HDD – Album Sales Prediction : June 22-28

A few weeks ago, we had no blog representatives on the charts, and this week we have a plethora – well three, but that’s a plethora compared to nothing which we had for what seemed like a long while before Adam last week.

With 76.48% of reports in, Tori Kelly is our highest charter. She was an auditioner from Idol that did not make it past the Hollywood Rounds, but she didn’t let that stop her. She’s already had one hit pop single and she is well on her way to having her second. Her debut album, “Unbreakable Smile” has been estimated to sell between 55K and 60K with another 10K in TEAs and SEAs.

Canaan Smith is also debuting his first album today, although he has released an EP prior to this. His label has been patient and his current single is sitting in the top 10 on Country after being released almost a year ago. He is currently 13th in sales and might be able to finish in the top 15 on the Album chart. Canaan Smith comes to us from The Amazing Race.

And, in his second week, we have Adam Lambert at 23rd. Adam was second on the 8th Season of Idol and this is his 3rd studio album. His single “Ghost Town” is climbing. The song should soon start supporting itself (i.e. pushing sales into the top 100), but like most Pop artists, Adam is likely going to need a second hit to start supporting album sales (one hit and casual fans buy the song….two hits and people start thinking about buying the album). That’s not true of all formats and all artists.

Now 54 is at 18th and features Tori Kelly, Kelly Clarkson and One Direction. Now 53 at 46th features One Direction.

Breaking Benjamin will have the number one album of the week. This is their first album in six years and their first album to top the BB200. Of course, they are largely changed with only front-man Benjamin Burnley remaining since that last album. Kacey Musgraves was a critical success (and a new female face on Country music) with her first album and her second album is set to debut 3rd. James Taylor was number one last week (for the first time) and fourth this week. Leon Bridges (Gospel/Soul) is debuting at 5th and Taylor Swift is currently at sixth (third of fourth on the combined chart). “Teen Beach 2” is another soundtrack from the Disney Channel movies debuts at 7th and Ed Sheeran continues to enjoy success at 8th. Sam Hunt and the Zac Brown Band make it 3 Country acts in the top 10.
