I actually think Danny has one of the best voices in the competition. Unfortunately Mommy and Daddy Noriega didn’t have the forsight/time/resources/pageantzilla parenting mindset/fill-in-the-blank to get Danny the same training that David A got.

I also love that he fully embraces the genre–Elvis for the 60′s, Superstar-Carpenter Style (thank goodness), and maybe Tainted Love (truly 80′s).

Think he’s on the bubble for top 12, but we’ll see.

I am hoping for some serious hair band music. I just looked up the top 100 of the 1980′s… boring!

I like Danny and his voice too. Hopefully he’ll sing something that will connect with the judges and with the audience. I really want him to tour. Three more weeks. He can hang on three more weeks. He must hang on three more weeks – for me. David H too. I want to see them live on tour.

I hope that the iTunes rumor is true. I’m anxious to hear the contestants sing current music. Hopefully, they will sing songs I’ve heard before. I had not heard quite a few of the songs sung so far and I did not like a lot of them after hearing them for the first time.

I’ve got something. I get to go the taping of the boys on Tuesday through a friend of a family member of one of the contestants (all I can say about that). I’ve been told a few things about the show, and I will post after the rehearsal if I can about the other song choices and how they all do. What my friend has heard is that David Cook will be doing White Wedding by Billy Idol and that David Archuleta is doing Journey – either Open Arms or Don’t Stop Believing. It was also confirmed that Danny is singing Tainted Love. I will let you know when I know more.

Could Muppet boy be any more predictable? Yay for Tainted Love and White Wedding. I was afraid David C. would bore us with more Bryan Adams and Bon Jovi.

Tainted Love is a fun song but I can see the judges slamming that choice. He better bring it.

And I have a funny feeling if we did a little you tube search we could see where it was performed on Star Search….. I want to hear “Muppet Boy” do something he’s never done before and figure out his own take on it all by himself. I guess that’s my issue with him, so far he’s performed songs he’s done before and I assume (which leaves PLENTY of room for the ass u me thing) he’s been given help with his interpretations. I was HIS take and to know it’s just his for him to earn some cred from me! (he’s definitely wondering how I personally feel I am sure) Does that make sense?

Some of the songs on IGetCranked’s list are a little overdone on the Idol stage. Why sings Father Figure, Open Arms, or Every Breath You Take when others before have sung them well? Maybe the three people who chose these can pull an Elliott (I Don’t Wanna Be), or maybe there just weren’t better songs.

I like that list for the most part! Should be an entertaining evening.

I know people get angry when people redo songs by their favourites, but give these kids a break. They only get to pick from 50 songs (and, apparently, two of those 50 songs are “Celebration” and “We Built this City”). If “Father Figure” or “Open Arms” or whatever are the only choices that suit their style, they have to go for it.

Take it as a compliment (this isn’t directed at the OP, just at people who would be annoyed by people re-doing songs). After 6 seasons of Idol and due to the limited effort Nigel goes through to get things cleared (especially for the fodder), we have to expect some repeats.

Clive Davis forced “Open Arms” upon Elliott during Final 3 week. Awful choice. It worked to get him sent home. I have mp3s of all of Elliott’s AI appearances but I never listen to that song nor the song Paula chose for him. Neither was right for him, IMO.

I would be happy if no one ever sang “Open Arms” on Idol again. I guess I may have to suffer once more though. *sigh*

The only other song on the list of 16 that I don’t like is “Always Something There To Remind Me”. I wonder who got stuck with that. Probably one of the fodder people. Actually, I don’t think I’ve heard “What About Love”.

Things that make you go hmm indeed. I hate being a conspiracy theorist, and I doubt it was a conspiracy against Jason per se, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the judges wanted to reserve a couple of songs for their chosen one.

Correct. AI has typically gone live on top 16 week. At least, it was that way for both season 5 and 6. I’m not sure about the other seasons. I imagine that they pretape the first two weeks to make sure they can get everything in due to time constraints.

I just watched the American Idol Rewind show from Season 2′s disco night. That’s the song Josh Gracin sang and Simon hated it. Told Josh if he had sung like that when he first auditioned for the show, he never would have made it.

This is a terrible, terrible story (and could have become a tragedy) about a little girl who almost drowned in the tub while her mom was watching Idol. *Vows to only let Idol distract me from my work, not from being a parent.*

I’m flippin out!! I actually have been watching this season thanks to my DVR. Its more surreal now that I’m off the show watching it. It feels like I was beamed into space and I wasn’t on this planet last year. It gonna rock being back on that stage.

There must have been a slip or something, because the popularity lines are back. The album results you get by searching “American idol performance” and clicking “see all” that I posted before are for the most part ordered by popularity, but there are some differences.

I took a snapshot of the songs listed in popularity order just in case iTunes fixes this.

By the way, David’s Imagine is FAR FAR FAR ahead of everyone else. Looks like he’s out-selling the second place song (his Shop Around) at least 6 to 1.

I didn’t care for David’s version of Imagine (too OTT for me), but I guess I’m in the minority. I noticed that John Lennon’s version is in the overall top 100 of iTunes. Perhaps David can repeat it if it’s still there on top 11 night.

Any of the list of spoilers country songs? I was thinking of Kristy (at least I think that was who it was) saying she would be singing a country song this week after Simon telling her that is what she should be doing. Of course, did the producers even include any country songs on their list of 50? When you take into account genres the whole 50 songs thing gets even worse. You might get a few choices if you are lucky (especially given that I am less than impressed with many of the producers apparent choices). Like Randy telling Amanda to do “bluesy rock”, how many songs that you can make fit that genre are likely to be in a typical list 80s songs?

Maybe there are no breathing problems because the breaks between phrases in Imagine are so long. In the group song, however, it was back to the gasping. IMO, there’s not much room for little D to grow. He’s already a pro.

This song is indeed a favorite karaoke tune where I’m from. My friends and I even won some Coke tumblers (much like the ones the judges are using) for singing it at a karaoke booth at a local university fair a few years ago. LOL

“Every Time You Go Away” was sung by Anthony Federov in the Season 4 CD and I don’t want to hear anyone else singing it. Journey had so many great songs, I had hoped they would pass on “Open Arms” this year.

I think David A. could probably sing every song on this list, yet I am rooting for Jason Castro. I hope he gets an umptempo song!

As for David Hernadez, you know they do background checks. I am sure they didn’t intend for him to last this long, but a quick check would have showed his employment at the club. It’s getting AI attention, not the best kind, but attention none the less. Besides, he’s got an AWESOME voice!

Even if they can’t DQ him, I am sure the producers will find a way to make him leave this week (give him last minute bad song selection, bad judges comments, etc). Too bad, he was my favorite of the guys, and I could care less about his background. What I don’t get is why VFTW outed him, because isn’t VFTW’s Dave Della Terza gay? Are they gonna dig up the dirt on Danny next? This witch hunt bs really pisses me off.

I think the only way David H would be disqualified for that would be if he didn’t tell the producers about it. They’ve seemed in the past few years to allow people to stay on the show (Scott Savol anyone?) as long as they were made aware of any past “indiscretions” in advance. Now, it affecting whether or not people vote for him, I could see that happening. But he might also get people voting for him who haven’t before. I think it’s a shame if it hurts him in the long run though… he has a fabulous voice.

But seriously, what people (*cough*clubowner*cough*) won’t do for money and exposure.

Yeah, I don’t think they’ll disqualify him, either. I do think they would probably like the problem to go away before top twelve, though. I’m sure AI is happy for any media discussion, heh, it’s all publicity. David being in top twelve would be more problematic for them. And I definitely think they would prefer that he not be in top 10 and then go on tour. Look for David H. and Luke to get bad comments from the judges tonight, regardless of how they really do. (Chickizie, too, if he’s really doing “Celebration”)

Re David H. – Exotic dancing isn’t illegal. It is, however, something that will upset some of the folks watching the show. I don’t think the PTB should (or will) try to maneuver his boot this week, because they will figure the audience will take care of that for them soon enough. But we’ll see.

I figure whoever gets saddled with Celebration is the one the PTB want to go home, and We Built This City. Although, I can see Carly doing Grace Slick power pop, so who knows?
