“Idol” judge Cowell makes PETA finals

PETA is using the death of a dog that died in a hot car in Denver during auditions for “American Idol” to raise awareness of the danger of leaving dogs in cars on hot summer days.

A public service announcement featuring “Idol” judge Simon Cowell will run on television stations across the country, including Denver’s Fox channel, KDVR 31, which also runs “Idol.”

“Far be it from me to be critical, but I find it really appalling that this year, thousands of dogs will die from heatstroke inside parked cars,” said Cowell, who appears with his dog, Claude, in a public-service announcement shot before the Denver incident.

Chris Daughtry’s second CD isn’t bad, just more of the same

Chris Daughtry has always been a talented dude with a lousy record collection. He has a well-toned voice but wallet-chain tastes, thrusting his quavery tough-guy vocals into songs that make your mullet grow.

His sophomore album, Leave This Town, was released this week, and the 12-tracker might top the multiplatinum sales clout of his self-titled ’06 debut, the hits-aplenty platter featuring It’s Not Over, Home and then some.

‘Dance’ doesn’t miss a beat

Fox’s “So You Think You Can Dance” continues to dominate the Thursday race as only eight finalists now remain on the popular summer reality series. The skein gave Fox a narrow win over CBS, which was the leader for the night in total viewers.

“Dance” (2.5 rating/8 share in the 18-49 demo, 7 million viewers) had more than enough to defeat the night’s other reality skein, the Eye’s “Big Brother” (1.9/7, 5.5m), which fell 17% from last Thursday’s premiere. “Bones” (1.4/5, 5m) filled the 8 p.m. slot for Fox.

The ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ Results Are In, But Who Will Win?

Usually, by this point in the season of “So You Think You Can Dance,” there are at least two very clear favorites and then a few dark-horse dancers waiting in the wings. But when the top 10 performed this week, I was still absolutely stumped about who will win the title of “America’s Favorite Dancer.”

That Movieline article is crazee. Matt and Anoop have the best taste in movies (Swingers is one of my all time favs), Adam’s choice is so predictable I’m LMAO,
Allison and Danny both picked cartoons. Whaat. And Danny and the hot intern was also pretty funny.

Everyone revealed themselves perfectly in their comments and choices.

  • TWI

The Tulsa Today article talks about Kris exclusively. Interesting! We’ll be there at the BOK Center on 24th – me sporting black/blue and a dash of glitter to support the Alien. I’ll make sure the husband is wearing a bit of black and blue too (hold the glitter though).

Maybe Adam fans will be in the minority at the BOK Center, for once. Hard to imagine though. Getting excited now!!!!

  • Squirrely

Matt chose my favorite movie and Adam chose the movie with the guy I have the biggest crush on JRM. Adam has referred to this movie many times so I’m not surprised it’s his favorite.

I may be alone in this but I find Susan Boyle to be overrated.

As for Brooke White I have never heard her perform before, but I listened to her version of Use Somebody and I really like it.

  • will

There was already some discussion about this in the Ontario concert thread, but I just want to point out this hilarious blooper in the Tulsa Today article:

One of the world’s leading viola players, Allen is also described as a musician that knows what to do with Mozart. ‘That is really part of his overall talent. He can pick up anything and play or sing it,’ Hatch said.

:doh_tb: Lest there be any confusion, Kris Allen is a very talented fellow, but he is not — let me repeat not — one of the world’s leading viola players. Thank you.

  • Q3

Yes, I think that Kris is the “headliner” for Tulsa — which is still the “least sold out” show of the tour. I’m surprised because the Little Rock venue is small and completely sold out and Memphis is close to sold out. Tulsa is the next closest show for Arkansas fans, it’s only 3-1/2 hours from Conway.

The Tulsa Today article is a bit mixed up.

One of the world’s leading viola players, Allen is also described as a musician that knows what to do with Mozart. ‘That is really part of his overall talent. He can pick up anything and play or sing it,’ Hatch said.

I’m sure Kris can play Mozart but one of the world’s leading viola players!

From Kris’ Wiki: He began playing the viola in elementary school and went on to play the instrument in the Mills University Studies High School orchestra, eventually winning a spot in the Arkansas all-state orchestra.

Jamers Hatch is Orchestra Director at Mills University Studies High School and the Conductor of the Arkansas Youth Symphony Orchestra. He is also an adjunct music instructor at UCA, in Conway.

I guess that’s one for Kris’ scrapbook.

    PE.com review of the show

It’s no surprise that Adam Lambert brought the theatrics to the table, but he wailed out a great version of “Whole Lotta Love” but then gave the weakest vocal performance of the night with a cover of Muse’s “Starlight.” He recovered with “Mad World” and some fog machines. I also loved how he kind of thumbed his nose at what “Idol” is supposed to be about and did some seductive dance moves and ended with a David Bowie medley.

First time I see a reviewer criticizing Lambert for his vocals, feels kind of weird lol.

I don’t think this is weird. Starlight is a very different song and Adam goes in and out of his falsetto. For people who like their music “straight up” I am sure this sounds really strange…especially if they are not familiar with Muse and their music. Besides “the screeching” and Adam’s infamous high tenor are not to everyone’s liking.

Allen, who was born in Jacksonville, AR, married his beautiful wife Katy in September 2008, immediately following the conclusion of this year’s American Idol live two hour season finale on FOX, when Allen was crowned the 2009 winner.

WHAT?!? Is it amateur hour at the Tulsa paper? This article is filled with misspellings, inaccuracies, and misquotes.

Base player? You mean bass player?

How could Kris get married in Sept 2008, immediately following the 2009 finale?

One of the world’s leading viola players? I think she was trying to quote an article I read a while back that said Kris was one of the state’s leading high school orchestral musicians. The Mozart quote referred to his ability to interpret classical music in the right style for the period. I’m sure Kris is a fine violist as he made his All-State orchestra, but please. Proof-read your articles before you post them, Tulsa.

This is all kinds of nonsensical.

  • colette

LOL on being “one of the world’s leading viola players” — I’m sure Kris got a giggle out of that gaff!

I think maybe the writer meant his former teacher was the expert? It coulda been just bad syntax. Lotta that going around!

But it was interesting nonetheless, hearing from his teacher. The thing that stands out for me is his remark that Kris is a very quick study. All season, it was clear he could take what was thrown at him or make his own musical choices with ease. And I’m not surprised that he was able to shift gears and work up something else that was better than “NB” on tour.

While a lot of AI contestants complain that they have to learn new songs really fast, and it’s difficult to get the lyrics down (on the show), the only time Kris bitched about that was with “NB”. And who could blame him? The melody & lyrics would stump any singer at first, they were so awkward and lame….

Also, despite that crapfest tune, I’m feeling a little sorry for Kara. Welcome to the land of creepy tabloids, where your husbands’ indiscretions wind up as a photo spread in Star. Stuff like that has broken up many a celebrity couple, but I hope it was just a momentary lapse before getting hitched….

Makes me feel a bit old but I went to college in the early 70′s in Delaware and Bruce Springsteen was just one of many bar bands — a really great bar band. I saw them literally dozens of times but I really don’t recall that anyone thought they would be so big. They played the same clubs as Jimmy Thackery and the Nighthawks and George Thorogood and the Delaware Destroyers (“Bad to the Bone”). Bruce Springsteen finally broke through in 1974 — and eventually became huge. It sure didn’t happen overnight, they even had two albums that didn’t sell all that well in the early 70′s. So, I am certain that a lot of people passed up chances to see Bruce.

In Adam’s case, I once passed up a chance to see the Zodiac Show at a time when I now know that Adam performed. Yes, now one of my biggest regrets! Your post makes me wonder if I would have immediately known that Adam was something special. I like to think that I would have, since he had me with his audition clip — but I wonder.

I figured that would be coming. They are uber-extremists that are on the fringest of fringes.

Hopefully it won’t go beyond them though to mainstream conservative groups.

but then gave the weakest vocal performance of the night with a cover of Muse’s ‘Starlight.’

I just can’t take a review like this seriously. Really. Don’t like Adam’s voice? Sure, of course. But even if you don’t like him, one should, if one wants to be taken seriously as a music reviewer, acknowledge he has a strong voice with good control and a good octave range. Though admittedly, he doesn’t utilize his lower range as much as I would like. I have heard on the YouTubes, however, so I know he has it.

Now some may, and many don’t like what Adam does with his voice or way he ulitizes that range, he does seem most comfortable in the higher end, or just prefers it. Like using his falsetto a lot in Starlight, is a choice he’s made that some might not like. Totally get that.

But vocally weak? And weaker than EVERYone else? Including Sarver and Megan? Now my respecting your musical opinion has just gone poof! away.

That Tulsa Today article had so many errors in it. Do they not fact check or copy edit articles before submitting them anymore? I know a lot of newspapers have laid off tons of people, but c’mon.

That said, I’d love to have Kris break out the viola sometime just to see him play it. He jokes about it, but if he made the All-State orchestra, he must play it very well.

  • Tess

Has there been any news about what Adam was doing with Meatloaf at Rob Cavallo’s house on Wednesday

Unless I am mistaken the meeting between Meatloaf and Adam (when the video was filmed) occurred weeks ago after the finals of AI. I don’t think that there was another revisit this last Wednesday, though I could be totally wrong.

The Tulsa article is rather amateur in the writing.
There is however a link to an interview of one of Kris’s friends that is interesting

Heh….Paul is actually older than me and I’m ancient. Interesting that an old grandpa still has fans….but then Bruce is a Grandpa and so are most of the Rock Gods from the 70s. Time passes without realizing it…..Whooo.

I’m sure he’s no slouch on the viola. The audition repertoire for making an All-State or All-Region orchestra is very challenging – major & minor scales, exercises, solo rep. Everyone plays the same material except the solo is up to the musician. You have to be a very, very competent player to make it.

Somewhere, I read that he plans to play viola on his album, which would be pretty cool.

the anti-gay protesters make me sick, really sick.
its not about a sexual preference at these concerts, its about the entertainment.
I really hope that one day they will realize what they are doing is wrong :(
    but i doubt it.

Also, that movie thing was hilarious. haha.
Its stuff like that coming out of Adams mouth that makes me love him.
I wouldnt mind seeing that movie now, i have not heard of it till now, it looks kinda weird but good.

The AI fan cheat sheet guide for reacting to reviews (based on 8 seasons of evidence):

Reviewer praises the idol you like and nails those you don’t= good reviewer, unbiased, insightful

Reviewer snarks or says something less than positive about your idol = can’t take them seriously as a reviewer, biased, poor excuse for a journalist, how the hell did they even get a job???

Interestingly, depending on the year, there are people who hate a reviewer one year and then love them the next, or vice versa.

    LOL

  • Lu

Regarding the PE.com article – I’m not a fan of Adam’s voice at all but I will not deny the talent. He’s got talent for sure… I just don’t appreciate his singing style very much.

Funny thing about singing style… I don’t appreciate Adam’s style but I’ve been posting with several Adam fans in the MJ threads about how much we love his music. :)

I just realized that Crash Kings is opening for David Cook for a bunch of concerts. New group but pretty incredible. I wonder how that got arranged.

DC has mentioned in several articles/interviews that he is a big fan of Crash Kings. I’m thinking he has some clout when it comes to who he wants for his opening bands.

Still hoping to see some video on last night’s ass slap (which evidently came after DSB was over as everyone was walking off the stage) and the silly string spraying. Just wondering — how long does silly string last before it decomposes? – because that could be a cool tour souvenir — a piece of silly string shot at me by Kris Allen or Matt Giraud!

I seriously love this group of Idols — they are so goofy and appear to be having so much fun not only with each other, but with the fans.

tell you what, YOU’RE AN IDIOT and you need to stand in front of a mirror and start moaning, crying and criticizing YOURSELF!!

Vanessa Franko- I laugh at you!! Weakest performance of the night?!! I laugh because of how ignorant that statement is! Maybe it was a performance you didn’t personally enjoy, but to claim it was a weak performance makes me laugh

You need to feel like an idiot. You’re the only person who has EVERY said such a thing from AI on tv to last night’s show. Even critics who prefer other performers give the vote to The Gifted Adam Lambert.

To avoid further embarrassment to yourself you need to remove your stupid review.

way better than some karaoke-idol on the show.i hope you keep this review, because your review really can show people how stupid you are!!!

it’s only a few persons… just ignore them. This is what I do. They seem always more important than they are because media ALWAYS focus on controversy type of stuff

  • Susan M.

Okay, excuse me while I go get Vanessa Franko in a figurative headlock and beat her about the head and neck. Though the Press Enterprise is my home town paper and I have mad respect for it, I’ve never got Franko, first of all, she looks all of 17 in her photo and started off as a blogger (still thought she was just a blogger), but now is the official music reviewer.

I don’t read her a lot, but her tastes seem to run very indie rock. She did have her facts wrong in yesterday’s piece saying that “Queen wanted to have Lambert front the band,” which, of course, Adam has repeatedly said was merely a rumor. Fact check, Vanessa.

I just saw the commercial for “Flash Forward!” Yay! And though I totally know it could have been a music licensing company that chose the music, I’d like to think it was creator David Goyer, who I know KNOWS his music, that picked Adam’s “Mad World” as the shows theme.

Yep, that pretty much proves my point from a few posts up. *Sigh* Why people get so bent out of shape over a simple opinion or comment that they start totally abusing a complete stranger online is unreal. The woman didn’t like Starlight and thought it was the weakest of the night. Big deal. Nitpicking her, insulting her, and otherwise acting like an overinvested psycho makes me wonder how in hell those thin skinned people tolerate criticism directed at them in their REAL lives if they can’t handle mild criticism of a stranger.

(Unless they’ve totally abandoned their real lives and just spend their time on the computer obsessing over various AIers…)

sorry for the double post above — something was weird with trying to post, tech-wise, on that comment. and there’s even better video of Sir Paul on youtube now. My fave is him doing “I Saw Her Standing There” with hometown NYC hero, Billy Joel.

Yup, Paul’s a grandpa and in his 60s now. Who cares? He’s ever-youthful, and carrying the torch for the glory that was/is The Beatles, the Shakespeares of rock music. No one, IMO, can ever touch them. Paul Newman was a hunk in his 70s. Ray Charles could slay you up until the end. This is what separates the great from the good.

Paul played 30 songs (including Wings & newer stuff)! When was the last time you saw a rock star do that in concert?

  • Mtlfan

You had me excited there for a second, but the solo in the middle of that track is a cello, not a viola. Dang it.

oh crap… i should i’ve listen to a piece of viola before writing… I knew the viola is the middle register between the violin and the cello. But you’re right, it’s a cello.
    …sorry…false alarm .. :)
This said I’d really like to hear him play. I like that Kalan Porter (one winner of Canadian Idol) plays violin in concert. Hope Kris does the same in the future.

  • stargirl

i think its fine for critics to not like Adam. Its bound to happen every idol gets a bad review.Adam isnt immune to it.

  • tiger92

I keep seeing comments about Kris doing a solo with his viola. Does anyone know of a pop or rock song that has a viola solo? My daughter has played the violin for 8 years and we typically hear solos by violins and cellos. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a viola solo…especially in a pop/rock song. Please correct me if I’m wrong!

  • SarahP

Some of these comments are really nasty. It’s sad because she wrote a very positive review of Adam overall and gets bashed because she didn’t like one song of his.

i’m losing hope in humanity! why do people have to get that nasty?

  • cookcricket

Hypothetically speaking, what if Adam is this next big thing, it might be a huge regret to know a person had the opportunity to see him live on stage, but instead the person decided to go to the bathroom.

LOL, actually that might be a kind of funny story to tell. :) You know, “I came this close…” Murphy’s law.

I’m wondering if the PE.com writer was referring to Adam’s “Starlight” in the context of his own set? I clicked on the HQ vid from last night, and I’ve personally heard better vocals from Adam. After all she said a lot of great things about Adam overall.

  • Squirrely

i think its fine for critics to not like Adam. Its bound to happen every idol gets a bad review.Adam isnt immune to it.

    Agree with you SarahP.

  • Eileen99

I keep seeing comments about Kris doing a solo with his viola. Does anyone know of a pop or rock song that has a viola solo?

Sadly, I don’t know of any – you generally hear the cello & violin used. There hasn’t been a whole lot of classical solo rep written for the viola, unlike the cello and violin, but if you do some online research, you’ll get links to some beautiful concerti written for the instrument. It doesn’t surprise me one bit that Kris plays viola as opposed to other string instruments. Violists are generally not flashy, but low-key personalities who enjoy the harmonies and don’t mind not being in the spotlight.

I’m betting, though, Kris will be the first to have a viola solo on his album.

  • Ashley

I know plenty of people that dont like Adam at all, its just a matter of opinion and taste. Maybe its because i live in the south, or maybe not. I would like to think not, maybe i just need new friends lol jk.

Adam is a very intense performer, some people cant stand his voice, dancing, or the way he acts outside of performing. Everyone is different. I have a friend who would turn off her TV every time Adam would come on the screen because she disliked him so much.

I love everything about him, or at least everything i know about him, but that is just me. Adam is sure to get a few not so supportive reviews every now and then. Adam has had many negative things said about him, i dont think he takes everything to heart, and with so much love out there for him he shouldn’t.

He is a star, and he knows it.

  • dhunken

Regarding the PE.com article-Yes people are entitled to opinions, just as I am entitled to disagree. I felt her critique was a back handed slight at Adam. If she had said I don’t like his take on the song, or his interpretation was the weakest of the night I would have agreed that is her impression. To say he had the weakest vocals of the night, IMHO, negated any positive view she gave of him. She leaves the feeling that Adam is inconsistent and not so professional. Which no one else even his harshest critiques has ever accused him.

To put this is some perspective it would be like her reviewing Kris and saying he did this song great and love this song but on this song he played the guitar and piano like a 3rd rate amateur and gave the worst performance of the night. It would be her opinion, but nobody would buy it. Kris can play the guitar and piano fantastically. Kris fans and I believe Adam fans would criticizes that kind of review on Kris. It just does not hold water in any shape matter or form.

But than again this is my opinion, so I guess that means just as much as hers. Not to much. :bye_tb:

  • Mtlfan

The only logic I can derive from Franko is that she did mean “of his set.” And yes, I’m a HUGE Adam fan, who was there last night and there is just no way ‘“ all musical tastes, styles, genres, opinions aside ‘“ no hearing person alive could say it was the weakest … I can’t even say it.

Hate to throw poor Megan under the bus, but I really felt for her last night, she was completely out of place. My friend and I, like many, many others, kept looking at each other and wincing visibly for her. It was painful, I’m sorry.

  • Eileen99

Hey, I spoke to soon, Tiger – Kansas’ Dust in the Wind contains a viola solo. Now I need to find a link.

  • Heart

I finally heard the Adam’s Mad World for ABC’s Flash Forward commercial during the British Open!

It was a long commercial that started with the haunting piano notes from the beginning of the song, and continued on during the commerical, then ended with Adam’s haunting vocals from the end of the studio version. Beautiful!

Maybe that’s the secret soundtrack that he’s working on that he mentioned during an LA interview, although I would rather it be from a cool movie soundtrack!

  • Niall

Regarding the PE.com article-Yes people are entitled to opinions, just as I am entitled to disagree. I felt her critique was a back handed slight at Adam.

There was nothing backhanded about it. She flat out said she felt it was the weakest vocal. I personally wouldn’t agree but I wouldn’t attack the woman on some visceral, irrational level like what is happening in her comment section.

If she had said I don’t like his take on the song, or his interpretation was the weakest of the night I would have agreed that is her impression. To say he had the weakest vocals of the night, IMHO, negated any positive view she gave of him.

It only negates the positive if thin skinned fans let it.

What is becoming clear is Adam has a fairly vocal segment of his fanbase, much like Clay unfortunately, who believe he should always get a positive review, or, if the review isn’t going to be 100% positive, it must be done in a tippy toe, apologetic way. As much as it appears there is lip service paid to the idea that Adam isn’t everybody’s cup of tea, when the rubber meets the road ala that particular review, some folks are totally unable to accept that reality.

  • Lu

Wow – just read some of the comments aimed at that reviewer that dared not like Starlight. I cannot believe how the piling on has continued when her overall review was very positive. She liked him! She just didn’t like that one song – so what?!? She’s allowed to not like it. Geesh – over invested idol fans can be a scarey lot.

  • Niall

So it sounds like you are tying to attack me based on my opinion. I don’t think MJ allows that on her blog. Personally I don’t apperciate it. I did not attack you please don’t do it to me.

It wasn’t directed at you. It was a general statement about those on the reviewers blog comment section.

  • wellhesback

Someone upthread said they thought “Mad World” should be in a soundtrack. – It is on the “Donnie Darko” movie soundtrack, you know. Not Adam singing, but same arrangement.

  • Eileen99

Tiger: You should also introduce your daughter to the “rock band” Apocalyptica – they are on the Jive label (with Kris), and are a classically-trained Finnish cello quartet that does rock music. My fave is the album they did a while back covering all Metallica rock songs – it’s totally epic; I listen to that CD all the time.

  • https://twitter.com/draddee Sunn

It’s fine that she didn’t like Adam’s vocals o Starlight. Muse, as mind-blowingly awesome as they are, are definitely not everybody’s cup of tea. She didn’t like the octave changes in the song, and that’s fine.

But to be fair to the woman, Starlight, to my ear, remains Adam’s weakest vocal of his set, perhaps that’s what she meant to say. He does get it right sometimes, but last night wasn’t one of them. It’s such a difficult song to sing, written specifically for the Bellamy range. And Matt Bellamy has a voice and a range that would easily rival if not better Adam’s.

Saying that though, I would also like to add, that Adam’s weakest vocal is still the best vocal of the night, imho.

It’s her opinion and she has a right to it. She stated it frankly and without snark or condescension, and this Adam fanatic appreciates that.

    Niall
What is becoming clear is Adam has a fairly vocal segment of his fanbase, much like Clay unfortunately

This particular strawman is getting pretty frayed. All you need to do is go back a couple on this blog to a reviewer who knocked Kris’ performance to find that both fan camps hate to see their favorite abused.

  • Susan M.

@Mtlfan, I sent it to MJ this morning. She’s probably pretty busy. It should be coming up soon. Funny, I agreed with Sophie pretty much point by point.

  • Truthiness

Reviewer snarks or says something less than positive about your idol = can’t take them seriously as a reviewer, biased, poor excuse for a journalist, how the hell did they even get a job???

This isn’t why I can’t, and don’t take that part of the review seriously. It has nothing to do with not liking my fave or being snarky to them. It’s that she said that Adam was vocally weak, which is just taken by itself, not something that holds a lot of validity to me. Not liking his tone, his interpretations, song choices? All perfectly valid. Saying that he doesn’t hit his notes, that he doesn’t sustain them, that he isn’t singing in key, these are things that make a performance vocally weak. And Adam rarely displays them, though he has of course. But much less than the other contestants with whom he tours. That is even putting aside that people like Megan and Sarver, at the very least, have weak voices, so it’s hard to take as valid that Adam was vocally weaker than them.

So when a reviewer says something like that, yep, it means I won’t view it as credible. It’s like saying Maria Callas was vocally weaker than Billie Holiday. Uh yeah, no. I happen to prefer Billie Holiday over Maria Callas, but I would never claim that she was vocally stronger than Maria Callas.

Some of these comments are really nasty. It’s sad because she wrote a very positive review of Adam overall and gets bashed because she didn’t like one song of his.

On the other hand, these people also miss the point and are having an emotional, and uncalled for, response, albeit to a very stupid statement. I wish people wouldn’t feel the need to get personal and insult the reviewer. So unnecessary. Call into question someone’s criteria for reviewing? Sure, be personally mean to them? Rude and invalidates your response.

  • Susan M.

Someone upthread said they thought ‘Mad World’ should be in a soundtrack. – It is on the ‘Donnie Darko’ movie soundtrack, you know. Not Adam singing, but same arrangement.

Yeah, that’s pretty much an accepted fact, Adam credited the Gary Jules “Donnie Darko” version repeatedly as his arrangement. But the Adam version is being used in the commercials for “Flash Forward,” a new series (that looks extremely cool) on ABC. And it IS Adam’s version, not the Gary Jules version.

This makes me so warm inside because I went to college with the show’s creator and I know he is brilliant and he definitely knows music, so if it was Goyer that chose the song (sometimes it is an unrelated company that puts the songs on movie trailers), I would be stoked.

  • Lu

I just saw the commercial for ‘Flash Forward!’ Yay! And though I totally know it could have been a music licensing company that chose the music, I’d like to think it was creator David Goyer, who I know KNOWS his music, that picked Adam’s ‘Mad World’ as the shows theme.

Do we have any information that Adam’s “Mad World” is really “the show’s theme”? If not, it’s possible that the song is just being used in the commercial, and it won’t be used in the show at all. We’ll just have to wait and see. But it’s nice he’s getting some airplay.

  • Susan M.

@Will, no, we don’t know ‘“ well, I don’t anyway. That’s why I said, “It could have been a musical licensing company,” which is very often the case and it has nothing to do with the show. Some random company is contracted and they choose the music to go with movie trailers. If they do the same for TV shows, I’m not positive.

Then again, there are creators like Abrams who I’m pretty sure demands control over these things. Or it could have been an executive at ABC, but it’s interesting to note that it is an ABC show and this piece of music was created on a FOX show, so it’s not like they would have had any licensing rights to it. Seems like a deliberate choice to me. YMMV.

  • Q3

Does anyone have a link to the commercial with Adam singing Mad World for Flash Forward. I can not find it.

It was only shown in movie theater commercial and is not used in the online promo.

  • Susan M.

@dhunken, I checked the abc.com Web site, but in that commercial, they don’t have the music. It ran during the British Open today and apparently it’s running in movie theaters. Another strange point, ABC is touting its “ABC Music Lounge,” where they showcase all music related to the shows, I guess.

What is becoming clear is Adam has a fairly vocal segment of his fanbase, much like Clay unfortunately

People who have given negative reviews of Kris, or people who were even perceived to have given negative reviews of Kris, like Brian Mansfield, have also been bashed as well. None of us know or can say what percentage of his fanbase they make up. The same for Adam or anyone. Eh. Nature of the beast and I don’t judge any fanbase by it’s crazoids.

So this time it’s the PE.com lady to tangle with the crazoids in one of the AI fanbases, if someone gives Kris a review that has a part as equally questionable as this lady’s, then no doubt the vocal part of Kris’s fanbase will say something and not all of them will be nice when they do so. I of course, wish that none of them would do so. So uncalled for to be rude. Keep it to the substance of your issue with their review and move on. Or just ignore it. It’s just one person’s opinion after all. Personally attacking only hurts your case.

Watch the British Open Golf Tourney tomorrow at dawn on ABC and you’ll probably get to see the commercial. You don’t hear Adam’s voice but for about 10 seconds….but is unmistakably Adam.

Reviews…..if a reviewer opens up their review for comments then they better be ready to take the heat. I guess there were enough VERY ANGRY Kris fans after the first show that reviewers actually changed their reviews mid day.

Review “comments” are usually pretty OTT because the “nice” thing about the Internet is basically total anonymity and someone can say whatever they damn well please. And it is a commenters chance to let it all hang out….something few of us get to do in real life situations. Ask Slezak about comments, that guy has been blown to bits (euphemistically) over and over again through the years. And he is still hanging in there and still dancing to his own drummer.

If you are going to put your name on a blog review you are setting yourself up for all the fan crazys out there. I am sure all of the reviewers are glad that Megan doesn’t have a lot of over invested fans…these reviewers took a lot of hits last year when they gave Ramiele nothing but bad reviews. Isn’t it funny that almost every year there is one top tenner who really never connects during the entire tour, and it has to be a very hard thing for them, money not withstanding. Ramiele pretty much “gave up” after a dozen performances and she was just a little robot on that stage…hope Megan doesn’t end up in the same place.

@dhunken, this isn’t the commercial I saw, where Adam sings the last notes at the end, but here’s a tease: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6oCZ8WDa3c&feature=related

Mad World, indeed, this person filmed a commercial on his TV (low quality), posted it on YouTube, and I’m watching it. What?

On another note, I flove Joseph Fiennes and he looks like he’s going to be GREAT in this show.

I keep seeing comments about Kris doing a solo with his viola. Does anyone know of a pop or rock song that has a viola solo? My daughter has played the violin for 8 years and we typically hear solos by violins and cellos. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a viola solo’ ¦especially in a pop/rock song. Please correct me if I’m wrong!

I can’t think of any viola-only solos, but of course many pop songs have used string-quartet accompaniment. In keeping with our Paul McCartney theme, the viola is actually quite prominent in this tune you may have heard once or twice:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=COLbULs08EQ

Violists are generally not flashy, but low-key personalities who enjoy the harmonies and don’t mind not being in the spotlight.

Yes Eileen99, I was a violist for many many years, and you are correct, that describes me to a tee!

I don’t think this is true, at least not to the same degree.
Look at the Mercury News review which was pretty much the hardest on all the idols except Adam.

Most of the comments are not from fans of the other idols bashing the writer but from Adam fans congratulating him because he wrote the “truth” and being condescending to the other idols.

For the best and the worst, Adam has by far the craziest fans of all this year.

I’ve read the tour reviews posted here and they’ve been generally very positive to Adam. Many have said he was the deserving winner not Kris.

This reviewer basically disliked one song and is still getting the bejesus kicked out of her by overinvested fans. So yeah, I think the Adam fans are showing some extra thin skin here. You’d think that since he’s going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread, he could survive one negative comment.

But I guess in their minds, he can’t. All the defensiveness does is turn normal folk off. At the worst, it turns the fans and their Idol into a joke.

  • Tess

For the best and the worst, Adam has by far the craziest fans of all this year.

    “I resemble that remark” Groucho.

ME too. My kids just think I’m crazy…regardless. I guess its good to know that Adam is the cause.

  • jpfan

I can’t generalize about fan bases but if 99% of Adam’s reviews are positive, I’m a little surprised his fans can’t ignore the 1% that aren’t. So that does make them seem a little “out there” so to speak. They need to toughen up abit since not every living human will dig Adam.

The tradition is Idolville is the more protective, overinvested and defensive the fans, the more Claymatish they are. Which is not a compliment.

Here’s a funny video created by a (potty-mouthed) teenage girl who got to meet Kris and Adam at the Galpin Ford event yesterday. It starts off with just her talking, but keep watching’ ¦there is video from the event!

If we have learned one thing from this season of American Idol, it should be not to generalize.

Regarding the reviews, it the reviewers don’t want to inspire thought and discussion based on their opinions, why are they even bothering to write anything?

No a poster on the previous page just said she saw a new ad on TV that features Adam’s vocals too.

Oh, I’ve just seen the version with no Adam and today saw the 15 sec. promo with the Mad World sample, but no Adam vocal.

The movie commercial version had Mad World with the vocal for the whole commercial and it was at least 30 secs.

  • BestAI

I think it is a little surprising to hear anyone actually saying one of Adam’s songs is the worst vocals of the show. It would be different if a writer said she didn’t care for it or even saying he sounded bad. But it is very strong to say it was the worst.

  • Q3

Thanks for posting the Bowie video link. It is the best Bowie video — close with great sound. And it captures both Adam getting stuck in his jacket and the famous “bitches” line. Love it.

Regarding Vanessa Franko’s review which contained this:

It’s no surprise that Adam Lambert brought the theatrics to the table, but he wailed out a great version of “Whole Lotta Love” but then gave the weakest vocal performance of the night with a cover of Muse’s “Starlight.” He recovered with “Mad World” and some fog machines. I also loved how he kind of thumbed his nose at what “Idol” is supposed to be about and did some seductive dance moves and ended with a David Bowie medley.

    Today, she posted this:

Also, Adam’s set was a lot of fun. Granted, I don’t think “Starlight” by Muse was the best choice for him. I thought the key was too high and I didn’t think it showed off his voice as well as it could have. Maybe it was because of where I was sitting in the arena, but it didn’t work for me. And quite frankly, his performance of “Whole Lotta Love” was my favorite of the whole night, followed by his duet with Allison on “Slow Ride.”

Now, all of you Adam fans out there, I think the rest of his set was really spectacular and I think of all the Idols, he’s the one who could be filling Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario years from now.

Now, maybe I’m a bit stupid — but there is a lot of difference between writing that Starlight was “the weakest vocal performance of the night” and today’s comment that she thought the key was too high and it didn’t show off his voice as well as it could have.

There were 40 comments on the original post — 39 disagreeing with her opinion about Starlight and one about Adam fans. And the vast majority of the comments were not very harsh. Is that really enough to make a reviewer retract her original opinion? I respect reviewers who write what they believe and then stick to that opinion, even if I disagree with them. I even respect reviewers who admit they were wrong. But, this kind of semi-retraction is something I can’t respect.

  • DallasGlambert

Some of you seem to know the music business really well. Does Adam get any cut from the Mad World song on iTunes, or from say the TV commercial? Is it 19 that decides what he can do or not do? Just curious, but I sure hope he does. I feel sure that he has been or will be approached with a clothing line or makeup line or something outside the music business. Wonder if that is all his or again does 19 get a cut. Probably stupid questions but I have no clue how all of that works.

  • Niall

Now, maybe I’m a bit stupid ‘” but there is a lot of difference between writing that Starlight was ‘the weakest vocal performance of the night’ and today’s comment that she thought the key was too high and it didn’t show off his voice as well as it could have.

Her clarification made perfect sense to me and, in fact, was what I suspected she meant all along. When a person is trying to sum up their thoughts in a short blog entry, sometimes the reader needs to use some logic and reason and critical thinking skills of their own.

I think there are weaker performances on the tour right now than “Starlight,” but if SHE was gauging it to be the weakest simply by the fact that she felt it was the least suited to him in terms of the key and showcasing his strengths (as opposed to her believing that the songs the other idols were doing suiting them even if they aren’t naturally as good as Adam), then that seems perfectly reasonable and, again, no reason to go off on her like she just personally insulted somebody’s own mother.

  • adamland

In Adam’s case, I once passed up a chance to see the Zodiac Show at a time when I now know that Adam performed. Yes, now one of my biggest regrets! Your post makes me wonder if I would have immediately known that Adam was something special. I like to think that I would have, since he had me with his audition clip ‘” but I wonder.

@Q3 – maybe you would have or not. I saw him in Wicked and thought he was out of this world but never imagined that he could perform like a rock/pop star to the degree that he is during this Idol tour. With Citizen Vein you were struck by his voice and looks but still it wasn’t stunningly obvious what he was capable of. His performances at the Upright Cabaret and Zodiak were very, very good but really only gave a few clues to the caliber of his performances on this Idol tour.

Even his friends were surprised on Thursday night and his ex Brad was reduced to being stunned and speechless. I don’t think anyone knew he had this type performance inside of him waiting to be unleashed except Adam himself.

First off Q3 you are amazing at finding information and facts like no one else I know. Thank you for you. Second I agree with your assessment of the two different post by her.

Even though in the 2nd post she obviously still did not like the way Adam sang the Muse song, I would not have had a “protective” reaction and have disagreed with her as much as I did had this been the original post.

Side note, what I find amusing is that some of the people who criticized and attacked those who did not agree with the Reviewer did so by the same rudeness and inappropriate remarks as the people they were criticizing. It is a Mad World.

I’m sorry but Adam fans aren’t the only ones who lash out at writers and bloggers for making negative remarks about their favorites. Kris fans were all over that review from San Jose that dogged him last weekend, and when they got annoyed at Lyndsey Parker for bringing up Adam so much in her interview with Kris, she got bombarded on Twitter. Also, Adam’s friend Alisan Porter attended the concert at Staples this week, and she made a few comments on Twitter that were perceived as slams against Kris. She also got attacked (I think it was mostly Kris/Kradam fans from ontd_ai), so much that she finally spoke up to defend herself.

Both guys, and I’m sure the other Idols too, have fans who will defend them against even what seems like the tiniest slight.

  • Niall

Both guys, and I’m sure the other Idols too, have fans who will defend them against even what seems like the tiniest slight.

All of them do, it happens every year and it is totally ridiculous for people to get that defensive about a total stranger. In Adam’s case he seems almost destined to be an A list major star and 99% of the reviews are overwhelmingly positive. That is what makes the overprotective, rude, over the top insulting reaction to this poor blog writer particularly strange. I’m not entirely sure what battle they think needs to be fought and won considering Adam has it made in the shade as far as his future career.

I could almost (almost!) see why a Megan Joy or Sarver fans would eventually get sick of middling or poor reviews and go off on somebody. I wouldn’t agree with it but at least there would be some rationale to the level of frustration.

  • star

I tunes…..Adam gets a royalty on all songs he recorded for AI that are and have been on sale at I tunes. He also got paid for participating on the show….so much per episode. He also got paid for being on the Ford commercials. He gets paid for going on tour which includes the press and fan meet and greets. He gets residual payment for everytime his voice is heard on a commercial where Mad World is played. He probably got paid for his 20/20 interview and definitely for his Rolling Stone Cover. He owns his likeness so if it is used in a print or media advertisement he gets paid.

He got paid for performing on the media tour after the final…and for his on-air interviews including Slezak at EW.

He, like the rest of the Idols don’t work for free. I’m not sure but I think they start getting paid at the Top 12 (13). Before that, all expenses are picked up by AI which probably included a hefty per diem.

If someone knows more, or if I’ve messed this up…apologies in advance.

You’re not being stupid, she amended her earlier stupid statement. Sorry, but that statement was dumb. Her clarification I utterly have zero problem with and if that’s what she meant to say, than that’s what she should have said. But that’s not what she said. She made a sweeping statement that didn’t put it into the context of ‘Adam’s worst song,’ or ‘not the song best for Adam,’ she specified it was a vocal issue, she further said it was the worst of the night, therefore including the vocals of everyone else. That is a sweeping and again, technically, wrongheaded statement to make. She should have been clearer from the beginning. As someone who is writing a review, she should realize better than most, words have meaning.

People were telling Alisan to go die in a fire. And yes, enough negative Tweets that she had to address and in fact attempt to backpedal. Just like this reviewer did about Adam. Funny how similiar that is. And yes, Lyndsey Parker got tons of negative stuff from Kris fans, again, so much so that she felt the need to try and apologize/justify it. Again, seems so simliar.

I maintain it’s impossible to make sweeping statements about fanbases based on random, subjective events. I think instead it’s a fair assesment to say that AI traditionally generates very intense fan reactions and fanbases, and like all fanbases, and indeed humanity, an unknown number of them are nuts and/or jerks.

  • pjd

While I certainly don’t believe fans should make personal attacks on the author of a review, by publishing it and having a comments/feedback area they should at least be aware they may get that response. I think the OTT cyber attack by Kris’ fans on Adam’s friend Alison based on her twitter Thursday night was far worse. Personal bashing is always yuck, but at least the PE reporter intended her blog for public consumption.

Even though reviews are opinions and everyone has a right to their opinion if they open their blog review up to comments, the commenters have a right to disagree with the opinions expressed. It would be nice if people expressed their comments without going into attack mode…but that isn’t always the nature of the beast.

Haha. I know many, many professional and amateur violists and 95% of them are low-key, it’s almost a joke within the ranks. My son is even a viola performance major in college and fits the personality perfectly. Months ago, when I read Kris is a violist, I just had to laugh at how much he seems to match the profile as well (I’m sure Kris would agree). Elementary school kids don’t typically choose the viola over the violin, unless they’re unassuming and quiet. The attention-seekers generally pick the violin (or trumpet). I love Kris even more for being a violist, it’s my absolute fave string instrument.

So yeah, I do like Velvet Goldmine. Think it’s an excellent film. Yes, obvious choice for Adam, but it’s still a good film. Uh yeah to the rest of the idol picks.

Other films I thought were good films, if predictable, were Dancing in the Dark and Swingers.

Yeah, love Godfather I and II, but eh.

I saw Public Enemy last weekend, but missed the promos and trailers – damn it!

  • tiger92

Mtlfan, I’ll answer that. I asked my daughter this past year if she could switch to the viola as there is less competition in that area. (for all-state,governor’s school, etc.) She said the instruments are very different-one is played with the treble clef and the other is the bass clef. Also, the Beatles song does have a viola in it but the melody is a cello with two violins and a viola accompaniment. I’m still searching for a pop or rock song with a viola solo.

Here’s YouTube video of the post-show M&G by the buses after last night’s show. The video is more than 7 minutes long. Matt confirming he slapped Kris’ ass is around 3:20, some chick handing Adam lyrics is around 4:20, Kris joking about how he doesn’t sign on Danny’s pic is at around 5:05 and Kris and Matt spraying crowd with silly string comes around 7:00 in

Even though reviews are opinions and everyone has a right to their opinion if they open their blog review up to comments, the commentators have a right to disagree with the opinions expressed. It would be nice if people expressed their comments without going into attack mode’ ¦but that isn’t always the nature of the beast.

So if the review is negative to my favorite and I want to express to the readers of the blog that I think the review is faulty I have that option if there is an open comment section. That way the end reader also has a choice’ ¦.believe the reviewer or believe the comments. Its all about choice.

I can’t speak for the others, but I don’t see anyone here that is arguing the contrary, the problem is not that people disagreed with the reviewer, it’s the way they did it and that counts for something.

Attacking personally a writer who says one bad sentence about your favorite, calling her idiot/stupid, piling on the condescending or hateful comments gives a bad rep of the AI/Adam fans (that don’t really need it). That’s what the Claymates were knows for.

  • Kilroy

Tess, to clarify, Adam wouldn’t have gotten paid for the Rolling Stone cover or 20/20 interview. It’s a misconception that people get paid for interviews (unless it’s a tabloid, or they’re selling baby photo rights). RS would have paid Vanessa Grigoriadas (sp?), the journalist, not Adam. He doesn’t get paid for use of his likeness, 19 owns that, and probably owns the copyright from photogs and don’t charge for use of them. Only Getty would charge for their images.

Kris would have gotten some $ from his appearances on Leno, Kimmel, etc. Those stipends are tiny, anywhere from $540 to $780. Not sure about daytime rates.

Regarding Starlight, Adam does start it really high in the beginning but otherwise the rest of the song sounds just right to me, at least from the youtube videos. And I love the original Muse song (Matt Bellamy sounds like Bono on that song).

  • birchtree

I totally agree with you Valentin432. I understand that it can be hard not to get emotional but the personal attacks are hurtful all way round. I can’t imagine Adam acting that.

On another note: just got an ipod (Adam inspired me to get into this century). Now I’m wanting the best audio stuff from tours (before I was more focused on the video (visual). All the YouTunes stuff is a blur now. So, if any of you have favourite tour youtubes for the audio… feel free to point me in the right direction!

  • Mtlfan

    @tiger92

    thanks for the info.
Yes, one would have to get used to the different positions for notes, chords on top of the music being written differently.
I looked in wikipedia for further information as I only knew the treble clef. Seems that the alto clef is sometimes called the viola clef.

  • Chipmunk

Those pile ons on reviewers are just crazy and infantile!
They were silly when rabid Allen fans were doing it last week, and equally silly when Adam fans pile on that PE.Com chick here as well!

Its craziness, but happens everyyear, and they never stop. And BTW…I dont think Adam fans get to share the glory of claymates alone this year. The amount of whiny attacks I’ve seen by Allen fans over the last week where there were bad reviews puts them on equal footing in that regard

The pile on on Alisan porter’s twitter page when she dared to say she found Kris Allen boring is enough of proof of that.

  • webster

Discussion is one thing. Going to her blog and throwing hissy fits, calling this lady all kinds of names, because she didn’t like ‘Starlight’ is batshit insanity.

Of all the AI baggage that stand between the contestants and their ability to be taken seriously in the music business, this kind of thing, in my opinion, comprises the biggest hurdle. It just is so thoroughly off-putting to music fans, writers, other musicians, etc, and paints a big, flashing (in this case, glittery) AI finger at the artist. I know it’ll never go away, but it’s just so sad to see the contestants work so hard at being taken seriously, only to have this bizarro fanatic behaviour push them back down.

I know, I know. Lots of people don’t see it that way, but it’s worth keeping in mind that whether or not this kind of thing effects the singers, isn’t a matter of opinion. Either I’m right or I’m wrong, and my opinion is that I’m right.

  • Eileen99

tiger, mtfln: viola is primarily played in the alto clef (commonly called viola clef) and as you advance to more difficult repertoire, in the treble clef as well. Definitely not bass clef (that would be cello & bass). If she is a good musician, it is a fairly smooth transition between viola & violin & vice versa. Kris would certainly be able to also play violin, especially if he already reads treble clef easily.

Go to Youtube and search for viola pieces, there are a lot posted.

  • Chipmunk

Atatcking a reviewer mob style is just plain crazy IMO. How can a reviewer be faulty anyways? It a review, an opinion of a show/event from the writer’s point of view, it’s not stating fact. The end reader has a choice yes, and the fact that most of them choose this knee jerk rabid offensive doesnt make it any wiser

Now, maybe I’m a bit stupid ‘” but there is a lot of difference between writing that Starlight was ‘the weakest vocal performance of the night’ and today’s comment that she thought the key was too high and it didn’t show off his voice as well as it could have.

She’s pandering, and feeling the need to justify her comments, and she shouldnt have to! Mansfield also had to clarify some of his comments, as did the yahoo interviewer from the pile on!

I wish they wouldnt fall for the trap and wouldnt do that. Anybody who doesnt like a differing opinion or a little criticism of their fav should grow a thicker skin and stuff it,IMO!

Reviewers shouldnt have to “wet nurse” people’s obsessive behaviour!

The pile on on Alisan porter’s twitter page when she dared to say she found Kris Allen boring is enough of proof of that.

Curiously, I don’t think it was done by Kris Allen fans.
Alisan Porter is a friend of Adam, why would there be Kris fans following her? Moreover, the more hateful and crazy stuff come from that ontdai community, basically the ones behind the whole Kradam stuff.

I guess the whole thing that Kradam is love and a symbol of tolerance doesn’t apply if you dare to criticize one of them?

She just said “Snooze” when Allen’s set was on, and voila….. a pile on with comments that sounded like they were coming from a bunch of 6 year olds!

  • tiger92

Eileen:Concerning the violin vs. viola…my daughter’s violin teacher told her it wouldn’t be a simple transition. (Her teacher is the concert master for the Memphis Symphony Orchestra.) However, one of her friends in the orchestra at school switched three years ago. It took her that long to get back to the level she was at with the violin and this past year she made all-state! So, I do think the transition can be done-but, you can’t just interchange them easily. Bass clef…treble clef…I don’t really know. haha. My daughter is the musical wiz and I just listen and apppreciate musicians of any kind! So, there are pop songs with viola solos? Which ones? Off to youtube to search!

  • Chipmunk

Tweets of diff people at an AI concert are posted as the show goes along, usually in the thread for each show, Mj’s log does it, ontd_Ai does it. You dont have to follow the individual, people just post the comments as they come, and then when they posted Alisan’s,the pile on came. I dont know how twitter works, but reading the comments myself, basic common sense tells me they were mostly Kradam fans on Ontd_Ai who are primarily Allen fans.

My point is, the rabidness exists all around, esp true for Allen and lambert fans this year, no one fan group is better than the other IMO and the knee jerk responses are infantile and plain ridiculous

  • Mtlfan

    Thanks for you comment Eileen99

I did a little research in the use of viola in pop/rock

Here’s an example of a viola solo in a pop song (‘dust in the wind’ by Kansas)

Another one (electric viola) from alternative rock (Velvet Underground ‘Stephanie says’)

  • will

    will,

you said you played viola for many many years. i’m curious to know if a violist can play violin too and be quite as good? Like piano players who can switch keyboards type of instrument

Mtlfan, I did take up violin many years after I had begun on viola, and while it wasn’t a huge learning curve, it never felt quite as comfortable. I wouldn’t want to make any generalizations about it though — I think it depends on the individual. Many people do play both equally well.

  • Mtlfan

She’s tactless for saying what she felt in HER twitter page, as she watched the concert? She found Allen’s set boring, it’s that simple

..knowing it would be known as she’s Adam’s friend, it is plainly tactless in my opinion, nothing less, nothing more. It doesn’t make her a bad person or anything else. People can do faux-pas, it happens..

  • Eileen99

Tiger92: I wonder if your daughter’s violin teacher just doesn’t want her to switch and is therefore being discouraging? My son easily picked up the violin without very much transition time when some friends needed a 2nd violin for a gig. I think it depends on the student. If she’s talented and willing to practice, it is certainly not a 3-year process. More like working really hard to get comfortable and learn the rep over a summer (or maybe a school year) – I know many high school students who have switched between the 2 very successfully and who are now music majors in college playing the instrument they switched to.

Sorry for the italics – couldn’t figure out how to turn them off!

  • Chipmunk

..knowing it would be known as she’s Adam’s friend, it is plainly tactless in my opinion, nothing less, nothing more. It doesn’t make her a bad person or anything else. People can do faux-pas, it happens..

Being Adam’s friend doesnt stop her from having an opinion and voicing it. Nothing tactless about that IMO.

Apparently the snore comment was not directed at Kris set, so who knows? I think we really shouldn’t be so hasty judge.

  • Niall

She’s tactless for saying what she felt in HER twitter page, as she watched the concert? She found Allen’s set boring, it’s that simple

Exactly. Regardless of whether or not the other AIers are “friends of a friend” that doesn’t mean she loses her right to have an opinion. If somebody says they think Kris has a dull performance, the response shouldn’t be comparable to the person saying “Kris is a child molester,” and, unfortunately, it was darn close to it.

And the reaction is particularly ridiculous in light of the fact that people didn’t even read the tweet correctly so they got their panties in a bunch over something that evidently wasn’t even said.

  • Mary102

I have to say, based on everyone’s favorite movie, Matt wins the prize in my book :-) I love The Godfather, and he quoted one of my all time favorite scenes there. I haven’t seen Velvet Goldmine, but that looked pretty interesting too.

  • Mtlfan

Apparently the snore comment was not directed at Kris set, so who knows? I think we really shouldn’t be so hasty judge.

yeah, I just went to check by myself. Unfortunate timing in the context… lol

I must admit I was finding that very surprising coming from an artist like her

    Case closed

  • Mtlfan

Exactly. Regardless of whether or not the other AIers are ‘friends of a friend’ that doesn’t mean she loses her right to have an opinion. All the poor girl said was she found his set dull yet you’d think she accused him of being a child molester, given the reaction.

you should check her twitter…. her ‘snore’ comment was not directed at Kris

  • Niall

you should check her twitter’ ¦. her ‘snore’ comment was not directed at Kris

Which should make those who freaked out on the girl, or made OTT assumptions about her character, feel pretty silly, I hope.

  • Mary102

Regarding Vanessa Franko’s review which contained this:

It’s no surprise that Adam Lambert brought the theatrics to the table, but he wailed out a great version of ‘Whole Lotta Love’ but then gave the weakest vocal performance of the night with a cover of Muse’s ‘Starlight.’ He recovered with ‘Mad World’ and some fog machines. I also loved how he kind of thumbed his nose at what ‘Idol’ is supposed to be about and did some seductive dance moves and ended with a David Bowie medley.

So I’m fine with bad Adam reviews, but the hyperbole involved with the line in bold above is what would make me question this one. Really? Weakest vocal of the night? Uh, just a guess, but I can’t imagine Megan, Michael, Scott, and most of the others didn’t come up with SOMETHING that was maybe kinda a little worse.

BTW – I did notice the retraction later, which was kind of funny. Still, I guess my point is that bad Adam reviews are fine, just not when it’s that much off base, logic wise.

  • Mtlfan

Which should make those who freaked out on the girl, or made OTT assumptions about her character, feel pretty silly, I hope.

nope.. However i’ll agree with you that’s it’s better to check the facts before.
I can be wrong or right or somewhere in the middle, i don’t have a problem with that. Hope it’s same for you

  • Chipmunk

Which should make those who freaked out on the girl, or made OTT assumptions about her character, feel pretty silly, I hope.

    Silly is the word!

  • tiger92

Eileen: This particular young lady changed over after many years of playing the violin and qualifying for all-west(all-district)in sixth-eighth grade. It took her three years to get back to qualifying for all-west again. My daughter just got back from TN governor’s school and those kids are AMAZING! I’m referring to that level of playing: all-state,governor’s school, major scholorships, etc. If you are really advanced, it probably takes longer to get back to that level! Oh well, it’s too late for her to change now anyways!

  • noctem seizure

For the best and the worst, Adam has by far the craziest fans of all this year.

From your lips to God’s ears. From almost the very beginning of the season, I’ve had the feeling that that fandom would give the Claymates a run for their money.
