  • Lakisha Jones said on a radio interview this morning, that ONLY THE TOP 3 will get to sing duets with special musical guests.
  • There will be no hometown parties.   The original plan was to have them, but the producers thought otherwise and cancelled them.

  • According to this article, Sanjaya Malakar will  sport short, platinum blonde hair tonight, and sing a duet with  Steve Perry, former lead singer of Journey.

  • Kirsten

Nigel said yesterday during a television interview that Peter Noone will be doing a Medley with the kids of Herman’s Hermit’s Hits.

  • jersey

Also, according to calimari in the other thread, she heard Taylor on the radio this morning and he will be participating in a “Sgt. Pepper” medley with the kids. (Plus doing “Heaven Knows” which everyone knows already)

  • calimari

Yes – the DJ asked if it was going to be the “BeeGees” Sgt. Pepper & Taylor said no. Thank goodness, considering the results of BeeGees night…

    Spoiler Alert

Green Day is going to be on finale!

  • jersey

If Billy Joe Armstrong is going to be on, Chris will have to relinquish the title of “most guyliner on the idol stage”. What song could Green Day sing? Every song has f*ck in it!

  • Kirsten

Also, according to calimari in the other thread, she heard Taylor on the radio this morning and he will be participating in a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Sgt. Pepperà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ medley with the kids.

That’s a really good idea. Sanjaya can sing the Ringo parts (I love Sanjaya, but he gets nervous on stage). Maybe the producers will even have a sense of humour and have Jordin sing “When I’m 64″

  • jersey

    Well, Taylor can’t sing “when I’m 64″ – seeing as he’s already there (j/k).

  • radname

wow Green Day appearing on AI, so PUNKRAWK! Oh wait, weren’t they big three years ago?
the latest news (on IDF) is that the surprise guest dropped out and bette midler is stepping in.
    Yeah. I know.

  • Kirsten

According to the British tabs, Leona Lewis is back in LA. Perhaps she will make an appearance? There have been rumours about her being on the show all season.

  • sarahinwv

OOh YOU Joke-sters, you !!! That was funny banter.. Kirsten… take your show on the road, babe. Now…. back to this question…. anyone know which “King”?… They mentioned on “Idol whatever” that they couldn’t have Janet Jackson… no mention of MJ…hmmmm? (Kirsten… I really meant that !! U R funny !!) :mellow_tb: :smile1_tb: :laugh_tb: :laugh_tb:

  • Kerri

Bette Midler??? UGH…. I wonder who the surprise guest was supposed to be.

I am looking forward to tonight. I hope Doug E. Fresh works it out with Idol. It would be awesome to see him on the show. Green Day should be good.

So, I guess Britney isn’t confirmed yet?

  • jpfan

Peter Noone doing a medley of his hits??? Maybe it’ll be a tribute to British invasion stuff including the Beatles. This finale seems very weird so far. It’s mostly older acts and now Green Day???

  • LB2

Please, AI, if you care for Blake at all – Doug E. Fresh…

What song could Green Day sing? Every song has f*ck in it!

He can just turn his head and cover his mouth like Adam Levine did. :)

Bette Midler? Is that serious? Because I would actually rather see *** than her. :S

  • Lisa B

Nothing on Leona’s official fansite or myspace.

Her fans are slighty upset that she hasn’t been seen anywhere lately.

  • Kerri

Yes, please AI…just give me Doug E. Fresh. That would make my night. Bette Midler, not so much. :)

Have they ever had a rapper/beatboxer on the show before?

  • longsong

Aw, where’s the Bette love? She and Melinda could sing a duet, “We Have No Necks”. It would RAWK!!

  • Lisa B

I have a soft spot for Bette, she can certainly sell a song. She also puts on a good show.

Maybe she and Manilow could team up for a rehash of their Turkish Bath days?

  • WVIdolFan

What other singer does clive have that needs to plug their flagging album that hasn’t been on AI already this year? Thats probably who the surprise guest will be.

  • sarahinwv

I like Bette !! Okay… I said this from the beginning :::: a Dreamgirls themed finale… I knew it, knew it , knew it!!!!!!! That’s gonna be great ! I wish Eddie Murphy could be there !!! Jennifer’s gonna say to Lakisha ” Sit , down girl… lemme show ya why I won an Oscar !!!” WOOOO TAYLOR !!!!!! LOVE YOU !!!!!

  • jersey

You mean besides Kat and Taylor?

  • bean99

Green Day would be fine but not really thrilled at the idea of Bette Midler. I also am hoping Peter Noone doing a medley of his hits is a joke on Nigel’s part. I liked him in British Invasion week but that was enough. I do hope the Doug E. Fresh rumor is true for Blake’s sake. They owe him after last night, lol.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I also am hoping Peter Noone doing a medley of his hits is a joke on Nigel’s part.

I watched that clip, and I thought it might be a joke, too

  • jersey

I don’t know, MJ. Peter Noone was on the tv guide channel live yesterday and I believe he said the same thing.

  • beachn

    Bette will be great.
You young’uns are in for a treat !!
Can I say “The Rose” ???

  • lg

Also, according to calimari in the other thread, she heard Taylor on the radio this morning and he will be participating in a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Sgt. Pepperà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ medley with the kids. (Plus doing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Heaven Knowsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ which everyone knows already)

That sounds fantastic. This should be a great final show. Looking forward to the Sgt. Pepper medley. I would also love to see Taylor duet with Gladys, but know that prolly won’t happen.

I guess AI is still riding the nu-rock train with Green Day as the headliners. radname’s right, they’re a little, um, passe’, no?

Can’t wait to see Joe Perry rock it out tonite.

Hope the rumor that Melinda will perform with Bebe and Cece Winans is true. And for the love of all things holy, let’s hope the Britney rumor from Perez Hilton proves false. I would much rather see the Divine Ms. M than that no-talent lip syncher Britney Spears.

  • sarahinwv

lg…ditto about The Divine Ms. M !! Hey… the Sgt. Pepper thing.. Phil will be grrrrreat !!

MJ, I think I have a genuine spoiler. Lakisha confirmed on the radio this morning that she would not have a duet with anyone, but the top 3 will. I heard the interview and she sounded way disappointed.

The article below suggests that Sanjaya was given a duet instead of Lakisha. She was essentially bumped out of one. His duet is with Steve Perry of Journey. So much for singing competition, eh? Ah the contradictions – we all know this is ultimately a buzz competition.

    http://pressherald.mainetoday.com/story.php?id=107594&ac=PHnws

  • eyin

I thought Dreamgirls is over already? What the heck?

  • sarahinwv

Oh.. Dreamgirls is only rumored.. ah, well….can Steve Perry still hit those notes ????

  • Kerri

Oh great….Sanjaya with platinum blonde hair singing with the lead singer of effing Journey….just shoot me now. :guns_tb:

    Doug E. Fresh…Doug E. Fresh….Doug E. Fresh. (maybe if i chant he will show up…lol)

  • Sunny D

I heard on the radio this morning that DWTS beat out AI in viewers last night…whoa

  • panz

Any hope for a Carrie/Kelly duet?

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I guess AI is still riding the nu-rock train with Green Day as the headliners. radname’s right, they’re a little, um, passe’, no?

They put out a pretty good album last year. They aren’t dead yet. Although, at this point, they may have matured beyond the teeny-bopper set.

  • Kerri

American Idiot sold 5 million copies not too long ago, so I don’t think Green Day is too far removed from what is popular today.

  • Kirsten

MJ, I think I have a genuine spoiler. Lakisha confirmed on the radio this morning that she would not have a duet with anyone, but the top 3 will. I heard the interview and she sounded way disappointed.

The article below suggests that Sanjaya was given a duet instead of Lakisha. She was essentially bumped out of one.

If that is true, it is vastly unfair. I’m sure that there is some filler that they could have dumped so that Lakisha could do a duet. It’s becoming less and less about the contestants.

  • Abilymom

Melinda Doolittle performs with Bebe and Cece Winans

What, are DeDe and FeFe Winans busy tonight?

  • Kirsten

I’m predicting that the following conversation will occur in the Green Room tonight:

    [Taylor sidles up to Blake]:
Taylor: So, those coronation songs…kind of takes carp to a new level, doesn’t it?

Kelly: Hey, well, you guys were lucky. You at least had a warning from past seasons. You can just imagine the shock that Justin and I had when we first got a gander at ours.

Carrie: [Laughing] Sorry, I love Bo, but you should have seen the expression on his face when he saw the title “Inside Your Heaven”. I thought his eyes were going to roll right out of his head. Oh, man.

  • http://www.xanga.com/werwanderflugen Preston

    Oh nevermind. Deleted post.

Carrie: [Laughing] Sorry, I love Bo, but you should have seen the expression on his face when he saw the title à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Inside Your Heavenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . I thought he was going puke. Oh, man.

I love Bo, too, but I surely would have loved to have seen that. lol

I would have loved to have seen Blake’s initial reaction to This Is My Now, as well.

  • Lisa B

    Probably verbatim Kirsten. :laugh_tb:

  • http://www.graycharles.com/ graycharles

Seriously, someone help me out. What’s with the “Team Plaid” thing? Shouldn’t it be “Team Argyle”? Is it to late to change? This is a serious flaw in strategy that could spell Blake’s doom.

    Argyle

    Plaid

  • vegasdee

Yes, please AIà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦just give me Doug E. Fresh. That would make my night. Bette Midler, not so much. :)

    Ditto.

I heard the same thing on the radio, that DWTS beat out AI.

  • MaryS-NJ

Yay! I like Green Day! But I’m old and unhip so what do I know?

So, who is “the King” of which Uncle Nigel spoke yesterday? Any other hints?

If they are still “negotiating” with Doug E. Fresh, I’m thinking it’s a no-go. I’ll betcha that 19E doesn’t want to pony up for his appearance fee.

If that is true, it is vastly unfair. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure that there is some filler that they could have dumped so that Lakisha could do a duet. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s becoming less and less about the contestants.

Oh no, come on. Who needs more good singing when we can have filler – like Jonathan and that kid Simon called a “Bushbaby”. Or, or another visit from the Crying Girl, or a parade of bored-looking celebs from Fox TV programs in the audience.

Last year’s cheesy filler was melted Velvetta at it’s oozy best. Remember the Ronetta retrospective? She made the show! And Puck and Pickler? That was some fine TeeVee right thar. And a reprise of wacky former contestants Crazy Dave and that Sandecki kid? Doesn’t everyone love the filler best of all?

I’m sure they’ve spared no expense of this year’s filler. After all, they saved all they money last season by wrapping the Idol tour stage in tinfoil.

I mean, who wants meat when you can have the cheese sauce. [/snark]

    :rolleyes_tb:

  • http://airincaol.com coco

Some News Network just said that the “Special Guest” would be equally as HUGE as Prince(the surprise last year)…….Being old and feeble and UnHip like I am, does that qualify Green Day?….I am just asking.

  • leejolem

GC, oh ye of little faith–Blake wore plaid pants with an argyle sweater. Stop with the knit-picking.

  • Kerri

Coco – I don’t think Green Day qualifies.

  • StopBeingWeird

Green Day? Gah, talk about suckage.

I’d gladly have them trade Green Day for Sherman Pore.

  • sarahinwv

    Ok.. $100 says it’s M. Jackson….um..$20 bucks…ok…… .30 cents… that’s all I have right now… :glurps_tb: :money_mouth_tb:

Well, apparantly Mary and I are the only two looking forward to Green Day tonight. :smile1_ee:

  • vegasdee

Maybe Clive will be trotting out Whitney………..

  • Kerri

Dee you are prolly right. Whitney would be huge in their eyes.

  • MaryS-NJ

    Maybe Clive will be trotting out Whitneyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..

That would actually make sense, although I think Clive is phoning in orders from someplace else this season.

Well if Prince is the Prince then who is the “King”? This is keeling me here! Inquiring minds wanna know.

Or maybe they will announce the brilliant!shimmering!international pop sensation! Leona Lewis.

  • http://airincaol.com coco

I am just wishing and a hoping that we will not see any awards given away(singing cowboy’s,rhonetta, etc)…….Afterall it is a “SINGING” competition—-so I wanna see wall to wall singing…..oh nevermind I know that the 3 stooges(randy-pauler-simon) are masters at Talking out bofe aka both sides of their *ss or is it mouth or are these 2 orifices one and the same when it comes to the stooges. Kerri…TY ..in my survey here everyone is in agreement with you that Prince and Green Day are at different levels of HUGEness.

  • longsong

Ooh! Maybe it’s EL DIVO!!! :jittery_tb:

No, wait – we already saw them. Darn. :dry_tb:

  • cheese

I hope it’s Green Day and I hope they sing American Idiot. Whitney or Bette would make me really regret missing Lost.

I am still giggling from the Daughtry guitar poses and the utter direness of “I Believe This is My Moment Like Now” How did they find a song with no melody?

  • http://airincaol.com coco

I prefer a Whitney trot out to a Leona Lewis reveal ..anyday…..I just hope they let ole Elvis RIP.

  • crewzer1

kerri – it’s Joe Perry (as MJ stated above) of Aerosmith, not Steve Perry of Journey!! And IMO, Green Day would be a great performance, they are fun to watch. At this point, who cares who’s on the show – it will be two grueling hours, just like every other year.

Also, I have to say that journalists who just write articles because AI is so popular need to stop!! I am so sick of reading “their opinions” about something they know nothing about – like saying that if “AI really believes that this show is a singing contest – Melinda should be the winner…” Comments like this really bug me because you know for a fact that these idiots aren’t voting – and I’m sorry if I’m in the minority here, but it’s the person with the most votes who wins – PERIOD. It doesn’t matter who will do better, which performance last night brought the house down, the fact that Jordin is only 17, IT DOESN’T MATTER – votes equal win!

Lastly, I heard a poll result this morning that really drove home how lack-luster this season was – 56% of the people polled thought that the Daughtry performance was the best part of the show! I also heard that because FOX didn’t tell anyone that the show may run over, a lot of people missed out on the Daughtry performance because their TIVO cut off at 8pm! It would have been nice to know this ahead of time – although with the debut of another FOX reality show, it was sort of obvious from the get go that it wasn’t going to matter if they went over.

Good Luck Jordin – you deserve the win!

  • c4tay

Has anyone considered Paul McCartney as the “king” person? They’re doing some Beatles and he’s got a new cd coming out, doesn’t he? Just a thought. ‘Tis a mystery.

  • Kerri

crewzer1 – Both Perry’s are rumored to be there. LB posted and article that said Steve Perry would be singing with Sanjaya.

  • longsong

c4tay – now THAT would be BIG.

  • Abilymom

c4, I was wondering that, too. It would make sense.

OMGah, what if they are doing the Beatles medley? and then Taylor was doing his segment? and then out walks Paul, and then Taylor and Paul sang together?

    Itcouldhappen.

  • c4tay

I was just thinking he could be up for it, because, we know, an appearance usually boosts sales, and his ex was just on DWTS, so he might feel he needs a little more of America’s attention right now to counter balance her appearance. Maybe???

  • Abilymom

c4, totally. And with Prince’s big appearance last year, it makes it more likely that someone like Paul would appear.

And I love Steve Perry and I hope he does sing with Sanjaya.

  • maracaibo

I am glad Blake will duet with Doug.
Hey maybe he can do All MIxed Up and go back to his cool old self.

Go Blake, the best hing that happened to him is to not win.

McCartney proves he’s down with the kids

He may be 64 and the grandfather of British pop, not to mention three small children, but Sir Paul McCartney has proved he is still down with the kids.

Today, the former Beatle premiered his music video Dance Tonight on YouTube à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ the video hosting site loved by young internet users.

If that wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t enough generation-surfing, Sir Paulà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s clip stars hip, young actress Natalie Portman….

What song could Green Day sing? Every song has f*ck in it!

If I were a betting man I would guess Time of Your Life will be trotted back out (I forget if that is actually the title, it is the one with the chorus of I hope you had the time of your life).

  • jersey

*whispers* I want to see Green Day, too.

  • Kylene

    Fun Fact of the Day:

Time of Your Life was my graduation song in 1998.

So do I but I have to wait.

Coco – I believe Ebony and Ivory was with Stevie Wonder. But I could be mistaken. Plus, I don’t think Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney are on good terms, given all the Beatles catalog stuff.

  • Abilymom

c4, LisaB found it, not me.

  • http://www.graycharles.com/ graycharles

Time Of Your Life? Why would they have the theme from Dirty Dancing on the finals. Wait wait – Swayze was also in “King Solomons’ Mines” – it all makes sense now.

  • Kerri

Allen – The song is called…Good Riddance (Time of Your Life). It def. could be the one they choose, but they may stick to something from their more currrent album.

  • Ladybug

Me three (four? five?) on Green Day. An original sounding group! :smile1_tb: My vote goes for “American Idiot” but I don’t think it will happen.

Steve Perry: No new album. I seriously doubt this one as he has had voice problems for several years. But you never know! I would LOVE for him to be on.

Paul McCartney: Much more likely a guest. New album coming out. Music cleared. I hope so.

I think Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson did a song called “The Girl Is Mine” or somesuch banality.

Hey, maybe Jordin and Blake will have time to do the lift this year.

I think Jordin will have to be the lifter, and Blake the lift-ee.

Paul McCartney: Much more likely a guest. New album coming out. Music cleared. I hope so.

Sir Paul McCartney probably would be as “big” as Prince to a certain demographic, I should think.

I love Prince, but Paul is in a league of his own.

Jackson and McCartney WERE friends…until Sir Paul told Michael that a lot of money was to be made off publishing rights. So Michael went out and baught the Lennon/McCartney catalouge and McCartney didn’t have the $$ raised to outbid Michael.

I learned early on in the AI6 season to tape 7 minutes over the regular scheduled programming. D needs to give up the Glam Boy look, and look like a real guy. :hmm2_ee:

  • http://inkdbylilyanna.com carolina

Michael Jackson and/or Britney just might be the end of this show.

Both washed up, both have seriously negative PR problems. If they’re on *any* show (which is another debate) it should be So You Think You Can Dance.

    I vote for Paul McC!

  • Lisa B

It was reported in the press over a week or so ago that Fuller had turned down working with MJ, so I wouldn’t expect him to turn up.

  • jeannie

Hey, maybe Jordin and Blake will have time to do the lift this year.

That might not be a good idea. If she fell on him it would’nt be pretty.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

While Green Day are a fun band, they’re no legends like Prince. You can’t be a legend when 95% of your songs have the same 4 chords and only one of your albums was critically acclaimed (their last). Prince has not only outsold and is more acclaimed than Green Day, he’s a musical genius who can play over 20 instruments. He’s influenced a whole generation of musicians and singers, while Green Day are really more of a product of their generation. No comparison- although I enjoy Green Day’s songs more than I do Prince’s (just my taste).

Doug E Fresh? LOL who else are they going do dig out of the grave for this finale?

  • lg

I hope it’s not Michael J. Sir Paul, yes…the king of…songwriting, sales, longevity? I think it’s a good possibility he’ll be there given the British Invasion theme a few shows back. Would be awesome to see him there, and also should be a thrill for the idols to meet and perform with him.

  • Abilymom

    n/m

Mary already said it. That’s what I get for skim-reading.

  • Lisa B

You only need four chords to write a song.

  • sarahinwv

Lisa B..on “Idol Tonite” … they mentioned not being able to have Janet Jackson… Michael and Paul sang “The Girl is Mine”… or did someone already say that?

  • jeannie

Mary already said it. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s what I get for skim-reading.

Sorry, I didn’t see it either.

  • lilolme

Actually – I heard that after the 6 guys do the Beatles melody, that Paul Comes out singing ‘Say, Say, Say’, is joined by Michael Jackson and Taylor stands in the middle playing the harmonica part to keep them from each other throats. heh

  • AngC30

    Wait wait….How about this scenario….

Ok Is it Joe Perry (guitarist of Aerosmith) or Steve Perry (lead singer of Journey) that is rumored to appear?

anyways, if it is Joe perry of Aerosmith….

And Gray guessed maybe something about run DMC Maybe….Blake, Run of Run DMC, Doug E fresh (is he from run DMC?) are gonna do a reprise of “Walk this Way” the duet with Aerosmith circa 1980′s with Blake Beatboxing?? That would Rock!!!!! No rumors, just me putting together some input that everyone is putting out there…

    Tell me what you think….

  • http://www.graycharles.com/ graycharles

    Gray’s Speculation was “made up”

  • Former_AI_Junkie

You only need four chords to write a song.

Hey, the Sex Pistols could hardly even play instruments, and “God Save The Queen” is an awesome song. But there’s a limit. If you listen to Dookie, the entire album sounds like one long song with the same chords, mood and lyrical themes.

  • AngC30

No I know Gray, It just rung a bell to me that maybe it could be Run DMC…well the remaining members anyways…..it was good speculation, I was just putting together, rumors speculation and the whole Walk this Way Idea popped into my head….actually the Joe Perry of Aerosmith thing is what set my brain off….anyways, I personally think that Blake would ROCK Walk this Way!!

I think Simon Cowell wants to work with MJ regarding the anniversary of the thriller album. Its on some celeb gossip link that I’ll try and find. But MJ is in the UK right now getting ready to perform for some VIP for big bucks. I don’t think he’ll be around unless they concord him over here. I hope not!

    gray, your zingers are great.

  • c4tay

ooh…sorry, Lisa B. My bad. Thanks, Abily. The posts were right together, and I goofed.

  • Grammie Kari

I am excited about a possible Beatles medley and having Sir Paul there would be better than a Prince moment.

Rumors about Steve Perry and Bette Midler being there? Both have been mentioned as desired Guest Mentors. I shall not get my hopes up. :biggrin_wp:

Glad that Tony B. is well and will be performing tonight.

I am more excited about the show than I am about the results!

Being a “family” show, can’t imagine AI would put Michael Jackson on being that he is a child molester–and a real creepy one at that! Now Paul McCartney–a HUGE legend!

  • madzippy

Oh let it be true that Melinda will perform…I don’t care with whom although the Winans would be great and a full circle kinda moment. I’m tearing up just thinking about it….the return of the true American Idol.

Yesterday’s finale was awful. I don’t care who wins. I feel bad for whoever does for having to release that awful “Now” song. What an awful way to start a career.

  • http://www.graycharles.com/ graycharles

Hooked again! Man, do I want to hear Green Day sing “American Idiot” on “American Idol”!

But I’m hearing rumors too: Elvis and Jimi Hendrix are dueting, and Frank Sinatra will be ballroom dancing and beat-boxing with Britney.

Oh, and by the way: Neil Young will make a surprise appearance to sing, “Let’s Impeach the President Now.”

  • http://www.graycharles.com/ graycharles

I’m almost sure he was married to the Frozen Food Heiress.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

Is Paul McCartney the guy who was in Sean Lennonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s dads old band?

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“the guy who didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t cheat on his wife nor abandon her for long periods of time to go on a heroin bingeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

What does Kurt Cobain have to do with this?

  • colette

And have any of you peeps actually seen Bette Midler live?

The woman is HILARIOUS — totally naughty, irreverent, topical, bawdy.

She’d be trash-talking about Randy, Paula & Simon like you couldn’t believe….Really liven that joint up!

  • Former_AI_Junkie

What does Kurt Cobain have to do with this?

Hey, there’s a fundamental difference between the two- Kurt would take heroin WITH his wife. He was all about sharing, you see. Lennnon was a selfish SOB, he wanted that high all to himself.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

I’m hoping the rumours about Taylor performing “Heaven Knows” are true. To me it’s the best “commercial” song on his album, and it could really help his sales.

  • KTINTN

AI Junkie, Taylor said on a radio interview this AM that he will be performing “HK”, as it is his new single. He also confirmed taking part in doing a Beatles Medley.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

    Thanks, KTINTN!

Hooray! Here’s to a craptastic finale!

Now how on earth will they top the Clay-clone moment from last season’s finale? I have no idea but I’d bet it’ll have something to do with Emperor Sanjaya

  • sammy

Why are they having all these “old” people on the show? Gladys Knight,Smokey Robinson, Peter Noone? I’m yawning. Britney Spears lip synching? This sounds better and better.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

I love how on a “singing” competition they usually bring either: former greats who can’t sing 1/2 as well anymore or: current stars whom singing has nothing to do with their success. Talk about mixed signals.

The person TPTB want to win is someone young, impressionable, likeable, with enough talent to sing bland pop. They’re not looking for a unique talent and never have, or they wouldn’t choose the top 24 the way that they do with so many subpar and redundant contestants.

  • LisaATL

They are old. Oh wait, I’m 51 – I’m too old for my opinion to count. :lol_tb:

And it takes a lot of talent to have your picture taken with no panties on…

  • griz

Why are they having all these à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“oldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ people on the show? Gladys Knight,Smokey Robinson,

Perhaps it’s because they are the only people who agreed to come on who have any legendary talent – one exception might be Peter Noone ;) But no one under 45 will care, so pfffffff!

And yes, it is 100% guaranteed Taylor will sing Heaven Knows on the show – it was posted on his myspace and he mentioned it a few times on many radio stations he interviewed with this morning.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

A great post from VFTW that summarized this season from me:

Ellen says: I really hope this is affecting their ad revenue because that’s what they get for shitting on AI’s fans all year. First they stacked the deck by putting a bunch subpar, charisma-devoid losers in the top 24 so they could better manipulate the outcome (they do this every year, but this year was the worst yet). Then, as if these people weren’t already hard to care about based on talent alone, they didn’t even let us see their personalities because they were too busy turning the show into a bullshit extravaganza of established celebrities who no one gives a fuck about. Viewers found refuge in Sanjaya, but the producers didn’t personally care for him so they figured it would be no big deal if they just shitcanned the audience’s far and away favorite. They deserve every penny of lost revenue and millions more for treating the fans who got them where they are with such contempt.

I wonder if they’ll actually retool the show next year or continue on the same bullshit path. Considering what we know of the producers, I’ll predict the latter.

  • colette

Them’s fighting words, Sammy. Why not open your ears to the entire span of American music, from today back to yesteryear.

Those “old people” wrote and performed some of the best songs in American pop, some of them as fresh today as they were decades ago. Peter Noone? Meh.

But Smokey and Gladys? Props, baby, props! Here they are:

only one of your albums was critically acclaimed

I could be wrong, but wasn’t “Dookie” critically acclaimed?? or it just sold well?

  • julilynn

This is was I saw on TMZ – just a few minutes ago:
    Juli R – Wisconsin

TMZ has learned that Kelly — and all winners from seasons past, except Fantasia — will be back performing on the “American Idol” stage for tonight’s finale.

Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Carrie Underwood and Taylor Hicks are headed to the Kodak Theater, but Fantasia Barrino won’t be, since she is headlining Oprah Winfrey’s production of “The Color Purple” on Broadway.

Sources tell TMZ Gladys Knight will perform “Midnight Train to Georgia” with the top six female finalists, while Smokey Robinson will join the top six male finalists for a rendition of “Ooh Baby Baby.” Most recently booted finalist Melinda Doolittle will sing with brother and sister gospel duo BeBe and CeCe Winans, while the hairiffic Sanjaya duets with Aerosmith’s Joe Perry to the Kinks’ “You Really Got Me.” It’s sure to be an unbeweavable night!

Beat-boxing finalist Blake Lewis will show off his mad skillz against rapper Doug E. Fresh, and then duet with fellow finalist and probable winner, Jordin Sparks, to the Beatles’ “I Saw Her Standing There.” Since producers were able to finally get clearance to use Beatles music, a medley of Fab Four hits will be performed as well.

  • abbysee

About that VFTW post, how do they know that the people that they chose are devoid of charisma, or won’t rise to the challenge when they have so little time to evaluate that? Some seasons just don’t work as well as others…..there was some decent talent this year. Not stellar, but truly not that bad.

  • pj

Viewers found refuge in Sanjaya, but the producers didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t personally care for him so they figured it would be no big deal if they just shitcanned the audienceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s far and away favorite.

Give me a break. No way was he the audience’s far and away favorite. :wacko_tb:

When I read stuff like that it makes me take the rest of what is said less seriously.

Sanjaya wasn’t a bad singer, but he was tentative at first and then developed his eff it attitude. I wish him success and even threw him a few votes, but that stopped when the competition got a bit more serious.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

    I could be wrong, but wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dookieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ critically acclaimed??

It wasn’t, and for good reason. It sold well to suburban kids, but it offered nothing new or original- the entire album sounded like one long song about “my girlfriend dumped me” and “I’m so white, middle-class and bored”.

I was one of those kids, BTW.

Green Day took everyone by surprise when they released their last album, because it actually tackled current political and social issues and was much more mature in its content. The music was also more sophisticated than in their previous albums, although they were never known for their great musicianship. My bet is they’ll never surpass their last album, I don’t think they have it in them to be honest.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

Sanjaya wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t a bad singer, but he was tentative at first and then developed his eff it attitude. I wish him success and even threw him a few votes, but that stopped when the competition got a bit more serious.

Are you saying Timberfake was a better singer than Sanjaya? or that Philler had more charisma and appeal than him?

Let’s face it- this season’s final 2 is the worst they’ve had. One is the worst singer they’ve ever had in the F2 (no range, thin voice), and the other too young to have a personality, and a less-than-stellar vocalist (breathy, off-pitch at times). I can think of 4 female singers in this season alone who could (and have already) outsing her.

I do, however, agree that Sanjaya wasn’t the viewers’ #1 favourite. But I doubt he recieved the lowest number of votes out of the top 7.

  • pj

Are you saying Timberfake was a better singer than Sanjaya? or that Philler had more charisma and appeal than him?

Who is Timberfake? Blake? If so, yes, I’m saying he’s a better singer, musician and producer.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

    Who is Timberfake? Blake?

Timberfake = Chris R (“nasally is a form of singing”).

  • pj

Oh, Chris R is a nice guy, but nasally for sure. I hear he is a good songwriter. We shall see if it’s true.

  • B

It wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t, and for good reason.

I’m pretty sure it won a Grammy and had at least some critical acclaim from rock journalists. I like “Dookie” much better than anything they’ve released since, including “American Idiot,” but that’s just me. “Dookie,” with all of it’s cliches and what not, shaped the music scene much more than “American Idiot” has.

The Grammys jumped the shark years ago. They practically give them out blindfolded and really are just marketing tools. And acclaimed or not at the time, no one cares about that album today. I mean really, do you see it making any “greatest albums” list along with “OK Computer” and “Blood Sugar Sex Magic”?

For the record, I own the album and once in a blue moon listen to it, it’s very enjoyable. But what merit is there to it? I stopped thinking it was great around the age of 16 when my taste became more diversified and refined.

  • jersey

OMG cheese! I forgot that line was in that song! Yea!

  • jersey

    From Wikipedia:

Dookie’s first single, “Longview”, refers to boredom-induced masturbation. Trà © Cool’s drum lead and Billie Joe Armstrong’s fast fretwork evoke The Damned’s “New Rose” and features a trademark Mike Dirnt bassline. Heavy play of the “Longview” and “Basket Case” music videos on MTV contributed to the band’s popularity.

Dookie had received a very positive response, with All Music calling it, “…a stellar piece of modern punk that many tried to emulate but nobody bettered.”[1] Dookie appeared in the book 1,001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die,[2] and in Rolling Stone Magazine’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time issue, Dookie was placed at number 193.[3]

In 1995, Dookie won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album.

  • LB2

I forgot about that 17 line as well. How lame.

DOUG E FRESH!!!111!!!! Love it. I am praying for this to be true.

I pretty pissed for Kiki though as well as Phil and Chris R. I would have liked to have seen duets for them all.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

Rolling Stone? Who gives a fuck about them? They’ve turned to shit years ago. Just like MTV.

Again, most of those awards are promotional tools. The only real award, as far as I’m concerned, is whether the album withstood the test of time. Are people still buying it today? Is it relevant to someone who lives on a different continent? In a different culture? In a different generation?

For example: “Sgt. Pepper’s”, “Blood Sugar Sex magic”, “Dark Side of The Moon”.

Again, I agree it’s an enjoyable album, but I don’t see how anyone can call it anything near “great”. I guess my bar is set higher than some of others’. I look for originality, musicianship and/or a message in the lyrics. There’s nothing that album can give me now that I’m past 16.

  • jersey

FaiJ – I’m not necessarily disagreeing with you. Just pointing out that others might. And my 15 year old bought the cd last year and it is his favorite Green Day cd. He isn’t a Green Day fan, generally speaking though.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

Hey, I could always be wrong LOL. People might continue to buy it 50 years from now. My opinion, however, is that they won’t, or that very, very few will.

I was surprised to hear it got that much critical accalim, and I certainly got that one completely wrong. However, as I said, I don’t believe in handing out awards for art, and those things are usually fixed anyway. Art is so subjective that the only way to find if a piece of art has real value is in its universality and longetivity- does it have appeal across cultures, time and generations. Even Britney won awards and I’m sure not too many sane adults believe she’s one of the great American singers/performers.

  • B

Britney is definitely not one of the great American singers, that’s for sure. But I’ve been to my share of concerts and can honestly say that her abilities and instincts as a live entertainer are outstanding. Her singing isn’t anything worth remembering, but she’s a great performer.

As for music, there are a lot of people today who don’t think that anything post-Beatles is worth remembering. I personally don’t feel that way and as much as I love a lot of 60s rock, I’m definitely not mourning the state of music/entertainment today.

it’s deifnitely random that Green Day is on Idol given that they’re in between albums, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.

As a fan of Katharine’s, I think it’s BS that the show is bringing on so many established aritsts, yet they can’t have last season’s runner up…?

  • Former_AI_Junkie

As for music, there are a lot of people today who donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think that anything post-Beatles is worth remembering.

My point was that the only objective criterion (one that has nothing to do with people’s opinions and tastes) is the cross-over appeal of the music. If people are still buying Mozart and it’s still being played on radio and discussed by music lovers, than it can be considered “good” even if I personally don’t care for classical music at all.

  • RightSaidFred

    …ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s BS that the show is bringing on so many established aritsts, yet they canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have last seasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s runner upà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦?

I think even more perplexing is the fact they’re having 4 out of 5 previous winners on the show yet can’t find the time to bring her back. Believe me, if they thought they could get away with not bringing Taylor back they would also.

Believe me, if they thought they could get away with not bringing Taylor back they would also.

If they really had it in for Taylor, they wouldn’t have allowed him a solo performance with Heaven Knows tonight (I doubt Ruben will have that luxury) – they could have just have him duet or be a part of a group number.

  • jersey

See RSF, Lisa B figured out a way to keep it on topic.

They are having the winners back not the runners up, or is Katharine still classified as a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹co-winnerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢?

Of course not, but since they haven’t had her back the entire season it’d be appropriate. I think they’re sending a bad message to all future contestants.. being “bring in the buck$ or we won’t give two fucks”

    Not that I’m surprised.

  • chromebrain

If Taylor is joining a Beatles medley, is there hope for a “Don’t Let Me Down” appearance in there somewhere?

I can almost see it now. They will sing the opening lines of “I Saw Her Standing There” and make serenading gestures towards Jordin. Or is Sanjaya 17 too? Then again, he’s not a “she.” Which would make it awkward. Kinda.

I’d laugh though. But maybe that’s just me.

i’m assuming if Green Day is on it, it will be to promote their single “Working Class Hero” and the Instant Karma CD…as well as spreading the word about Amnesty International and the crisis in Darfur

  • MaryS-NJ

I wonder if the plethera of former AIs is because they lost audience share with all the canned performances that distract from what the show SHOULD be about. They seem to be making a last-ditch effort to say to America “See, we haven’t completely sold out to commerce… we wub our Idols!”

I’m pissed that Lakisha won’t get a solo but Sanjaya will… I have nothing against Sanjaya (he’s more sinned against than sinning, IMO) but Lakisha is the 4th place finisher.

    As a fan of Katharineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s, I think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s BS that the show is bringing on so many established aritsts, yet they canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have last seasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s runner upà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦?

I’m not particularly a fan of Katharine, but I agree with you, B.

I think the Beatles medley is from Sgt Pepper.

ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m assuming if Green Day is on it, it will be to promote their single à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Working Class Heroà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and the Instant Karma CDà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦as well as spreading the word about Amnesty International and the crisis in Darfur

That? Would be awesome and worthwhile.

What are the chances that the very special surprise band that is being taped ahead of time is The Police?

  • Former_AI_Junkie

Haha talking about The Beatles reminded me of something.. I dug this up from earlier in the season:

“Sanjaya’s Universe” after The Beatles’ “Across The Universe”

    Words are whispered in an
Endless train wreck by a tuneless fuck
He slithers through, the rest just
    Slip away in Sanjaya’s universe
    SisterJaya’s boobs of joy
are bouncing through my zombie mind
    Possessing and caressing me

    Go Sanjaya Malakar
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote

Hair so fine it shines with inner light
    From phonyhawk to “Scarface lite”
The primal force that moves Sanjaya’s universe
    Boy meanders like a
restless twit and mocks the whole of FOX
    He tumbles blindly as
He makes our world Sanjaya’s universe

    Go Sanjaya Malakar
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote

    Gift of laughter will surmount
The ringing through my wounded ears
    exciting and enlightening me
    That yes indeed, Sanjaya’s love
So here I pledge a million votes
I’m calling to keep on Sanjaya’s universe

    Go Sanjaya Malakar
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote
    Nothing’s gonna change my vote
    Go Sanjaya Malakar
    Go Sanjaya Malakar

OMG! That would be so awesome.

And yay to Doug E Fresh!!!!! That is going to be wicked! :cool1_tb:

  • Abilymom

Is the Beatles medley just going to be from Sgt. Pepper? Some of the songs I’d like to hear Taylor sing aren’t on that album. I’d love to hear “Long and Winding Road” or “Get Back”. From Sgt. Pepper’s the only one I can hear him singing is “Getting Better”.

  • jersey

OK, I just checked, The Police start their tour in Vancouver on the 27th of this month. I’m officially going with The Police as my guess for “very special guest group”. (of course it could just be wishful thinking)

  • NOLA

Fresh is a Scientologist. He has performed for large audiences of Scientologists at the annual Scientology Celebrity Centre Gala in both 2004, 2005, and 2006. He also recorded a couple of songs on the Scientology music album The Joy of Creating along with Isaac Hayes, and Chick Corea.

I never thought I’d say this; but I sure wish Katharine was
    performing tonight.

  • Linny

Isn’t Green Day the surprise group? So far, sounds like nothing will ever top last year. Even though they did Burt Bacharach, it was still better than this sounds.

There will be no hometown parties. The original plan was to have them, but the producers thought otherwise and cancelled them.

Could this be because Blake’s party would have been so much larger
than Jordins and being as she is the AI6, TPTB wouldn’t have been
    able to explain it? :)

  • radname

Yeah..because as we saw by their top 3 home town visits Jordin had a mere two people show up, not including her parents.

  • NOLA

    I agree, rad :)

  • pj

Blake did a lot more in his hometown than the others. He did two concerts, tv and radio gigs, and the NA. His concerts were 45 minutes or more and included originals. Not three songs. He also went out and did a guest stint at a club with the Blue Scholars. That’s why I found it funny that someone was complaining about Melinda’s flight being two hours longer than his and that it cut into her rehersal time. If it did, it didn’t show. She was fabulous on top three night and should have been in the finale with Blake.

Jordin looked like she had a pretty good turnout, though.

I heard on the radio this morning that DWTS beat out AI in viewers last nightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦whoa

    Not according to this:

    http://www.medialifemagazine.com/artman/publish/article_12293.asp

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ averaged a 9.3 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights, one of its lowest ratings of the year and off 24 percent from a 12.3 on the same night last year. It pulled 24.5 million total viewers, down 23 percent from 31.8 million on the same night last year.

    And:

    …facing the first hour of the fourth-season finale of ABCà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hit à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dancing with the Stars.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

The two-hour show averaged a 6.6 in adults 18-49 and 22.7 million total viewers. Its numbers were down 7 percent and 17 percent, respectively, from last fallà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s season three finale, won by ex-Dallas Cowboys great Emmitt Smith.

Oh Lord. Sambalambayayajojo is doing a skit with the UCLA cheerleaders like the Kellie Pickler skit with Wolfgang last year?

I am looking forward to the Sgt Pepper *moment*. It has real chances to be quite cool if the top 12 start the song, and then Taylor comes out singing.

Hi Everybody and welcome to the Vote For the Worst Season 6 Finales. The two contestants have overcome the odds, let me introduce them:

1st is SANJAYA MALAKAR from Washington

2nd is ANTONELLA BARBA from New Jersey

and I am your host Brian Dunkleman. Let’s introduce the judges:
Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson and William Hung

Thanks for the round of applause. The contestants will sing one song they’ve already sung, one new song and the coronation song “This Is My Now”
    ————————————————————————————-
1st up is Sanjaya with a reprise of “Let’s Give Them Something to Talk About” by Bonnie Rait

    Judges comments:

Randy: DAWG. So listen. It was just ai’ght fo me yo. Not as bad as the first time. If you want to be the worst you have to be in it to win it and that was not bad enough.

Paula: I love you. You give me something to talk about

    William: you bang!

Next up is Antonella with her reprise of “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing”

Randy: We got a hot one tonight. That was brilliant. This is about finding the worst singer this year in the competition and you worked it out tonight.

Paula: You’re beautiful. You really are.

    William: You bang. literally.

Simon in referee shirt: Round 1 goes to Antonella

    ————————————————————————————–
Round 2 Sanjaya is singing: Dontcha by the Pussycats

Randy: Dude, I’m lovin the song. You are the best performer in the competition. Great hair too.

    Paula: You are a star

William: Perfect. You are back in the competition

Antonella “Blowin In the Wind” by Bob Dylan

Randy: Antonella, Antonella, Antonella. Listen… It was just aight for me, I liked your first song better.

    Paula: You are stellar.

William: I disagree with Randy. It was fantastic.

Simon: Round 2 goes to Sanjaya

Round 3 “This Is My Now” Sanjaya

Randy: Dude. It was pitchy and that’s what made it so bad. Lovin it dude, lovin it.

Paula: Your parents must be so proud.

    William: This is your now

    Antonella “This Is My Now”

Randy: So, dawg, ya started out flat, but in the end you were even worse. You are making this a tight race. America, I don’t know.

Paula: Whether you win or lose you are a star. Playboy will love you.

William: The end of the song was probably your best performance this season.

Simon in ref costume: Round 3 is a tie.

AMERICA, it is up to you>>>>> VOTE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Former_AI_Junkie

LMAO @ “Playboy will love you”

  • radname

Oh Lord. Sambalambayayajojo is doing a skit with the UCLA cheerleaders like the Kellie Pickler skit with Wolfgang last year?

I think Sanjaya was filming for a reality show, and not the AI finale. But I could be wrong.

  • St.Lucia

Green Day is the “surprise” guest. I’ll mute my TV! I hate, hate Green Day. I used to like Green Day circa “Dookie” but anything of recent makes me absolute loathe them. Yuck.

And I may be alone, but I’m totally skeptical about the Beatles medley. I’m just…a person who doesn’t want to see singers do bad karaoke versions of songs I adore. As a devout Beatles fan…I just…I don’t know. Makes me nervous to have those songs on Idol. So, I’m definitely a bit “ehh” about the medley. We’ll see though, maybe some surprises.

How appropriate for the winner of American Idol to get to duet with Blake on “I saw her standing there!” What a logical choice! She’s even talked about in the lyric. *rolls eyes*

Anyone up for a drinking game? I bet tonight we’ll hear Jordin’s age be mentioned a record amount of times.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

And I may be alone, but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m totally skeptical about the Beatles medley.

I LOVE The Beatles (1st Cd I ever bought), but in all fairness most of their songs sound good even when not sung well. The melodies are so great and catchy that even these jokers could make them enjoyable (I hope).

  • teqi

yeah Green Day is confirmed, they’re doing “Working Class Hero”…their manager confirmed it via email to one of the people at Green Day Authority in the past few mins. i personally am thrilled, and that’s the only interest i have in idol tonite, haven’t watched all year. its what brought me back here, i know MJ always has the scoop first on everything lol. the only thing i miss about AI is hanging out reading the interesting posts here and MJ’s excellent write-ups. anyway, just got word and thought i’d let everyone know.

  • emeralgem

Lakisha Jones said on a radio interview this morning, that ONLY THE TOP 3 will get to sing duets with special musical guests..

    _____________________________

I’m disappointed….I know that #4 from last year was allowed to perform with a special musical guest. I believe it was also one of his favorite groups…

  • Former_AI_Junkie

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m disappointedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.I know that #4 from last year was allowed to perform with a special musical guest

Even #5 did. TPTB’ve really flipped the bird at the contestants this season.

  • calimari

That Sanjaya’s universe bit was great. I’m a HUGE Beatles fan, and also John Lennon. My life-changing Lennon song, though, is Working Class Hero. I hope Green Day doesn’t F it up. I must have listened to that song over and over and over when I was in high school. I have 2 copies of the album, I have the cassette tape and the CD.
I hope you’re kidding about the “I Saw Her Standing There’ bit w/ the she’s just 17 comment. That would be tooooo hokey. I’m hoping it’s at least entertaining – don’t think it will be anywhere as good as last year just based on the fact that all the group songs this year sucked. There isn’t a lot of talent in this group overall, and they don’t blend well together like they did last year. We’ll see what they’ll pull off!

  • Former_AI_Junkie

That Sanjayaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s universe bit was great

    Thank you :)

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a HUGE Beatles fan, and also John Lennon. My life-changing Lennon song, though, is Working Class Hero

    There’s room at the top
    They keep telling you still
    But first you must learn
How to smile as you kill
    If you want to live
Like the folks on the hill

Green Day will probably give it an OTT Emo performance with none of the sarcasm and self-mocking of the original. I hope I’m wrong, but it’s really such a basic song (3 chords) that it easily becomes a borefest if you don’t fully connect with the lyrics.

  • calimari

For me, with Lennon, it’s all about the lyrics. Guess that’s why, unlike Jordan, I’m not a big fan of MMm-Bop.

  • St.Lucia

I just…maybe okay I’m being biased because of my absolute hatred of Green Day, but I just…I can’t seem them connecting to that song that way it was meant to be sung.

I personally think that song is better left as untouched. I’m SCARED to see what Green Day will do with it.

Sigh. If you’re going to have someone do that song, WHY Green Day. Yes, I’m bitching, but man…I really don’t like them!

  • Former_AI_Junkie

Sigh. If youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re going to have someone do that song, WHY Green Day

It IS only 3 chords.. they would get lost on the other songs LOL

  • xoxoyc

I never thought Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d say this; but I sure wish Katharine was
    performing tonight.

I never thought you’d say that either but I completely agree. It pisses me off that they couldn’t have her back to sing on the show there’s no excuse for it really.

  • Lisa

radname, the *writer* for AI was on the carpet at the TV Guide show and she stated that the Sanjayaya thing is for tonight and it will be like Kellie Pickler’s Wolfgang Puck skit. Sanjambalam will have his Faux hair and does the skit with the UCLA cheerleaders.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

I think McTatas was supposed to perform earlier in the season but there was some scheduling conflict on her part.

  • Who’sUrDaddy

What no Katharine on the season finale.
When Kellie, Elliott and Chris have been on. And Taylor tonight.
    I’m So ticked.
Afrter to night, no more of AI6 for me.

  • St.Lucia

For me, with Lennon, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s all about the lyrics. Guess thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s why, unlike Jordan, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not a big fan of MMm-Bop.

Okay, I totally couldn’t resist. I’m a Hanson fan. Yes. I’m totally beyond a normal age of being a Hanson fan. But I highly respect this band. I also have a daughter who was at the right age when that song came out. You get where this is going. Regardless, I’ve grown to greatly appreciate and respect them as musical artists. I’ve seen them in concert(with my daughter) numerous times. They put on one HELL of a show. And this isn’t being an “MMMBop” fan, although I do like the song, that intrigued me on the band initially. (And I’m not going into the actual meaning behind the song, because I do know the importance behind it), but they are a great band and if you’re brave enough I recommend to look into some of the newer music.

Now BACK on topic, I can already picture how this whole duet of “I Saw her standing there” is going to go. Can we say “Cheesy” and involving Blake fawning all over Jordin. I may actually slightly enjoy this.

And wanted to comment on FAIJ post:

I LOVE The Beatles (1st Cd I ever bought), but in all fairness most of their songs sound good even when not sung well. The melodies are so great and catchy that even these jokers could make them enjoyable (I hope).

I do find this true and not true all at the same time. I think a lot of their earlier material does have a traditional “pop” formula and some songs have been covered to death. However, I don’t think that can be said about their latter material. Let’s put it this way, I’ll be happy if I never hear someone do a cover of “I am the walrus” although I’m sure it’s been done but I won’t go look for it. There are some Beatles songs I want left alone. Being AI I’m sure they may stray from some of the less “poppier” songs, if you will.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

St. Lucia, I didn’t mean ALL their songs (hard to generalize with The Beatles since they’ve recorded over 300), but I’d say the common thread to the large majority of their songs is that you could teach them to a 3 year old and he could sing them so others could recognise them. Doesn’t mean he’d sing them well, but really their songs are to me the best pop music ever written- even most of their latter stuff. Pop fused with 1,001 other jenres, but still pop. Even the full orchestra songs you could play with 4-5 chords on guitar and it would still sound OK.

    ~Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be happy if I never hear someone do a cover of à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I am the walrusà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ although Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m sure ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been done but I wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t go look for it~

You never heard Oasis’ full-on distortion version then, have you? That’s a good thing LOL It’s AWFUL

  • bamatt

Anyone up for a drinking game? I bet tonight weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll hear Jordinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s age be mentioned a record amount of times.

I’m in, beer’s poured. WOOHOO drink everytime you hear “17″ :drunk_tb:

I for one am glad McBoobies isn’t on tonight. I was forced to listen to her for an entire season & that was more than enough for me :lol_wp:

  • St.Lucia

I missed the first few minutes! lost track of time! Missed the initial song of “I saw her standing there!” We know there is 17 in that song, and well, that means one shot, and to error on the side of caution….I say there has been two 17′s!

    Drink up! :drunk_tb:

  • Kirsten

It pulled 24.5 million total viewers, down 23 percent from 31.8 million on the same night last year.

Wow! That’s a massive drop. They lost almost a quarter of their viewers. I do hope they make the right changes next year to get the show back on track.
