Braddy still in running as American Idol ‘wild card’

Braddy, a local contestant on the popular national talent show American Idol, was voted out of the top 12 on Wednesday, but is still in the running as a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ wild cardà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ contestant.

Calls to the showà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s PR department confirmed this, when The Daily Advance was told on Wednesday that Braddy was unavailable for interviews because he was still à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“in contest.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Many local fans feel that Braddy simply hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t received enough airtime to make him prominent enough in the minds of viewers, which is affecting the number of votes he receives.

David Cook wows crowd; crowd wows David Cook

One thingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s for sure, David Cook can belt out a tune. And yet, somehow he makes it look effortless.

With a booming voice projected off his signature scrunched-face screamer pose, the 26-year-old did just that for roughly 65 minutes Friday night at the Weidner Center on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus.

The sold out show à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ of 1,000 tickets for floor seats only, per Cookà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s request à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ was mostly based off the seventh season à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ winnerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s self-titled debut album. American Idol’s Jamar Rogers and Frankie Jordan – BIG BIG NEWS!American was shocked when Jamar Rogers was eliminated from American Idol during Hollywood Week. We’d enjoyed watching him and best buddy Danny Gokey during the auditions and had hopes of watching them compete together in the Top 12.

Sure, we were disappointed that Jamar was sent home. But what most fans don’t realize is that while winning American Idol is a great thing, not winning can sometimes be a good thing, too. The exposure to millions of viewers can open myriad doors, allowing an artist to pursue his music without restrictions from contractual obligations that dictate style and genre.

Simon Cowell and ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour divide up belongings

SIMON COWELL appears in a new reality show yesterday – as he and his former girlfriend divide up their belongings.

Flanked by their aides, he and Terri Seymour turned up separately at the  £5million Beverly Hills townhouse they shared before splitting in October.

Terri, 36, looked sensational in a red dress and spent much of the time sending text messages as multi-millionaire Simon, 49, ambled around the grounds.

The pair, who were together for six years, chatted in front of his  £750,000 Bugatti Veyron sports car.

Terri dumped the X-Factor judge by text over his inability to commit to starting a family. He later denied giving her a  £5million pay off, saying: “If anything, I should be getting the money.”

But sources claim he did buy Terri the  £2.9million Californian mansion.

^^^ So, the Top 36 are allowed to do interviews? I’m really confused.

  • waffle

I really hope Ricky Braddy gets another chance to make top 12. I thought he sang better than everyone in his group last week, even Alexis Grace.

I am so excited for this week’s performances, especially Adam’s. Is it weird that I missed him last week? He’s my bet this year.

Also, that review of DC’s tour stop at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay was full of goodness! I’ve been wondering about this for awhile, but it’s really interesting that David gets to sing a song from his pre-Idol unreleased album, Analog Heart, even MWK. Is it usual that a new artist is given this much freedom in choosing songs to sing on his first solo tour? That’s really cool.

  • VictoriaB

Great interview with Nick. I was against him at first, but he seems nice and he doesn’t take himself too seriously. Now I’m glad he’s on the show.

Jamar’s employer, P.F. Chang’s, transferred him to L.A., where he’s currently working with another eliminated Idol contestant, Frankie Jordan! The two are currently putting the finishing touches on their new single, “Reject.”

Good for them. I can see their voices working well together. Hopefully, since it hasn’t been too long since Hollywood Week aired, they will get some exposure.

What is your favorite song that you wrote?

DA: My favorite song that I wrote, hmmm. You know, I really like this one that’s called “Works for Me.” It’s one song that’s on the Wal-Mart edition. Yeah, so that was a really fun one. ‘Cause I just… I thought… Well we focused on trying to show my personality in the song. So… I think that worked. It worked for me.

Haha! Thanks for posting the link, froggie.

ETA: David said that during the month-long process of writing for the album, he wrote a total of 6 songs. Interesting.

  • frogcooke

well about 6 lol He wasnt exactly sure…
WFM, ALTNOY, DLG, SOT, zero gravity and fighting for you I think are the 6 he is refering to. Falling was written years ago. Two of them didnt make the album.

I think it’s probably understood that, to keep it fresh, he needs to do a few songs apart from what’s on David Cook (the record), so he’s allowed to mix it up each performance with some old music and some covers. It seems he is still the only one allowed to sing lead, however. I think he wanted to let Andy Skib (the keyboard player/guitarist, who was the lead singer of MWK) sing lead a couple of times but was told no.

I really like Normund/Nick. I hope he really brings it this week. I’m rooting for Adam, but I also like what I’ve seen of Kris and Matt. I’m going to try and vote for who appears to be the most talented and gives the best performances. If it’s Nick, so be it, but, if not, I hope he goes out on an up note.

Kimberly Caldwell and Kimberly Locke both showed up for UCLA’s Dance Marathon charity last night. Kimberly C. talked to the crowd and little and introduced Kimberly L. who sang a song (I’m not sure what she sang, I didn’t watch season 2 sorry!). But it was really cool to see them there! My friend also claims that David Archuleta had a video message shown early on, but I wasn’t there and she wasn’t all that sure about it so unless someone else can confirm it…those were the idols that I saw. It was an amazing event and very cool of them to show up and say hi.

Why isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t there any footage/gossip about Alexisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ hometown visit? Are her local peeps just less excited?

As one of “her local peeps,” I’d have to give that a resounding “no.” I’ve seen flyers in the oddest places applauding both Alexis and Lil’ Rounds, our locals. And, there are plenty of oversized churches here, so who knows!
    ;-P

David Cook is in my area twice but students only. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s getting good reviews and packed shows and thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all he wants for now. We have a casino here so was hoping he might book there, maybe next time around.

Fair warning, from someone who learned the hard way. Don’t rely on online or phone purchase when tix go on sale, if he books at that casino. Get to the box office in person. Tix went on sale here Friday for the first visit from Cook coming mid-April. It was a non-college venue, and AI tour did not get anywhere close to here. Crashed website the minute tix went on sale, phone lines jammed, yada, yada. Sold out in 12 minutes. Adding insult to injury, I’ve since seen on fansites that folks are coming from the West Coast, Midwest, Texas, and across the pond, among other places — many who’ve seen him multiple times in past months — who got the tix and locals were essentially frozen out. Crazy stuff, and maddening really for peeps who’ve waited patiently for him to come to town.

But, I digress. And, good for him, btw! Very cool that he’s so popular. A part of me does have to doubt that his goal was to have groupies travel to all these small venue shows at the expense of his local fans. *Shrug*

  • abbysee

Adam’s I Just Love You was beautiful. I think I love him, lol.

This has got to be frustrating. I’ve never followed a musician as closely as I have DC; I wonder if this is commonplace? (Eh, I’m sure it is). I know people are excited about seeing someone they like, but flying to different states, to show after show? It would be different if he were playing in huge stadiums, ala Springsteen, but with venues being so small right now, it doesn’t seem quite fair. I, too, have seen lots of posts from fans who try for every available venue, no matter where it is. That’s why I’m one of those who are happy about the student only – or at least, student first – ticket sales. They’d have no chance otherwise.

Makes me wonder how many Kansas City fans were actually able to get tickets to his hometown show?

I am sorry that you couldn’t get tickets to your local concert. The same thing is happening at DA’s concerts. I guess it is good that they are doing well, but it makes it hard if you missed out.

There are many people who have MET DA 5 or 6 times, and I have been to 3 concerts (sort of- he sang for about 15 minutes each time) and live 30 minutes away from his home but have never met him!!!

They haven’t announced the Utah concerts yet, but tons of people plan to fly here for them. I want them to stay home, so people here can see him!!

Thus far the closest concert to DA’s hometown is Idaho Falls, and David mentioned in an interview that his friends couldn’t even get tickets to that concert (2000 seater, sold out in 5 or 6 minutes).

I’m pretty positive there will be a couple of Utah concerts in late March, though, before he heads off to Asia. They’re supposedly in bigger venues, so that should help.

  • JOJOSIE

Welcome to the world of fandom. My first experience was season 5, with being a Taylor fan. His fans went to as many as 10. 20 and even more of his performances, I think some lost count. They flew coast to coast and even from Europe and Canada. They had fun, took videos, did cellcerts and made friends and posted online. I’m not sure about season 6, but season 7 seem like they’re going this direction too. I only got to 1 Taylor concert but I did the smart thing and got my ticket from the theatre. Cook’s tour is still new so I’m still hoping for a chance to see and hear him this year.

Agree. Several of my friends in different parts of the country haven’t been able to get tickets to the shows near them. Someone asked about the KC show. Several of my friends who live near there were unable to score tix. I have been feeling almost guilty for getting a ticket, myself. It looks to be legitimate. Here’s the listing for the Crush single on Amazon.co.uk’s digital download site. Fans buying tickets to multiple Cook concerts. Nothing new in Idolworld.
It’s only bad if hundreds of people are doing this and freezing out the fans. I’m assuming only a relatively small number of people have the time (and money) to go to more than a few concerts. (I don’t know the actual numbers.)

It becomes a problem if the superfans spend literally thousands of dollars to stalk their prey. Or if they assume, that Cook will at one point magically fall in love with them. Or dip into their life savings, drop out of school, quit jobs, cash out the retirement fund, rearrange major aspects of their life. Then they’re nuts in my scientific opinion.

  • weareallinnocent

^^^Hey, I have no problem with enthusiastic fans, to be sure. And I’m not really that surprised by it. Of course, we’re disappointed here though. This venue is small, and really, there is no true viable large venue at present, so the chances of a later concert is minimal as I can’t imagine Cook can keep up this small venue stuff for much longer.

I will admit, though, I think it’s a little bit crazy to plan a multi-stop trip to two cities in TN — the two nearly the farthest apart (a good 7 hour drive) — coming from literally many 1000 miles away, sometimes crossing a continent or an ocean. :-) And, at this point, I really do have to say, if fans TRULY can’t resist coming, then they might at least TRY to keep their disparaging remarks about their destination city and its crime rate to themselves. :-(

Sorry for the vent…. I’ll stop now.

  • jpfan

I can see local fans being mad. Cook is playing at small venues and I assume the point of traveling around the country is to entertain new fans. Not just the same group of people showing up at every show. It is pretty selfish in a way when venues are small but I’m sure the “superfans” don’t see it that way.

  • BootStar

I’m a huge Cook fan, but there is no way in hell I’m paying the prices scalpers are trying to get for some of his shows, which I’ve seen listed at 10x the retail price. The two concerts at the Borgata in Atlantic City sold out in like 6 minutes, and many, many fans were completely shut out, while others, from all over the country (and the UK and Israel) managed to get tickets to both shows.

I certainly don’t fault people for flying in from wherever to catch an intimate Cook show, but, yeah, it’s pretty disappointing when the only non-college shows he’s playing in the tri-state area (PA, NJ, DE) are only making half the tickets available to the general public, and then folks who have already seen him multiple times in various parts of the country snatch up those limited tickets. Apparently this is capitalism at its finest, but I can’t imagine it’s what David wants or needs at this point in his career when he’s trying to expand his fanbase.

I purchased a single ticket at the retail price to the closest concert I could get to, Penn State York, but only because tickets sales were open to the general public. I personally wouldn’t try to get a ticket to a student-only concert, but I can certainly see why some folks might feel desperate enough to go that route. Unfortunately, I think some fans (or potential fans) could be turned off by the ticket-buying frenzy and just decide David’s not that important.

  • SashaB

We saw reports of fans from all fanbases (DC, Archie, MJ, Castro) who went to a number of AI stops during the summer. I recall seeing/reading recaps of some fans who went numerous times for a 4 or 5 set concert. Boggles my mind to be honest. I guess peeps are free to spend their time and money in different ways, but how many times can you watch dancing pop tarts? Heh. The AI tour was fun and amusing, but I don’t know if I could’ve handled more than 1 or 2 times – let alone 6 or 8.

As for post AI, I’m okay with the roving groupie travelers – er, as long as they don’t bring Flat Davids or Angel wings or gnome signs. Heh.

Anyhow, I read that tickets to DC’s Ameristar concert sold out in 6 minutes. And the box office agents were on the same system as the peeps trying to buy online. So that meant by the time the agent got to person #3 in line, the tickets were sold out. Now if I had been person #3 waiting and freezing my bum outside, I would have been pissed. I mean, really. I think it varies by venue, to be honest. Best thing is to check what the venue box office might recommend. I got tickets to the AC Borgata show by calling the box office; thankfully I was able to score tickets. I was also trying online, but the system kept crashing out on me.

  • KathyH

I hope the UK release of Somebody Out There means that Jive will eventually release that song on something more than a pre-order album. That song is not only my favorite DA album song, but also one of my favorite songs, period. Fits my longtime relationships (all of them) better than most songs.

On the touring. The Idols were on our TVs for quite a while and people developed an affection for their music and their persons. I’m not surprised that fans of all ages and types want to go to one or more concerts. (I’m seeing DA in Oklahoma — a five hour drive but it’ll be the girls’-weekend-out that I haven’t had in a while.) I can’t get to another one — not practical — but you can bet if I could, I would. Life’s short, I’m not ashamed of following my bliss.

On the touring. The Idols were on our TVs for quite a while and people developed an affection for their music and their persons. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not surprised that fans of all ages and types want to go to one or more concerts. (Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m seeing DA in Oklahoma à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ a five hour drive but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be the girlsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢-weekend-out that I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t had in a while.) I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get to another one à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ not practical à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ but you can bet if I could, I would. Lifeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s short, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not ashamed of following my bliss.

There is nothing wrong with taking a roadtrip to see a show by a favorite artist. But, if that artist is doing a tour with extremely limited seating at all venues, and a small set of fans are taking up a number of the tickets at multiple shows because they are attending all those shows, then, yeah, that IS shamefully selfish. Not to mention the fact that it actually holds back their favorite artist’s success because he’s not widening his fanbase as much.

David Archuleta will be appearing on Hannah Montana, as he reports on his latest blog.

    Excerpt:

Another thing that happened over the last week is I went to LA to film my guest appearance on Hannah Montana haha. It was another thing I was really nervous about and wasn’t really sure about at first. However, once I got there I had a great time! Everyone there was fun and Miley was a cool person to hang out with. She has a lot of energy and is really funny haha.
