be nice if ANYone used them, but maybe singers in general think they’ll divert focus from the main attraction, I dunno.

Recording Boys Choir for Archuleta CD this morning. Should be the final touch on this song.
    13 minutes ago from TweetDeck

OMG. I wonder what song he is talking about. Kurt Bestor is the composer of “Prayer of the Children” that David sang at the Children Uniting Nations in Washington, DC in June. Is it going to be Ave Maria? Gosh, just thinking about it makes me excited!! Awesome!!

Regarding Jordin, she is a STAR in the making considering her constant hit songs and respectful reputation in the industry. Don’t forget she is just 19 years old and how far she has come since the idol and still developing. She might not have a huge fanbase but she will grow fast without your knowing. We all know she can SING!!

  • Trina

Jordan’s last album didn’t instantly go platinum either. I think that if she does what she did with her last album and come out with a series of singles that do well on the radio, her album will hang in there and she’ll probably hit gold eventually.

But she should have a substantially larger fanbase now than she did coming off Idol. As its been said the girl has had 4 massive hits and also toured with some major acts. Many tour with big acts to try and gain new fans. By selling singles and not albums I’m not so sure thats a great sign she’s actually gaining a decent fanbase but rather people just like her hit songs. Demi Lovato who I would put in Jordin’s same demo/range sold more than she did the week their albums came out and also is holding up much better with weekly sales so I don’t the demographic is the problem. I’ll be curious if Jordin ever does a small tour on her own and how that would sell.

My immediate reaction after listening to this was: there are just too many freakin’ words in this song! It sounds very speak-singy in parts. Seriously, it’s as if this song needed a lyric editor to chop out half the words, including (top of the list) … hurricanes …

Kara sounds good- I actually like NB except for just a few parts that ruin it for me. I think it could be reworked into a nice song if anyone cared enough to spend the time on it.

I only heard NB once after S8 ended- Adam’s version was playing in the grocery store. My daughter later heard Kris’s version playing in the same store another day, so I guess they didn’t play favorites…

  • Tess

Don’t forget she is just 19 years old and how far she has come since the idol and still developing.

Jordin is really someone out in never-neverland. There isn’t really any place to market her right now since she just doesn’t fit into the tweeny bopper image and she is still to young and fresh to be a full fledged R&B diva. I think she’ll be around for a long time and will evolve with each passing year and in 10 years no one will even equate her with AI anymore…and her fan base will be considerably more mature and appreciative of the talent instead of the “tasty” that is associated with teeny bopperism.

Miley and Demi and the Jonas bros. will die a slow death but Jordin will flourish as the years go on. I’ll stake what little reputation I have on that one.

    This.
I have a little concern for Allison, too. Especially female non-winners need a strong fanbase to be promoted by fans’ effort. Moreover, her image as the Pink 2.0 is not helpful, IMO. The market is difficult to break in if you are not unique and don’t have your own niche. Well, we haven’t seen what she can bring to the table, but so far, what I have seen is the innocent version of Pink. I like her, just my 2 cents. Don’t depend of Jive much for promo. They are very FRUGAL.

  • chrgi

Tess- I agree with you. Who is Jordin as an artist anyways? I think of her as the girl who sings those songs on the radio. You can’t really call her an R&B songstress because her songs are way too pop and you can’t exactly call her Disney because she’s getting old. I think her label may be content to let her go without, especially if she continues to sell, but IMO if they want her to really have longevity they need to figure something out and firmly establish it for her next album (and imo there probably will be a next album).

  • anthrogeek

self-editing again… time to move on

  • hwc

think Jive is making lots of money off of Jordin.

No way. Doing videos and buying the radio airplays for singles costs a fortune. Without the payoff of album sales, 19/Jive will drop her like a hot potato if the second album doesn’t sell. They spend next year’s budget buying a Latina-tinged single for Allison and see if they can rake in some chips on that bet. Record companies aren’t in the business of waiting around or developing young artists.

  • girlygirl

OMG, Kris just said that some chick at a meet&greet pulled up her shirt and her bra and asked him to sign her nipple!

Oh I wish I could have seen Kris’ expression when that happened. So I guess that means if he saw the chick flash Adam last night, he wouldn’t have been too surprised.

The first time I heard Battlefield that I said it’s a terrible song, and that opinion hasn’t changed. It’s the same with Kelly Clarkson’s I Do Not Hook Up, both dreadful songs. It’s heavy CHR radio play that drives the sale of these singles, those easily persuaded bought the songs, but it doesn’t drive the sales of the album, and I don’t really think the song is actually popular. I think the difference in sales between Battlefield and I Do Not Hook Up has to do with the launch of the album. Battlefield actually saw a huge bump in sales the week the album was released, the publicity appears to help with the sales of the single, but not the album itself, perhaps indicating those who bought the song aren’t that impressed. The single is now dropping fast even though the CHR spins are still increasing, those harder to persuade aren’t buying it. I think those who think that the song can sell anywhere close to 2 million aren’t being realistic.

I do wonder if anyone has actually done any analysis of singles sales vs weekly or daily CHR radio play. It’s just an idea, see if anyone disagrees with this – a sales/radio play ratio (plotted over time) might suggests whether a song is truly popular or not – a higher than average ratio may indicate a song is more popular, while a lower might suggest it is less popular. A faster decrease in ratio would also suggest that a song might be unpopular.

FWIW I think SOS is also a terrible song which wouldn’t help with the album sales, but we’ll just have to wait and see what I’m wrong on that. There are a couple of other songs in the album that are better IMO.

  • saga

Tess- I agree with you. Who is Jordin as an artist anyways? I think of her as the girl who sings those songs on the radio. Jordin comes across as being a young woman without much personality. This is where Allison is much more marketable. She has an edgy, goofy personality and she has a very distinct voice. They can give her generic songs, make her a disney princess or whatever but Allison might survive all that just because of those assets.

Q3, The NYTimes is one of the most widely read papers in the world. Why would it be hard? misconception much?

Because the NYTimes Sunday Crossword is intended to be a difficult crossword puzzle. The Times’ puzzles get increasingly difficult throughout the week — Sunday is the most difficult. The have America’s best puzzle editor, Will Shortz, and test all of their puzzles to rate the fairness and difficulty. They often mix in easy clues, but rarely on #1 across.

I assumed that the clue was in the main puzzle, but it may be on the second, smaller Margaret Farrar puzzle, which does contain easier and more humorous clues.

  • Tess

Kris definitely is a man of few words.

Some people find this endearing…I find it frustrating. You don’t need to “talk about your private life” in an interview but you do need to have an openness and an interest in stuff and be able to communicate it. It’s funny….a person remembers the “attitude” of an interviewee rather than the substance. If someone can be endearing and articulate and keep the conversation up beat and enjoyable the interview, regardless of the substance, is considered a success. Kris needs to “Seinfeld” his conversations. A lot of “nothing” can earn you rave reviews, but rigidity and emptiness can be your downfall.

I actually agree with the general gist of this, which is why I keep saying I don’t believe she’s in any danger. She sells singles fine, and if during the life of this album she sells a boatload of those combined with decent albums sales (plus perhaps a profitable tour and and endorsement or two) she’s good. Battlefield is not looking to me like it’s going anywhere near double platinum though. I’m thinking platinum by the time it starts dropping seriously in airplay and maybe 1.5 by the time its has been out a year. Still that should be enough if she can manage a few more like it on average.

I think gold for her album might be a stretch. We’ll see where she stands after the christmas season is over. I think if she makes it to 250-300K, she’s doing good.

Still, the girl needs a bigger hardcore fanbase if she’s going to make a bid for longevity, IMO. At some point, she needs to fix that.

I wonder how Allison will do if Jordin’s sales are this weak. I can’t see her doing much unless her first single is a massive hit like Tattoo. Because Jordin won Idol and had the winner’s promo. Allison will rely soley on radio play.

Allison is probably about where Jordin was when she came off the show. She has fans of course, but I don’t think it is a substantial amount compared to the 3 who finished higher than her. I agree she’s going to have it the toughest. She’s a bit more distinctive than Jordin however, and with the right songs she could start amassing a following, I think. I do think she stands out a bit in today’s marketplace. No one really has a voice like hers on the radio right now. Nobody her age looks or vibes like her either. So she has a shot if Jive doesn’t scrub all the personality off of her. But she is definitely going to have to work hard for it, just like Jordin.

  • Pam

I had never heard that song before. Thanks for posting the link mj. Very nice. :)

  • Valentin432

With Jordin, I keep wondering if her poor album sales are related to the fact that she’s a young female or related to the type of music in her album, dance pop electronica.
Lady Gaga is always mentioned as the big star of the later genre and her single sales are vastly superior to her album sales (at least in the US). IMO Kelly did an album much more along those lines (MLWSWY is really dance pop) than the more traditional pop rock and she is struggling to sell albums too.

To me it makes sense, I’ve never really considered buying an entire album of electro-dance music (unless it’s Goldfrapp but to me they are more trip hop like Portishead or Massive Attack) but I will buy the singles if they are good

  • happycat14

Q3, yes, Adam is the clue in the main Will Shortz edited Sunday NYTM that subscribers receive with their Saturday papers. Sunday puzzles, by the way, are not the most difficult. The Saturday daily is, as the puzzles gradually get more difficult Mon – Sat. The Sunday one is about the level of a Thursday, but it’s just a bit longer. Sorry for the overly didactic post here. It’s convenient that Adam’s name has two key vowels I guess, not necessarily saying he’s on everyone’s pop culture radar due to the puzzle.

I think that’s cool that JaQuel Knight is coming to tonight’s show to check out how all the idols did with his choreography. This isn’t exactly a news story, so feel free to zap if it’s not relevant, MJ.

I’m in a writing course, and my instructor published a short story that involves American Idol and Elvis. It’s hilarious on its own, but the last few paragraphs — especially the next to last one — make it relevant to so much of what we talk about here, regarding hysteria, entitlement, expectations, fantardism, and the like. I thought of what is happening to Adam right now (because, as folks joked last night during the show, it IS all about Adam, right?)

For your enjoyment — the day of the American Idol finale in a reality where Elvis, Bigfoot, J.D. Salinger, and my instructor all lived together in hiding in present-day America.

But the NYTimes crossword is syndicated to over 300 newspapers across the country and has the #1 puzzle circulation in the US.

Judging from every comment I’ve ever read about the single ‘Battlefield’, I may be the only person in the world who actually likes this song. But you can’t judge by me; I don’t like or listen to that genre of music anyway and I thought Jordin’s biggest hit (No Air) was a terrible, tuneless awful piece of non-music (didn’t care much for any of her prior songs, but ‘Tattoo’ at least had a recognizable tune).

Not a Jordin fan (Melinda should have won that year and Blake should have had a better album) but I actually think ‘Battlefield’ is a pretty good song. It’s catchy enough that I can remember the refrain even though I hardly ever hear it. It’s not the kind of thing I would ever go buy, but I don’t skip past it when I hear it on the radio and actually find myself humming along.

Still, Jordin’s album numbers are a disaster, I think she’s in trouble. Hopefully (for her sake) she’ll have a couple of other big singles that’ll help to pull the numbers up. Problem is, with such low album sales, maybe they won’t push another single… doesn’t that cost a lot of money?

Love seeing how well Daughtry and Cook are both doing. ‘Leave This Town’ has a LOT of mileage left in it, there are some awesome songs just waiting to dominate the charts as singles (I like ‘No Surprise’ but it’s actually one of the weaker tracks). As far as Cook goes, I’m constantly surprised by how ‘Come Back to Me’ keeps hanging on and chugging forward. A disappointing start for that one, but it seems to have a slow, steady burn. Still, I think it can’t be much longer before the next single is released (personally I’m hoping for ‘Lie’ but maybe something more uptempo, like ‘I Did It For You’ would be more strategic).

I definitely think Daughtry has more non-idol fans than idol fans, in fact by a large margin. Not as sure about Kelly, but you could make a strong argument for it as she has such a wide audience. I think Cook, on the other hand, has a much larger percentage of his fans from Idol (he just hasn’t been out long enough in the ‘outer world’ marketplace to gather a lot of non-idol fans – though I think it will happen eventually) Neither here nor there though, as long as they have fans I think all of them will have success, doesn’t matter whether the fans came from Idol or not.

Awww, they do more than just tinhat and bring the lulz. Way to go, kids!

Truthiness, thanks for posting this link! This was one of the nicest things that I have watched in ages. Spring2009: Well I remember reading on the internet quite some time ago that the wife of the guy who won had a crush on the gay guy who sang Johnny Cash on American Idol. Imagine the friction that that is causing’ ¦

My guess would be…..no friction at all, since it was a joke, and the married guy laughed while telling it.

  • AllenTX

I found this oddly humorous. From a Celebrity Cafe article:

Despite being bogged down with touring and making an album, Allen still has a good relationship with his wife, who he married last September, as well as runner-up Adam Lambert.

The way it’s writen seems to make Kris’ relationship with Katy and Adam equivalant!

LOL, I smell threesome is coming.

Where is katy now? Is she in LA house hunting or sth?

    Total DonorsChooose.org contributions:

    Fangroup challenge: $65,035

    General Adam donations: $12,682

    Total: $77,717

At the current rate of giving, looks like total will hit $100,000 in about a week or so!

Plus, the 5th grade band project was completely funded mostly by a number of Adam fangroups working together — $14,772.13! Since these instruments need to be delivered in a few days, in time for the start of school, I am sure that Adam can’t pick this one for his personal delivery, but I wish he could.

The teacher Mrs. B. 14 hours ago: “TOTALLY FUNDED THROUGH ADAM LAMBERT FANS!!! Please tell Adam you did it! Thanks Adam for suggesting support for music in our schools. Your suggestion came just in the nick of time. Thanks to all 234 donors for making this happen. School starts in just a few days. We will be on top of the thank you notes as soon as possilbe. Just wait until the kids find out….and you did it with 3 days to spare.”

One of the donors suggest a YouTube concert by the band with their new instruments. Here is a comment from the teacher Mrs. B.:

The teacher Mrs. B. 13 hours ago: “As to a YouTube concert, I will have to look into the legal issues on that. We’ll come up with something. THANK YOU – THANK YOU – THANK YOU! We are on our way!!!”

Hopefully, someone can assist her with figuring out the legal issues and putting a concert video online.

I think Katy is actually in St. Louis — I read that Kris’ family was coming to the next couple shows. But I think she’s still living in Arkansas –although unless they want to just stay in a hotel while Kris is out in L.A. finishing up his album, she probably should fly out here and start looking for hoses/apartments. Anoop was checking out places online — maybe he can give here tips.

Or hey — they (or any of the other Idols looking to relocate to L.A.) could move into my building — we have lots of vacancies right now — and it’s a block from the ocean! Of course, it’s not very convenient to the Hollywood recording studios (30 min. away depending on traffic) — but I never see any paparazzi down here — and there are a couple of Chick-Fil-A branches just a few minutes away!

Spotify’s coming to America. Soon, they say. Spotify.com is European stream all you want for free, allegedly advertising supported browser-based listening. Customers can choose to stream music free with ads. Or upgrade to premium, no ads. Record co’s get upfront licensing. So having good single sellers in your stable — like Jordin, Allison, anyone– can get you better fees.

There is some question whether Spotify is actually making any money. People love it. It’s like having the entirety of iTunes available for streaming free 24/7. But some speculation Spotify just a catergory killer looking for a killing via buyout. And they’re not even breaking even.

On the other hand, Apple is announcing Cocktail soon. In a few weeks at Apple’s Sept meeting. Cocktail is visual enhancement kind of interactive liner notes available when you download whole album. The big 4 music co’s and Apple developed. To boost album sales. Because singles are not profitable enough. Been wondering if Adam and Kris won’t get to have until their next album.

With JaQuel Knight at tonight’s concert, my guess is we get something extra on all the dancing. I hope we get video. And I would love to know what he thinks about how Adam changed the choreography. Based on last night’s JaQuel tweet to Adam, I guess he likes it.

JaQuel was the Idols Live tour choreographer but also did the choreography for Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’ video. So, I wonder if Lil will be a little nervous tonight. JaQuel gave her really difficult choreography, with many moves from the video.

Because the NYTimes Sunday Crossword is intended to be a difficult crossword puzzle. The Times’ puzzles get increasingly difficult throughout the week ‘” Sunday is the most difficult.

This is a common misconception. Sunday is not the most difficult, although the Sunday puzzle is the largest of the week. I think Spring2009 was joking, too. :) I don’t think anyone thinks that Kris’s marriage is actually being threatened because Katy secretly longs for Adam.

I did think that her saying that (assuming she did) and Kris repeating it was really cute. Katy and Adam seem to like each other a lot–I remember (I don’t know why I remember this, probably because it sounded adorable) Rushfield saying that after one of the shows (during the season) ended, he saw Adam go over to Katy in the audience and the two of them were talking for quite a while. And Katy did say Adam would have been her favorite had Kris not been on the show. :)

Have you purposely forgotten Danny’s salsa dancing? ;)

Uh, apparently so … I think I completely blocked it out of my mind.

  • happycat14

LisaE, Yes. Having seen the concert live, I’d say Danny’s “dancing” during Maria, Maria reminded me of the guy in the NY subway who dances around with a dummy girl attached to his body. He swings her around, salsa-style and is a bit hit. I think that guy is usually at Port Authority. I’m not knocking the choreography itself though.

listen, that’s exactly what I said upthread! Get out of my nerdy brain.

I love that ontd_ai video – thanks for posting. Good for them. Maybe I can suggest donorschoose to my daughter’s school. Love arts education.

Wow, seeing that X Factor, are all the judges eating during auditions? And it makes me really wish we could hear Adam sing that song (other than that little bit to Lyndsey Parker). That guy bends down really low when he sings, that might get annoying later on.

  • Q3

This is a common misconception. Sunday is not the most difficult, although the Sunday puzzle is the largest of the week. Saturday’s NY Times puzzle is said to be the most difficult’ ¦ Sunday’s puzzle is equal to a Thursday puzzle. (Yes, I watched the movie ‘Word Play’ and that is how I know )

Clearly, I need to brush up on my NYTimes crossword puzzle knowledge. LOL! And I clearly need to see “Word Play”! Next time I will do better research! And I actually knew that the end of the week NYT puzzle was the hardest. Duh!! that would be Saturday! Major fail!!

From Will Shortz in the New York Times:

In the continuum of puzzle difficulty, from Monday (very easy) to Saturday (very hard), the Sunday Times crossword is pitched at about a Thursday level. This is hard enough to challenge most solvers, but not so hard as to stump all but the experts. Top solvers can complete a Sunday Times crossword, on average, in 8-12 minutes. Ordinary people, of course, can’t finish it at all.

So what I have learned today is that I really need to get the Saturday NYTimes rather than the Sunday Times, and that since it usually takes me longer than 12 minutes to solve the Sunday puzzle, I am not a “top puzzle solver”. But I still think that #1 across = ADAM is a laughably easy clue.

  • karenw

Not sure if it’s the actual arrangement used for Adam .. it’s certainly not Adam singing at the end.

.. and yeah they do edit the crowd interaction .. but there again they do that on all of these kind of shows where auditions are pre recorded infront of an audience .. Britain’s Got Talent, America’s Got Talent etc .. plus even if there isn’t an audience it’s obvious that judges reactions and comments are edited to suit.

.. although a friend of mine was in the audience at this particular audition in Birmingham and he did get a good crowd reaction

Nice piece about Danny from CMT.com. From August 26th, but I hadn’t seen it posted yet.

American Idol’s Danny Gokey Goes Country

He goes on to say what country means to him and how it’s more about the message than the twang. He talks about how country music is changing with the times and gives Darius Rucker, Taylor Swift and even Miley Cyrus as examples of what country can sound like right now. “There’s no twang in my voice, yet on the show I sang three country songs,” he says. I know he’ll do well here because other Idol faves have gone on to big things when they chose Nashville as their launching pad. Plus, after losing his wife, Sophia, right before the Idol auditions, Gokey went on to win the hearts of millions despite his pain. That takes guts. And who doesn’t love artists with guts?

November looks like it will be a really crowded month for new records — including a lot of records associated with 19.

Carrie Underwood (11/3/09), Kris (11/17/09, Allison (11/09), Adam (11/09), Jason Castro (11/17/09), Leona Lewis (11/17/09) Looks like Carrie could take the #1 Album spot for her album, but I think the others might have more trouble.

November 3…Carrie Underwood, Andrea Bocelli, Nirvana(rerelease), Foo Fighters

November 10….Bon Jovi (first single from album didn’t chart), Three 6 Mafia, Robbie Williams, The Bravery, Michelle Branch, Nelly, Now That’s

November 17…Kris Allen, Avril Lavigne, John Mayer, Jason Castro, Leona Lewis, John Mellencamp, Nirvana(rerelease)

November 24…Sade (first album in 9 years), Little Wayne (rock album), Diddy, Lady Gaga (rerelease Monster Fame $78 discount price), Susan Boyle (UK 11/23/09)

End of November (could be 11/24 or 11/30)…Susan Boyle (NA)

unscheduled November: Adam Lambert, Norah Jones, Allison Iraheta, Craig David, Alicia Keys, Taylor Swift (rerelease), Glee Soundtrack

Diddy’s “Last Train to Paris”, his electro-hip-hop-soul funk album, releases on November 24, 2009 and is expected to sell well. His last album was #1 but only sold 700K+, down somewhat from his previous albums.

And Susan Boyle could take the #1 pop album slot in the UK and possibly the UA and Canada — but I think this is not certain.

The wildcard for November is the Glee Soundrtrack which could do really well in the US.

More on Susan Boyle’s debut album, “I Dreamed a Dream” :

    Link to artilce.

According to play.com, the debut album will be released on the 23rd November and it will be called I Dreamed a Dream, after the Les Miserable song which made Susan famous.

Fans around the world have been flocking to sites to pre-order the album and it looks set to be one of the most popular records in history.

Susan is scheduled to be in the US for some performances starting 11/26/09 and release her record in the US at the end of November. The fans from around the world flocking to pre-order the album, must be ordering it from the UK. You can’t pre-order this album in the US, Canada, Japan or most other countries. I think the demand may be a bit overstated.

Kris actually has a younger brother who convinced Kris to try out for Idol. He tried out as well and actually made it further than Andrew. He’s also (from what I can tell) more outgoing than Kris, so I think Andrew and Kris’s brother would have quite a bit to talk about.

Thanks for recapping the November schedules Q3. Looks like I’ll be shelling out a few $$. This is my first fully invested AI season, and I’m a little surprised at myself at how much I’m looking forward to hear not only Adam’s album, but Allison’s and Kris’s too.
I do hope that Matt gets a record deal, as I’ll also buy his album.

SuBo’s is not on my list though. :thumbdown_tb:

Thanks for posting this. Looks like Jamie had something hanging from his back pocket, though I couldn’t tell if it was a cat-o-nine tails. :)

I wondered about that at first too .. but it’s a long scarf kind of thing

I don’t know what is hanging from his back pocket but I agree is the a long scarf kind of thing.

Also thanks for posting the Jamie video. Pretty good performance and he was great interacting with the audience. But, I wasn’t that impressed with him vocally. It will be interesting to see how he does.

Also, I think the whole Afro thing is a bit odd. Perhaps because I lived thru it the first time around — IMO it looked a bit silly then, too.

  • Susan M.

I think the demand may be a bit overstated.

God, I hope so. I mean, I totally don’t get that whole thing. Yes, it was an incredible moment, but I found it a very decent cover of a great theatrical song. I didn’t think for a minute that she was the second coming of Sarah Brightman or anything. I thought later performances were not particularly impressive at all.

I have little more than a passing interest in what she does musically other than interesting pop culture relevance. I think its amazing that the level of fascination has remained so high; I thought the whole thing smacked of a one-moment-wonder phenomenon proliferated by gratuitous editing and viral word-of-mouth.

Kris actually has a younger brother who convinced Kris to try out for Idol. He tried out as well and actually made it further than Andrew. He’s also (from what I can tell) more outgoing than Kris, so I think Andrew and Kris’s brother would have quite a bit to talk about.

Andrew really should do a show interviewing Kris’s and Adam’s brothers. It could be quite funny, and they could offer advice to Season 9′s younger siblings. In fact, take it one step further, if he could film it, it would be perfect filler for some of the AI episodes. Or even better, get rid of the stupid awards at the finale, and air the Andrew sibling special instead.

ETA-It will need to be scripted to get that SNL skit feel to it. (or Spinal Tap rockumentary feel) Ok..I’m going to keep my fingers crossed that someone in AI runs with this idea.

I think sometimes we take this Kradam thing too serious. It’s just for the fun of it and it happens every year(at least a couple of years that I know of). It just seems to be different this year because they were room mates and oother factors that I wouldn’t like to mention. But it’s been fun and I don’t believe they will joke about it in public if there was anything going on. After the tour it will die it’s natural death but I know these two guys have become more of family than mere friends. I just hope Tmz does not see them together one day and pull one of their stupid spoofs on them other than that we as fans may never hear fo them together. And that will be good for me, for you.

    isisdagmar,
Point of correction, Kathy nevr said she was longing for Adam. she just tried to add some fun to the whole thing to make Adam feel there’s nothing wrong with him finding Kris attractive. So via Mr. allen, she said I also have a crush on Adam. Longing is too strong for me, for you.

From DCO (LostMySnark) — a review of Cook’s Seattle concert from Seattle Gay News:

    http://www.sgn.org/sgnnews37_35/page23.cfm

Interesting how the reviewer characterized the demo of Cook’s audience in Seattle as comprised of teenage girls and Gay boys. Love this part:

However, with over 100 live shows under his belt, the 26-year-old is quickly becoming one of rocks best live acts.

ETA: Hah! The reviewer made a mistake regarding Cook playing TOML though.

Hmm? I think there might have been a misunderstanding somewhere, because my point was that it was a joke–a cute one. :)

Spring2009 made a joke that someone took literally, so I said, “I think Spring2009 was joking, too. I don’t think anyone thinks that Kris’s marriage is actually being threatened because Katy secretly longs for Adam.” As in, Katy was just being cute and supportive, as was Kris in repeating what she said–no one thinks she’s actually mooning over Adam or something.

It think it would be intersting if Andrew interviewed Neil, Adam’s brother. I’m sure they both have similar experiences in regards to having older famous brothers. The stories they could swap would be hilarious.

With the right writer, there would be a bidding war for that premise during TV pilot season with those guys. “Brothers Keep” It’s 3 guys in the City. Reality based, yet scripted. The teacher who has a sex symbol brother but claims he can’t get a date. The cheerleader (!) who decides to get out of the South. Maybe he can be the only straight guy in dance class, and a lothario. And Andrew can be a singer, DJing to pay the rent. And they all (stupidly, but stubbornly) refuse to accept their occassionally guest starring brother’s help.

  • Q3

But I bet that Mrs. Brown did have a lovely door, as well as a lovely daughter.

Seems like The Monkeys have faded into the distant past! I think that their most memorable single is – “I’m a Believer” /”(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone”. Their B side on this single was better than most A sides at the time. Note: I would like to hear Adam sing “(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone”.

Funny thing about reading anything about the Monkeys here, is that the Monkeys were a manufactured group (put together to cast a TV show) that could never have credibility because 1. they were created for and by a TV Show., 2. they had so many tween girl fans, and 3. most of thier hits were writen by top songwriters who basically wrote pop/rock hits like they were on a production line. Sound familiar?

And, it’s really sad that The Monkeys get so little respect and recognition.

    They were really popular:

“More of The Monkees” spent 70 weeks on the Billboard charts becoming the 12th biggest selling album of all time (Billboard.com). The Monkeys held the number one spot on the Billboard album chart for 31 consecutive weeks, are one of only nine artists achieving number-one hits in the United States and United Kingdom simultaneously — and they did it twice.

They had four number-one albums in 12-month span. The only act to have their first four albums go to number one on the Billboard charts.

    The Monkees (1966) #1 US, #1 UK
More of The Monkees (1967) #1 US, #1 UK
    Headquarters (1967) #1 US, #2 UK
Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd. (1967) #1 US, #5 UK

    They were also innovative:

Gave the Jimi Hendrix Experience their first US concert appearances. It should be noted that Hendrix’s heavy psychedelic guitar and sexual overtones did not go overly well with the teenage girl audience.

First rock band to use a multimedia live concert show (film, stage choreography and music).

First actual live concert footage to be featured in a motion picture (Head, 1968).

And they even made a significant contribution to glam rock:

They compelled another David Jones to change his surname to Bowie to avoid being confused with Davy Jones of The Monkees.

Catching up on the posts, with Kara’s version of NB playing. She’s doing a good job, but I still don’t like the song. Maybe it was written for her voice? In a stunning upset, the new judge wins AI! :lol_wp:

Hey, if MrsB has the block quote down, (you go, girl!), I’ll have to go back and try it again some time. Meanwhile, back to my cheaters version. :-)

“Matt’s giving a lot more of himself in this interview than Kris. Kris definitely is a man of few words.”

I hope that Kris being a man of few words doesn’t hurt him in the long run. In some of the interviews where Kris and Adam were together, (and the recent ones with Allison, too), I thought that Adam was trying to let the others speak up, but when nothing was happening there, he jumped in to fill in the dead air. Maybe I’m interpreting that wrong, (after all, Adam does like to talk anyway), but it did look that way to me.

I can see Adam doing the talk show circuit, and talking to the various hosts, as well as singing on the shows, but I worry that Kris won’t get the same opportunity, (unless he brings Adam with him), because of he isn’t as at ease with chatting. I can easily see Adam getting more interviews overall once the AI tour is over, because he’s much easier to interview. That could hurt Kris in the long run. Same for Allison. I recognize that doing good interviews is a difficult skill, (I’d fall flat on my face if I had to do it, I’m sure), but it seems like an important one for these guys.

Love the title. I really think it could work, at the very least, as a skit. Especially if you get Adam, Kris and David in it. Of course they would have to be a-holes to their younger brothers.

The idols could have their little bros fetch them lattes, carry their luggage, and complain about what they are wearing…”why did I bother getting you the Adam Lambert 2010 Glittery Alien tour shirt if you aren’t going to wear it in public when we are out?” Kris’s brother (don’t know his name) and Andrew could be “it was our idea to try out for idol!!” Ah, it could be comic gold.

I had the same impression when I watched the three of them in the recent Kris-Adam-Allison idol videos – fan questions part 2 specifically.

I can see Adam doing the talk show circuit, and talking to the various hosts, as well as singing on the shows, but I worry that Kris won’t get the same opportunity, (unless he brings Adam with him), because of he isn’t as at ease with chatting. I think that they’ll both do the whole talk show circuit to promote their albums. I bet that Kris will primarily be “Hi, Hello” and then perform. And Adam will get to talk a lot more. I think that they will both be happier that way. And, since Adam hasn’t been on most of the shows yet, and is really entertaining in an interview, he may get a few more interviews in October-November. Personally, I really want to see Adam guest host SNL — just remembering his Best Week Ever performance makes me think he’s a natural for sketch comedy.

    Danny’s latest tweet:

Is that supposed to be satire? Like how kids are always saying this because they’re not feeling electronically stimulated by text or computer? And don’t understand what a rich, wide, exciting, and varied world it is, and how much there is to do?

  • girlygirl

Kris talks plenty when he wants to and he’s comfortable with whoever is interviewing him. He’s had numerous interviews in which he is chatty and funny. He doesn’t tak as much as Adam does in interviews, but Adam obviously likes to talk and is comfortable dealing with interviewers. Kris isn’t necessarily going to volunteer a lot of information — the interviewer can’t expect a long answer to a simple question, while Adam may say more without prompting. But Kris is a lot better with interviews than he was when he was on the show.

Heh. There was also a Flashmob in Trafalgar Square today.

Trafalgar Square is quite the place to be this summer! Have you guys checked out the art installation thing going on, “One & Other”? Thirty-thousand-plus people vying for a one-hour slot atop the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, able to do whatever they want, as long as it isn’t illegal. They are doing it around the clock for one hundred days in one-hour slots. So much of it has been hilarious, and even the quietest hours are fascinating in an “animal at the zoo” or social anthropology type of way.

One & Other — very high quality live feed
    L.A. Times article on it

I’ve seen “acts” range from a girl dressed as Robin Hood throwing chocolate coins and arrows wrapped with pound notes to, my favorite so far, a man doing a live version of Rocky Horror Picture Show. :)

One girl said she wanted to be up there to catch Simon Cowell’s attention before she tried out for one of his shows. She was upstaged by a crowd of drunken pub patrons who sang and staggered at her feet as she threw them cookies.

How good is Adam when his little tired brain, and foot in his mouth, created smelly-gate, amongst other things. I love Adam and yeah, I think the vast majority of the time, he is good at the whole interviewing schtick. But on the other hand that like 2% of the time, he puts his foot in his mouth up to his knee. Kris is boring the vast majority of the time (I really like him, but he so is and stop mumbling!), but at least he doesn’t mess up. Allison is 17 and generally sucky at interviews, but she certainly has the excuse and age and time to do better.

Bwah! I would so watch that show. Although I think we’d have to change the premise somewhat so that at least one of the brothers has no problem accepting help as well as all the reflected glory his brother’s fame can get him, to the chagrin of the other two. Andrew Cook joked even during the audition stage, after Cook had made it through only the first round of producers’ auditions, that he (Andrew) would have no problem Ashlee Simpson-ing (his words) off Cook’s fame should things work out for his brother.

When Kris did the winner talk show circuit in May I thought he was fine. The back and forth between him and the hosts were not awkward or silent, he had the opportunity to tell some funny anecdotes and most importantly, when he had to sing he sounded great. I mean what more can you really expect from that kind of an appearance?

  • Tess

But on the other hand that like 2% of the time, he puts his foot in his mouth up to his knee.

If you watch enough late night television interview shows you find that one of the main objectives of the host is to get that 2% from their guests. That is what makes good TV and good radio interviews. Some celebrities are always on the “talk shows” because they are adept at finding that 2% that will keep their name in front of the audience and raise a little controversy.

I hope to hell that Adam keeps it up and that Kris and Allison learn how to do it. PC is not the way to go if you want to be a featured guest….the PC ones get a one time shot and then you never hear from them again. Kellie Pickler is making a killing by putting her foot in her mouth over and over again on talk shows, and actually Kelly Clarkson is adept, too.

Boring and straight and PC does not a good interview make. And who really wants to hear about how an album is going to sound over and over again. A listener wants a bit of titillation, and something OTT to laugh at. Or at least this listener does. Go Adam…keep those brain farts coming!!

I should be at this show tonight but I was diagnosed with ‘Swine Flu’ after returning from the GMA concert in NYC. I am a very sad and sick panda. :(

I guess Danny’s backstage just hanging out until the show starts in another hour. But there must be something he could do to keep from being bored — read, go on his computer, sleep, etc.

And do we know when this Steven guy is planning to streak across the stage? (which I doubt he will actually do, of course) Would it be during Adam’s set?

was simon actually singing along to sex on fire. that has to be a first. he is such a diff person on these british shows than AI

lol .. yes he was .. I’m surprised as I thought he would only join in with something like Unchained Melody

    .

He might be worried about going blind

:lol_tb: .. yeah imagine having to get a new prescription to replace the lenses in every pair of his specs

lol .. I don’t think Danny’s very good at amusing himself .. didn’t he say that he found result’s days boring and he tweeted a few times during tour rehearsals saying he was bored. Perhaps he needs to take up a new hobby or something

or start dating. is it too soon 4 that?. he looks like he will make a good husband and father, like he says he can’t let tragedy define him. hope he meets anor special person.

I prefer daryl’s audition to jamie’s. Daryl was just a lot more fun. though i think auditions shld be just their voices no background tracks so we can hear their voices. h/ever i hope i don’t see him on Today’s show next week.

I just felt that Daryl’s audience reaction was more frabricated, but I agree that he was a lot of fun too.

was simon actually singing along to sex on fire. that has to be a first. he is such a diff person on these british shows than AI.

Yes I’m not sure either if it’s the first time or not he is caught singing along.
Simon looks like he is not bored which is a huge difference with AI, also he gives a lot more standing ovation in the UK, I know that Adam was the first on idol but certainly not if you count the X factor.

Nobody gives their best interviews on a phone-in radio show, period. There’s no visual cues or feedback. In person interviews will always be richer – be that radio or tv (unless the interviewer completely sucks). Adam messes up less in person, and Kris is more interesting.

The Monkees didn’t sing that song. That was Herman Hermits, (Peter Noone was ‘Herman’ .)

LOL on me. I guess that proves you DO forget your first love.. although I loved Herman’s Hermits too.

I personally think Kris will be fine with interviews when hs album falls. At least they are not going to ask him those personal repeated questions. Trust Kris to talk a lot when it comes to his music and hopefully, there’s going to be more cocentration on the album. I am not Kris but I’m even fed up with those awkward and same old questions that are always asked.

His handlers need to tell the kid who won Idol that the point of a PR interview is for the guest to talk a little bit and say something more than “uhhhmmm” and “yeah”. What a horrible interview. Cook’s brother must have been pulling his hair out (does he have a comb-over, too?) trying to get something out of this year’s Idol winner. Wow. He got nothing back.

Oh, my heck, the kid couldn’t even come up with the name of a city where he had a really good show, excpept the one where he was sweating a lot, but he couldn’t remember the name. Oh, yeah, and he managed to dis Ohio, saying that nobody expected to have a good show in Cleveland. Dude, you are from Conway frickin’ Arkansas. You got nothin’ to rag Cleveland about.

If the kid keeps this up, the only interview he’s ever going to get is talking about his mothers dump cake in Arkansas Rural Life magazine. I’ve seen a sink of dirty dishwater that has more charisma in an interview. Sheesh.

    HEY GUYS

I have a question, kind of about headlines, and I know you guys can answer it. I was thinking about how Anoop hasn’t been out to the post show barricades for the fourth time in the row. Is he sick, we wondered? Then I got to thinking.. I don’t think I’ve seen an interview from him since, i think cleveland… but then I was like.. have I seen an interview from any of the idols? is it just me, or are there no interviews coming in? Or is it just anoop? I mean, it’s only been like… 5-6 days.. but that seems like a really long time. (okay, when I was writing this, I thought it was a lot longer than 5 days. Seriously, it feels like about two weeks.)

oh here’s this. was this posted?

Kradison part two. they’re on couches? no? anyone? I haven’t watch it yet. I just saw it while looking for Anoop.

  • kt_cle

I agree vanjess. If you look at Kris’s interviews with Jim Cantiello, Michael Slezak, Jimmy Fallon, and Jay Leno, you see a more relaxed Kris with more to say. He’ll never be the same kind of interview as Adam – and Adam will probably always be better at compensating for a weak interviewer – but when given the chance to talk about himself (and his music) in a laid back atmosphere, his personality really shines through. He just happens to be more of a low-key, one-liner kind of guy, but I’ve seen him come alive in some of these interviews.

He sounded exhausted during today’s interview with Andrew Cook – but there were a few times where he tried to comment, but Andrew talked over him.

  • Truthiness

I must say I liked the micheline thread even better’ ¦

Well that I agree with, but than the Michelin picture is 100% lulz worthy and therefore, inspiring of more lulz. The other? not so much. And getting back to the point of this, I don’t think that Adam has to be 100% PC not to do and say things in interviews that will get him in trouble with potential fans and therefore potential cha-ching. There is a happy medium between vanilla and food poisoning, Adam needs to find it. For my sanity and the sake of my typing fingers and for the sake of my incipient carpal tunnel. I don’t enjoy defending him when he says and does boneheaded things, especially when I think they’re boneheaded. The latter is totall my worst case scenario, but of course I do it with love, because I am a stan to the ‘tard degree.

He sounded exhausted during today’s interview with Andrew Cook – but there were a few times where he tried to comment, but Andrew talked over him.

Andrew Cook also insulted the heck out of him (and me btw), when he started doing his ‘Southern’ accent, and assuming the flasher was Southern. That is when Kris got quiet for a moment, before saying that no, it was up north, and he believed it might have been Boston. Other than that, Kris talked a lot.

Alison, maybe he’s busy preparing his act for the NC State Fair! He’s got to do a whole show in mid-October. The NC State Fair is a pretty big deal in NC, and it’s held in Raleigh, which is really close to Chapel Hill. He probably grew up attending the fair each fall, as do most kids in the Triangle area. Must be a thrill for him to be singing there now!

I can see Adam doing the talk show circuit, and talking to the various hosts, as well as singing on the shows, but I worry that Kris won’t get the same opportunity, (unless he brings Adam with him), because of he isn’t as at ease with chatting.

You must have missed Kris’s Tonight Show interview with Jay Leno right after he won. Despite being dead-tired, he handled himself well–was engaging and displayed a dry snarky sense of humor. I don’t expect him to have a problem once he hits the interview circuit.

If Adam works with weights for the next year or so, he might have some pecs to show off too, rather than those budding moobs he has now.

At least Adam keeps people talking, which is usually better than people not talking about you, if you’re trying to promote a career in entertainment.

Frankly I’m burned out with interviews & reviews…..same old, same old – unless I get a hint from a poster that it was something funny or unique I don’t even bother anymore…………………..don’t even care which idol it’s about either.

Soon the tour will be over and at least it won’t be stuff like: “How do you feel about Paula leaving the show”, what was your defining moment on AI, who’s set is your favorite blah, blah, blah.

Part of an email from the owner of Pennyroyal, sent to those who ordered the pendant that Adam designed:

“By the end of Sunday, all of your purchases from the past 7 days will add up to an almost $30,000 donation to MusiCares! This is a cause that I am very passionate about and have supported for a long time with various designs. This is the largest one-time donation I have made so far and you all made it possible. You are helping countless people get the help they need for whatever situation they might be in. I have spoken with MusiCares numerous times this week and they are absolutely extatic about the success of this design and we are already planning more designs with other artists. ”

  • alison8701

Of all the idols, I think Anoop has the most potential of having the best body.

(I can make things about my favorite idol too.)

but he’s got the best build now– he’s the tallest and the leanest and he’s in good shape as it is. He works out every day and seems to delight in the comments about his “guns.” (he moved a lot closer to the screen when the chatters were talking about his guns and smiled. it was kind of cute and kind of eye-roll worthy). Adam seems to be going for “skinny” right now. and Kris is just too little.

I did see those and found them mostly boring, honestly, sweet and I was happy for him, but not terribly interesting. I think Kris’s best interviews are one where he’s more comfortable with the interviewer, which is why the Cantiello and Slezak ones are among his best interviews. That or he’s being interviewed with someone he feels comfortable with, like Anoop, Allison or Adam. Those are where I do see the dry wit and intelligence I know is in him. Which is why I get so frustrated with so many of his interviews because I know the guy is smart and can be funny. But too often? sigh, rote and mumbly.

Of all the idols, I think Anoop has the most potential of having the best body.

I definitely agree, Alison, although I think Adam has a great body for the look he wants and the skinny pants he favors, but Anoop needs to dress better to show off his physique. Those baggy relaxed fit jeans and sloppy t-shirts and hoodies don’t work it for him. Heck, a plaid shirt would be better than those same darn t-shirts. • ross

Since you guys are comparing Kris’s and Adam’s interview skills, I find Adam far too glib for my taste, in interviews. I like him much better when he’s just goofing around with the other idols. I wonder if anyone agrees with me.

I just find his answers like, “Every city is different and brings its own energy, so it’s hard to name a favorite,” or whatever, to be typical p.r. bullshit, and totally uninteresting. Yes, he can rattle this stuff off without even thinking, but that’s exactly what it sounds like.

Kris doesn’t always have a fast answer, but that’s exactly what I like about him. He’s sincere, not slick. So, he doesn’t always have a quick answer. Does this mean he’s a bad interview? I don’t think so. He was excellent on Leno, Kimmel, Ellen, and with Jim Cantiello and Slezak. He has a good sense of humor, isn’t full of himself, and doesn’t take himself very seriously. And he doesn’t always just talk about me me me. Most people seem to like what they see, because it’s real.

  • ilovekrisallen39

Yeah I love Kris’s interviews. I loved I think it was on Ellen when he kind of skips onto the stage. And I loved him a whole lot on Kimmel. To me his more down to earth and his so human. And you can so tell his not acting, but is very real.

  • Truthiness

ross I would answer, but my answer would probably be all fanbase warrish, so I’ll just leave it at “no,” to cover everything. And done with my hair, so I’m off.

  • ross

Yeah I love Kris’s interviews. I loved I think it was on Ellen when he kind of skips onto the stage. And I loved him a whole lot on Kimmel. To me his more down to earth and his so human. And you can so tell his not acting, but is very real.

    I agree with everything!

Kris hadn’t had a lot of experience at this stuff but he aced his interviews to the satisfaction of most people. He could have been terrible; instead, he did really well. And like I said, I don’t want to be fed a line, I like to see someone being himself, real.

I also liked it on Ellen when he did that sort of dance step coming onstage. That was awesome.

  • CindyM

Nope, don’t agree. I find it uncomfortable when Kris doesn’t answer or answers with just a “yeah” or “I don’t know.”. I feel bad for the interviewer and for Kris. I do like his interviews with people he’s comfortable with like Cantiello and Slezak, though, he’s got a dry wit that’s entertaining. I think he’ll get better. You’re a fan of his though, and I can see where you’d be more invested to wait for an answer or not find it uncomfortable. I’m not a fan per se, but I don’t find the need to tear him down over his interviewing style. I think he’ll become more accustomed to the different mediums and do well.

I don’t find Adam slick or glib, I find him entertaining and real. Adam impresses me with his intelligence and his ability to think on his feet. He obviously likes to have conversations with people and is more adept at it and at making people feel at ease with him. He’s gotten great compliments from interviewers (just listen to some of his radio and tv interviewers compliment him after the interviews) Since he’s older and more experienced than Kris, I don’t find that surprising.

  • soveryMel

Ah the Kris VS. Adam interview style. Is it wrong to like them both? Kris has some fantastic dry wit moments, where you totally see his snarkiness coming through. The Jimmy Fallon show is one of my favorite interviews with him. I think for him it makes a difference whether or not he’s vibing with the interviewer, sometimes when he’s not and he gives couple word answers again and again without elaborating, and I find that maddening because I know that he’s so much more charming than that.

And Adam could be interviewed by a wooden post and still manage to spark a vibe with his interviewer. I think other posters have said this before, he seems to instinctively mirror his interviewer and match his style to theirs, which goes a long way toward a friendly interview. And he’s such a talker, he could go on forever, and not gonna lie — I’m interested in his thoughts. I do get frustrated when he gives the “nice” answer like “every city is different, blah blah blah” but unfortunately I think he doesn’t have a choice because he realizes what a freakin microscope he’s under. Um, pages and pages of smelly-gate, anyone?

Ah, what a wonderful Top 2, I couldn’t be happier!

  • Lulu2

“No Boundaries” is very far from a great song, but it’s probably one of the best “coronation” songs, which generally stink, big time. Last year’s “Time of My Life” was atrocious. But it was also written by a fan, so it would have been a PR nightmare if it had been dropped from the tour. I have assumed–and I bet I’m right–that “No Boundaries” wasn’t dropped because it was so bad, but because Adam has been tutoring Kris on dealing with the powers that be and maybe doing a little subtle lobbying on his behalf.

  • ross

soveryMel, I have to agree with a lot of what you say. Adam has some great interview skills, sometimes. But I can tell when he’s just telling people what he thinks they want to hear, and I find that somewhat disingenuous. Maybe he shouldn’t try so hard. But then he does have his off-guard, smelly-gate type moments — which I kind of enjoy, because I think it’s less ‘Pr Adam” and more the real guy, who is very funny.

I don’t think Kris is a genius at interviews, not saying that, but the fact is he can only be himself, and anything else would be false and would appear to be just that: false. So I think he’s smart to do it just as he does.

Heh. There was also a Flashmob in Trafalgar Square today.

Thank you for that LK3! Here is another in Bremen today to “Beat It”. These are starting to make me cry. Just the fact that he was sooo loved all over the world that people are celebrating him in huge crowds. RIP Michael.

“I do like his interviews with people he’s comfortable with like Cantiello and Slezak, though, he’s got a dry wit that’s entertaining. I think he’ll get better.”

I agree. He’s been very entertaining with some of the interviewers, and I love his dry wit. He’ll get better with practice, and there will be plenty of practice coming up. So, you all have convinced me — no need to worry about Kris.

No one is stepping up for Allison, though. But, she’ll get better with the interviews, too.

If I thought Adam was great at interviews and Kris was lousy, I’d say so. I’m not representing Kris’s fanbase. Just giving my opinion.

Er, I think we’re all giving our opinions. And I wouldn’t just say that I thought that I thought Kris dull a lot of the time, just due to fanbasedom. I’ve already said when and where I have issues with Adam’s interviewing. I will say however, that the idea that someone is completely subjective about these things? is interesting. And I of course, include myself in not being able to be subjective. But than I would never claim to just be subjective.

  • Sassycatz

With the right writer, there would be a bidding war for that premise during TV pilot season with those guys. ‘Brothers Keep’ It’s 3 guys in the City.

Wait a minute…. I thought the first pair you talked about — i.e., a teacher who has a sex symbol for a brother — WAS Andrew and David Cook. Andrew is in school for education and he teaches. Futhermore, in my world, David Cook is the sex symbol, not Adam. Granted, I’ve heard absolutely nothing about Andrew having dating problems.

was simon actually singing along to sex on fire. that has to be a first. he is such a diff person on these british shows than AI.

I don’t think Simon likes us very much; we’re just money to him.

I know that Adam was the first on idol but certainly not if you count the X factor.

Nope. I do believe Simon has given a standing ovation to other Idol contestants. This issue came up this past season when the ovation occurred and diehard fans, who have been watching for years, recalled that Simon gave Clay a standing ovation at one point, but I don’t know if it was shown on the air or only reported by those who saw it. There may be others.

Cook’s brother must have been pulling his hair out (does he have a comb-over, too?)

Andrew has hair. More importantly, he has a nice cut. David could use a better hair cut.

I think this proves an earlier point that the conversation is always brought back to Adam. No one can stop talking about that boy. I guess everything does revolve around him after all.

    Not in my world.

Last year’s ‘Time of My Life’ was atrocious. But it was also written by a fan, so it would have been a PR nightmare if it had been dropped from the tour.

Time of My Life is a far better song than No Boundaries. Much easier to sing for both the performer and his fans. Also, Time of My Life was not written by a fan, but by a professional song writer who entered the AI songwriting contest in order to relaunch his career. Regie Hamm had been quite successful previous to this, but hit some hard times on account of a very ill child, who he and his wife adopted from China. I’m not sure Regie was ever a big fan of Idol, itself, although a friend of his won the AI songwriting contest the previous year and encouraged Regie to submit something in 2008. The rest is history, including the song’s status as the unofficial song of the summer Olympics.

Here you go .. Jamie Archer’s X factor audition aired tonight .. and Simon singing along to Sex On Fire ‘ ¦lol

Hmm, this guy has a lot of raw energy. I could see him doing well in the U.S., if he can get through this competition.

  • oceana

That could hurt Kris in the long run. Same for Allison. I recognize that doing good interviews is a difficult skill, (I’d fall flat on my face if I had to do it, I’m sure), but it seems like an important one for these guys.

I dunno, iirc, Kelly Clarkson, Chris Daughtry, and Carrie were all weak at interviewing, though they’re all better now that they’re more confident and secure in their standing. It was their music that made them big, not interviewing skills. Whereas Clay Aiken was an entertaining interview, he always said something funny, he got a lot of interviews and talk shows, but due to his music he didn’t go that far in his music career (fans will of course disagree), and Kellie Pickler is a fun interview but again, didn’t sell a lot of records until recently, and she’s improving at interviews too.

Bottom line, I believe that if you put out good music, the interviews don’t matter much. Look at Jason Mraz, how often have you watched his interviews? But you sure know his music. And The Fray, and many others, same thing. Kings of Leon, the Killers, Coldplay, I mean, when you hear a good song, do you think, “well wait, are they good at interviews”? No, so I don’t think the interview translates into career boosting or sales, it’s the music, it’s always been the music … imo. Musicians usually talk through their music or instruments, less than through interviews.

And when it comes to Allison, she sounds pretty goofy on twitter and in her interviews, but when she interprets a song, she’s a whole other person. And when I play a song on my ipod, it’s the record I care about, not any interviews …

  • alison8701

That’s true oceana. Brandon Flowers, lead singer of the Killers, is TERRIBLE at interviews. He’s pretty uncharismatic, nervous and jittery. Still love ‘em though. It’s really only us right now that will watch every interview or even care if it’s good or bad.

  • 123abc456

Cook’s brother must have been pulling his hair out (does he have a comb-over, too?)

David has hair but even if he didn’t he is one of the best performers out there bar none. I love this review http://www.sgn.org/sgnnews37_35/page23.cfm
from Seattle. I was there and it was a fantastic show. And David and the band brought it again. If you are anywhere in the vicinity of a David Cook and The Anthemic show go and see this band. You will not regret it.

  • isisdagmar

Um…I think that Kris can be very charming and drily funny (which he clearly is just in general) in interviews, especially when he’s comfortable with the interviewer. He can sometimes be a little monosyllabic–though again, when he’s comfortable, he’s hilarious–but he’s certainly good enough that I’m not fearing for his career, and he’ll get better, as he has already done.

Adam is definitely really good at interviews–funny, likable, conversational, and he’s very good at giving extended but coherent and interesting answers. I honestly don’t know how much difference it makes to be a good interviewee, but it’s a nice skill to have.

I think that Kris and Adam both give diplomatic answers sometimes that we can assume they don’t mean–but Kris has no poker face, so it’s generally easier for anyone watching to tell that he doesn’t mean what he’s saying if he doesn’t (like with all the nice things he said about No Boundaries). :)

It’s interesting–Adam can be both more diplomatically polished than Kris and much more bluntly honest (remembering things like their interviews with Slezak). Overall, IMO they both generally strike a good balance between being polite and being real, and they both almost always come across as genuinely very nice people, which is not to be underestimated.

But yeah, either way, I don’t think any fans of either or both need to worry about how these guys handle themselves in interviews because a) they’re fine at it and b) it’s not the be-all-end-all.

  • Truthiness

My Sreudian flip was showing. Yes I meant to say “objective,” because I don’t think any of us are, and are capable of it. And guilty as charged.

But about interviews, I agree totally with isisdagmar’s whole post about this, so I’ll just second it.

TOML wouldn’t have been pulled from the tour because by the time the tour rolled around it proved to be a popular song and was way, way past where NB got chart and sales wise. When it was sung on tour, at least based on the 2 shows I attended the crowd was enthusiastic and was singing along word for word. NB was already plummeting down the charts by the time tour started this year and the crowd did not respond well either.

No Boundaries deserves its own rung in hell for how awful it was. TOML was not quite as awful, partly because it was at least catchy, but it’s still a very, very bad song. Actually, all the coronation songs I’ve heard (I’ve been played a few) have pretty much no musical or lyrical merit. It sounds like it was nice for Cook that TOML did well, though, and it’s nice for Kris that he doesn’t have to sing NB ever again (presumably).

I dont think Kris is that bad at interviews, but sometimes he talks in the same tone that irks me because you dont know when hes excited, or tired-its all just sounds the same. Kinda like that boring professor that talks in the same tone and puts you to sleep. Other than that, I think Kris can be quite funny in his own dry sense of humor way.

  • 123abc456

Last year’s ‘Time of My Life’ was atrocious. But it was also written by a fan, so it would have been a PR nightmare if it had been dropped from the tour.

“Time Of My Life” is a very successful song. It is still being played on radio today. It is still selling if only modestly at this point. The last number I saw for it on sales was 1,210,000. Now David does not sing it because it does not fit the set list on the tour and it is not a song that he would typically do. But he always has praised the song and the songwriter. The song hit a sweet spot with some folks that is for sure. It may not be your cuppa but IMO it is far from an atrocious song. It proved all the predictions about it wrong and was a successful coronation song. It has sold the most of any Idol coronation song, it was 20 weeks on the Hot 100 chart, and was the only single to make it to the recurrent chart. So No Boundaries did not even come close to that.

I attended the Milwaukee performance Friday night, 8/28. First I’ll say all the idols sounded great! I will then give exception to Megan Joy, I liked her first song, didn’t know her 2nd song, and then I forget if she ever came on stage again???!! But of course I am a Danny fan all the way!! Milwaukee showed him the love and I am so happy for him!! I’ll give it up to Adam too, he is not my style of song and I didn’t even know the 2nd song and he sounded a bit bizarre, but Adam was loved by Milwaukee and he rocked it out!! I will say some of his pelvic moves were moves he never would’ve done on TV!! I guess I was disappointed in the way the concert goes, because I actually feel the lower of the 10 get more stage time and do more performing then the top 4. Kris allen does 3 songs at the end, that’s it, besides joining in the final song. I’ll give it up to Matt G too – rocked it out!!!! And I did not like Scott on the show, but he sounded so much better and he and Matt do 2 dual piano duets (whatever you would call that) and that was great! I loved the dance the lower 6 do, the guys were in suits, it was fantastic, I was totally impressed!! I have never been to one of the concerts, but mother in law had been to all except last years and she said this years was the best. Rock on Gokey – Rock on to all the contestants!!

It sounds like it was nice for Cook that TOML did well, though, and it’s nice for Kris that he doesn’t have to sing NB ever again (presumably).

Cook *made* that song work. By putting that raspy, world weariness to it, he gave it an adult spin that overcame that whole “magic rainbows” lyric — in a sense, he emphasized the irony of the lyric. In fact, since the song itself was written by an adult man who was rhapsodizing on how life had kicked him down and how he was looking for the silver lining. And, that these troubles were actually the time of his life, Cook did the songwriter — Regie Hamm — a deep service. As much as I love Archie — and he is a dear boy — he could never have done that. Cook sang the song as a man, giving it the necessary resonance to reflect what Hamm was actually experiencing as a man struggling with family hardships and finding hope in spite of it.

To be honest, I think Hamm recognized what Cook did for his song but then was put out that Cook didn’t want to sing it anymore because it really wasn’t his style. I think Hamm got a little bitter about that. It’s too bad. These two men really helped each other out a bit. It’s unfortunate they really haven’t met — or have they? — so they could actually learn about each other. I think they would be very sympathetic to each other, having both suffered enormous family difficulties.

Again, I didn’t watch last season so I’ve only heard this song a few times, but IMO it’s just a very bad song, with laughable lyrics. All the coronation songs I’ve heard have been terrible. Cook sings it well, it’s great for him and for the writer that it did well, but that (for me) doesn’t change the fact that it’s just not a good song. But everyone has to sing bad songs at some point in their lives, so it’s good if you can do it well–but no amount of skill or irony can overcome lyrics drenched in corn syrup.

Well, you have to read the blog about the origins of this song, which was linked on this very site:

    http://mjsbigblog.com/regie-hamm-the-story-behind-david-cooks-time-of-your-life.htm

I think it’s a song from the heart and from grief. Thank god David Cook was the one who ended up singing it. Not to be crass, but it heard the Hamms a much needed buck.

Don’t quite know how it got to be a discussion here, but I’m one of those who always liked “Time of My Life”. Originally I liked it because I connected it with that amazing moment when Cook won AI, but I realized I liked the song every time I heard Cookie sing it. I think it’s a decent song and DC made it work.

I could be sarvering this all, but I think that they moobs comments were about Adam by some, not about Kris. Kris is pretty fit. Not as ripped as Gokey’s arms seem to be, but fit. Like I said though, could be missing something. I’ve already transposed subjective and objective tonight, so clearly not the best night for the little grey cells.

No, both were accused of this, and then it became a mini-war of the moobs. Even the fittest person can be caught at a bad angle, but based on having seen many pictures of both of them in rather tight-fitting clothing (I so enjoy that they both have a penchant for that), neither has a trace of moob–Kris has gigantic pecs and Adam’s flat as a pancake.

  • jpfan

TOML is hideous piece of Velveeta however it did become a big AC hit. And it got used alot of on various TV shows, Oprah, etc. So Cook had a presence on radio before his album dropped. Always a good thing and something neither Adam or Kris have coz NB was so hideous.

Kris def does not have moobs. He’s got a pretty tight bod.

TOML won Reggie Hamm the Song of the Year honors at last years’ songwriters SESAC Awards:

The Regie Hamm-penned ‘The Time Of My Life’ beat out thousands of other song entries in the ‘Second Annual American Idol Songwriting Competition’ debuting at #3 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart making it the highest new entry on that chart for 2008. The single held the #1 position at mainstream AC Radio for 16 weeks and became the biggest selling coronation single in America Idol’s history. Hamm , who has enjoyed a successful career as a recording artist in his own right has enjoyed more than 400 cuts with over 20 of them hitting number one on the charts. Hamm also has multiple Grammy ® and Dove Award nominations as both a producer and writer.

Yes! Now that’s what I’m talking about…….earlier EVERYTHING was better….

By now they are all dead tired……….so I can’t blame them one bit for not being as spot on as they once were w/interviews, etc. If it were me in their place I’d be like *STOP* I can’t take another question just let me sing already……but knowing the business I’d suck it up & give it my best shot any way.
