David Cook begins interviews today with radio stations to promote his new single “Light On” and his upcoming self-titled album due to drop on November 18.

David is conducting interviews from NYC where he is currently mastering his record.   He finished tracking the record on Thursday–all that’s left now are the finishing touches.

Promising an eclectic mix of both “heavy” and “delicate” songs on the album, David says that he attempted to write songs that “forced the label’s hand”–songs so good that the label felt they had to go on the record.

The lineup for David’s touring band includes Neil Tiemann and Andy Skib (Midwest Kings) and two more bandmates –Kyle and Joey (this guy)–chosen through the audition process.

The video for “Light On” will be shot at the end of this week. Wayne Isham (Motley Crue, Metallica, Britney Spears, Gavin DeGraw) has been tapped to direct.

Radio Interviews:

  • KISS 108 – Matty in the Morning – Boston – HERE.
  • 107.5 The River – Woody and Jim – Nashville – HERE
  • XL106.7 – Johnny and Jayde – Orlando – HERE

Some fun, random facts from the interview

  • Ryan Seacrest needs to just say no to Apple Bottom jeans.
  • David’s album will be self titled.
  • Emily Shackleton who wrote à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Dream Big,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , the coronation song David chose to sing for the Final 2 is Boston based. David says that her song was easy to choose, because it was the only one of the bunch that grabbed him in the first 30 seconds.
  • One of the last tracks they recorded features just his vocals, strings, and piano.
  • David will be in Orlando in December to promote Idol’s upcoming Disney Attraction

ETA: I totally re-wrote this post, because…I can!   Heh. No really, I just reorganized it a bit….

  • catswithshades

So David Cook has the record music then the label puts together a band instead of band toether makes music? It really is that way isn’t it. Hey the same thing was braught up about Chris D also and it did work out great. AI sees him of D2 meaning major $$$.

  • spritely

What great interviews. Could those Nashville DJs be any more excited, lol? They lurve him.

    “Joey” is Joey Clement:

Every bit of these interviews has me tingling with anticipation.

  • FolkFan

Mmm. At least one of those members were involved during the recording process—Neil Tiemann. Andy Skib may have also been involved in the recording process, but at a minimum, was around for it, as you can see him in the Making of Light On video. But, yes, there are a lot of studio musicians used on recordings.

Great interview clips. Thanks for posting, MJ.

  • elisad

David has got a really…CUTE band, look at them! I wanna see live performances…

  • sma11ie

Ooh, I posted this in the headlines thread, but I’ll put it here since the conversation has moved on: he says that he’s in NY mastering now. What does that mean, exactly? Does it mean he’s done laying down the vocals?

  • Garnetstar

Orlando Interview will be up later today. I called the station. Who knows what time though?

From a snippet from DCO. I’m guessing the Orlando interview.
He will be in Orlando in December to promote the new AI attraction at Disney World.

That should be all kinds of fun. LOL unless the attraction opens on a weekend, which I doubt, I won’t be able to make it. Boo. Orlando is too freakin big. It takes forever to get anywhere in this city. Sorry personal vent.

  • spritely

Oh, yeah, that band is going to be such a girl-magnet.

The part of the Boston interview about his old bandmates who didn’t make it was kind of painful.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

DAMNIT! He does the Orlando interview on a day that I’m off work, so I wasn’t up early and listening to the radio while getting ready and driving to work?! :wallbash_tb:

But YAY! for him being here in December. I’ll have to talk to my friends and family who work for Disney about that. ;)

And YAY! that he interviewed with that station. That means I should start hearing LO on the radio here soon. That’s how it worked with Jordin and “Tattoo” last year. :)

ETA: Garnetstar, my understanding is that the new attraction is not opening until 2009. So him being here will probably be just to make appearances, tape commercials (which Jordin Sparks was here doing last Thursday), etc.

  • gingerly

Mastering means the songs are already done. They may have to go back for a bit of tweaking but it essentially is anything from setting the volume the same on all songs, tweaking the bass or treble, getting rid of any hisses, fixing stereo issues, putting the spaces between the songs, laying down the track numbers and names. So this to me means they are essentially done with recording and choosing songs.

  • Michelle

One of the last tracks they recorded features just his vocals, strings, and piano.

    Okay: swoon!

  • gingerly

Did he already interview in DC? Does anybody know, if so, what station?

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

One of the last tracks they recorded features just his vocals, strings, and piano.

I’m already marking this one as my favorite. :laugh_tb:

I may have misspoke about that. Does anybody know if he’s doing other interviews today?

  • kathrynTX

He’s KILLIN’ ME! I am beyond excited about this album and a David Cook & Band tour! AAGGGGHGGHH. SO COOL that Andy and Neal from MWK are gonna tour with him. And they are both on the record maybe? Yeah, DAVID COOK, that’s a good title for this album, David Cook. Hee. Squeeee. *jumps for joy and waves hands around and grins like an idiot* Also, I was so hoping for some “quiet,” introspective, acoustic-y tunes on the record too. I’m liking some of those type Axium songs right now. But now, Cook knows what he can do with his voice and has slid right into his very own singing style. GUH I am thrilled! I like (a lot) some of his older songs but I think I’m gonna LURV this new stuff. I figger there will be a mix of song styles and I can’t wait to hear ALL of what he’s giving us. Oh thank you thank you, more new Cook music!

Nice interviews, as usual. He did sound a LITTLE tired, but pepppy nevertheless. Heh he said “serendipitous.” He sounds happy too. And a VIDEO for Light On! I’m saving my video credit on iTunes for that. YAY Cook! Yay David, Neal, Andy, Joey, Kyle – can’t wait to see you guys on tour!
    :jittery_tb: Did I say I’m excited?

  • gingerly

I hadn’t heard about a a Washington DC interview anywhere but here. I’d be delighted to hear it, but I’m good with the 3 as long as we get more cookie crumbs tomorrow.

  • Lisa

I’m waiting for the first person to say:

    Piano, Strings, Vocals & …. :smoke_tb:

David just answered the question, RCA loves David. It sounds like they pretty much gave him carte blanche on his album.

  • spritely

“Piano, Strings, Vocals & a Smoke!”

lol! Perfect. “Yeah, it was good for me, too.”

  • Barbariba

MJ, Thank you for posting David’s interviews.
I’m with KathrynTX. David has made me even more excited to hear his new album! I can not wait. I think the vibe around the band is going to be great. These guys all like and respect each other and I foresee a great tour coming up. I’m so so so excited!!!!!!!

  • sma11ie

Mastering means the songs are already done.

Eeek! Yay, so that’s a good thing, cuz it’s pretty much in line with Kirsten’s description of the labels’ preferred timeline, finishing ~6 weeks prior to the drop date! So much good stuff today that I feel bad griping about two things bothering me: 1) that he’s in NYC, giving radio interviews via phone, but not able to call into a big NYC station, and 2) that the album is self-titled, but that’s just me– I love David’s way with words and the album being self-titled is a lost opportunity for me to dissect his words. I am hanging onto a tiny thread of hope though, because I think he said “probably”– LOL, I know I’m being unrealistic, but I can’t help it.

  • Michelle

There will always be the song titles and lyrics to dissect ;)

  • gingerly

He’s involved with the design of the record too. That seems like an opportunity for quite a bit of dissection.

  • May

Those three interviews were awesome and full of information. Loved his description of the album and his comments about Neil and the band. I must say, he was a little vague about the music video, but the “do you get to make out with a hot chick” question, was hilarious. Also, it’s very nice of him to constantly give full credit to Reggie Hamm for the success of TOML, but he’s way too modest! OK I need to do some work.

  • CathyMK

That Orlando interview was the best of the 3, IMHO- they asked some good questions about his music, then let him answer at length without interrupting him.

I thought we’d heard that they were shooting the video a few weeks ago? Maybe this is a reshoot, or they did exteriors and now they’re doing interiors?

Anyway, it was interesting to hear that RCA said straight out to him, “We want you to make the kind of record that you want to make.” I’d heard versions of that before, but I always thought that he meant they agreed on the general style that the record would be, not that they really gave him carte blanche.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I re-wrote the post a bit to put the important information on top… :)

  • gingerly

The only thing I remember hearing about the video a few weeks ago is that it would be out at the end of October. I’m definitely hoping that’s still true. Doesn’t seem like enough time…but then what do I know.

  • Michelle

David says that he attempted to write songs that that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“forced the labelà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s handà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’songs so good that the label felt they had to go on the record.

Yeah! stick it to The Man with your…quality melodies and heartfelt lyrics, David Cook!

I had no doubt he could outwrite whoever is in the 19 songwriting stable right now.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

I love the XL106.7 morning show in Orlando. The dj’s are hilarious and the show is great. I always missed their recaps of AI (because I was always running late to work from being up late voting the night before lol), but I knew from what I did hear that Jayde was a big DC fan. I wasn’t sure about all the guys, but I’m glad that they all like him. They play the hell out of the rock songs that make the top 40 charts, though, so I guess I should have expected it. :) Jayde is also big on celebrity gossip (she has a celebrity “trash” segment every hour lol) so I totally expected the question about Kim Caldwell from her. LOL.

I hope they ARE able to work out him doing an in-studio interview when he’s here for the Disney thing in December, because if Johnny was talking about what I think he was talking about, that acoustic thing may mean that he’d be doing a mini-set in their new performance studio. AND they usually do ticket giveaways so fans can come and sit in on the performance, so you better believe my ass would be calling in every five seconds to try to win! LOL.

  • sma11ie

he was a little vague about the music video

I think he answered that question really smartly– he gave some really good crumbs about the director and timeline to pique our interest, but shrewdly withheld an actual description of the content, because that would just spoil the surprise, you know? I’m glad he didn’t say, e.g. oh, the video will show me leaving a hot chick behind, and her pining for me while I’m singing with a lighthouse in the background (LOL, that would be funny). I like being able to take the little bit he revealed and trying to figure out what he means when he says normal folks would be able to relate to it. Does that mean they’re going for a more universal theme of leaving loved ones? Let’s discuss and dissect :lol_wp:!

One more bit about the self-title decision (because I’m prone to beat dead horses when I get stuck on a point): maybe the label didn’t want him to name it because he wanted to call it “Important”, and they wanted to protect dear DC from the inevitable media backlash, LOL. I keed, I keed…

  • maturin

The Orlando Deej, Jayde, says “my mom and I are so excited for your album” and then Cook says “well, my mom will buy a copy, so that’s three sold.” Hee!

The Orlando jocks ask really good questions, leading to an intelligent discussion about making the record: whether doing many of his own arrangements on the show bought him leeway with the label, his thought process for the album, what it was like working with the producers.

Other nice tidbits: they discuss how the playing of instruments on the show, he praises Bo Bice, talks about how great it was when he came on this year to do “Witness” avec guitar.

And when the DJ predicts big success, our dude does caveat that “it’s not a sure thing,” and that the day he starts looking at success as assured “is the day it all falls apart.”

I also liked the bit about creating music strong enough that the label would feel “compelled” put it on the record.

That’s an interesting take to me. Not wrestle for control, so much as make the music so alluring that the label feels its in its own interests to let the artist do his own material.

All in all, nice one: informative and relaxed.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

So much good stuff today that I feel bad griping about two things bothering me: 1) that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s in NYC, giving radio interviews via phone, but not able to call into a big NYC station

Isn’t tomorrow the official radio add date?

If so, and he’s still in NY, for some reason I have a small feeling that he’ll be either “dropping by” the studio tomorrow for an in-studio interview, or calling in. Just a hunch. :)

  • elisad

The DJs of “The River” were really nice. Before it they thought he might not call because of time zone confusion and they explained for him. Plus the mancrush comment.

Neal is very active on MySpace, isn’t he? They didn’t keep their playlist with multiple songs functional for a long time and Neal has his playlist all set up, heehee… I was checking it because a drummer commented about Rob Cavallo and um, his name is not Kyle. So I failed at finding out who Kyle is.

  • hypertwink

I have a feeling the video is going to feature 2-3 storylines, about people who go out of state for jobs etc. I mean, David himself is an example since he’s in Tulsa while his mom frets in Missouri. Also, I guess, one of them would probably be a soldier.

  • sma11ie

I also liked the bit about creating music strong enough that the label would feel à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“compelledà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ put it on the record.

Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s an interesting take to me. Not wrestle for control, so much as make the music so alluring that the label feels its in its own interests to let the artist do his own material.

I loved that too, and am thrilled that his work was good enough to make it onto the bulk of the record– but being an overanalyzer by nature, I wonder if David is at all disappointed that one of his own, at least in the eyes of the label, was not compelling enough to be chosen as the first single. He’s been very gracious about Cornell and LO, but DC’s also known to be very diplomatic and complimentary towards everything/one even if he’s not thrilled with it/them (see also: Magic Rainbows). That statement also paints a pretty clear picture to me that RCA was probably throwing him a lot of pre-written songs all summer, and DC, in response, was working his butt off writing and perfecting his own stuff– basically fighting his way to make the his best work ever in order to convince the label that what he creates is worthy as well– all this while racing against time in the middle of a grueling AI tour schedule. Wow. I’m in need of a nap just thinking about how hard he’s been working. I can’t wait to see the fruits of his labor!

  • forlife

So David has a touring band? He’s still going to be David Cook, solo artist?
That’s good, a lot of artist have a touring band, Taylor Hicks, Carrie, Kelly, etc. :smile1_tb:

  • gingerly

My take on it is he’s thrilled that a single is out. He’s thrilled the record is making him happy. He’s thrilled he’s not bartending. He’s thrilled he was able to pay his back rent. He’s absolutely thrilled to have had this chance. He’s worked long and hard enough to know just what this really means. I don’t know how a #1 song, the longest charting coronation single, that is on the brink of going platinum could be disappointing to him. I seriously doubt he’s harboring any secret disappointments. I also think sometimes we project our own fears/disappointments on the object of them. I personally try very hard not to do that.

  • hollygo9

KathrynTX, I like how you think.

I’m so squeeee for a David Cook Tour!

  • sma11ie

I also think sometimes we project our own fears/disappointments on the object of them.

Nah, I just like to overanalyze and speculate. I think DC’s given us every indication that he’s thrilled with everything, and not worrying about the stuff that his fans are. And I’m personally not all that disappointed that the first single isn’t DC-written, cuz I dig LO, and I know the rest of the record would be chock full of DC lyrics to mull over ad nauseum. I’d say my little bit of disappointment with LO is only to the extent that this makes me more impatient to hear the rest of the record– I really want to check out DC’s songwriting progression since AI.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

I like this thought. In one of the interviews, he did mention that he’s just anxious to get the record out there. All in all, it just seems like this has been a really long journey. Now that he’s in the eye of the public, he’s aching to show them that “this is what I’m capable of!!!” I can totally understand that.

  • gingerly

Nah, I just like to overanalyze and speculate.

I’m absolutely anxious to hear it too. I just don’t tend overanalyze or speculate because I find no point in it. I’m all about the cookie crumbs and how very happy he seemed today in each of the interviews.

  • Scifisam

So, I’m assuming that there will eventually come a time when I can see him in a video or listen to an interview with him and I won’t fall further in love with him. It just hasn’t happened yet.

As at least one other person is, I’m going to hold on to the fact that he said it will “probably” be self titled (even though MJ said it was self titled three times in her post. lol) I guess I’m just in denial. Oh well, It won’t be important once I’ve got it in my grubby little paws.

  • sma11ie

I just donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t tend overanalyze or speculate because I find no point in it.

That’s where mileage comes in, I guess. I try not to go overboard, but for the most part, the overanalyzing is fun for me because I tend to keep it mostly positive, with the occasional worry/hand-wringing comment thrown in for discussion purposes and to hear others’ thoughts here. But I try not to put out too much of a negative vibe in my comments that that I’d either work myself up into a frenzy or start requiring medication, LOL (poorly paraphrasing Noctem, I think). I like to speculate on how difficult yet ultimately rewarding this journey must’ve been for DC, and I’m excited to see it culminate in his record. I don’t doubt the experience has been enjoyable for him, since he’s said so, but I bet that along the way, there’ve also been obstacles, etc. he’s had to overcome, naysayers he’s had to win over, etc. That all is tremendously interesting for me– like the way too short behind the scenes clip on LO, and DC angsting sotto voce that “This is the hardest song to sing”? I want a 2-hour long VH-1 special on the making of the record, I’m so greedy for that sh!t, haha.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Nah, I just like to overanalyze and speculate.

So do I! I encourage it on my site, in fact. So, thanks for contributing.

There wouldn’t be much of a conversation in the threads here if they were filled with relentless, non-stop cheerleading for an Idol. I don’t discourage cheerleading, but there will be room for all types of discussion here on my site. I want people to feel comfortable thoughtfully criticizing the Idols, maybe even *gasp* criticizing their favorites. Yep, this is the place to do it. Fansites tend to shout down dissension, and this ain’t no fansite.

Just something to keep in mind as we move into the thick of the Idol record season.

PS. I’m also going to remind you all NOT to question or speculate on your fellow posters motives. BTW, I can see right through thinly veiled I and we statements…

  • IndyMuse

I listened to all 3 interviews in succession without knowing which was which, but I noticed something in one (which I can’t identify) that no one mentioned. It seemed like at one point the DJs he was talking to seemed to be laughing about those from his old band who didn’t make the new one, and even about those who did make it. It seemed like several times I could hear David trying to get a word in edge-wise, I suspect to defend them, but he never got to speak up. He always has good things to say about people he has worked with, and it was probably hard for him to hear them being laughed about. I only listened once, so I might have heard wrong, but that’s what seemed to be happening.

I appreciate how he definitely held up Andy and Neal as being equal to anyone out there today. Based on MWK, I have to agree.

  • Mia

Gracious, excited, funny, self-deprecating and tantalizing with the bits about the album. Today has been a very good day to be a David Cook fan.

BWHAHAHHAHAHHA! Welcome to Cookdom. Resistance is futile. Ah. At one time, I thought “When AI is over, I’ll get back to normal.” Then “When I get to see the Dallas Idol show….” “When I get to see him in Kansas City….” “When I get to meet him and give him a present….” “When I get to see him at the Tulsa show….” Ummmmmmmm…how about NEVER! I’m just not gonna stop falling for this guy any time soon, I must face it. And certainly, now that we’re about to hear some NEW music from him, there’s nowayinhell I’m not getting sucked even further into Cookdom. I have butterflies in my stomach today! I’m SOOOO excited for him. And for us fans. I could analyze and discuss and go on & on. Bottom line is I just must listen to him sing every day. I am thrilled to hear anything new from him and I constantly wonder what he’ll do next. I think “David Cook” is a great title for this album. Hah. I’m so happy for him – and the other guys who have been stuggling to make it doing what they love and now can make a living!

ETA: I guess I’ve been a cheerleader of late. Duh. I don’t post on fansites any longer – maybe I should. But I like mjs best. OK when Cook’s album comes out, I’ll analyze and criticize!

Thanks! This is why MJ’s is my chosen residence for this Idol record season, and I’m not on any fanboards (though those are great for their purposes too). I’m a DC fan who really likes a bunch of the other S7 Idols, and I love the environment here– I get my DC news, and learn something new every time I post.

Yeah, this did happen. They particularly poked fun at Andy, talking about his previous bar gigs. Here’s a portion: “You know Andy’s got to be nervous. You can play with anybody you want. Here’s Andy holding on to that gig in Kansas City…that Tuesday night open mic gig he’s still working…”

David actually said he’d put his guitarist up against any out there.

Howdy lucyfan! Heh…criticize doesn’t mean I’ll say anything bad about David! hahaha. I’m using this definition: to make judgments as to merits and faults. Oh OK, I could find some faults, I’m sure. Let’s do a song-by-song discussion of the new album. Guh…guyliner FTW, indeed. hee.

I just listened to the Orlando interview. Do I have any friends in Orlando I need to visit around the first part of December? In-studio acoustic stuff…sigh. And I DO like when David says that the day he starts resting on laurels is the day it all falls apart. Yep, you just keep WORKING, young man! Take nothing for granted.

Man, I really hope that acoustic thing in Orlando comes to pass, and that station posts that whole damn thing online! Dying in anticipation.

    sma11ie,

I also happen to be curious by nature, so ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interesting for me to throw out little concerns here and there and see if others echo them at all or if Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m being crazy.

Man, I really hope that acoustic thing in Orlando comes to pass, and that station posts that whole damn thing online! Dying in anticipation.

Well I KNOW I’m crazy! Hah. Me too on the curious thing. I know nothing about how this biz works really, and I’ve learned a bit from reading here. “Radio adds?” WTF? Just put it on the radio already, it’s OUT. Don’t work that way, apparently. Sometimes though, I think “What makes us think that the simplest, most obvious, explanation is NOT the truth?” Is everything complicated? I dunno. Maybe. Maybe not.

I hope that David really is as happy about this album as he sounds in these interviews. I have expectations too – I expect to love it, every song. And sometimes, I have to play songs several times before I like them. I want to be able to discern every word too, please, David. Enunciate. There were some AI performances (David’s) that I was unsure about when I saw them “live” on TV. But now, at least one of those is one of my very favorites (that would be Dare You To Move).

To Whom It May Concern: Please post (for all to hear who care to hear) any acoustic thingymadoodles by Mr. Cook, please. Thank you.

Yes, over the top guyliner FTW. I was at Newark 2nd night and that image is burned in my brain. I think it takes the All-American Idol image – crumples it in a ball, stomps on it, and kicks it to the curb.
    Not Newark But Darn Close

” Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m assuming that there will eventually come a time when I can see him in a video or listen to an interview with him and I wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t fall further in love with him. It just hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t happened yet.”

It would take extreme measures to kill the widespread Dave Cook fan love, but it could be done.

The Proposed David Cook Complete Fan Alienation Project

    * shaves head to be more like Daughtry and tattoos “Cook” on his face
    * rerecords Archie’s “Crush” as thrash-metal, coupled with a disastrously literal video in which live puppies and hamsters are crushed to death by band members on the steps of a church
    * destroys national banking system through reckless speculation in mortgage securities
    * duet with Taylor

  • Keel

    maturin:

You forgot Cook starring in a reality show called Cook of Love (tm someone brilliant on DCO).

. . . because my lurve would persevere through all of the above that you mentioned, though I suspect I will have found my limit if Cook becomes the new Flavor Flav.

  • LK08

Maturin- you are VERY funny. My favorite one was “destroys national banking system through reckless speculation in mortgage securities” :O

    Maturin FTW!!! LOL!

Thank you for posting the links to these interviews. I love to hear anything from him and about him. I did notice that Matty in the Morning didn’t have Light On the Kiss playlist. That was the only thing disappointing. I don’t understand for the life of me why it is being played more on the radio. He has literally millions of fans just sitting out here waiting. What in the world are they thinking??? I did enjoy the interviews though, buy please if anyone has any advice as to how to get the local radio stations to play his new single, please pass it on. I am getting beyond frustrated.

One of the last tracks they recorded features just his vocals, strings, and piano.

    Quietly, perhaps?

  • Aileen

ShariG, LO was added to 14 Hot AC stations today. Top 40 adds are going to come out tomorrow at 3 pm. It’s a start, and I assume the radio play will continue to increase.

I think the buildup is for the album. Once the video comes out at the end of the month, and DC starts the media blitz and performances, LO should pick up both in sales and radio play.

Album sales is what’s important. I think we’ll have a clear idea by Christmas how the record is received. Waiting is the hardest part.

Here are the 14 Hot AC station adds and their market rankings for LO from All Access. As Aileen pointed out, top 40 will come tomorrow. :)

Everytime a station adds a song to their playlist, they have to kick another off. Sometimes they have every intention of eventually adding something, they just aren’t ready to kick out any songs from their present list or there is another song out there that takes precedence. Patience!

  • FolkFan

14 is a good jump in adds. As of today’s rolling mediabase charts, LO was about 6 spins away from making the Top 50 on HAC. With these adds, it seems like there is a really good chance that LO will be in the Top 50 tomorrow. (Fingers crossed.) I get the sense that some stations are leaders, others wait until the adds dates, others wait until they see if a song is getting a decent amount of airplay at other stations before playing it. There’s good reason to think that LO may be about to cross that threshold at HAC.

Very interested to see what happens with Top 40 adds tomorrow.

  • ShariG

Thanks for the encouraging words, Aileen. I am impatient, I’ll admit it. I spend my time on the radio surfing stations listening for David Cook and end up listening to my downloads because it is too frustrating hearing some of the same garbage on the radio, can I say crap?? The most frustrating thing is that the song is good. It is better than most of what is out there. The second most frustrating thing is that radio station decisions seem to be out of our hands. I politely call and email requests, but no luck. It was far more satisfying to be able to telephone votes until my fingers turned blue. I’m trying to be optimistic, but I thought it would be played more by now. I don’t see how it is going to get more airplay if everyone is waiting to see how it does everywhere else. This is a song that deserves air play and a performer that deserves support and success. I wish there was more that I could do personally to help.

    That was my initial thought….

    Oh, I hope so.

    KLTG-FM Corpus Christi, TX (#136)

    Yes! About darn time!!!

Now I wait to hear it.

  • LK08

ShariG- It IS very frustrating when you feel it is out of your hands. DA fans have often been frustrated by stations that won’t play Crush and some DJ’s that make snide remarks about him.

My advice to Cook fans would be to just keep requesting all over, and vote on the things that come up. If by voting on something that is totally numbers driven, you can get your guy up in the ranks, he might get noticed by some who will try to ignor him for whatever reason.

I would think with TOML out there and doing so well, that would be a big plus, although I realize it is very different music.

Talk about hearing some garbage on the radio, DA was on Open House Party last night for an interview for about 30 seconds. Many fans listened for hours, expecting at least a few minute interview. It was REALLY painful. I guess these guys have to play the game to get heard in many different places and the fans have to be patient with some of the venues.

“Light On” is now No. 56 in iTunes overall and No. 19 in Pop Category….btw who categorizes songs into Rock, Pop, Jazz, etc.? always thought that Cook’s songs would be categorized under Rock………

  • Lu

Late to the party and forgive me if it’s been posted and I missed it… Has KIIS FM in LA added either of the Davids songs?

  • JOJOSIE

I live in Iowa and my local pop station played both Time Of My Life and Light On today. I hardley ever listen to the station but my stepgranddaughter was in the car several times today and she likes that station. I heard TOML first and then just before I got home the DJ said now here’s the new single by David Cook. I don’t even know the name of the station but I may have to listen again. I was really surprised (but pleased). I really want him to suceed as long as it’s the way he wants sucess

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

    Lu,

So far KIIS FM hasn’t added either of their songs yet.

  • Layla

OMFG!!! For you euro fans (and Americans in Europe) I just found out that you can pre- order DC’s record form Amazon.uk!!!! The release date is 18 November, and amazon.uk usually sends out pre-orders before the date.Hope there are no cokups here! This means that we can have it when all of the other stateside fans get it.

Now I’ve ordered it from .com and .uk….and I still want my sister to send it to me from CA!

Can’t wait to analyze, pick faves and compare notes with you all. This is gonna be AWESOME!!!!!!!

Hope you don’t mind I put this here MJ:)

I really enjoy coming here to read all of the comments whether encouraging, discouraging or analyzing.
I like to read over all of the comments, glean information, think about what’s been said, mull it all over and come to my own conclusions whether right or wrong. And then I like to sometimes add my 2 cents.
I have learned so much about the music industry here!!!! (I’m sure what my mind can handle is only the tip of the iceburg. LOL!)

May, here’s my 2 cents on this:

Also, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s very nice of him to constantly give full credit to Reggie Hamm for the success of TOML, but heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s way too modest!

I believe the fact that he wants to give so much credit to Reggie Hamm is a reflection of how important the writing process is to him!!! Yay!!! To me that’s one of the things that’s so exciting about his album, we are going to hear words written (or at least co-written) by David Cook himself! WooHoo!!! I. CANNOT. WAIT!!!!!

mj, thanks for posting these interviews and for your awesome blog!!!!

    An interview from today:

David Cook with Dave & Jimmy on 97.9 (Columbus)

His interview with Boston’s Mix 98.5 should be up shortly.

  • Layla

Good interview with Dave and Jimmy…says his name will be all over the record…is it effin’ November yet???????

  • sma11ie

Thanks for the link, GwendolynD! You guys are awesome for keep us up to date with all the morning radio interviews.

I wish it was longer (maybe I’m spoiled from yesterdays’ gems), but I’m sooo thrilled he got to talk up LO on the Columbus interview! He speaks really highly of it, and seems happy with its choice as a single, so that makes me happy.

And somehow, that makes me doubly happy for the rest of the songs on the record. It brings me back to something he said yesterday, about the rest of the record really standing up to LO, or something. I love that he got that in there–he’s so frickin excited about the whole record, and that’s awesome, cuz we are too! Personally, I think DC’s being humble by merely saying the other songs stand up to LO, because he doesn’t want to talk up them up over the current single at the moment, but what he really means is that if you like LO, you’ll flove the rest of the record, which will knock you socks off (TM KLC?) with it kick ass twists and turns. Yes, that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it, obsessive over-reading notwithstanding, haha.

That Boston interview is great. Is this the first we’re hearing he collaborated with Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls?

Press and promotion starting November 1st, radio Christmas shows through December, time off for the holidays then he starts back up in January. Sounds good to me :)
