Idol Headlines for 01/14/12

Interesting thing about the Paul and Nikki article…didn’t recognize him without the beard (think he looks better with) and sounds like he definitely has an album with his band, not solo…

And to share about Scotty…on Brad’s tour last night, Brad brought him out to perform “Celebrity” with him (brought out TBP for a song the night before).  The irony doesn’t escape me…so Keith Urban pitched the kid a song with a line about getting sick of them tv shows and Brad has Scotty perform a song dissing reality shows.  Not saying anything bad about either Keith or Brad, very appreciative of their helping Scotty, but also loving the humor…

That looks nothing like Paul McDonald from American Idol…

Paul has an album coming out? Hardly any one would know it, considering the total lack of news about it. Is he releasing it himself? Or did some label sign him?

Is there a pap that sits outside of Nikki’s house taking pictures all day because how many snaps have we seen of them out walking the dog? It’s not like they are walking the dog around the Ivy all day, are they?

Paul looks totally different. I usually hate facial hair, but I think I’ve grown used to his because I think he should grow it back.

Paul is one of those men who have, IMO, a weak chin. He needs to grow back the beard PRONTO.

Wow.  You can barely even recognize Paul in those photos.  I’m also putting in a vote to bring back the beard.  ASAP!

haha you noticed that too? not sure if Keith or Brad (or even Scotty) are trying to say something…I have to say tho im curious to see Scotty sing Celebrity

i’m sure he does but there’s been no promo about it at all. And as far as I know, he doesn’t have a label deal. So unless someone follows him on twitter, how would we know about this album?

There’s a video of it on YouTube, but it has bad sound quality. There is a lot of interaction of Scotty with the crowd & a lot of fans screaming. You can at least tell that the crowd loved it. Here’s the video if anyone wants to see.

Paul has been an independent artist, so he probably still has the mentality of an independent artist.  He knows that he won’t sell a lot of albums by using this method of promoting his music, but he may feel that he is going to sell more than he would have if he didn’t appear on AI.  Plus, he gets to have total control of his music, and doesn’t have to split any profits with a label or proper management firm.

Love the humor too Lexie…but I’m probably one of the few who doesn’t think that AI, The Voice, SYTYCD, XFactor are “reality” shows…I consider them “competitions” because as opposed to “reality” shows like the Kardashians, Real Housewives, Teen Moms, etc., who in my opinion have no real talent to offer, the kids on the singing shows and SYTYCD actually are talented…just saying! lol

I love Brad’s humor in his songs. I agree that AI, The Voice, XF, etc. are not  more competitions than reality. However there are some shows people consider competitions which the contestants have no talent like Survivor, Big Brother, etc. Those shows have competitions, but I would not consider any of them talented.

Actually many ex-singing competition alumni like Kelly hate reality shows in general. But they watch the singing shows.

I ‘m not convinced that is Paul walking with Nikki Reed. I’m so used to see those blinding teeth, I guess ,so that if he is not smiling, the entire shape of his face is different.

Here is a video of James Durbin performing Crawling Home for the first time. I think it was very good. This song is kinda a copy of Mama i’m Coming Home, by Ozzy, but I’m starting to like it.

You’re right - I should have described the AI, Voice, etc as talent competitions, not just competitions which is too broad a term when you consider the many competitions where talent isn’t the main factor, or even a factor at all.

I don’t want to be sarcastic or anything but it seems to me that Paul’s new profession is Nikki’s husband. I don’t know if it’s the fact that he married a millionaire and very famous actress, but it’s like he’s totally despising the natural marketing that came with his appearance on American Idol.

I hate to say this, but I don’t think the media would be interested in Paul McDonald if he was not married to Nikki Reed.

Is that really Paul?  I’m having a hard time being convinced that’s really him.

I completely agree with you guys….I’ve said it before on these pages…Paul has become Mr. Nikki Reed and has essentially squandered an incredible post-Idol opportunity by standing on the sidelines at Twilight events and taking endless walks with his dogs.  We get that he fell in love, got engaged & married very quickly and is taking some time to enjoy himself as the spouse of a movie personality (I think the term movie star is pushing it, frankly :)) but there have certainly been serious implications to all that chillin’. Really, let’s be serious, I can’t imagine he prefers to NOT have a record deal and formal representation and serious promotion behind him vs, a tweet now and again from his wife.  There’s no talk of any of those materializing that that I’ve seen anywhere, and it’s still unclear to me from the tweets whether this alleged upcoming album is solo or not.  There’s no mention of the Grand Magnolias anywhere anymore, or any new activity on the band’s site, so who knows?  It could just be a bunch of random guys he’s jamming with from home for this new album….I suspect these little snippets are kept deliberately obtuse and unclear so as not to upset the Grand Mags fans too much.  What IS clear is that his loyal fans are getting restless…they want to hear some new tunes and see him move forward with his career in a meaningful way and we are rooting for him…but for how much longer?  Sounds like we’re all getting incredibly bored with these pap shots, eh?  And if you’re listening, Paul, which you should be, be sure to include “Poem” and that fabulous duo you did with Kendra on the steps of the recording studio in Nashville last year on this new album…both awesome!  The latest one, um, not so much.

David Archuleta may not be as big a star as Kelly or Carrie but he’s definitely taking a risk and making sacrifices both personal and professional going away for two years. I thought that one of the biggest risks he took was so publicly announcing that he was going away for two years to serve a Mormon mission. In following the Republican presidential primaries, it is obvious that a large segment of the US population still distrusts that religion, with some even labeling it a cult. Neither Romney nor Huntsman have been interested in highlighting their Mormon background. Fortunately, the media has been overall positive about his decision and if anything, it seems like there has been more interest in what David is doing since the announcement. I guess that’s an example of a risk leading to a positive outcome.

Wow Paul really look diffferent in that pictures :o , but glad to know he’s writing and ready to release and to continue his career. 

And thanks for Scotty video , the tour with Brad look like a lot of fun !! :)

I think so too, James is great in that video, good vocals, confident in his interaction with the audience, the song is good too…The problem with James(JMO) is that he’s not taken seriously by some people and trying too hard to bring back music from another era, imitating singers etc, I’m not talking about his vocals but his style. I like his album a lot, but I don’t fallow him closely to know how much acceptance he has from the “hard-rock community”  for his career in the future, maybe it is too soon for such short time. They are the “best” judges or fierce ones to qualify him as part of by passing the test with his album. They are not necessarily looking for best vocals but the proper drums you have as instrument and the special beat you have(from different comments I’ve read from a hard band I like) ) they are very instrumental sound-picky along with other thinks. Hope he’ll have a good musical career, I don’t get from him the fake artistic vibe, but he has some work to do. I think he unwisely uses elements he thinks are good to make a musical/artistic statement to show what he likes and wants to do, but I think his musical expression is in the “blood” though. Till he’s proving me wrong, it’s what I get.

Just read the NY piece about the Today show people and Ryan.  Story kind of mean spirited.   Ryan might just surprise them all one of these days.   Nope, not a great Seacrest fan, but not liking the tone of this story.

UGH forever at that Haley “article”. Read the comments following it and some Nick Jonas fans were saying how he couldn’t have been at that jazz show because he was rehearsing for a musical in NY. So this article is probably a bunch of BS. If this situation actually did occur then I’m not sure which mental image would be more unpleasant; Stefano making out with Haley “frequently” or Nick Jonas being interested in her…Sigh…Counting down the days till I get some legit Haley MUSIC news. Maybe we will get some in February. :/

At least Kris has been tweeting song lyrics. Better than nothing. Would love it if Haley did something similar. *AGirlCanDream*

James sounds phantastic, and I like how relaxed he comes across, and good interaction with the audience. Can’t wait to hear the rest of the set. *impatience anticipation is growing*

“Crawling Home” belongs to my 3-4 top favourites of the album (they still change, which I see as a good sign, but it is almost always among them), and it’s really a pity it’s not on the regular version. 

And Paul really belongs to the very few exemplars among the male species who look better with a beard. :D

That Stefano-Haley-Jonas story screams like one that someone tipped off PEOPLE just for some publicity

I hadn’t heard this Crawling Home song by James before and it is really good, and he sounds fantastic doing it live.  Again I must say, it’s such a shame that Wind Up and/or James chose Love Me Bad as his first single.  It was a major mistake on their part I think.  Thanks for posting.

I can’t believe that story about Haley & Stefano even made it into People.  It was such non-news.

Stefano and Haley seems like such an odd ball couple to me but at least their getting their names out there in the celebrity gossip magazines or rags to some people. It would be nice for them to get some music out first though.

I wanted to see why Adam’s picture was there and I notice the stupid comparison. Really? Why are people still comparing Adam Lambert to James Durbin?. Adam can sing anything live or in the studio. I guess some people feel that they should compare them to make James look good. It’s not working that way for me. 

I agree it’s stupid. Unfortunately, that’s the only studio version of Crawling Home that’s uploaded on Youtube as part of that dumb comparison video :)

BigNLiddle, funny updates, thanks. I was just reading about it from Andy Skib (David’s friend and rhythm guitarist) and Bryan Jewett’s POV, which is also funny.  They are all there to see Ryan Star and Dallin Applebaum…sounds like a fun night in LA.

Brad has started the tour pranks on Scotty. There was a picture during the show on the screen & it showed Scotty with a 12 pack & a speedo.

The last I heard, Nick Jonas was dating the Australian singer Delta Goodrem. The Australian media made a big deal out of them being refused VIP entry to a casino somewhere, because she wasn’t immediately recognised and he looked (and maybe actually was – how old is he anyway?) underage.

I was thinking the same thing! Kris would do something like that. All of those songs seem to have a good shot at making his album. He’s tweeted lyrics from “Out Alive”, “I’m Coming Over”(Not entirely sure about that one, but the lyrics do fit the snippet.)and now “Leave You Alone”. If he is indeed tweeting his album track list then I hope he tweets lyrics from “You Got A Way”, and “Shut That Door” too. Love those songs.

I think it was the last song, when Brad has Scotty & TheBandPerry come out with him to close the show.  They were all just singing (sorry, I don’t remember which song it was) and the big screen behind them had different pictures popping up, and all of a sudden there was this huge pic with Scotty’s head but a body-builder’s body.  Scotty had turned to look at Brad & saw himself and about doubled over with laughter.  My friend might have captured it on video.  If she did, I’m sure she’ll try to upload if the sound was good.

As for Scotty’s performance as the opener, he was very good and the crowd loved him.

The song was “Alcohol” by Brad. He always closes the show during tours with that song & all his tour acts come out during the song.

I’m still a bit in awe at the fantastic deal Scotty landed for his first tour.  I can’t imagine a setup more perfect for him.  Brad’s tours are always popular plus The Band Perry is a big draw, so he is definitely getting exposure to some who may not be familiar with him yet.  Add Scotty’s fans and the result is pretty much packed venues.  I checked ticket availability for remaining concerts last night, and there are already sold-out houses and several with only scattered singles left.  Seats in venues that still have two together are mainly in the distant nosebleeds.

I’m glad you say that, wordnerdarchie, because I remember you said the jury was still out for you.  Not to put words in your mouth, but I’ll take “very good” from an impartial observer:)))

I so hope Brad keeps Scotty along for the rest of the year–and comes somewhere near me!!

I noticed Jonas Brothers are also from Hollywood Records. Jonas was probably introduced to Stefano. If anything happened it was staged to death…

Nick has 19 , i saw too many picture from both in different quotidian  activities like going to the supermarket, walking , shopping  ….. looks like a  legit relationship to me. He still young and i can perfectly see him looking other girls lol …… but for real he is like real serious person.
