David Cook performed an acoustic “Time of My Life” as the US Olympic team filed off the stage during today’s Oprah Winfrey Show. Today’s season premiere featured the US Olympic team.

Oprah introduced “Time of My Life” as the “signature theme of the Beijing games.” Pretty sweet! Magic Rainbows for everyone!

Watch the video after the JUMP…

I’m not nationalistic at all but I got teary- eyed waching these wonderful American Atletes looking and feeling so good about their dream of participating in the Olympics, to the background of David Cook singing TOML…on freakin’ Oprah!

Hope this increases his sales. And you know, with the exception of the phrase “magic rainbows” he makes this a retty damn good song!

  • gabam

Until today on Oprah, I had not realized that Cook had gotten a shorter haircut. Looks cute now. Who knew that facial hair and a hair cut could make such a big difference?

The show was good. David sounded very good. Great break and great memory for him.

  • Jolene

OK, MJ, You rule! I’ve been waiting for that video to surface all day long. Should’ve known this was the only place I needed to look!

…Now I’ll go and actually watch it. (-:

  • gerreb

He slowed it down quite a bit. Still sounded nice. He sure looks handsome though, lol.

  • vixen

that was such a great segment, and man did he look good. A !

  • Jolene

Awww, that was so lovely! They really did good with the editing – this was supposed to be about celebrating the athletes and their accomplishment, and I think they got just the right mix to make it a real feel good TV moment.
How great for David to get this kind of exposure, and to have his single referred to as a “Signature theme” of the Olympics?
Not to mention, being the sports fan that he is, I’m sure he was stoked to meet some of those Olympians.
I’m so happy for him. I’ll bet he never thought the AI corontion song would get him anything like this.
    Awww!

So, I’m glad you got this, because my dumb ass forgot to set the DVR to record it last night. DAMNIT.

    But thank you, MJ!!

  • mac

Yay for David Cook! He looked and sounded amazing. That whole segment brought tears to my eyes. Loved all the athletes.

  • Grammie Kari

What a wonderful opportunity for David. I am very happy he got the exposure to other demographic groups, plus meeting some of the Olympians. How great is that. Kudos to Oprah.

  • leome

he looked lovely there and acoustic version of that song is really good.
I liked the un expected high five and the one who put his gold medal on him. lol

  • J

A simply beautiful moment shared by all. (If this had been scripted it wouldn’t have been even close). Makes me proud of everyone there…bravo.

  • sciencefan

    Thank you mj.
I knew you would post it!
I was watching for it but my daughter convinced me that I was mistaken and that he wouldn’t be singing today.
    Whatever.
    What else is new.

  • GEEK4VOCAB

Oprah is on now but I couldn’t wait till the end. I had to watch it here!

The only thing I missed was the moment in the commercial where one of the Olympians pats him on the shoulder. Must have been edited out.

Other than that, this was wonderful! Thanks for the video.

  • abbysee

You guys had to know MJ was on the job! Always here with the hookup! What a great moment. He done good!

  • 123abc456

Good Job David, Good job Oprah. It was very beautiful. Somehow this song has got me. Oh and of course good job Olympians and thanks MJ

  • chewsday

Don’t throw any rotten eggs or tomatoes, please, but I’ve been a bit out of the loop. I had the TV on but wasn’t paying much attention. Then I heard Daughtry singing and thought, “What’s he doing on TV in the afternoon?” Then I recognized the song; it wasn’t Daughtry; it was Cook!

(Oh, and I have nothing against either one of them. Time to duck!)

  • EmmaJK

I watched it on tv so I could see it on the big screen, but I KNEW MJ would have it up here! David looked great, he sounded fantastic, and what a thrill for him. I love acoustic rainbows. The Olympian (does anyone know who that was?) putting his medal against David’s chest. How cool!

  • Barbariba

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! MJ you are the best!
Add me to those who got teary-eyed watching. It was a beautiful moment and one I’m sure David will never forget.

  • maturin

I have not watched an Oprah for a million years till this one. Aww, all those neat hardworking awesome athletes–one last chance to (virtually) smush them in a big hug, plus Cook!Smile!Rainbow!Win! It was neat.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

David sure was cheesin’ hard. He must have been stoked to meet some of those athletes. The high five – did it come from Misty May-Treanor?

    Thanks, MJ!

Today – and today only – Oprah rocks. :)

  • annoula

I love when one of the Olympians puts his medal in front of Cook. That was cute.

    Nicely done.

  • Trina

    Thanks as always MJ!

For about 3 hours I’ve had this stupid grin on my face I can’t seem to remove. Everything about that was just right and I’m so proud of David and his little rainbow that could, oh wait excuse me I mean the signature song of the Beijing Olympics woot!!

I just loved when Ryan Miller held his medal to David’s chest. I actually held it together pretty well until the confetti started falling..then I was taken a back to his winning moment and waterworks started.

Thanks, MJ! I thought DC did an awesome job.

I was a little disappointed they didn’t get some better shots of the beauty of Pritzker Pavillion with the skyline. Hopefully, they did somewhere during the show. I may watch when it repeats tonight if I’m still up.

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

I really enjoyed the performance. DC got some good TV exposure again while the focus of the performance remained on the athletes. Very nice. :)

  • gingerly

They did show at least one of the skyline. They showed one of the park from the air too. I didn’t see the bean, but saw the gardens so it must have been from the south. I will try to stay up and watch it again tonight too.

  • bigepaz

awesome performance by DC, but dammit, I too forgot to set my DVR! Usually they re-run Oprah around midnight in my area. I hope that is still the case.

Hooray for Magic Rainbows! Good exposure for the AI Season 7 winner.

  • AInoob

For anyone who watched the show, the woman who high-fived Cookie, I think was the same one who did the cartwheel when Oprah asked the Women’s Track & Field team to come up. I thought that was Stephanie Brown-Trafton. As for the athlete who put the gold on Cookie’s chest, not sure who he was.

I watched the rerun of Oprah tonight just so I could see Cookie on the big screen. It was so heartwarming to see all the Olympians on stage together. I was so stoked when Cookie was announced, he looked fantastic and sounded great.

  • http://mjsbigblog.com lucyfan

What a lovely show. And Cookie looked and sounded mahhhvelous, as usual. Dammit – the song has really gotten to me. I was all verkempt! Way to go, DC. Awesome.

  • Sarah

Gold medals all around… to MJ, to Oprah, to those wonderful, lovely, inspiring Olympians who had me transfixed last month, and to David for doing such a beautiful job (and looking gorgeous and happy while he did it). It was a great show!

  • hollygo9

Everything about him reduces me to a squealing 13 yr old girl.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

Score! I just remembered that Oprah re-airs in my area as well, at 9 pm, so I WILL have this on my DVR for posterity’s sake. :) Woo hoo!

  • Ipurr4DC

Thanks MJ for the video. That was such a great show all the way around. Did you notice Oprah’s face after she hugged David ?? She had this cougar grin like “oh my he is gorgeous up close!!!!” Ya, he’ll be on her show, I’d bet my measley paycheck on it. :wink1_tb:

I know this was the athlete’s time to get some love from the crowd, but would it be too much to ask just have the bottom corner of the screen devoted to David singing the whole song?? :rolleyes_tb:

  • Michelle

I never watch Oprah but had to record the show today to catch DC. Now, I haven’t been following the tour for a little while now but wow, he looks GOOD! and has managed to keep his voice in tip top condition it seems :)

Super job on the song. Cheesing away in front of millions of viewers and the Olympic stars on freakin Oprah no less didn’t faze him one bit. Goosebumps! Hee I remember now why I’m a fan. Yay David!!!

  • FolkFan

That was lovely. I don’t have any other words to describe it….

  • cookcricket

Oh my gosh!!! That was awesome! I got tears in my eyes! DC looked so happy as some of them greeted him as they passed by, and they definately showed him much more than I expected! AND Oprah called it the signature song of the Olympics!!! WOW!

MJ, as soon as I knew I would miss this show I just simply thought I’ll just watch it on mj’s!!! THANK YOU so much!!!

  • IGetCranked

What a moment for Cook! He’s having plenty of those this year though. :)

  • dante

Way to go David Cook!!! You are living your dream! And you looked and sounded incredible!

    :clap_tb:

  • justic

tears and chills all around for me
oh boy, i had the TIME OF MY LIFE watching this (over & over & over & …)
oprah seems very smitten with the hottie cookie (who can blame her, right?) and his SIGNATURE song for the olympics!
oh he’ll be back on that show alright and soon!
i think i’ll go to O’s website to thank her for sharring her stage with MR. David Roland Cook.
cookie, short-cutting so many artists working their buttocks to get on oprah’s show, that is all kind of WIN.
this guy is THE GEM. i can feel the “Bono Vibe” around him.
and thank you so much MJ for this.

  • Autumn

Holy Cow! DC is looking so fine with his hair cut, and also looking really rested-Gorgeous just gorgeous! What an honor and how incredibly lucky for DC that all the stars aligned and this “cheesy rainbow” (which I have always liked) song became his months before the Olympics-it is a PERFECT song for sports moments and will be used for years to come. Some of the athletes looked as stoked to meet him as he was to be there with them! What an unbelievable summer this man has had WOW! I can’t wait for whats next!

  • ShariG

Thank you, thank you. I was at worked and missed it and was totally bummed out. David Cook just gets finer every day. Love the hair cut, love the smile, love the song, love the voice. Well, I just love the guy. Thanks for sharing the video.

  • justic

i’ll post it here too because i know the cookie love is very much focused on this specific thread right now and i think you all should see it (MJ if it’s not ok just erase it)

someone on d-c.org said that cookieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s new SINGLE is out september 15th, thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s NEXT MONDAY!!!!!!!!!!
there is also the newsletter message about the single on DCà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s myspace so
    COULD THIS BE TRUE?

  • Sarah

Oh my, sprinting to those places now to check it out!

  • BootStar

Thank you so much for posting this, MJ! I actually HAD remembered to set my DVR but the freakin’ power went out at 2:00 pm and didn’t come on again until 10:00. I would have been so despondent if I hadn’t known I could come here and watch the video.

I really am so sick of that song (and I don’t even listen to commercial radio), but dammit if that performance didn’t make me tear up all over again, just like I did back in May when DC won. He sounded awesome, and I thought Oprah’s producers did a great job of finding just the right balance. Good times!

  • Patchchat

That boy is hot…blazing, molton hot. And yes Michelle, his voice has held up wonderfully.

    So happy for him.

I too noticed that some of the athletes seemed as jazzed to see him as the audience was to see them. Perhaps some of the audience came to see David? that woulda been the draw for me…I confess.

I can’t explain why I’m so invested in this boy, but I am and I’m enjoying every moment I spend following his burgeoning career.
