What is your goal? What do you want for your career?
I want to make records. I want to be an entertainer, you know. I want to help people escape and just dance and have a great time and party and love each other, and I want to be able to raise awareness on a couple of things. You know, soapbox about it. Maybe pushing peoples buttons for a little bit. Always with a little wink at the audience with a little camp. Adam Lambertà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Album Will Be Fusion Fierce

Adam Lambert smiles and waves at fans as he performs live in front of a large crowd for the CBS Early Show in NYC on Tuesday (May 26).

The 27-year-old American Idol runner-up recently shared his plans to record: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Labels tend to try to put one box around every artist and keep them in one genre, but I think [my album] can be a collection of different styles. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to do one specific genre. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m more about fusion. There are a lot of pop artists that are using the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹glamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ kind of vibe in their music currently so I think Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m actually part of a wave. Why Adam Lambert shouldn’t join Queen

Kris Allen may have won American Idol, but most of the buzz following Wednesday’s finale seems to have centered on Adam Lambert’s future plans.

After all, Kris’ path is set, to a certain degree. He’s the Idol. He’s got the coronation single. He’ll close the tour. And people who watched the show have a decent idea — or at least they think they do — of how his original music is going to sound.

Adam Lambert keen on Queen, but he won’t rock only

NEW YORK à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Will he, will he rock you? Adam Lambert won’t rule out a stint as the new frontman of Queen, but don’t let that fool you into thinking the American Idol runner-up will make his living on the classic rock station.

The legendary band has expressed interest in employing his formidable vocal skills, and Lambert is a big fan of the group once fronted by the late Freddie Mercury.

But the 27-year-old California native says he’d feel torn about joining the band. The former theater actor says he has ambitious plans for his post-Idol debut album, calling it a kind of “rock-pop-electronic-dance thing.”

He says he wants to be produced “in a very very current, almost futuristic, way.”

2 girls had questions, Gokey had answers

Hope you don’t mind, I told Danny Gokey, but I brought two random 12-year-old girls to do my interviewing for me.

No problem, he said in that easygoing Milwaukee way that America fell hard for on “American Idol.”

Sure, I probably could have thunk up some questions, but I was more interested in what Casey Tutton and Tricia Nelsen would ask. I like the show OK, but they’re the ones who Sharpied Gokey’s name on their foreheads and stood on trash cans to see over the huge crowd when he performed at the Summerfest grounds.

Kelly Clarkson, the winner of the debut season of “American Idol” in 2002, says she’s a fan of surprise British singing star Susan Boyle, adding to a growing number of celebrity admirers that already include Oprah Winfrey and Demi Moore.

Boyle, the 47-year-old church volunteer with a powerful voice, overcame a dowdy image to become an Internet sensation after her performance on the talent show “Britain’s Got Talent” was posted on YouTube.

“I think it’s awesome. I’m bawling whenever I hear her sing,” Clarkson told The Associated Press in Hong Kong, saying Boyle’s rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” from the musical “Les Miserables” sounded beautiful.

David Cook: ‘I’m Excited Not To Be The Newbie Anymore’

I have always said that I don’t vote for any of the contestants on “American Idol” unless they’re Kelly Clarkson — well, that all changed in season seven of “American Idol” when David Cook rocked my world, and yours, by reworking classics like “Hello” and “Billie Jean” to embrace his rock flair.

I dialed Idol many a time, cementing his victory (it was all me) over Kewpie doll David Archuleta. Now, almost one year later, David is busier than ever — headlining his first tour, playing sold-out shows almost nightly. I caught up with David during a brief stop over in NYC to talk about this year’s finale, what the last 365 days have been like and I discovered what single decision David believes would’ve caused him to lose “American Idol”!

I was not emotionally invested in this season like last, but from seeing a bit of Kris and Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interviews here, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m so happy to see that apparently two nice, humble deserving folks won. (like last year). Yay.
I have a couple of Idol questions that I thought I might get the answers to here (if anywhere!)
-Anyone know how many Idols or Idolettes have done USO tours? I know Bo, K.Pickler, Cookie. Any others?
    - I saw an entry on a message board which quoted Adam L. as saying that Kris is the first Christian he knew that didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t judge him. I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t read all the Adam interviews, so if anyone can find where this quote is from I would really appreciate it.

They were using quite a bit of reverb on his voice — but so did Idol. This is an ideal setup for recording a live vocal. A quiet studio where the sound engineers know what works. Solo piano. One voice. Plus, high def TV with Dolby Digital audio is an incredible recording format for audio.

Idol has never done a particularly good job with their audio. In fairness, it’s a tough challege to mix their show live, but it’s never been great.

Anyway, this performance this morning is breathtaking.

Sorry, but all this voting dispute, as a Kris fan, is making me hate the Glamberts already and in the long run, Adam, as well. What a bunch of SORE LOSERS! There. I said it!

Whilst I understand that it’s starting to get irritating I wouldn’t take it out on Adam as it’s something he has no control of.

I’m a huge Adam fan and to me what is most important to me now is supporting him in his future career and what I’m most interested in is what he’s going to show us with regard to his album and his performances. All this voting malarkey to me is overshadowing the great interviews and performances both Kris and Adam are providing us with on their current media rounds.

As an Adam fan, of course I wanted him to win, but seeing what a great guy Kris is and seeing how positive and upbeat Adam is about the whole thing has made it very easy for me to accept the result. In all reality shows there are outside influences that affect the voting and especially in the singing shows it’s not always about the best singer or performer .. but that’s all part and parcel of the show.

Of course there are always going to be conspiracy theories and I’m not against these being raised and if necessary looked into, but it’s a shame that all of this is starting to overshadow that we seem to have two very different but very hardworking and really nice guys who are getting the opportunity to fulfil their ambitions and dreams.

I think there are fans on both sides who seem to be getting their knickers in a twist too much about certain things and some of the more OTT behaviour and continual moaning is starting to get irritating .. but I tend to just ignore it now and concentrate on the more positive and fun side of supporting my chosen favourite.

Hopefully by the time the tour starts all of this can blow over and people start to actually enjoy themselves instead of moaning and picking.

Yes. There seems to be this groundswell of anti Adam ferver, as if he did something wrong. Nothing can negate Kris’ win. So what’s the fuss? Enjoy his win.

  • babybelle32

That Rolling Stone interview with Kris is great. I wish he would talk more about how he went about re-arranging songs, because he should be so proud that he has a talant like that. I’m glad that this reporter brought up “Falling Slowly,” and the work that Kris put into researching the song, so that he could nail the right feeling. It seems like so many of these reporters didn’t watch the show, and have no idea about Adam or Kris’ styles or their journey through the show, yet they have no problem with spreading rumors, or saying that one was in the lead but the other wasn’t.

  • Niall

The only “scandal” here involves corporate greed and a monopoly AT&T has for AI text messaging. It has been going on for years but has nothing to do with Kris Allen or Adam Lambert, something the fans pushing this would do well to realize and adjust their complaint because any valid points they make, much like Clay Aiken earlier this week, gets lost in the sour grapes and overly emotional responses about Adam and Kris.

Logic has gone out the window if people really think a couple power texting lessons at a party in Conway Arkansas shifted the vote. That just happened to make the news. What about all the stuff that didn’t make the news, like all the Adam and Kris fans who power texted but didn’t need instructions for how to do so? BOTH SIDES each year power text and power vote via stuff like dialidol and gizmo. The rule breaking cancels each side out and we still get the result we were destined to get anyway.

    rock-pop-electronic-dance thing

That quote on what Adam wants his album to be like makes me all sorts of nervous.

*sigh* I just can’t get into electronic dance stuff. I knew he’d want it on his album based on his pre-Idol work. But I just can’t help but hate that kind of music. Very rarely do I ever like a song of that genre.

I want to LOVE Adam’s album. I really do. But I am getting the feeling that I won’t. He’s gotta make himself happy though.

Yes!!!! Exactly. It has been going on for years at the contestants expense. LOL

Going back to Adam’s Rollingstone article, I like how Adam wants to use music as a healing message to people. Its good to get people to talk/think about stuff. Although, I can’t wait to see what his CD cover looks like. lol

  • moody

The sad thing is it doesn’t matter that it’s not Adam’s fault. It still has a negative effect on him when his fans are crying foul. Just like the OTT pimping on the show, the end result is people are turned off of the contestant through no fault of his.

  • undercooked

The voting dispute is going viral. Here is the latest from AOLs Daily Finance:

Yes, it was on KNX, a Los Angeles based A.M. talk news show, this morning. But again, the angle is more about AT&T. If Kris fans want to blame anyone, they should blame Arkansas officials who were the ones bragging about their organized voting parties.

I still think Dial Idol is the correct indicator of the vote, which is that Kris won, but it was a very narrow margin. All of the questionable votes seem to be done via texting, which Dial Idol doesn’t measure. So I hope people feel that the outcome wasn’t rigged and it was a nail bitter with Kris winning.

*sigh* I just canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get into electronic dance stuff. I knew heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d want it on his album based on his pre-Idol work. But I just canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t help but hate that kind of music. Very rarely do I ever like a song of that genre.

I want to LOVE Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s album. I really do. But I am getting the feeling that I wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gotta make himself happy though.

Yeah, I too wondered if Adam might go that route, after hearing his earlier recordings like Pop Goes The Camera.

I also wonder if that was what Simon had in mind when he referred to being an international superstar, since a lot of music that is internationally popular is that hooky, electronic-beat-driven pop.

If Adam goes that route he will probably sell huge amounts of records, but I just don’t like that stuff unless I’m in a club dancing to it.

As for Kris, I hope he actually has some say in what he’ll record, and the time to be personal and creative on his album. Pretty worried it will just be pre-packaged stuff.

  • djwolff

But Adam has stated in several interviews that he wants to make dance music, kinda like Lady Gaga or Madonna. Can’t give you sources, but he has mentioned that quite a few times.

I kinda wish he had showed more of that on the show.

Okay, Gokey wanting to go on DWTS? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

On a more serious note…I don’t know if I like the idea of Kris going on the Huckabee show. I understand it, Huckabee being the former governor of Kris’ home state and all. But after that whole O’Reilly fiasco, I’m uneasy.

Here’s my fear: in spite of the media hyping Kris’ religion and trying to turn this into a culture war, Kris has been very guarded about his beliefs. He doesn’t talk about the spiritual aspect of his mission work, or his work as a worship leader, and has gone out of his way to say he didn’t want to win on the “Christian” vote. In addition Adam has described him as a very open-minded, non-judgemental person. I’m afraid someone, most likely someone at Fox, will flat-out ask him “what do you think about gay marriage?” It’s been in the news, most recently with CA’s court decision. And poor Kris will be stuck between a rock and a hard place. I don’t know what his feelings toward gay marriage are (though I can guess his church’s stance), and frankly I don’t care. But the media does…and I don’t want him turned into another Miss California.

  • wellhesback

You know, it’s interesting, in the past year David Cook has stated in two different interviews that he thinks gay people should have the right to marry. (Sorry I don’t have links at hand). Doesn’t seem to have hurt him.

Hopefully nothing political Kris would say in an interview would hurt him. It really should be about the music.

Kris and I became really good friends on this. We were roommates and looking at him across the way singing the lyric à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“We are the Championsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ I felt very connected to him at that moment and it was the perfect symbolic ending to this whole journey and it really felt like it put the period at the end of the sentence.

This is an interview with Kris posted by sunkissedtrampoline in Adam’s Regis and Kelly post. I wanted to comment on it, but felt it was more appropriate to do so here:

Interviewer: How do you stay grounded? How do you keep from getting a big head?

Kris: People talking about Adam all the time.

    Lol. Aw, poor Kris.

  • hypertwink

Interviewer: How do you stay grounded? How do you keep from getting a big head?

The boy has teeth. Not just your average nice guy, our new Idol.

  • colette

Last Weekà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Heroes: While last weekà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hero was undoubtedly American Idol Season Eight champ Kris Allen, the charts tell a different story: In what could foreshadow the two finalistsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ post-Idol career, AI runner-up Adam Lambert slotted at 33 with his iTunes-only Season Eight Favorite Performances collection. Kris Allenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s compilation of the same name entered the charts at 50. Both singers have handfuls of tracks on the singles charts, where Allen has the edge. [Note to Idol followers: the above statistics are based on this weekà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s albums sales chart and not the iTunes charts or any other measure of album sales.]

Note the caveat at the end of the RS story above. “this week’s albums sale charts” — huh? what does that mean?

And I love Kris saying “People talking about Adam all the time” keeps him grounded! Friends and fellow contestants praised the boy’s wry, self-deprecating wit, and it will come in very handy…..I just adore this kid…

Can someone explain to me what pink elephant means? I dont quite get it :/

  • hwc

There is a combination of two expressions:

“The elephant in the room” is an expression meaning a huge obvious topic that nobody dares mention (like is Adam gay?).

“Pink elelphants” are popularized as something a drunk sees when intoxicated. Probably came from a movie or Broadway play initially (I’m thinking a Dean Martin movie or something).

Pink is, of course, a symbolic gay color.

EDIT: Ok, according to Wiki, the first use of “pink elephants” to describe a drunken hallucination was in a book by Jack London in 1918. However, it was popularized in the 1941 Disney movie Dumbo about an elephant. Dumbo drank moonshine and saw pink elephants dancing.

  • colette

Ugh, more and more stories about the “cheating scandal.” good grief, what a bunch of canards.

    I do love Adam’s reaction to ABC — he’s a class act:

Adam Lambert, the “American Idol” runner-up, told ABC News Radio on Wednesday that media reports suggesting he may have lost because “Idol” sponsor AT&T provided free text-messaging services, along with lessons on casting blocks of votes, to fans of the winner Kris Allen are much ado about nothing.

In addition to all the other reasons why I think the conspiracy thing is balderhash, there’s this one: Can anybody tell me why AT&T would prefer one candidate over the other? How does it affect their business if Kris Allen wins or not? I don’t get it.

Yeah, pretty funny. In fairness, though, I think someone at some event in Wisconsin asked him if he’d be interested in it and he said something like, “sure, because they told me that I couldn’t dance.”

I think he then went on to say he didn’t want anything to distract him from what he’s doing right now. At least I think that’s what I read, although admittedly I just skimmed it.

Is it weird that whenever I hear Adam talk about his upcoming album I think about Blake Lewis and how his album totally flopped? I know Adam’s a way better singer, but I sometimes worry that his album won’t do as well as people think it will. Well, as long as Adam’s album really is eclectic and different then I’ll be really happy. (I still think Blake’s album did poorly because it was too generic..)

Danny and dancing with the stars.I want him lose another competition so go for it Gokey!

Someone said that the media might start asking Kris about religon and gay marriage? I think Kris would dodge the question and say that its fine to be
gay and in love.If he accepts Adam then its clear that he accepts gay rights.
Kris isnt Danny Gokey.I think Kris is polite and wouldnt drag it.It would be a
    open book question case closed.

  • skylight1219

I think Danny was being snarky with his comment about being on DWTS.

  • KrisAllen1

Danny shouldnt be snarky. He’s lucky he made it to the top 3.The judges pimped his sorry ass when he didnt derserve it.

  • skylight1219

Huckabee has a lot of different people on his show. It doesn’t matter if they’re Christian or not. I watch BOR, and he never said anything negative about Adam. He said,it’s all about the music. One of his guests made some comments, and BOR never chimed in to agree. He doesn’t watch the show, so had no idea.

Huckabee won’t ask him about Adam’s sexuality. Carrie Prejean answered a question which set off a debate nationwide. Sad, but, the gays who bashed her and caused her and her family trouble, give themselves and their cause a bad name. I saw her on Fox & Friends this morning and she said she supported Adam.

Danny shouldnt be snarky.Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s lucky he made it to the top 3.The judges pimped his sorry ass when he didnt derserve it.

I think Danny can be as snarky as he wants. There are many Gokey fans who disagree with you.

American Idol finalist Anoop Desai finds it more important to prove himself on stage than talk about his Indian heritage

    -snip-

Speaking to The Statesman, he said, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I am very excited about going on the American Idol tour (to begin soon). But I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think my voice fits Bollywood soundtracks. My parents introduced me to the likes of Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been inspired by their sensibilities. I would like to visit India, perform there, but my kind of musicà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Being of Indian origin had set me apart in the initial stages of the show. But it was not about breaking stereotypes but about proving myself on stage.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

    -snip-

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idol has earned me recognition. The other day I was at the airport and people cornered me for autographs. Being recognised everywhere makes me feel great.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ The music Desai is good at is R&B and pop. During one of the episodes of American Idol (showcased on Star World), he had the opportunity to meet Stevie Wonder. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“It was more of a group meeting and all he did was compliment us. He was impressed with all our vocal styles.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

He went on to share the feeling of being on stage. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s out of the world. Every part of me feels awakened during every show. The judges can be tough and nice whenever they want.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

The first CD Desai ever picked up was a Michael Jackson album. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I grew up listening to pop radio. I am still a radio fan.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Nice interview with Kris at OK Magazine
Aww he’s become good friends with Chris Daughtry. Now that’s someone I’d certainly follow advice from.

  • Calliope

I would love an electro-pop-rock album from Adam (some of my faves musically are The Presets, The Faint, Ladytron, Patrick Wolf), but I know it’s not everybody’s cuppa. Still, while not being huge, even the Yeah Yeahs Yeahs new song has a dance-rock sound, so it’s current. Sam Sparro has a mix of funk-dance-rock-pop, so fusion is out there. It’s just about how it will appeal to the masses. I think it can, if done right — rockier Gaga. Adam doesn’t have to work to appeal to the non-Adam fans on AI, but the non-AI fans who buy music.

Anyway, I love that the pink elephant comment. It was very witty.

As far as the quote from Adam saying Kris was the first Christian he’s met that didn’t judge him- I wish I could remember where I saw it, too. I recall that it was not said in a public interview, but as a private comment to Kris’ dad, thanking him for raising his boy right. As a Christian myself, I didn’t take it as anti-christian at all, but rather as an honest statement of his personal experience. I wept.

Pink is, of course, a symbolic gay color.

I really don’t make much of these things, but I thought purple was the symbolic gay color? When I think of pink as a symbol, I think of Breast Cancer. But then why should the Gay community have a color? There is no need for put-downs. Maybe there is a color for everyone under one umbrella? You know, maybe red, white, and blue.

Adam seems a little too sensible to have said something so dumb. I’m sure a large chunk of the other Idol contestants were probably Christian (whether or not they are actively practicing Christianity doesn’t matter)…is he saying that they were all judging him? And last I checked, being gay and being Christian were not mutually exclusive . So either Adam was misquoted or he’s using some kind of rigid definition of the word “Christian”. I’m inclined to believe the former.
