“Cried” will precede Candice’s debut album Music Speaks which is set to be released on February 18, 2014. Though American Idol last year was hamped by many distractions thanks to producer decisions and judge shenanigans, there’s not much arguing with the talent that came out of Season 12. We can only hope that Candice’s album will live up to intelligence, variety, interpretive quality and dynamism she showed with her Idol covers, backed with sufficient promotion to make sure her music gets a chance to be heard on the radio, on TV, and online outlets.
“Cried” is a soulful, melodic and rangy ballad whose production gives Candice plenty of room to let her phrasing sell the lyric, and while you can tell with this song that Candice is a powerhouse singer, she avoids any temptation to showboat/oversing. Can it become an Urban AC radio hit? Here’s hoping.
