David did great on both these, especially Pat a Pan on Larry King. Love the runs at the end.

  • houstonrufus23

OH, yeah, nice spell checker, Larry. :/

  • Suzanne

I actually watched the show to see pat a pan. I think it should have been the single from this album–but I’m no music industry professional.

David sounded great; and looked fab too.

Did you see katherine mcphee’s song? I didn’t love it. I don’t understand melisma. It just kills holiday songs to me.

  • ggdoorsfan

can i say just wow on the pat-a-pan… david interjected some soulful licks in this song, and the ending was just the b o m b… had me up dancing in the living room – who would have thought a christmas song could be so jazzy and funky, lolol…

the fox and friends performance was great as well… he looked and sounded exactly like what he is – a young, handsome pop star , from top to bottom – the vocals were icing on the cake… two great performances of two great songs… a very good day for him… and yes houstonrufus – king and company need a new spellchecker, hahah…

  • pam05

Love his performance on LKL & Fox and Friends, loved the runs and the soulful humming at the end!!! Gah!!! What pipes!!!

Not only did they mispell David’s last name, Larry introduce’s David by saying he sings it in English, some of it was in French lol *_* so funny…

    That totally cracked me up!

  • heidijoy

Enjoyed both performances. Really liked the accapella part toward the endof Pat- a-Pan There is also a film of him and some of the others talking about their favorite Christmas memories. Its on Larrry King web site.
Larry saying take it away Archie was great. He got to know Archie when the Season 7 Idols visited the program. His wife also has worked with Archie when he sang Prayer of the ‘Children@ an event in Washington D.C. last year.

  • goboywonder

A BIG YAY!!! for this wonderful week of David on the tv. I’m lovin’ it.

I think it should have been the single from this album’“but I’m no music industry professional

I was surprised it wasn’t one of the songs Jive suggested radio stations play. I wondered if they thought perhaps the French at the begining would throw listeners off. IDK, but it’s really a fun song.

Here’s the link to the full CNN interview segment. David appears 3 times. They only aired the first segment on all of the guests.

LOL, that’s too funny… fortunately it’s in English… ‘cept he immediately starts singing in French :)

  • lovemymatthew

That was a fantastic performance Archie. Love PAP song. Glad you selected this song for this performance. Archie looked very handsome as always to me. Anyway, beautiful performance. So proud of you.

I thought that was hilarious too!!!

I absolutely LOVE this song (Pat-a-pan)!!! There is no way not to dance when you hear it!

  • kimk

Wow! What a day in Archuville!
I LOVED Pat a Pan and David did a great job on Larry King! LOVED the end as well!!
lol… watching it played back I just saw what was so funny
also did notice a LOT of David on the show as well!
His Holiday memories interview was also fantastic! He seems such bright and happy individual…always!

Oh and David on FOX & Friends… just wow what a voice and boy he sure is looking mighty fine and not 12 anymore… just saying

hmm..I loved his performance on FOX and felt it may be one of his best for TV besides CELD?!!

  • Suzanne

What a stupid thing to say. There are plenty of holiday songs that AREN’T in English–Adeste Fidelis, Ave Maria, Feliz Navidad–and English speakers enjoy them fine. And of course, the introduction by LK was done after the editing, so his people just royally screwed up. The name spelling and the “fortunately it’s in English” immediately followed by French.

  • Stan

Well, I think having David sing Pat a Pan was a great choice for Larry King tonite. That song suits David well. It’s the most original song on the track.
    And he sounds great!

  • goboywonder

What a stupid thing to say.

    Wow, Merry Christmas!

  • Suzanne

Well, I think having David sing Pat a Pan was a great choice for Larry King tonite.

I agree. It was. That song and performance particularly mixed well with the other songs that were performed on the show. And it’s wonderful to see that song showcased on tv so more people can hear it.

    Wow, Merry Christmas!

We aren’t allowed to criticize Larry King or whoever writes his copy for him?

  • SBC

    Beautifully done, David.

One thing though, can you pls open your eyes more, David? I like to see your beautiful eyes on my TV.

Love your performance of “Love Me Tender”. Yup I like the way you look me in the eyes in that performance.

    Pat-a-pan is not a love song but….still

Pat-a-pan is not a love song but’ ¦.still

LOL..I know what you mean. “Love Me Tender” was one of my favs too. David has beautiful eyes but I think he just pours so much emotion into each song he sings that he closes his eyes to really concentrate and get into that moment. Oh heck, if he continues to sing like that, I couldn’t careless if he opens his eyes or not. Ok maybe occasionally some eye contact with the camera would be nice. Great job on both songs. His ‘Angels We Have Heard On High’ was much better this time around with the breathing and all.

  • khomphuong

He did great as always . Last xmas song for this year from Archie. Can’t wait for his next album.

  • Suzanne

One thing though, can you pls open your eyes more, David? I like to see your beautiful eyes on my TV.

I’m beginning to find his eyelids to be very handsome.

haha! I see the correction on the replay now. I wonder how many peeps contacted CNN? hee!

“Mayday! Mayday! Man your battle stations! I Repeat! Man your battle stations! Take no prisoners! We have a spelling error! I Repeat! We have a spelling error! This is not rocket science, people! There is only ONE T in Archuleta! Charge!”

Wonderful job David. I love that song! Soulful licks at the end, nice touch…..eyes open or closed David is an incredible singer. NGL, LOL!

  • sylvanaire

I have Archie’s Christmas album, it’s very good. Pat-a-pan is one of my all time favorite Christmas Carols. I think Archie has sped the song up a little too much for my taste, and my ears are always lagging behind, lol. But other than that he does a lovely job with it. Sounds like the French portions of the song are pronounced very well, too. Best wishes to him with his career. I’m interested to see/hear what he’ll come up with for album #2. Now that he has a little more experience under his belt, which way will the music go?

Oh, and Merry merry and happy whatever you celebrate to all here at mj’s!

I love the video of Archie talking about Xmas, he really love the holiday… and I thing Sting is really funny…

  • carolinacharms

RE: Larry King performance: This song merits about an 8 on a 10 scale for difficulty. Live. Kinda ridiculous with all its range and rapidity. Something akin to Destiny’s Child and their million words a minute stuff. Anyway….he sounded good for the most part. Still not loving this or the Melodies Of Christmas he performed earlier in the week. Both are uptempo and difficult to sing. Not to mention they’re not American traditional. And also not to mention that he wasn’t in such excellent voice on either. I suppose I would’ve rather heard Ave Maria, Angels We Have Heard On High, or even Riu Riu Chiu. And a rested Archie.

  • KathyH

I sat with my husband to watch this, and for some reason that makes me nervous. (Probably because my husband has been ever patient with me since season 7 when I became “Invested” in David and his career.) I love the live concert performance of Pat-a-Pan when David and the band end with the low repeat of “Tu-re-lu-re-lu-re-le can you hear the pat-a-pan” so the ending threw me off. My husband, however, loved the performance. On repeat, I love the changed ending, too.

Laughed at LKL’s intro. straight into David’s singing in French.

And Suzanne, your “handsome eyelids” gave me quite the chuckle, too.

  • frogcooke

    Awwww I loved this!!!

I think on twitter as soon as it aird there was a collective ‘name FAIL’ haha
And the intro is hilarious.. hahaha ‘Fortunately it’s in english’ *starts singing in french*

  • ozarka

I thought it was really cute when Larry said, “Archie, take it away.” No other American Idol alum is as affectionately known by a nickname as much as David is. Larry’s use of that nickname is a reflection of how widely known he is by that term. “Archie” has become a household name as much as “David Archuleta” has. What’s interesting to note is that David probably never heard anyone refer to him as Archie until he auditioned for American Idol. The nickname was thrust upon him only as a necessity to distinguish him from the other Davids that were on the show during his season.

  • jpfan

    Larry King is hilarious.

  • Reflections On Life

Never heard of Pat-a-pan before, but absolutely loved the song and totally respect his ability to sing it, seems quite difficult.

LOL at eyes & eyelids. I’m new to this “controversy”, so I’ll just chime in with this – in many non-english-speaking cultures (south america, africa, south asia), singing wth eyes closed is a sign of respect to the song, singing both the melody and the lyric with soul, passion, and intent. In fact, eyes open is seen as somewhat gimmicky, like “i can’t really sing, or i don’t understand these lyrics, so lemme flirt with the audience to engage them instead”.

of course, archie can really sing, so perform however works best for you, buddy!

  • http://www.last.fm/user/RemusL/ RemusL

The nickname was thrust upon him only as a necessity to distinguish him from the other Davids that were on the show during his season.

ozarka, the nickname may have been thrust on him but he has decided to adopt it for his own use, considering that his Twitter name is “DavidArchie”. :)

  • KathyH

Interesting info., “Reflections” — I know some Asian cultures once viewed looking people in the eye as almost too bold, but I didn’t know this about paying respect to the song. Thanks!

  • KathyH

Remusl — yes he does use DavidArchie but I think I’ve heard him say that many versions of DavidArchuleta were already taken. I do think he’s embraced the nickname.

  • ozarka

I agree. I think David has embraced his nickname. His twitter name “DavidArchie” is very cute and, what’s more important, it’s very memorable.

haha!! Someone just tweeted that they corrected the spelling of David’s name for the Pacific airing. ha!!!

Here is a youtube of LKL with the corrected spelling. How nice of CNN to go through the trouble of fixing it…

  • sanduskyday

carolinacharms, you made me chuckle today. Your post is quite whitty. Saying David performed difficult songs that were not his best then suggesting he perform Ave Maria instead, which is much more challenging. I am sure you had your tongue planted firmly in your cheek. Then saying that Pat a Pan is not American traditional but suggesting he sing Riu Riu Chiu instead, which is entirely in Spanish, LOL.

David did a lovely job considering these were all taped while he was wrapping up his Christmas tour and by his own admission, his voice was tired.

Happy Holidays to all those that celebrate at this time of year.

  • susie

I sat with my husband to watch this, and for some reason that makes me nervous. (Probably because my husband has been ever patient with me since season 7 when I became ‘Invested’ in David and his career.)

ROTFL, KathyH! I’m with you there. I made my hubby sit through David’s adorable HYAMLC duet with Ray TWICE. I just can’t seem to help myself. Once was probably enough, but…I also wanted my daughter to see it…at her house last night…on her wall tv. *insert sheepish grin here*

  • Pam

Both performances beautifully done but the 2nd was my fave. Great job David. :)

    Thanks mj :)

Dear David Archuleta: As long as you sing like that, you can close your eyes, you can use sunglasses, you can even turn your back to the audience, if you want to, I don ´t mind!

Because for me it ´s all about the voice and you have the most gorgeous voice ever heard on Idol stage!

It doesn ´t hurt your gorgeous boyish looks, your à ¼ber talent, your artistry, your amazing, impeccable vocal technique and ability to stay always on pitch, etc etc, your humbleness, your compassion, your high morals… (and goes on…)

Anyway, as long as you sing like you do, you have me as a fan forever and a day!!!

‘Both are uptempo and difficult to sing. Not to mention they’re not American traditional‘ .

‘I suppose I would’ve rather heard Ave Maria, Angels We Have Heard On High, or even Riu Riu Chiu. And a rested Archie’ .

Note to self: Send Archie a message to let him know he must have to stop singing ‘Ave Maria’. Instead, he must pray (daily) his English version, ‘Hail Mary’ (maybe the Virgin, for some reason, can ´t understand his Latin singing version of the prayer), asking for the intercession of Virgin Mother Mary to help him to achieve miraculous things such as:

    Be rested even if he is almost finishing a month touring, travelling around the country and singing almost every night, usually 4 days in a row (with a set list that includes some very difficult songs to sing) and then only 1 day ‘off’, and giving so many phone interviews, sometimes two in the same day, and taping many TV appearances;

    Convert ‘Ave Maria‘ (the most difficult song of the album; David took 5 hours to record it, given the difficulty of both melody and lyrics) into an easy, ‘piece of cake’ song to sing;

    Change ‘Riu Riu Chiu‘, a traditional Spanish Christmas carol in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary, into an American Traditional song;

Give him the patience of a Saint to deal with all the demands of the American people, because sometimes they ask for non-existent or impossible things to achieve, dear Virgin Mary, so help the boy, please!

American here and thrilled with all of David’s songs in every language! I know that he gives 150% to every song he sings and way more than any of us deserve, and I am so grateful for all that he gives!

  • carolinacharms

Kat’s hair was really weird looking. Like a powdered wig. And I didn’t care for her melismatic treatment of the song.

  • heidijoy

They are doing re-runs of this program today on CNN Archuleta with one t for the win. Still enjoyable. Merry Christmas!

  • Stan

I love that CNN has corrected David’s last name Archuleta in proceding shows.
And..love David for the fact that he gives so much to each and every performance!! This one was superb!
