Poor David Archuleta needs an exterminator stat. His first mouse encounter left him a little startled, but intact. The next one done ate his memories. From his most recent My Space blog:

Oh and another thing. I have this drawer in my room where I keep a lot of memories in, like tickets, cd’s, papers, letters, etc.. and I open it up to put some more stuff… When I open it, all my papers are chewed up and there’s a nest mice made from all of my memories! I tried saving as much as I could, but there was a lot of damage done and I had to throw a lot away :( . But it’s ok because it was an excuse to clean up haha. So now I’ve been decluttering my room, which is taking forever because more things keep coming into it. I still haven’t gotten a lot of the boxes that I sent home during the Jingle shows, and most of the stuff from tour is in boxes elsewhere. So my room is pretty much uninhabitable. But I’ll hurry and clear things up before we leave. But anyway.. I apologize for my disorganized rambling that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Aww. Sads. Not to mention: Eww.

The rest of the blog post is all about the awesome time David had Jingleballjamiming all over the country. He’s done now, and all set to spend the holidays with the fam.

David’s debut album David Archuleta has sold 430K so far, and should go gold in the next couple of weeks. Hey, maybe in time for his 18th birthday on December 28. It totally could happen–this weekend is the biggest retail weekend of the holiday season.

In January, David will be appearing at the RIAA inaugural party, one of many taking place in Washington DC to celebrate the inauguration of President-elect Obama. (Fantasia and Chris Daughtry are invited to Inaugural balls too.)

In the meantime, on the 25th, you can see David on the Walt Disney World Christmas Day Parade on ABC. He’ll be featured in a segment previewing the new American Idol attraction at Walt Disney World, Orlando FL, opening on February 12.

first lol… his rambling made so much fun to read the blog…. and awwwww it has to be really sad to lost all his memories…

  • abbysee

Aww, poor baby. Lost his memories to a damn mouse! Sadz indeed. I know how it feels. Not losing it to a mouse though, but during a move…..oh well. He’ll put a happy face on any way, and create more memories. I know his room must be overstocked with all of the stuff he sent home. He prolly needs a bigger room, one that comes with no mice!

  • frogcooke

he has meese in the house

  • abbysee

Maybe he needs to come to Mj’s. There are lots of banner adds addressing his problem! LOL! DCon FTW! Bwahhhh

  • hermy

LOL. His blogs make me smile

  • Jabkmc

You know if its a mouse in Archie’s drawer it’s gotta look like Jerry from Tom and Jerry…Cute! lolz!

  • Lisa

Aww poor Archie. That’s kinda sad.

Errrm is this his parent’s house? Have they ever heard of mouse traps? Just sayin….

  • Trina

Aww he’s such a sweetheart. His ‘disorganized ramblings’ are adorable. I think he’ll make gold in time for his b’day too! Really bizarre. The winner and runner up, back to back, both going gold on the week of their birthday? That’s some eerie karma!

  • serenade

I love that he used the word “uninhabitable.” Hee.

This probably solves the mystery of where David was when he heard the mouse the last time. His room must be seriously neglected these past few months for a mouse to be able to set up house right there in his memory drawer. That’s bizarre and hilarious. It was probably being used as a temporary storage area to put all the boxes he’s been sending home.

Glad he’s going away someplace warmer with the family. David’s been living his dream this year but he’s also been working hard for it so he deserves this holiday break.

ITA that his blogs are always fun to read. You never know what he’s going to surprise us with next. LOL

  • LK08

My son and his wife have a blog and my husband was just saying how this generation of young people just tell everyone everything. My son’s wife said on her blog that we ran out of gasoline in a canyon on the way home from Disneyland. Of course my husband would prefer they not announce that to the world.

I wonder if David’s family hates him announcing that they have mice in the house. He lives in a nice house, and mice can get in anywhere, but they might not want him telling the whole world everything. Funny! Of course when David tells these things, it is not in a complaining sort of way.

  • leome

ewwww!! I’d throw the drawer away. lol I can’t stand mice.
I love the rambling. And it’s good he’s having time to spend with the family.

IKR? Some great coincidences with these two. They’re The Davids. Nothin gonna stop them.

Probably, but this speak a lot of the way they treat David when he is at home, like any other teenager… if it were my mon, she probably would have keep my brother ´s room so clean, actually she did while he was away studing… anyway this tell us that they treat David as the rest of their child and he is the one that has to clean his room, not his mon… I can imagine all the boxes in the room…

    ewwww!! Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d throw the drawer away. lol I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t stand mice.

lol…I get what you mean, I have no problem with insects, but if it were a mouse I would have gone nuts…they freak me out…

  • rockfan

It was probably being used as a temporary storage area to put all the boxes heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been sending home.

Jeff told some of us at the Ford Day event in Detroit that his room is filled with many many boxes of gifts from the tour. I guess it is possible that the mouse came in with one of the boxes.

The Archuleta’s do live in a very nice house…about 8,000 sq ft, I do believe. But with 5 kids…they need a lot of room.

BTW, here is the video from backstage at the MSG in NYC.

  • serenade

I think it’s just one of the things that’s so refreshing about David is that he’s startlingly unpretentious about himself. I mean, there’s a lot of things he’ll admit to in a his blog or in interviews that I would be kind of mortified to admit but he’s just open about his quirks, his inexperience, his habits, his embarrassing moments, etc. If he feels intimidated, or awed, or inferior to another performer, he’ll just say it. That in itself takes guts and that’s one of the reasons I like him as person as well as an artist. He also manages to make his candor really funny most of the time.

  • JudyOhio

    8,000 sq ft? That’s a lotta house!

  • Jabkmc

    8,000 sq ft? Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a lotta house!

I kinda doubt it. It’s a middle class neighborhood on a cul-de-sac. My brother has a 4,000 sqft house on a cul-de-sac and it barely fits the lot. And it’s so cavernous that they seriously thought of selling it because it was soooo big for a family of 5. A family of 7 would be just about right.

You may be right about the size of their house. I got that information from one of David’s fansites…so I take everything with a grain of salt unless it comes from team David.

  • Tatiana

I have also heard that their house is pretty ginormous…

  • ozarka

This probably solves the mystery of where David was when he heard the mouse the last time.

Actually, I think that he was blogging from a hotel room the last time he talked about a mouse. Nevertheless, he’s probably got boxes and boxes full of Nutter Butters and other assorted treats in his room. It’s no wonder he’s got mice.

KISS 108 finally has David’s backstage interview from the Boston Jingle Ball posted on their website.

And here’s an interview with Fox All Access.

  • KathyH

Love this blog by David, and I like that the family respected the privacy of his keepsake drawer while he was away. (I also find David’s lack of pretention refreshing. He is who he is, his fans feel as though we know him, and we’re allowed a level of interaction that is quite fun.)

I think the mouse problem speaks more to the extremities of the weather than anything else. We live in a nice but rural neighborhood, and a vole had a litter in our attic. One of my teen daughters is a serious animal lover, so whenever our cat makes a “discovery”, we catch the critter live and carry it outside to a wooded area.

  • Tess

8,000 sq. ft. is a nice, normal size 2 story home in the suburbs of Salt Lake. The 8,000 sq. ft. will reflect the basement, which is pretty much all below grade. David lives in an area that still has some rural aspects, undeveloped land with streams and stands of trees. As winter approaches the field mice head indoors to get out of the cold, just like the rest of us. I once had a basement couch taken over by a mommy mouse with her brood. Needless to say I ended up chopping up the couch!

Reading David’s blogs are like catching up with an old friend. Anything that is slightly “out of the norm” heads the list of things you end up talking about. I love his writings and his video blogs because they are so very normal and engaging. He doesn’t bore us with his introspective thoughts that are none of our business, anyway, just gives us a little “slice of life” that helps keep us connected.

Way to go David…you know how to make us all smile a little bit more.

^Thanks for the link. Taiwan Fans called David Archuleta ” Sunshine ” (like we called him “arch angel” )hehehehee.. Don’t know how they’ve come up with that.

  • sabby_rina

Haha Archie’s got a mouse problem. First at NYC and now at home. I can picture him jumping out of fright after seeing one. LOL :laugh_tb:

From different interviews, I’ve gathered that David is an animal lover as well so he might do the same. Who knows. He did say in one of his Q&A blogs that he used to have cats and he loved them but had to give them away because his Dad turned out to be allergic. His cats wouldn’t have let the mouse take residence in his drawer. lol

I’ve had a cat for five years and one of the man reasons is that I hate mice.

  • Autumn

I read this yesterday at Rickey’s and was shocked that his house has NO heat in Utah of all places and then the mouse story! Wow, no offense but they need to take care of business at home for those other kids, I think that is a real shame.

  • serenade

Wow, no offense but they need to take care of business at home for those other kids, I think that is a real shame.

I don’t get it. Heating systems fail on occasion and almost everybody has had to deal with a mouse getting into their house before, especially if there are no cats around. No doubt these little, everyday life problems are already resolved. David just wanted to share something interesting like he always does. It’d be a shame to read something into it that’s simply not true.

  • lefty

Wow, no offense but they need to take care of business at home for those other kids, I think that is a real shame.

I think it’s quite a stretch to assume that, based on what David said in his blog, his siblings are not being cared for. Nothing I’ve seen of those children suggests that they are anything but loved and well cared for.

I know a lot of people (myself included) who have kept clean houses and had to deal with a rodent from time to time. It just happens. And I’m not sure that the “no heat” comment actually meant that they have no heat in the house. Maybe his parents are like my husband and like to keep it turned down low. Or maybe we all tend to like to pick these blogs apart and take everything a little too literally … lol.

    David A’s Blog

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not sure where weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re going to go quite yet, but weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re probably going to go somewhere that isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t snowing haha. I love looking at the snow, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no fun when you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have heat in your house

Why leave home when you can just get it fixed? I understand that mice find warm places in the winter but rodents carry diseases and should be delt with. Everyones health is at risk with a house full of rodents especially a kid with breathing problems. DA’s comments make me think that the upkeep and maintence of the home have been put on the back burner with all the events going on in his life. I just think that is sad when there are 4 other kids that have to be in the house while he is off starting his career.

  • serenade

Why leave home when you can just get it fixed?

Why assume that because the family is going on a family vacation, they’re not having it fixed? He never said that. Many people travel on the Holidays to reunite with other family, and from what David’s said, much of his extended family lives in Florida and Georgia, where it’s warm.

David detailed in his blog how he spent time putting his room back into order. Why assume they haven’t already gotten rid of the mouse or mice?

My sister lives in a fancy duplex in a commercial area in White Plains, has two kids and keeps a clean house. But a few months ago she left her apartment for an entire week because it had to be fumigated by professionals. Things like that happen. To assume that children aren’t being cared for in those situations is a huge stretch.

  • Autumn

Not really sure why I’m being attacked for giving my opinion of Davids words. There is a whole lot of ‘assuming’ going on and not just by me. I am at least responding to what David actually said.

    Here everybody a little info:

We had a nice conversation with Jeff and THEY ARE NOT FREEZING, David fanbase, so everyone can relax.

So there, they got heat, maybe David was talking about something else, or thinking in people that don ´t have heat and the meaning got lost in translation…and mice can be anywhere even in the cleaner places… last time in my friends house one decided to go out during my friends bday party and she is so clean you wouldn ´t believe she is our Bree… The scene was even funnier  ´cause she has a chihuahua…we didn ´t know what we were chasing for the dog or the mouse… that was a party to remember… :D

BTW Davidarchuleta.com has two new videos… happy holidays from David and behind the scenes ALTNOY…

  • Autumn

I find it hilarious that people assume that I thought their place was not clean because of the mouse. I never said that or hinted at that. But there is NEVER just 1 mouse, where you find one there are others! I am glad the heat situation is resolved, Utah is not a place to let something like that go with the extreme cold they have.

  • lefty

I find it hilarious that people assume that I thought their place was not clean because of the mouse.

I suppose I was one of those people. When I read this:

rodents carry diseases and should be delt with. Everyones health is at risk with a house full of rodents

    and this

DAà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s comments make me think that the upkeep and maintence of the home have been put on the back burner … [it is] sad when there are 4 other kids that have to be in the house

… I assumed that you thought the house was contaminated and unkempt.

I made assumptions about what you were saying and evidently I was wrong. For that I am sorry. It goes to show that we all make assumptions based on what people write. When David said “no heat” we all drew our own conclusions – some more extreme than others – and it’s likely we were all wrong. :rolleyes_wp:

And now I’m going to turn up my own heat and wrap some gifts. Happy holidays! :biggrin_wp:

  • soundscene

DA’s house is fine; there’s apparently a long story dealing with the heat/air situation. I don’t know the whole story, but it’s not an unkempt thing or a neglect thing or anything. I hear their house is actually quite beautiful.

And there are cockroaches in my house. We can’t help it–just the area we live (Hawaii; former sub-tropical rain forest). No amount of bug spray will kill them all during certain times of the year. And centipedes (one of which crawled into my bed at night and bit me on the foot–dang, that hurt). In Texas you get those black crickets that infest everywhere during the hot months. I hated them when I went to school there.

I know you weren’t insinuating uncleanliness Autumn, but sometimes words don’t translate well in written form. Leads to misunderstandings. As far as I’m aware, though, David doesn’t have a breathing problem. He has audible breath because of his vocal chord problem, but he breathes just fine and actually has really great breath control when singing.

  • leome

I hope people don’t start analizing every word he writes, could come to a point where he’d feel unconfortable sharing this stuff.
Some things he write may not be meaningful, but it’s fun. It’d be a shame if he had to start thinking twice about what he writes.

  • http://www.facebook.com/home.php#/profile.php?id=587900002&ref=name cruzceleste

^Man that would be a shame… after all his blogs are funny because his is honest…

  • hermy

Yeah, I love his blogs the way they are. They always make me crack up and smile because I can totally picture some of the things he writes coming out of his mouth. The random things he says are always the best lol.
Besides, from personal experience, there is no better way to spend quality time with your family than when there is no heat since the place where the space heater is will be the best place to be lol.

One of my favorite memories is of being snowed in with the family – our pilot light kept blowing out and we spent several days in our living room with a space heater, electric blankets, games and puzzles. Despite the fact that I was a teenager at the time, I was actually kind of sad when it was over.

  • luckeee55

What a wonderful blog. The young man writes as he speaks, with complete honesty and lack of pretension. So good to hear his family home’s heat is fixed. Furnaces so often break down during the coldest weather. As for his problem with a mouse, as a person growing up in the cold north of the country, we always had a mouse or two (or three) every winter. They sneak in under doors or in foundation cracks. It is very common in colder climes. Just check the hardware stores, every one of them sells mousetraps. And a bureau not disturbed for several weeks or longer would be ideal for nesting. Poor David lost his memory drawer, but he seems like such a positive person, he is able to turn even this into a positive opportunity to clean his drawer out. His family has to be wonderful to have turned out such a superior young man.
