Congratulations to David. Why does he dress like a grandpa so often? And why couldn’t he have a real smile like this one on his Christmas album?

I’m glad he sang something in Spanish, rather than something from his album. It shows the world how versatile he can be. And we fans are always eager to hear something new from him. According to rumors, he sang “Contigo en la Distancia.” That’s the same song he sang when he flew down to Honduras at the age of 12 but lost his voice right in the middle of singing it, so his mom had to run up on stage to finish it for him.

I’m pretty sure it will be. There has been a ton of promos for this ALMA award show and just about all of them have David’s name or photo prominently featured. They apparently think that he’s going to be a big draw for TV viewers. Plus, the “Year In Music’s Rising Male Star” is one of their biggest honorees, so I can’t see how they won’t televise it.

Hope I’m not spoiling the surprise for anyone, but David Archuleta earned best new artist honors at the ALMA awards Thursday night in Los Angeles.

David also performed on the show, which was taped last night but will be aired tonight on ABC at 8 p.m. Two photos of his performance appear below.

He has amazing talent I am thrilled that he was recognized by the Latino community and honored with the award for Special Achievement, Year in Music – New Artist. Love the way his Spanish accent surfaces in the ET on line interview when he talks about his involvement with his heritage. First time singing Spanish on national Tv. I’m sure his Mom , grandparents and other relatives are very proud. I know his fans are!!!!!

Awww…I was not able to see the pictures from last night but then I open mj’s and here’s a nice bright and shiny picture of David all dressed up! I’m practicaly in tears. I just feel really proud of him and I really wish much success for him. I think he’s soooo talented with tons of potential but really underrated in the music business. Here’s hoping that this is only the first of the many awards that he will receive!

There’s a reason David Archuleta was honored for his acheivements in music at the 2009 ALMA Awards ‘” he’s freakin’ incredible.

The 18-year-old with a voice that could take down artists twice his age performed on the awards show, which celebrates the best in entertainment by Hispanic artists, singing in complete Spanish. His ballad of choice was ‘Contigo en la Distancia,’  a song made famous in recent years by Christina Aguilera.

If Christina has the ultimate female version, it’s safe to say David owns this song for the guys. His voice was flawless, chill-inducing ‘” nothing short of amazing.

Congrats to David! He’s too humble about his Spanish language abilities. It has always been his second language. I expect a CD to pop upon the Latin charts in the future.
