Fox has decided to air a special re-cut one hour episode of Tuesday’s aborted X Factor, rather than airing the entire 2 hour original. This is to accommodate most of Tuesday’s half-hour comedies and also, I’m assuming, to not turn off viewers who have already seen the episode.  I’m glad I don’t have to slog through, what would essentially be a repeat to me. FOX will extend it’s prime time to 10:30 ET, in order to air X Factor at 9:30 pm ET.

Oh. And it also means X Factor will not compete directly with The Voice at 8 pm. Finally, a smart decision from FOX. The Voice would have kicked its butt.

Read the press release below.

On Tuesday, Oct. 23, the New FOX Tuesday comedies keep the laughs coming with all-new episodes of RAISING HOPE (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT), BEN AND KATE (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT) and NEW GIRL (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT).  An all-new special one-hour episode of THE X FACTOR featuring the conclusion of the “Judges’ Homes” round airs during a special, extended prime from 9:30-10:30 PM ET/PT.

The Chances go on a couples retreat and Melanie Griffith, Wilmer Valderrama and Leslie Jordan guest-star on an all-new RAISING HOPE (8:00-8:30 PM ET/PT). In the episode, “If A Ham Falls in the Woods,” Jimmy (Lucas Neff) and Sabrina (Shannon Woodward) attend a marriage retreat led by a priest (Jordan) before they get married. Not wanting to miss out on a free vacation, Virginia (Martha Plimpton) and Burt (Garret Dillahunt) pose as a newly engaged couple so they can also attend. It becomes a true family affair when Sabrina’s mom, Tamara (Griffith), and her young lover, Ricardo (Valderrama), tag along.

In the all-new installment of BEN AND KATE (8:30-9:00 PM ET/PT), “Emergency Kit,” Kate (Dakota Johnson) challenges Ben (Nat Faxon) to be more prepared to take care of Maddie (Maggie Elizabeth Jones), and they all end up getting tested. Meanwhile, Ben’s crazy ex-girlfriend, Louise (guest star Lindsay Sloane), makes a surprise visit back into his life and BJ (Lucy Punch) might be developing real feelings for her boss, bar owner Buddy (guest star Rob Corddry).

In the all-new “Models” episode of NEW GIRL (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT), Jess (Zooey Deschanel) spends a wild night out with Cece (Hannah Simone) and her model friends, then jumps in the driver’s seat when she must fill in for Cece at a car show. Meanwhile, the guys question what defines male friendship after Schmidt (Max Greenfield) buys Nick (Jake Johnson) a sweet gift.

The competition on THE X FACTOR (9:30-10:30 PM ET/PT) kicks into high gear on a special all-new episode when the judges reveal which four acts in each of the four categories – Teens, Young Adults, Groups and Over 25s – continue on to the live shows.

Hmmm.  Sounds like FOX was more worried about trying to keep the momentum going for its Tuesday comedy line-up than trying to make Simon happy.  It kind of suggests where XF is falling on their list of priorities.

Simon is having to deal with being in the Fall means baseball reigns supreme, then the scripted shows, then reality stuff.  Ego check time.

I’m in favor of Abortion….when it comes to XFactor.

You just came from the political pages?

I don’t think that this is a slap in the face to the X Factor, especially since Fox’s Tuesday comedies don’t have any momentum.  Ratings for Raising Hope, the Mindy Project and Ben and Kate are horrible.  The hour version of the XF that was shown this past week was slow and boring.  There was no need for that episode to be two hours long.  There was a lot of unnecessary filler, and none of it involved showing any singing.  Somehow they ripped-off Idol’s boring Green Mile episode, but made it ten times more boring and bloated.

glad I won’t have to wait another week for a new ep of New Girl, but I’m pretty annoyed about The Mindy Project getting bumped.

I don’t watch X factor but I always loved the Green Mile episode.Maybe it was because I didn’t know who was getting through.

My only issue with the episode is that it is usually two hours long, which isn’t necessary.  One time they stretched it to three hours. For some contestants, AI does show the last audition that the contestants had in front of the judges, which breaks up the monotony.

A snappy one-hour episode is better anyway.  Most of the episode aired already.  The Voice would indeed have crushed in essence a rerun.  NCIS would have crushed X Factor too.  Dancing with the Stars would have been competitive.

In addition, the newly-updated schedule appeases most of Fox’s sitcom fans.  The Mindy Project will be bumped three times in a four-week span.  The other sitcoms will air as scheduled.

Happy Endings and Don’t Trust the B. in Apartment 23 have season debuts on ABC Tuesday.  Fox is throwing New Girl at Happy Endings and X Factor against Apartment 23 in hopes of weakening the opposition.

This is very good news all around. West coast “needs” to see the full show, East, the final hour, now 30minish. Most of the comedies air. Not, Mindy Project the freshmen comedy that probably is one and done. And, local news looses another half hour, but they expect that in Late Oct.

My question is, there is really nothing worth actually watching what is on the dvr from Wed nor what they show re-cut Tues. Is there? I expect we see the contestants cry and be happy and hug each other. We see the judgementors say scripted lines mostly for drama effect. With no new singing and not an indepth interview with the contestants that made it, why even bother to watch it? I don’t think being able to brag, “I’ve seen every episode of XF/Idol” really matters.

Personally, next season, even on Idol but also XF, I’ll use MJ’s a lot more. I’ll wait until just b4 live shows then once we know who made it to the lives, I will only watch all the 2min clips of singing available from those who made it. Save so much time b/c those that don’t make it to Lives will be nonames again and just another batch out of the millions singing wherever they can and indie/youtube putting out stuff. There is no sense in starting to get attached when they get cut for no apparent reason. We can’t follow millions or even Reality TV singing thousands of people around. And all the backstory drama is all the same. Which is so trivial when millions out there are struggling in those 3rd World Countries even 1st World. Watching there backstories doesn’t take me away from reality more than want me to figuratively smack them (mostly tv producers who only cast those with backstories) in the face and say hey you are way better off than millions, even billions, You like to sing and are real good at, good let’s hear you. I don’t need anything but your vocals to want to get more from you, covers and esp originals.

Sorry, I went on a rant.
Bottomline, should I bother to even watch what the DVR did record for WED and/or what will be re-cut TUE? Is there any worthwhile substance to gain from watching those? It did take me 11 years of Idol and now 2 years of XF and 3 years of Voice to finally call it quits on watching the full b4 lives. I have yet to 100% commit to even that. For some reason, “I have watched every min of every ep” seems like something for an addict like myself a worthwhile claim to be able to boast. Even though @ the same time Billions can’t do the same and probably don’t even want to as they are more concerned about where is their next meal, are they going to wake up when they go to sleep etc.
