David Cook goes golfing with buddies Raine Maida (Our Lady Peace) and producer Rob Cavallo. David sucks, kinda. Hilarity ensues!

  • SashaB

This was hilarious. I love that Dave is friends with Raine and Cavallo. That’s so cool. And yup, he’s competitive.

  • LindaT

Fun video. A score of par doesn’t seem bad to me. (Of course, my golf experience is mainly limited to “Putt-Putt” miniature golf, so what do I know?)

  • Fergie

This vid is the reason I love Cook, beyond the VOICE of course. The guy is just real and down to earth. How many celebs would let you see them being a total goof ? Love the cursing with each wack at the ball.

  • happycamper

I love this video. I know jack shit about golf, but he’s hilarious.

  • leome

LOL David will have to inform the mother of his future first son of what he did that day…
And publishing is such a musician thing!

I don’t think I had ever seen Raine… no idea he was that good looking! And funny too. lol

  • sma11ie

I already commented on this in the Headlines thread, but I’ll just say quickly, I love the editing on this piece– I love that DC comes off so cute and funny and self-deprecating. Also, I just want to reiterate, I HATE the golf outfit. I simply never want to see my favorite rock musicians dress like my dad, period. I liked Raine’s look. He looked good. David looked… goofy, heh.

  • tierbee

Hehe, my dad’s a golfer… it’s not easy to look hot in golfing clothes! Though I did like Raine’s man in black look… didn’t realize he was a hottie ;)

  • Sydia

Love this…too funny. He has such a terrible golf swing…

  • SarahBeth

He’s too much fun. I can’t stop watching this because it makes me laugh. :)

  • AInoob

What an adorable video! I love that he doesn’t take himself too seriously and wasn’t afraid of showing his less than stellar golf skills on video. The interaction between him, Cavallo and Maida was also cool to see, they seemed to have a nice camaraderie between them. Maybe with time, David’s golf outfits will lean more toward Raine’s style than his current one but one thing at a time. First he must work on his game, then he can tweak his style on the green, lol.

This was all very Happy Gilmorish to me :)

  • Suzanne

I wonder who lives at 12924?

  • leome

Ah, I was watching it again and they’re now covering the number of the door. Well, they should have noticed it before making it available…

  • 123abc456

I love this and thanks for giving this video it’s own thread. He is so cute and you know so is Raine Maida and Rob Cavallo. Great video.

  • dv

    hilarious.

  • maturin

There should be a whole series of videos in which Cook looks adorable and hangs out with music industry buddies while being bad at sports.

    Lacrosse with Meatloaf!

    Cricket with Simon Fuller!

Synchronized swimming with his band versus DAUGHTRY!

  • sma11ie

Maybe with time, David’s golf outfits will lean more toward Raine’s style than his current one

You know what makes me laugh? There’s a part in the video when David’s sitting next to Rob in the golf cart and I noticed that David’s horizontal striped shirt is just like Rob’s, but in a different color. And I had this thought, wow, they could be twins! Haha, that, coupled with the fact that I’m pretty sure my dad has that exact red shirt, seriously took away any attraction I have for DC. (Don’t worry, still love him). My point is, David, you want to emulate the hot rock star’s look, not the older producer guy’s!

  • colette

A delightful, humble guy with a great attitude as always, that David.

What is it, by the way, with young musicians and golf? Taylor plays also, and a lot of others. I only ask because back in my youthful days, golf was considered desperately uncool — something only your businessman father and his (male) cronies would do, to relax and make deals.

Anyone have any light to shed on this rocker golf craze? Has it been goin’ on for years and I just missed it?

  • IdolThoughts

I love hearing him say “shit”. Is that so wrong?

  • leome

What is it, by the way, with young musicians and golf?

LOL I read not long ago Kelly Clarkson saying she was getting into golf.

  • BootStar

I love this video. I know jack shit about golf, but he’s hilarious.

    Ditto!

And, yeah, there’s something about seeing all these “cool” rocker dudes playing golf that just doesn’t sit right with me. Isn’t golf the walking definition of UNcool? But, DAYUMN, Raine Maida is hot! And is it just me, or does Andy Skib look a bit like him?

Speaking of Cook bandmates who look like iconic “celebrities,” what happened to Joey Clement and where the hell is he? :cry_tb:

  • sidney

OMG like Daivd Cook totally golfs like wow…so do I maybe I can jion a league wait I stink can not sing and a peasant nobody dam it won’t work.. Next up David Cook learns to shoot and eats a corn dam he is soo great at it like totally wow…(sarcasm a brand of humor aimed at DC)

  • cookmerized

I love hearing him say ‘shit’ . Is that so wrong?

Obviously, I agree with you IdolThoughts. I think it’s because it makes him seem more like us. With that potty mouth, for sure we are destined to be friends. Fuck yeah!

  • AInoob

Isn’t Timberlake a huge golfer too? I don’t get the appeal but then I associate it with the guys at work who use golf to schmooze clients and other industry bores. The only extent of my own personal experiences with golf have been of the miniature variety, lol.

  • tierbee

Next up David Cook learns to shoot and eats a corn

I, for one, do not want to see him eat “a corn” which makes me think of… feet (ew).

But I would, however, watch him learn to shoot and eat a *piece* of corn :)

  • oceana

I agree the outfit looks a bit schlubby, is that even a word? But I love that he’s hanging out with those guys, and I always love his sense of humor. He seems to move comfortably in many different worlds, always being himself, down to earth and easygoing, and he seems to get along well with everyone. He doesn’t seem thrown off his orbit by fame. He just seems to fit in easily. Very likable guy, on top of being a great singer, and I loved hearing Rob C. say that too. :)

  • Balance

    Hey MJ –

Yahoo has blurred out the address in the video, do you think maybe it would be a good idea to use a different screencap for this thread? Not telling you how to run your site or anything, cause you’re awesome, I’m just saying…

  • aga

David is adorkable. I love him. Nice house, nice car btw.

  • IdolThoughts

I love hearing him say ‘shit’ . Is that so wrong?

Obviously, I agree with you IdolThoughts. I think it’s because it makes him seem more like us. With that potty mouth, for sure we are destined to be friends. Fuck yeah!

Yes. So true. Remember that old vid of him singing Tenacious D? That was another vulgar fave. Cookie is a tad nasty. I loves it!!!

  • happycamper

Raine Maida: “Dave is a great singer. As for his golf game, well, he’s a great singer.”

Bwahahahaha. I can’t stop giggling at this video.

  • LaraC

Raine Maida: ‘Dave is a great singer. As for his golf game, well, he’s a great singer.’

hehe, yeah that one was funny. Raine’s a cutie.

  • ladymadonna

And, yeah, there’s something about seeing all these ‘cool’ rocker dudes playing golf that just doesn’t sit right with me. Isn’t golf the walking definition of UNcool?

My hometown has a really thriving live music scene, and consequently I know a fair number of working musicians. Almost all of my friends in bands play golf for relaxation. There were one or two holdouts for awhile, but both have started taking lessons. At first I thought it was strange that all these hipster guys would swap their skinny jeans and ironic t-shirts for collared shirts and pleated pants on the weekends, but so many guys I know play now that it just seems like part of the lifestyle. Apparently it’s hip to be square again.

And I do know there are a number of really good celebrity amateurs who play at scratch or near-scratch handicaps. Alice Cooper is a fantastic golfer, as are Justin Timberlake and Vince Gill.

  • SpenserJ

Anyone have any light to shed on this rocker golf craze? Has it been goin’ on for years and I just missed it?

Alice Cooper claims that playing golf regularly helped him to fight his drug addiction. Getting out in the fresh air, staying busy for 3 to 4 hours, and not sitting home and getting high. Maybe that’s the appeal. So, they won’t fall into the life. Alice has been sober for decades, and he has like a 6 handicap, so I guess it worked out for him.

A lot of kids start playing golf younger these days too. My son’s been going to the course with my husband since he was 2 and half, and playing a full 18 holes since he was 5. Everybody wants to be the next Tiger Woods LOL. So, it could just be a continuation of an activity they have previously enjoyed.

I know the clothes are bad, but they don’t really have a choice. Most clubs require a collared shirt and have other strict dress codes. Plus, the shirt has to be made of a material, and fit in a certain way to allow someone to basically twist their entire torso, while throwing their arms back far enough to touch their spines.

The clothes are made to not hinder your game. Something to tight or too stiff will restrict your movement. And, anything too loose will get in the way of your swing.

My husband has about 47 different variaties of that shirt David is wearing. The colors and the patterns change, but it’s basically always the same damn shirt.

I do question why whoever made this video was stupid enough to have David’s house number in the background while he’s talking. Have they never seen the nutters who’ve attend 35 of David’s shows? Poor guy’s going to have to move now.

  • Trina

Obviously, I agree with you IdolThoughts. I think it’s because it makes him seem more like us. With that potty mouth, for sure we are destined to be friends. Fuck yeah!

I’m still pretty partial to this gem form the Declaration tour kick off show “crap I just said fuck in front of Simon Fuller” :lol_tb: Oh David I love that lack of filter.

Justin Timberlake is such a golf nut he owns his own course.

  • lakerchristinee

Man, D-Cook. Love him, love him, love him!

  • BootStar

I do question why whoever made this video was stupid enough to have David’s house number in the background while he’s talking. Have they never seen the nutters who’ve attend 35 of David’s shows? Poor guy’s going to have to move now.

I was thinking the same thing when I saw that, but in southern California the pretentious five-digit address is pretty much standard fare in any home built after 1985. Without a street name, that stucco box could be anywhere. (Not that I want to underestimate the mad skills of the nutters!)

  • EmmaJK

I love everything… everything! about golfdave. His dorky clothes, his competitiveness, and his potty mouth. He fits in so well with nearly anyone, it seems. He has such a goofy, wonderful personality.

I wonder if, in his wildest dreams, he ever considered that he would be playing golf someday with his own personal idol (I had no idea Raine Maida was so cute, and seemingly very nice) and the producer of “American Idiot”. Hanging out with them as an equal. He’s still just so down-to-earth and normal.

  • FolkFan

    Heh. Heh. Also, heh.

Ahem. Yeah, that was funny. Always nice to get a good laugh in the middle of a Tuesday, you know? Thanks for posting, MJ.

  • sma11ie

Speaking of Cook bandmates who look like iconic ‘celebrities,’ what happened to Joey Clement and where the hell is he?

Just saw this. I’ve been trying to piece together what happened, and it seems like there is very little solid info right now. Phil Marshall’s congatulations to Monty tells us that he’ll be with DC for 6 weeks, and Joey’s facebook status cryptically says something about pages turning. I think those are the only facts, and everything else is just speculation. I hope this is just temporary, because Joey is hilarious (see latest PorkBeans) and I love his funny stage moves and his rapport with DC’s banter on stage. But I’m thinking anything’s possible after the 6 weeks, and there’s likely good reason for the radio silence from DC.

  • Keel

There should be a whole series of videos in which Cook looks adorable and hangs out with music industry buddies while being bad at sports.

    Lacrosse with Meatloaf!

    Cricket with Simon Fuller!

Synchronized swimming with his band versus DAUGHTRY!

Agreed. But why don’t we go with water polo with his band versus DAUGHTRY instead. I don’t think I care to see each of David and band and DAUGHTRY with those little nose pinchers on.

It cracks me up that he mentions liking golf because it’s a sport that gets him moving but one where he’s not necessarily sucking in air. And that he gets to drink beer while playing. It’s almost like he’s got an exercise regimen aimed at keeping the tummeh instead of getting rid of it.

  • Bethlyn

Not to worry guys. That is my address. I was entertaining David.

    OMG! I wish! Flove him!

  • katymac

If it’s possible to have charisma to burn – Dave’s got it!

  • happycamper

Well, Bethlyn, do you have something to share with the rest of the class?

  • kathrynTX

Ah you guys always make me laugh! I watched this video mumbly times today already, soon as I saw it this morning. Yes, rockers like golf because it’s kind of a sport you can play without sucking wind and if you need a beer while playing, you can have one. Or six. Gosh, David is a genius. Heh.

I noticed that house number being so obvious too. Too funny. The thought crossed my mind…Oh no, SOMEone is going to try to find his house, if it is indeed HIS home in LA, and stalk him…if it hasn’t happened already. I hope not though.

He is just so enjoyable to watch on camera, hamming it up. I like all the bleeping out they had to do for his “commentary” on his own shots. What a ding dong. And I didn’t know Raine Mada was so cute either! I wonder if OLP sales will go up now haha.

How about Cook & EEB (whomsoever the members may be!) vs Daughtry in baseball? MUWHAHAHAHAHHA we have a pitcher on our team already!

  • Laurie

How sweet that David got into golf because his brother Adam was so into it! He seems like such a fun down to earth guy. The day of golf being for stuffy executive types only is long gone. Like he said, what other sport let’s you have a beer while playing?! LOL!

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

    I LOVE David =)

  • http://www.last.fm/user/RemusL/ RemusL

While a lot is being made of DC being much worse at golf than Cavallo and Maida, if he’s tied with Cavallo and only 3 strokes behind Maida, that suggests they’re all pretty bad at the game. :)

  • Ashley19

I finally got to see the video. I LOVE it! Golfing Dave is freaking adorable!!!

Off to watch again. Thanks MJ.

  • noctem seizure

Also, I just want to reiterate, I HATE the golf outfit. I simply never want to see my favorite rock musicians dress like my dad, period. I liked Raine’s look. He looked good. David looked’ ¦ goofy, heh.

I’d say his getup is more “fratboy golfing” than “dad golfing”– which doesn’t make him look too much cooler, though….

  • skippy

I’d say the label needs to concentrate more on the next single than golfing…just saying.

  • nycgirl

Delurking to say….could the boy be any more adorable…..

  • Matt

I’d say the label needs to concentrate more on the next single than golfing’ ¦just saying.

They probably already know what the next single is (they probably have for weeks now), they’re just waiting a little longer to make an official announcement.

  • 123abc456

I agree I think the next single is in September sometime but that is only my best guess.

  • Trina

RCA isn’t golfing, David is, on a rare day off because he’s been on the road non stop the last 5 months. I’m sure one little day on a golf course won’t have any major impact on label decisions towards a single.

On a different note..dayum am I glad I never got attached to any of the band members because it’s getting ugly out there :blink_tb:

  • weareallinnocent

Cute video. Glad Cook is having a fun day with the boys.

I’d say the label needs to concentrate more on the next single than golfing’ ¦just saying.

The label’s not golfing, Dave, Rob and Raine are. I don’t believe any of those 3 represent the label, do they?

On a different note..dayum am I glad I never got attached to any of the band members because it’s getting ugly out there :blink_tb:

    Huh? What happened?

  • gigglesmo3

DCO just posted an announcement about Joey

  • Trina

Well thank goodness he ended all the guessing..but yup some are taking it pretty hard. I liked Joey a lot and I’ll miss his high energy at the shows, but eh, it’s DC who gets my money and he’s the one I support.

eta: Steve Case tweeted he had dinner with him in DC today
    http://twitter.com/SteveCase
He seems to be very involved with all things brain cancer.

  • Matt

That really sucks about Joey. He’s a very talented bass player and seemed to click really well with Dave. I wish him the best.

I know it’s really none of my business, but I’m really really curious as to what happened. I hope everything went down on good terms.

  • gigglesmo3

    adding to what Trina posted:

@chrisgrundner: Had the pleasure of meeting Idol winner, David Cook, at the State Fair http://www.khgfoundation.org/davidcook

  • hypertwink

About Joey, can’t say that I’m surprised. As much as I adore Joey, he was the odd man out of the whole group. Someone said that he seemed to be the adult in a band of juveniles, and I kinda agree. Sad.

  • noctem seizure

Someone said that he seemed to be the adult in a band of juveniles, and I kinda agree.

    ??

  • anemicandholding

    >Someone said that he seemed to be the adult in a band of juveniles, and I kinda agree. >Sad.

How is Joey’s behavior more superior to the band of juveniles he was recently in? What’s so juvenile about Cook’s band anyway?

  • Michelle

I *love* DC. Love love love :) Thanks for posting this MJ!

  • Fergie

Someone said he seemed to be the adult in a band of juveniles

    WOW,

That’s some kind of rumor to drop. David has been in the public eye for the last year and a half. I think he has always conducted himself with class, grace and maturity beyond his years even when some of his fans have not. David is basically a small company and he seems to take the business of music seriously. Sure he can be a goof or a goober as he likes to call himself, but I think that makes him a regular human being.

  • competitivebynature

Someone said that he seemed to be the adult in a band of juveniles, and I kinda agree.

How? Joey acted more immature than all of them!

  • happycamper

As far as Joey being the adult in a band of juveniles, this person has clearly never seen any of the Pork Beans episodes. Joey is easily as big of a goof as the others. Maybe a bigger goof.

I have no idea what happened and have no intention of speculating. I just wish them all well.

  • wellhesback

Me too, Michelle. I love love love DC. Cool to see him continually involved with cancer charity work, but also glad to see him out having fun with buds. Hilarity does indeed ensue.

While I’m sad to see Joey, a very talented bass player, leave Cookie’s band (& I wish Joey the best) there are still 3 very, very talented guys accompanying DC, and the temp bassist appears to be an experienced old friend as well.

Still, until this blows over I’ll stay away from the DC blogs and boards for awhile. Seems anything can set off angst and mean-spirits. So I’ll count on MJ’s for my David Cook news, since I’m hooked on Cook.

  • waffle

Aside from being a big goof on stage, let’s not forget Joey colored his hair purple. Shows maturity? :) I’ll miss him, though.

The golfing video was so much fun to watch! I wonder how long it took to film? Thanks for posting. I love David Cook threads. :)

  • HappyDaisy

ETA: post moved to Joey thread.

  • sma11ie

As much as I adore Joey, he was the odd man out of the whole group. Someone said that he seemed to be the adult in a band of juveniles, and I kinda agree.

Really? I never felt Joey was the odd man out to me. I always saw evidence of DC hanging out with Joey during their downtime, be it playing baseball, goofing off, etc., and DC seemed to always get a huge kick out of Joey’s hilarity on stage. He was the star of the last PorkBeans, which seemed to show Joey’s part of their group dynamic. Joey seemed to enjoy playing up the “dumb blonde” persona almost, or at least that of the chatty goof in the group. I dunno, he was jumpy Jazzercise Joey on stage, with the purple people eater hair, the headbands, purple pants… not exactly the adult in a band of juveniles, IMO.

ETA: rest of my post moved to new Joey thread

  • hypertwink

Being a goof doesn’t mean that you’re not mature. And when I say juvenile, it’s in the frakking context of Joey being more “adult.” Let me say it again, you can be a goofball on stage/in camera and still be mature in RL.

  • sidney

    deleted

  • sma11ie

hypertwink, what do you mean by more “adult”?

  • happycamper

Well, hypertwink, as to that, I don’t have enough information to form an accurate opinion. But I do see the distinction that you made.

  • cookcricket

    That was fun!!! :)

  • anna in vegas

The guy in the booth announced “David Cook foursome”…….who was the 4th or a no-show?

Raine Maida: ‘Dave is a great singer. As for his golf game, well, he’s a great singer.’

    :thumbup_tb:

I wonder who lives at 12924?

NO stalking!!! You can lurk tho, haha

  • colette

    AGA:

thank you for the new word of the day! “Adorkable.” Sheer genius!

  • daenarys

Anyone who says Joey is more “adult” than the other band members should take a look at all of the concert vids. On “duty” all of them are pros and workhorses: Neal the overall director and lead guitar, Andy multitasking on vox, rythm & keyboards, and Kyle occasionally leading off and manic on his drumkit besides backing vox. Joey only covered the bass, but he did additional duty by frequently being David’s “hype” man. In fact, he was still hyping David (and doing his bunny hops LOL) right up to his last EEB appearance at Monticello a couple of nights ago. Off duty, of the 4 of them, Andy and Joey appeared to be the most playful and goofy. Neal the more serious and if anyone has to be, he’s the one I’d call “adult”. Kyle being the only one who is a husband and father, tends to disappear quickly post concert, but when he’s around he’s as sweet and kind as the rest.

Besides lead vox and rythm guitar, David handles practically everything else on this tour with his tour manager: in front and behind the scenes. He even helps the crew with the gear etc. It’s 91 concerts and counting since Feb 13 in front of crowds as small as 500 (in the early colleges part of the tour) to as big as 15,000 (sunfest in Florida) and 13,000 (West Bend, Washington) just last week. There’ve been a few times when he (and some of the band) have been sick, but they’ve never missed a date save for 2 cancelled nights back in April when he took time off to say goodbye to Adam which have since been rescheduled as he promised.

And yesterday peeps were whining that “David should keep us informed” and “fans have a right to know”. Well, as expected, he’s done it.

Since we’re getting Live!Dave&Band practically every night / every other night, I’ve seen nothing that indicates a bad parting of ways. They’ve ALL handled it like adults.

    ____________________

    On to more important things:

“He’s a great singer. On his golf game….he’s a great singer” (LOL, I love Raine)

I hope the squirrels scuttling out of his warpath survived. Hee.

  • FridayB

Well said daenarys, well said. ITA.

I’ll miss Joey’s presence on stage, but I’m sure everything worked out as it should.

Plus, love golfer dave. For some reason, I really enjoy hearing him cuss (or near cuss and be bleeped as the case may be). It’s probably because I cuss like a sailor.

  • sunchick

I’m kinda geeking out at that vid. Raine has always been super hawt (and talented.) And Rob produced like three of my favorite albums ever. And then there’s David. And they’re golfing. Yeah. How many bromances can a dude have?
