From Felicia Barton’s Facebook Fan Page:Â   Felicia’s husband, Loren Barton explains what happened Wednesday night as he and his wife watched “The Chair” episode with a crowd of people at their church.

As it turns out, Felicia found out she was back in the competition at about the same time the rest of us did.   Now the question is…when did they tell Joanna Pacitti?

And then we got the call!!! Sure enough, right smack in the middle of the 150 viewers that were gathered at Freedom to watch the show, Ken Warwick (executive producer for Idol) called Feliciaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s cell phone. She ran into the girlà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s bathroom to take the call, and she was bouncing off the walls when Ken told her to pack her bags, because she was now in the top 36!!!! He also told her not to tell a soul until they made it public the next day. So we had to finish out the night as if she never got the call!

Of course, we awoke this morning to a media firestorm…with Felicia at the center of it! And now ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s time for her to go back to Hollywood and take the competition by storm! Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going to be the ultimate underdog story when she becomes the next American Idol!!!

What we didn’t see:   Felicia was part of a  ”singoff” with a 16-year old girl (Stevie Wright? Allison Iraheta? Taylor Vaifanua? Jasmine Murray?)

Last night, we were at Freedom Fellowshipà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Idol viewing party with about 150 other excited, wonderful people. As the show began, I could see Feliciaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s eyes watering up as she sat, prepared to relive her Great Disappointment. It had been almost a month now, since she received the big à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Noà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ from the judges and we flew home, rejected. Trust me…our emotions and thoughts ran the gamut, as we tried desperately to process what had just occurred. What they didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t show on last nightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s episode is that Felicia was actually in a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹sing-offà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ with a 16 year old girl! Felicia sang à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“No Oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ by Alicia Keys, and she said she felt like it was her best performance ever, and then she listened from the hallway as the other girl give, what she felt, was a very average performance.

So you can understand Feliciaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s response of ,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Really…are you sure?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ when the judges told her that it was the end of the road.

I love hearing the behind the scenes stuff that sheds light on the editing and shenanigans of the producers. I’ll bet they filmed a bunch of those phony “singoffs” with the idea to air the most dramatic bits. Also, the producers couldn’t air singoffs that ran counter to the predetermined outcome. I mean, there’s no way the judges were deciding this stuff on the spot. The singoffs were purely for the cameras.

More behind-the-scenes updates from Felicia’s husband, here and here. Interesting stuff.

Hmm… I’m beginning to hate the idol producers more and more now, but yet I continue to watch. Then again I’m watching for the contestants and not for the producers.

I’m wondering who she had a sing-off with too. It also boggles my mind that the judges gave her good reviews but still never let her in the top 36 from the very beginning.

TPTB work in mysterious ways… :devil_tb:

  • itsalleternal

Same here, I am watching for the contestants, and certainly not the producers (they are such jerks and should all be fired).

  • cheese

Interesting. Hope her husband doesn’t get in trouble for posting stuff.

American Idol.com posted some pictures from the judges mansion. You can see that Kris Allen and Megan Corkrey had to do sing-offs (they conveniently did not include a photo of Felicia and the mystery 16 yr. old.)

For someone committed to a life of faith, the husband sure makes both of them sound arrogant. Hubby should keep his mouth shut from now on.

  • TwigLA

I’m thrilled that Felicia is back in the competition. She was my early favourite. I was blown away when she didn’t make to top 36, especially given some of the train wrecks they put through. It must have been rough watching the show for her.

I enjoy reading the first person accounts of what goes on in Hollywood. I’d like to read more of that from other contestants and their families or folks behind the scenes.

  • hardkandy

the husband sure makes both of them sound arrogant

Yeah, he does read as a pretty arrogant guy to me. The whole her sing off was so much better than the mediocre girl and this part:

And now ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s time for her to go back to Hollywood and take the competition by storm! Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going to be the ultimate underdog story when she becomes the next American Idol!!!

    Wow.

  • cookcricket

Apparently she’s wonderfully gifted and both she and her hubby realize this. Kudos to a husband supporting and being proud of his wife!

  • t2

I’m O.K. with a husband bragging on his wife. And honestly, after what they put her through, I don’t blame him a bit for speaking out. I am sure ai PTB will put the kabosh on him speaking out soon enough….

  • Dr. Tracey

I didn’t read anything that sounded arrogant.
To me he sounds like a husband who believes in and supports his wife and is excited for her and what she’s doing.

As viewers we haven’t really seen anything of her AI performances yet so how can we judge one way or the other?

  • ashes07

im confused about something. how can they tell Felicia that she made the top 36 so late. now shes gonna have a lot less time then the rest of the top 36 to pick out her song shes gonna sing and practice it and stuff. isnt that a little unfair for her?

    what do you guys think?

  • t2

I think the timings O.K. — maybe they will put her in the last heat.

  • ashes07

yeah i guess she does get awhile to prepare, but the other top 36 got like a month or more or something like that. but oh well.

does anyone know if they are doing theme nights?

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

She’ll be fine. If you read the entire post at her Facebook, she was preparing songs and getting her look together on the outside chance that she’d be called back for the wildcard. She sounds ready, to me.

I’ve said this before: Fake humility is for the birds. There’s no way anybody can make it far in this competition without having self-confidence, and a belief in their own talent. And I have no problem with a contestant being up front about that. It’s refreshing.

  • IdolFanatic

Excellent point. To me, he just sounds really proud of Felicia and that’s wonderful.

  • miknge

Eh, the way they edited her out and treated her during the show by not showing any of her performances at all and only show dramas, her husband has every rights to be arrogant, although I don’t think he’s even trying to be.

The way i read it, he sounds very excited for his wife. Yeah, she’s the underdog alright. and this year, i’ll be supporting the underdog instead of all those overpimped contestants, although I love Scott, and he’s being pimped, but Felicia will have my major support. :D

  • http://www.david-cook.co.cc/index.php jstxanothrxstory

Probably Ariana. Felicia was on the leaked list over her at first.

  • primeminister

If she doesn’t get put in the same group as Lil Rounds and 2 strong guys (ie: Adam, Matt, Scott), Felicia could have a shot at making the Top 12. I’ll be voting, that’s for sure.

  • hardkandy

I’m okay with him being proud of his wife but he’s also putting down the other hopefuls in the process. From his other posts:

In fact, she was the very first girl to sing in Hollywood!! In that pressure packed position, she delivered a strong, clean rendition of a great Aerosmith song, while almost everyone else in her group faltered and folded under the pressure.

    Not very cool, IMO.

Of course her husband’s behavior will not affect me supporting Felicia in anyway if she brings it in the semis. But he should STFU about the other contestants for her own good.

  • IdolFanatic

Well he’s just giving his opinion on the others. I don’t think he’s trying to put others down just for the sake of propping Felicia up. He might be a little biased, but who can blame him? I hope this last minute decision helps make up for us not seeing much of her giving her the attention she should have had to begin with :)

  • erennick

I don’t think he said the other people “sucked,” just that they couldn’t handle the pressure. And I agree with the fake humility statement MJ made. If a contestant doesn’t truly believe they can win (or succeed in the music business,) they won’t. I didn’t find Danny’s comment arrogant either, so ymmv.

I am just excited to finally hear the contestants sing live!

  • hardkandy

I don’t think that he said they sucked either but it still doesn’t sit too well with me. I suppose the comment doesn’t really bother a lot of people because we don’t know who the “others” are.

I’m sure these are all just the ramblings of a proud husband but they’re treading on semi-celebrity territory now. I’m just saying he should be more careful about the things he says, because if Felicia ever does reach the latter part of the competition… these kinds of things won’t fly. AI fans are sensitive.

  • savgal

Wow, what a story, getting the call while watching the show. So excited for her! I think she is absolutely adorable with her natural brunette beauty, a good balance to all the blondes, and her voice was awesome in the street fair clip I saw on youtube. Hope she can pull a Jason and just blow people away with her first song.

  • leome

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s trying to put others down just for the sake of propping Felicia up.

That’s exactly what he’s doing. You can praise someone without putting others down. We don’t know who they are, but they do.
I don’t think it’s relevant though, cause her husband is not part of the competition anyway.
They were putting people that had something in common againts each other, and I think the 16 years old who seems to be more like Felicia is Stevie. But it’s just a guess.

  • coveredbygrace01

I know both Loren and Felicia very well, and I will tell you that the term arrogant does not describe them…at all! And I wonder if anyone making a negative comment about what Loren wrote is married or has ever had the opportunity to be in the position he is in – to be the backbone of support for someone he dearly loves who is chasing her dream. Let me ask you, if you were in her position, would you want the main person in your corner to be any less supportive, proud, or confident in your abilities? When you think of it in perspective, he actually did fairly well.

Did he go overboard, or rip on people? I don’t know, and you don’t either. You weren’t there and you don’t know how the competition went. Going on what I know of both of them I would say unequivocally no. No one is perfect, but ripping on anyone is contrary to Loren’s grain. He was just trying to give an accurate depiction of events that took place from his inside point of view to people who couldn’t be there – YOU!

These are two very open, honest people who ARE great people of faith (jimmyboyd2), and the fact that people are questioning that seems more arrogant to me than anything Loren said.

Unfortunately, I do think that Loren may need to watch what he is writing, but sadly it is more because of posts like I’m seeing on here than anything else. It’s too bad that we could ruin an opportunity to get an inside glimpse in almost real time of a person on a great journey (one that most of us only dream about). Can we possibly quit trying to read stuff into every nuance of the writings of these contestants and their loved ones; especially when we don’t know them? Instead, lets just enjoy the journey with them.

  • Tony

    Uh oh…

  • coveredbygrace01

Sorry Tony. Not trying to put a damper on anyone’s fun. Looking back I can see how I have made judgments myself about what someone else has written. These are just two awesome people and I was floored at what people were writing about them…well, Loren in particular. Being on this side of things (I’m a friend of theirs by the way, not family or anything like that) has definitely changed my paradigm.

I run this blog. Friends and family are welcome here, but if your point is to lecture people, I’ll be deleting your posts. If you keep it up, I’ll ban you.

Offering your perspective on people that you know is one thing. Telling posters here how to behave and what to say is another. I don’t tolerate that here.

Your friends are celebrities now. Getting criticized is part of the bargain.

And Loren started it by opening his mouth. He’s fair game now. Sorry.

I disagree that he’s putting anyone down. He could simply be telling the truth and stating a fact. Honestly, if I was doing something like this on National TV, I would expect my husband to be telling the world that I was the most badass badass that ever badassed. Otherwise, I’d be totally pissed.

In my own life, my husband’s in sales and I’ll tell anyone who brings up the subject that he routinely out-produces his competitors across the area. I do this for several reasons: 1. because he pays my bills and marketing is marketing 2. because he’s pretty awesome and I’m damn proud and 3. because it’s true.

I see nothing wrong with being proud of your own accomplishments or those of the people you care about. I also see nothing wrong with telling people that they suck whenever they do. I believe you’re doing them a HUGE favor.

Then again, I’m also one of those parents that thinks not every kid on a team deserves a trophy just for showing up. And, even if a kid is only 8, I don’t think they should ALL get to play in the game if they totally suck. Better to learn what you have no aptitude for at an early age so you can focus your energies elsewhere.

With that, I’d like to thank my 5th grade music teacher for pointing out that I was the most tone deaf biatch in all of Eastern PA and kindly asking me to only lip synch from hear on out. You saved me a lifetime of embarassment and for that I am grateful.

Sorry for the rant, but honestly I get worried sometimes that we’re raising an entire generation of pussies because we’re too afraid to hurt anyone’s feelings.

  • erennick

On a slightly different topic in the same conversation, I would LOVE to see the footage that got left on cutting room floor from the “judge’s mansion.” I mean, who all had to do the sing-offs and with whom? And why didn’t they show everyone at least getting rejected? We never saw Angela Martin or Perrie Caltado or Kenny Hauffenpauer(sp?) and how many others? I’ve always thought that it would truly suck to go through the entire audition process (Chair episode) and not only not make it to the live show, but then watch for yourself (in your audition city or Hollywood) and NEVER see yourself. It would be like you never even existed to tptb. End rant.

  • justshootme

Well, I think he should hush up for their own good, but I personally don’t think there was anything wrong in what he said.

And I think all the 8 year olds should get to play in the game. Even if they suck.

  • SpenserJ

And I think all the 8 year olds should get to play in the game. Even if they suck.

LOL fair enough. I should point out, so I don’t sound like such a total heartless bitch, that I’ve really just seen far too many kids with no athletic ability whatsoever be forced to play a sport year after year when they look totally miserable. Last year, I watched a little guy strike out each time he was at bat through the whole season. His failure was legendary. And he was so sad. My heart broke for him and I just wanted him to be able to go find an activity that he could be good at and enjoy.

LOL – sorry for derailing the topic. I just truly do believe that you do people a favor by pointing out when they’ve had a less than stellar showing or maybe that their talent is just not quite up to superstar status.

  • Niall

Her husband just sounds way too excited, not arrogant. As long as this isn’t something they’ve decided is “a sign from God” and convinced themselves it is her destiny to win. If that’s the case then I’ll have to hope she gets voted off quickly.

  • Niall

Ha. Was your 5th grade music teacher my mother, by chance? After seeing the parade of embarrassing auditions over the years I am so grateful that I had parents who were straight up with me about what I was good and not so good at. Sports? Good. Singing? Please don’t. LOL

  • coveredbygrace01

mj. Thanks for giving me the heads up without just removing my post – I appreciate it. I must admit, though, that I don’t understand your point of view, and I am perplexed by your assessment of my post – what I said, outside of being an actual friend of the contestant, is not that far removed from other comments that have been posted here; including your own in some cases.

The major differences between my post and that of others is the inside perspective of the Bartons and what was intended to be a request to look at and approach things differently. And not just for the Bartons, but for anyone we discuss…anywhere. That being said I will live by your rules while I am on your blog. I also know this is more of a personal response to your post and I would have sent it to you directly instead of posting it on here if I knew how. I understand if you take this post off.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

You might want to read my guidelines:

    http://mjsbigblog.com/?page_id=1172

It’s ok to criticize the Idols here. It’s not ok for posters to lecture other posters.

I get to lecture other people because it’s my blog, and I do the modding.

The major differences between my post and that of others is the inside perspective of the Bartons and what was intended to be a request to look at and approach things differently.

If you would have left it at your inside perspective of the Bartons, that would have been fine. But then you started lecturing, and that’s where you went wrong. I could have deleted the entire second half of your post. Especially, this:

Can we possibly quit trying to read stuff into every nuance of the writings of these contestants and their loved ones; especially when we donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know them? Instead, lets just enjoy the journey with them.

Oh, and in case you didn’t know, the reason Loren deleted all his posts on Felicia’s facebook is because he and the rest of Felicia’s family are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement. He was TOTALLY telling tales out of school. I’m sure he heard about that from the Idol producers today.

  • seattle_girl

I think it’s an unavoidable fallout of gaining “fame” that these contestants and folks close to them will be criticized pretty harshly for what they may think seem like very normal comments. Thick skin is a def requirement for this endeavor. I can absolutely understand her husband making all the statements shown here. No biggie to me. In following Jason Castro last year, we used to hear frequently from a close family friend about how he was handling things etc. But that seemingly innocent dialogue can get ugly (i mean UGH-LEE) so quickly. Just too easy to misconstrue little tidbits in writing and then to flame out over the boards. And I’m betting the same thing has happened with the other Idols as well. It was eye opening for me for sure since his was the first journey I ever got that wrapped up in.

Before I veer too far off topic, I wanted to say I appreciate the behind the scenes commentary for what it is and WISH those close to the Idols could post this kind of info but just don’t see it happening. Either for the legal reasons MJ stated or simply to avoid the furor over misinterpretations.

    Yes! That.

And that. I think closer to 10 or maybe 12. LOL. I’ve just seen too many T-ball/younger little leaguer parents take the games waaaay too seriously for both their own child and the others on the team.

Our kids need to start learning about thick skin, but when and how is the question, but learning about it is a must! IMO, the skin can be thick, but the heart doesn’t need to be.

Oh, and in case you didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know, the reason Loren deleted all his posts on Feliciaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s facebook is because he and the rest of Feliciaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s family are required to sign a non-disclosure agreement. I have to say, it was awesome to read what we did from Felicia’s husband, thanks for this quick post mj!

  • fujisaku

I’m fine with the husband’s comment. I’ve already suspect this before I read the detail post. But really, he shouldn’t say that the misterious girl did average! He should just keep his mouth shut and let the fans spread this rumour. I actually consider spreading this rumour on AI board, ‘cos I feel that she’s being treated unfairly. But now, I think that it’s better if people don’t know that he was saying this thing.

I’m afraid this might hurt her! In case, they put her in the same group with the strongest guys, she won’t make it. They won’t bring her back with WC

Imo, the judges have already had the answered even before Felicia and this girl opened their mouth! A 16 year old girl is more marketable than a mom. AI speciality is probably not finding the best talent, but turning a person from nothing into a superstar (cash cow)

Yes it is interesting that comments like that made in every day conversations among friends and co-workers are perfectly fine with most people. But the second it’s said by someone who is in the public eye, watch out! I mean this just as an observation not a criticism to anything said on this blog. I just find the whole psychology of all this fascinating really. Once you are in the on display to the whole world, seemingly normal every day type of comments can become something so big and controversial. It’s almost funny. It could be because when you are talking with people you know, you generally know how to take those comments, but when do not know the person, it is very open to interpretation. Being a celebrity would simply not be worth it to me. I run my mouth way too much and let things fly way too easily and would probably become one of the most hated people on earth :)

Sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be fine. If you read the entire post at her Facebook, she was preparing songs and getting her look together on the outside chance that sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be called back for the wildcard. She sounds ready, to me.

I wonder if certain contestants were told to prepare just in case someone was disqualified because her talking about the wildcard doesn’t make sense, Mj. I thought that only involves the top 36, doesn’t it?

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

If dude was naming names of ppl then maybe I’d have a problem with what he said that is deemed “arrogant” and “putting others down.” But as it stands, I see him as a proud husband, who is also a musician, who is confident in his wife’s talent and saying so. I can’t have a problem with that. And like Spense said, if it were ME, I would EXPECT my family to be singing my praises.

My understanding is that it is Top 36 only for the wildcard, so maybe Felicia was singled out to stay prepared because the Idol producers knew the “fix was in” on ousting Joanna. It’s fun to speculate but it really doesn’t matter, Felicia’s pretty darn good as these YouTube vids show

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U82SPyc3YZU

and the Joanna Pacitti “controversy” can only help her get notoriety.

  • IdolFanatic

Oh thanks for posting those youtube vids. I had not listened her myspace music before it was taken down. WOW! She’s already making me a fan! She’s REALLY GOOD!

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

Ahhhh those last two are new videos! Cool!

I still wish the others that she had up hadn’t been taken down. Or that they would go back up. I watched them way back when she was spoiled as a top 50 contestant back in November and was impressed with her then. I really would like to watch them again.

I can’t wait to see her actually perform a full 90 seconds of a song… instead of the 5 seconds we’ve gotten so far. I think if she really knocks it out of the park, she really could have a chance to make top 12 even without the wildcard. At least, that’s what I’m hoping for. :)

It hasn’t been stated definitively anywhere that I’ve read that only the Top 36 is eligible for the wildcard.

I honestly think Felicia thought she had a shot at the Wildcard because of the precedent set by Carmen Rasmusen back in Season 2, when Simon pulled her out of Hollywood to make her his wildcard pick.

All bets are off this year. The producers are looking to shock the audience anyway they can. Most of the wildcard contestants will be from the Top 36, but I would not be surprised if they pulled someone from Hollywood, just like in Season 2.

I kind of wondered about this when Paula asked Jamar if he’d come back in the chair ep. I wondered if she was possibly preparing him for being a possible wildcard call back.

Or, have those from the top 50 been able to audition again in the past. I know this has been discussed before, but I forget.
