Voting Begins After LIVE Performance Show Airing Wednesday, November 2, on FOX

Syco Television, FremantleMedia and FOX announced a partnership with Twitter to allow fans – for the first time in television – to cast votes for their favorite finalists on THE X FACTOR via Twitter; and fans also can vote via mobile App with Verizon Touch Voting on The Xtra Factor App.

Toll free calling and text message voting will open following each regional broadcast of the performance shows. America can vote for their favorite finalist(s) for at least two hours, subject to time zone restrictions.

Verizon, the show’s official voting sponsor, and THE X FACTOR will offer viewers five ways to vote, including:

  1.  Twitter – Fans can vote via Twitter using the instructions and prompt at twitter.thexfactorusa.com. Once fans sign up for Twitter, they must then follow @TheXFactorUSA and cast their votes via Direct Message. Direct Messaging is a private way to communicate on Twitter. Votes will not be publicly visible. Tweets will not count as votes.
  2. Verizon Touch Voting on The Xtra Factor App on Verizon Android devices – Verizon Wireless customers with compatible Android devices can get The Xtra Factor App by calling **XF. Then customers vote using Verizon Touch Voting by touching the image of their favorite finalist in the App during voting, directly following the live performance shows.
  3. Toll-free calling – Each week, viewers can call one of the designated telephone numbers – each one corresponding to one of the finalists – to cast their vote. The numbers are 1-855-THE-XF-01 (-02, -03, -04, -05, -06, -07, -08, etc).
  4. Text messaging for Verizon Wireless customers – THE X FACTOR viewers who are Verizon Wireless customers may also use text messaging to vote by texting the word “VOTE” to the four-digit short codes (9301, 9302, etc.) for the finalist(s) of their choice each week.
  5. Online at TheXFactorUSA.com. Fans with valid Facebook accounts can also vote at Facebook.com/TheXFactorUSA, giving The X FACTOR unprecedented online reach.

After the finalists perform LIVE on Wednesday, Nov. 2 (8:00-10:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed), voting will open for the first time. The first voting results will be revealed on the LIVE results show Thursday, Nov. 3 (8:00-9:00 PM ET live/PT tape-delayed) on FOX.

    So it’s unlimited voting?

Here’s the problem(s) with the Twitter voting. You cannot DM someone who is not following you. At this point @TheXFactorUSA is following 755 of 108,294 accounts. So unless they sit down and follow everyone following them, people aren’t going to be able to vote.

Also, do they not know how much spam they are going to get? I honestly don’t think they thought this thru. Unless twitter is changing things for them for promo..it’s a fail of a concept.

Only problem I have with unlimited voting is that it skews incredible young and female, thus the guys are given a leg up on the girls. :(

another question… people from outside the us will be able to vote via twitter??

  • Anonymous

So unless they sit down and follow everyone following them, people aren’t going to be able to vote.

Well, they wouldn’t have to “sit down” and follow everyone. There are automated programs that will do that for you easy peasy.

In fact? When you see a twitter account with a high number of followers *ahem* ;) they are likely using the automated software to follow back everyone who follows them. Also, these automated programs will follow accounts that align with your interests….and then will UNFOLLOW the account in a few days if they don’t follow back. A little configuration is all it takes, and it’s done for you.

And no, all 8K + of my followers have been earned the old fashioned way. ;)

So, it is unlimited voting?  Well, it really doesn’t matter since they sent Phillip home.

I will probably be too lazy to vote. I might throw a couple of votes here and there on facebook. Too many choices, lols.

imagine if brennin was still in ..WINNER :I there are a few acts that can still highly benefit from the texting like intensity, drew, rachel.

lol I had no doubt, MJ.

But that does open the above question now…anyone worldwide can vote via twitter, and it is sooo easy to make an account.

It doesn’t seem secure. I agree.

I think that Simon would see this as a good problem to have, since it would indicate widespread interest in the show.

All of this makes me realize that the small amount of time I’m willing to spend to cast a few votes will not matter one bit in the deluge of votes they will be getting in all of these formats.  I will not be power voting or power tweeting, so I probably won’t bother voting at all.  What’s the point?  Totally enjoying the show though!

This feels more like desperation “Hey everybody, look how social media hip we are! ” than anything else.

I think that since there are so many different methods, then there must be a limit to the number of votes that you can cast.

And if it is unlimited, i dont think it will be THAT BAD of a problem like it is on Idol…on Idol its bad bcuz unlimited voting favors white males and not women & minorites…but since there are like 2 white guys on xfactor (and chris rene isnt even caucausian) i dont see any one person or group having much of an advantage from it…i stillwish it was just a plain ‘ol 1-10 vote(s) vote for call/text/facebook/twitter…it just seems much easier that way…besides texting and calling, the other voting methods stated hear seem a little complicated to me lol..and im 21

Verizon has a prepaid plan similar to the ATT Go Phone plan used by Idol voters. Its also $20 month for unlimited messaging. The also have a $50 month all inclusive basic plan. The basic phone is $19.99.

Well with so many ways to vote, I guess it will be very possible for them to say a ‘record number of votes’.  Yawn.  So far, I am not jumping up and down about any of it.  So even if I could vote via smoke signal, or even telepathically I could care less, lol.

    TOO.MUCH.

Simon would probably love being able to brag that XF attracts more votes than Idol, as meaningless as that “victory” would be.  But I’m having a hard enough time getting encouraged enough to even watch the show, let alone be concerned about the voting setup.

I am thrilled with multiple voting methods. I am more likely to vote earlier on in the process with more than the phone votes. I think I voted more often during AI last year because I could do the facebook voting. I didn’t vote super high voting but I would vote 5 or 10 times for the people I liked.  The phone is too frustrating an endeavor with the busy signals.

Eh, it’s the same as making facebook account and voting through it. No big deal.

    yes

It sounds like this is going to result in a lot of incorrect vote tallies. Too many options are bound to lead to miscounting.
