David Archuleta began his summer tour, opening for Demi Lovato Sunday night in Hartford, CT. Here he is, sitting behind the piano, singing an impassioned rendition of OneRepublic’s “Apologize”.

A Fathers Day message of sorts? (rhetorical question, peeps)

It’s good to see Archie back at work after what must have been some very unpleasant days for him and his family.

Video after the JUMP…

Wow, David’s falsetto has certainly gotten stronger since the Idol days. Love the beautiful emotion.

Does anyone know if Jeff will be following him on his tour with Demi?

A Fathers Day message of sorts?

I’m sorry, but it’s too late to apologize. lol

  • lucy

Nice version, David. I hope you’re doing well.

I suppose I’m just an old fogey, but while I’m happy enough with rock bands in arenas with a bunch of girls screaming throughout the song, I just don’t like it for solo singers whose strength is in vocal subtlety, like DA. I’d like to listen to him *sing* without the screaming girls in the audience competing for my attention. Do they even know how good a singer he is or are they just screaming because he’s C-uu-uuu-uu–t-e!!!!!-moan….? Well, I suppose when he gets older, some of this will abate and maybe we can just listen to him. Or not.

And maybe Demi Lovato is a better singer than I’ve heard her be — but how can she not sound truly awful next to David’s beautiful voice?

  • Renina

Well he sang it better than Kris, but it still really did nothing for me.
This girl sings this song amazingly well and shames both of the guys…

Second-billed David Archuleta may have had better name recognition than the evening’s headliner, and he fit comfortably into a program built for ‘tween ears with his incessant sheen and simple, youthful energy. Just more than a year removed from his runner-up finish on ” American Idol,” the 18-year-old’s shiny belting was couched in equally insistent pop contours but showed little range between the driving “Waiting for Yesterday” and the overdone ballad sway of “You Can.”

    Hartford Courant – Thomas Kintner – à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã… ½Jun 22, 2009à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã… ½

Just for the record….the ticket sales were about 2/3 of the available seating

a crowd that filled about two thirds of the arena’s lower level, predominantly “tween girls and their parents.

I know it is what it is….but I just feel really bad, on a personal level, that this is where David is stuck for the summer. I don’t think this will “help” his career (hopefully it won’t hurt). I’ll be a much happier camper when he moves on (even if it means stepping back for a bit) to music that reflects his vocal capabilities and where he isn’t searching for “teen pop validation”.

Even though the prevailing sentiment is that this is what David is choosing to do I really wish that someone would guide him out of this teeny bopper insanity both touring and musically. IMHO I think David would be more successful musical (but probably not financially) if he changed course and went in another direction. Not all teens are cut out to be “teen stars”.

I completely agree that DA’s version above isn’t the best I’ve ever heard, by a long shot. But I can’t help but think that has a lot to do with the circumstances in which he’s singing the song. Singing in a big venue with a deliberately tweenie-heavy, screaming audience pretty much says to you: Just bellow the song, because subtlety will completely be lost here. If you tried for subtle nobody in this audience would hear or understand it anyway.

I know that a lot of David’s fans want him to have the big exposure to a whole generation that Disney arena acts may provide, and I can understand that. But in my opinion none of those acts are about the music, and thus their concerts aren’t about the music. They’re about being cool, grownup, and feelin’ sexy as an 11-year-old girl can, out on the town and screamin’ in the arena. And, in my opinion, that’s just not a good showcase for what David — or any other really gifted vocalist or musician — can do. I’ll be happier when he grows up — maybe he can do some tours where people wait to yell until the song is over!

  • frogcooke

I was kinda surprised he was doing this on the tour… lol Didnt think he would of.. I still love when he does this song and his falsetto does sound stronger, least to me.

Kinda wish he was doing YEDL and Barriers though… lol lol

  • houstonrufus

I’ve always loved David’s versions of this song, this one included. I find it quite haunting.

  • Kitwana

    This is a beautiful performance.

  • rkt

I like Kris’ version better, I actually think Kris’ studio version is better than the original. DA’s version is OK, but I think this song’s fits Kris’ voice the best.

  • KathyH

Love David’s version of Apologize, although it isn’t my favorite of his covers or his own songs. I do like the piano accompaniment, though, and can feel his intensity on the song.

I, too, would dearly love to hear him sing Barriers or Your Eyes Don’t Lie on tour — those two are in my top four favorites of his own songs, and they are the ones that I wish would have been given a chance on radio.

But I don’t want to get that debate started again. :Z

  • LK09

David always sounds good, but I think this was less expressive than I have heard him sing it because he is playing the piano and probably concentrating a lot on that. If he plays it continually, he will become more relaxed and much more comfortable on the piano.

A Fathers Day message of sorts?

    Ouch!

Just for the recordà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.the ticket sales were about 2/3 of the available seating

This is pretty frustrating because for many of these concerts, they barely advertised that David would be there, and for some, they didn’t advertise him being there at all.

I know that a lot of Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fans want him to have the big exposure to a whole generation that Disney arena acts may provide, and I can understand that.

A lot of fans I know aren’t all that thrilled about it, but then they are not teens and tweens, but young adults and up.

I do know that at least in the beginning, David wanted to do younger stuff, and he seems very happy touring with someone closer to his age. He has mentioned at times when he has spent time with teens, such as the icarly kids, how nice it was to be with people closer to his age.

  • babybelle32

I think the teen crowd is the demo that David needs to appeal to right now. Even though there are some adults who like his music, the teens are his core audience. The problem with this tour, which has horrible ticket sales everywhere, here in Atlanta I think the tickets are pretty much going for ten dollars, is that David should have been either the headliner or co-headliner. While Demi has a show on Disney, she isn’t so well known that she can sell out large arenas. The same is true for David, but things wouldn’t be as bad as they are with Demi being the headliner. I don’t think Jive will think that the poor ticket sales are a reflection on David, who pretty much isn’t even mentioned in the promotion for the tour.

  • LK09

While Demi has a show on Disney, she isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t so well known that she can sell out large arenas.

I hear Demi has almost 1 million following her on Twitter. I wonder where they are?

  • tinawina

Even though the prevailing sentiment is that this is what David is choosing to do I really wish that someone would guide him out of this teeny bopper insanity both touring and musically.

I don’t think the tour hurts him. The higher end of the disney demo overlaps with the pop radio audience… it could actually help him in the long run. Though I admit I was a lot more blase about it when he was releasing new stuff in the fall instead of next year. The more distance he gets from Crush the more he might get stuck branded as a tweener act. Still, I think if his new stuff isn’t too tweeny sounding and he does other type of things in the fall for promo, he will be fine. He’s on the best possible label to be doing that kind of thing anyway.

  • lucy

I hear Demi has almost 1 million following her on Twitter. I wonder where they are?

    Busily tweeting into their iphones?

  • leome

Kinda wish he was doing YEDL and Barriers thoughà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ lol lol

    What was the setlist?
I like that he does this one, I like it more than ATM. And if we’re comparing, to me Archie’s version is way better than Kris, for the single fact that Archie sings a lot better. The only thing is that I think Archie still had to work on the playing the piano while singing thing. But that’s a problem I think Kris has too.

Father day’s message? LOL I dunno, has he done this since the AI tour? Did he wish his father a happy father’s day?

I think teens and their parents are also allowed to enjoy music, I don’t know why it’s so bad that they’re Archie’s audience at the moment. He’s getting the experience, he’s having the fun… he has a solid fanbase and he’ll have time to grow in the future. And IMO someone’s guiding him to this, I don’t think it’s him choosing to do it.

  • miss-silverwing

I hear Demi has almost 1 million following her on Twitter. I wonder where they are?

I follow a lot of celebs on Twitter who I wouldn’t necessarily want to see in concert.

  • LK09

Leome, I think Jive is definitely pushing him to get more younger fans, which I think is a good thing– expand your fanbase. He has a wide fanbase. Getting new fans of any kind for a new artist is good.

He has not done apologize since tour.

  • jonoave

And maybe Demi Lovato is a better singer than Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve heard her be

Well, I haven’t heard her sing live. But from some of her studio songs on the radio- she sounds decent. Like Miley Cyrus decent. Xtina/MindyDoo/Allison she ain’t. Or for that matter, not even Jessica Simpson level (say what you will of her, she does have a decent range).

Well he sang it better than Kris, but it still really did nothing for me.
This girl sings this song amazingly well and shames both of the guys

I find it interesting that Apologise is quite a good song that manages to convey a certain angst and hauntingness. And a large part of it lies in its arrangemend and melody. I’ve noticed that almost every version I’ve seen, the singer has stuck very closely to the original melody and pacing (unlike say, Heartless). Which was why I was a big WTF? when Randy and Kara tried to justify their song choice for Kris – big range (I’m a huge Kris fan, but I’ll be first to say that large vocal range isn’t one of his strengths) and open to interpretation (I’ve yet to see an extremely different interpretation ala DC’s Billie Jean).

I don’t blame Kris for doing it straight – doing it on guitar etc would seem kinda like a cop-out. For some reason, the heavy orchestra arrangement is really difficult to tweak (IMHO), unless you strip it down. And Kris has shown that he can tweak string arrangements (ANS). Doing guitar acoustic was sorta of a cop-out IMHO to escape the range-y falsetto chorus, and it would seem a bit .. empty compared to the piano.

Anyway, I think because this song in a way is quite a closed interpretation, I find it hard to really find a version of it that I’m blown away ala Billie Jean/ANS/Imagine. For me, both DA and Kris did a decent job – nothing groundbreaking. There is only so much they can change up the phrasing while staying close to the melody. As for the beatboxing youtube video, it was quite interesting that she used the beatboxing to substitute the little keys “clickety” sound of the chorus.

  • JRB5776

I loved his Apologize from Sunday night. Whew! Verklempt.

I HATE the Demi tour. I’d have preferred he continue what he was doing during the spring. Either continue with the small to medium venue solo tour or co-headline, again in the smaller to medium venues. He likes the intimate venues and it shows in his performances. And spread the performances out over the summer so he has more quality time to work on the second pop album.

    His new intro –

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ha4n9qzOaV4&feature=channel_page

Needs a little work though. haha! Just stand there all kewl David and don’t wave to the crowd from behind the curtain and fidget with your clothes. lol!

Love the two new band members. As much as I loved Eli and Alex (they were good for bringing David out of his shell), Jerry and Dave are better musicians IMO.

  • lefty

I’m just pleased to see that David is performing more and more at the piano. I personally think that’s where he belongs (rather than bopping around on stage). The fact that he’s taking the time to learn more of his songs on the piano suggests, to me, that maybe he’d like to be there as much as possible.

  • frogcooke

Demi has about 450k on twitter following her. Miley has almost 1 mil. Jobro about 360k lol

btw david has about 100k already and he’s been plugging away at a decent speed lately.

Not to mention that it’s harder for a contemporary singer/songwriter-type performer to radically change up something that’s already written and performed in a contemporary singer/songwriter-like style.

It’s one thing to shift something completely out of your wheelhouse — like Heartless — into your wheelhouse. But when a song’s kind of similar to the stuff you sing and hear all the time anyway, extensive re-imagining of it becomes a lot tougher.

In 10 or 20 years, people will probably have an easier time changing it up because the stuff we’ll be used to hearing then will be different overall.

  • hardkandy

is Jeff been present in this tour? Hope not!

Anyway, David is just such a passionate kid… I wish he wasn’t touring with Demi who I’m not really a fan of but since I won’t get to see the shows anyway, it’s whatever LOL.

He is such a talented kid though and I think he will have a lot more chances to show the world just what he can do…he is still very young and his talent will only get stronger.

  • hermy

I really really love that rendition <3

“David always sounds good, but I think this was less expressive than I have heard him sing it”

I just watched the video of the last time he sang it on the AI tour in Tulsa, and while it was more *expressive* it had more of a performance aspect to it whereas this one was just deep. Wonder if he’ll keep this in the setlist since he usually tweaks it throughout the tour.

  • frogcooke

Well both tour stop set lists have been the same so far. Im thinking the ones he’ll do at a few fairs will be different.

  • JRB5776

^^ Probably. On Saturday night, the San Diego set list had more songs in it since it was just him solo. And he did Stand By Me (after brushing off the cobwebs in the Philippines) instead of Apologize.

How many solo shows (sans Demi) will he being doing this summer? Does anyone know?

  • brewster

I am not going to hold anything against David or his management for agreeing to open for some Disney actress with little to no recording or touring success. This deal was made many months ago, and I am sure there were not a lot of other options to choose from at that time. David will do his best, as always, and make the best of this opportunity. In retrospect, he and his management team should have just chosen for David to do his own tour in small settings, just like his successful first tour. Alas, hindsight is always 20/20.

  • frogcooke

um i think so far about 3-4 solo shows I think LOL /badfan

  • jonoave

Damn, edit not working for me. I just realised I rambled too much on DC and Kris. Just to add:

As for DA, I think (and being hopeful) that this is his last tour with the Disney crowd. I do see the reason behind JIVE pushing him in this corner. It does seem slightly hard to market a 17/18 year-old to adult pop/singing mature pop songs etc. But hopefully in 1-2 years time, DA can move on to a more mature audience.

  • Truthiness

Good version of this song by Archie and hope he’s okay as he can be, dealing with all this family stuff. Yeah, appropriate song for what he’s going through.

  • sma11ie

Wow, 11 songs in the setlist for an opener? That’s more like co-headlining. How many songs does Demi do?

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m just pleased to see that David is performing more and more at the piano. I personally think thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s where he belongs (rather than bopping around on stage).

I’d like to see him play more, improve, and develop that aspect of his musicianship as well– particularly if he aspires to be like the Jason Mraz/John Mayer type of musician. That’d be cool.

  • christine

David’s comments on father’s day seemed appropriate and considerate, yet not touching on personal side.

Demi Lovato worked with John Mayer on her upcoming album. Two songs cowritten with him. I think he sees potential in Demi. Justin Timberlake (n sync) and Brittney Spears both Disney stars when they started out. Jordin Sparks touring with Jonas Brothers. David touring with Demi. Sounds like a very smart decision on his part. He will bring the youth along with him and not lose the adult audience while doing this.

Jive seems to be giving David time to gain more adult audience, since most listening radio audience aged 25-45 and female.

This tour with Demi gives him exposure with one of the most popular Disney artists and Demi is seen as one breaking out from Disney also, so that is good.

It would be hard to take on a headliner while working on two albums. This seems like the perfect scenario. He can have less obligation to “sell out” and more time to writing and recording new songs for albums.

David has some solo concerts mixed in there this summer. Plenty of chances for older audience to see and hear him.

The fact that Jive has their two top Idol artists right now touring with Disney (Jordin-JB, David-Demi) means they respect and acknowledge the need for Disney.

  • leome

Thanks JRB5776. That’s a good set and well, maybe it’s the best not to mention the dad.

  • lifeisfun

I saw this video on saturday and right before watching it I was wondering why he would sing it again for this tour. Then i watched it again and I thought the exact same thing. No one can fake emotion like that. That song was directly for Dad.

  • Suzanne

I hear Demi has almost 1 million following her on Twitter. I wonder where they are?

It’s less, like Frogcooke said, but still. LOL.

David always sounds good, but I think this was less expressive than I have heard him sing it

He wasn’t also playing piano last time. His piano sounded good, but eventually the playing will be so easy that he can put more into the vocal performance.

I’m really bummed about that review in the Courant. He really gets regularly slammed for the material he performs (“runs the gamut from A to B” etc.).

And the sales are SO frustrating. Really–the people who know Demi Lovato are 9 years old. Seriously–even tweens (12/13) are beyond Disney Channel. It’s still so maddeningly frustrating that this wasn’t billed as a co-headliner tour, with David and Demi alternating who goes first throughout the summer. Then David’s name would be on Ticketmaster for all these concerts. So stupid.

  • carolinacharms

It is what it is: A nice rendition of a good song.

  • christine

Love David’s voice in “Apologize”. This songs seems to me to need the orchestra accompanying to give it it’s strength. I remember David singing on Idol finale that song with the orchestra and piano and that was magnificent. So, my opinion, David full orchestra/band accompaniment = Magnifico!!!

  • ggdoorsfan

‘A Fathers Day message of sorts?

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s good to see Archie back at work after what must have been some very unpleasant days for him and his family.’

Apologize was sung during Idol tour. And David has been singing most of his most popular songs from Idol – Imagine, Heaven, Crazy, Stand By Me, Beautiful Girls, and yes, Apologize!

There has been a petition started by femalefirst in UK to get Apologize on the tour or as a single release this summer. So, I know that song is one of the more popular and current songs sung by David during Idol.

I didn’t get any “father hidden message” from that. David is above and beyond that. Leave that with the “try to get anything dirt on David Archuleta” crowd.

  • christine

But, I agree with MJ, has to have been some unpleasant days there.

And here everybody’s been slamming Adam for not knowing what his sound is. Guess he isn’t the only one. And, yeah, David’s younger, but he, too, has been a pop singer for a very long time. Probably isn’t as easy as you’d think for people with flexible voices who like a lot of music to figure out exactly what they want to do!

NOt sure why they have to, really, but I guess that’s what the commercial world expects. If they can’t put you in a box, they can’t sell you off the shelf, I suppose.

It sounded as heartfelt as when he did it on S7. I don’t think there’s an extra speshul message to his dad but that’s me. I just have always felt from his time on Idol that he’s a real musician, isn’t a stooge of his dad, and has his head screwed on straight. And I still feel that way.

it conveys to me that he’s at least smart enough to know that he still has some growing and maturing to do as an artist before he fully takes ownership of what is to be his ”definitive” sound, or voice… at 18, regardless of how long he’s been in the music game, there is still a lot of living, and learning and processes he must undergo that can only serve to deepen his musical output… i think he understands that while many may think he has, or should have been, foisted into the pop arena fully formed, he is giving himself the time to discover just where he wants to be artistically… and my hope is that time and the natural maturation process will bring about the growth in his musicality he desires, as well as his fans.

  • JudyOhio

He just sang Barriers and YEDL a few nights ago at Del Mar, and did quite a good job. Not sure why Apologize was brought out for a night. He did okay on it, but I don’t think that was the best quality video I’ve seen him in either. I follow DA pretty closely and watch all his performances pretty much, and I do notice a maturing in presence and sound. I’m not thrilled myself about the Demi concert choice, but as with all things, this too shall pass, and as long as it doesn’t do damage to him (which I don’t think it will), he’ll be fine. The kid has been performing pretty much non-stop since the night of the AI7 finale and still draws a crowd…..and THAT is a GOOD thing. Glad that (in appearances at least) he seems to be handling the family crisis thing pretty well. I do agree that coming to AI7 intially at 16 and going through the show at 17 pretty much lent itself to his being marketed to the teens/tweens first. However, I think he is talented enough (and cute enough, lol) to progress and make transitions as as needed.

So, my opinion, David full orchestra/band accompaniment = Magnifico!!!

That would be my favorite version of him singing the song, but it is really expensive to have a full orchestra. :mad_wp:

    I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get any à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“father hidden messageà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ from that. David is above and beyond that.

    Agree.

And here everybodyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been slamming Adam for not knowing what his sound is. Guess he isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t the only one. And, yeah, Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s younger, but he, too, has been a pop singer for a very long time.

David is only 18 and had very little professional experience before he started touring. Singing a few times on star search doesn’t really qualify and at that time, he was really into soul music. I think he just recently started to get into pop music. Someone please correct me if I’m wrong, like I apparently was on how many twitter followers Demi has (I read it on another site). :dunce_tb:

Glad that (in appearance at least) he seems to be handling the family crisis thing pretty well.

He seems kind of melancholy to me and not as full of joy. I bet this is really, really hard, and I feel really bad for him.

  • taks

I was a little iffy on this through the first verse, but the second verse was really, really good.

Although, I hate watching concert videos because thousands of fans singing off-key never sounds good.

it conveys to me that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s at least smart enough to know that he still has some growing and maturing to do as an artist before he fully takes ownership of what is to be his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ definitiveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ sound, or voiceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ at 18, regardless of how long heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been in the music game, there is still a lot of living, and learning and processes he must undergo that can only serve to deepen his musical outputà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ i think he understands that while many may think he has, or should have been, foisted into the pop arena fully formed, he is giving himself the time to discover just where he wants to be artisticallyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ and my hope is that time and the natural maturation process will bring about the growth in his musicality he desires, as well as his fans.

Okay, I get it. When you said above that this quote showed “what he is aiming for,” I figured you must mean something more concrete than what you’ve just said here. But since you meant — he’s aiming to know more so he can decide exactly what he’s aiming for, then, yeah, I can go with that. And, yeah, I agree that there’s nothing at all wrong with it.

As I said, I don’t think it’s necessarily so easy to put yourself into one of the music-genre boxes that are out there. And, frankly, I wouldn’t mind if he redefined himself in every album he ever does — there are lots of things he could do well. But I suppose the record company would mind a lot.

I was surprised he’s doing Apologize on tour and he was really good on Sunday. I wish he was doing Crazy though. I read he’s doing it for the VIP crowd.

    His new intro -

I love David’s new intro. Giant David FTW. lol Notice that’s an adult male fan who took that video and he has all the performances from last night in PA uploaded.

edit: you need to read my guidelines. rude posts will be edited, eventually, I will ban you

  • frogcooke

Btw the tour isnt selling ‘horribly’ its selling fine since they are doing basically half arenas, and most of the time the upper seats arent even for sale. You’ll probably get some good seats if you search for them now because they recently released more tickets.

some of these venues dont even list david at all on their calender of event. Take the Atlanta one for example(they just did their 14.99 deal again and only now used a ad with david on it, but the calender still only lists it as a demi show.

some fan in dallas said if she wasnt a fan(meaning checks online etc etc), she would have no idea he was even coming there. She only has heard ads for demi on the radio.

I hear the KC one doesnt even come up on ticketmaster for him at all unless you somehow follow a link posted on his ning site.

Ain’t that the truth, I think. My casual friends in the 18-25 age range seems so much more mature than David. Maybe it’s the lack of college experience, maybe it’s his unique environment, I dunno. In order to mature as an artist, he needs to mature as a person, imo. It will be hard for David to cross over to the young adult audience if he doesn’t start using some more mature and edgy material. Plenty of young adults’ lives have some angst, discontent, fear, dispair in them and it’s hard for them to identify with David’s uniform positivism. It comes across as fake and irrelevant even though it should come across as hopeful and encouraging.

Funny you think that. I think plenty of young adults have hope, striving for better, and pride in them and David’s music comes across real to them. Maybe it’s just WHO it is. If they are angst than maybe the edgy music is what relates to them. If they are positive and upbeat than they are looking for that type of music also.
I look at most music that receives awards and they are not angsty songs. They are upbeat, positive vibe songs. David would do well to keep with that theme.
I think one of the great characteristics David has as a singer is his maturity in his voice. That is one of the things that attracted so many to him on Idol. He has it in him, I just think Jive has steered him towards younger listeners. David has said though that his next album he wants to have a more mature sound. I am hopeful of that.
Wasn’t it Larry King and David Cook who agreed that David is way mature at his age.

  • christine

I think mature now days gets mixed up with socially mature. Meaning that many young adults today are experimenting with sexual relations at a younger age, experimenting with drugs, borrowing larger amounts than what they can realistically afford for nice car and toys. That kind of activity is not necessarily mature. I think mature is somehow being redefined in american pop culture.

  • christine

“Theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re about being cool, grownup, and feelinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ sexy as an 11-year-old girl can, out on the town and screaminà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ in the arena.”

This explanation is another reason why I see David as mature. As far as mature for an 18 year old. If he came out on stage and acted like he was a grownup that would not look good either. He is not acting up or down in my opinion. So many of these younger artists today try and act adult before there years.

I am fascinated at David for just the very opposite reason that he embraces his youth and is an example to those his age that it’s ok to just be a “youth” still. Not to rush into adult matters and cares. To enjoy it! And he shares youthfulness when he talks which is refreshing and reassuring to many.

I just bought tickets to the show in Atlanta. It’s this coming Monday, and apparently they had a lot more tickets to sell. I got an email from Gwinnett Arena with an offer to buy tickets for $14.99. I couldn’t resist. I’m taking my 11 year old son and 9 year old daughter.

My 13 year old daughter and I are going to Idol Tour on July 31.

  • frogcooke

^^ awesome hope you enjoy it!

Well he sang it better than Kris, but it still really did nothing for me.
This girl sings this song amazingly well and shames both of the guysà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

I actually quite like Kris’ studio version, maybe even a bit more than the original by OneRepublic but I think the best live cover version I’ve heard/seen is that by Theo Tams, who won Canadian Idol last year:

My mom was going to try for a VIP ticket upgrade for us but Archie’s is closed. :(

Ticketmaster does not show Gwinnett under Archie’s name. When we go under Demi’s name she still has VIP’s floor up front. :(

Will they trade Demi for Archie if we buy hers? lol :( idts

Dang Archie for selling out his. :(

    I completely agree that DAà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s version above isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t the best Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve ever heard, by a long shot.

As much as I like this version, I agree it’s not even close to many of his better renditions. In fairness, I don’t know that he’s all that confident on the keyboard. He avoided a lot of the runs in the tour version etc and I think it’s because he focuses so much on the keys.

I absolutely love the grand red curtain opening to his set. The heart thumping is brilliant.

Kinda wish he was doing YEDL and Barriers thoughà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ lol lol

A big WORD to this. I don’t know why he rarely performs YEDL. That’s my favorite song off the album. ALTNOY never, ever grabbed me nor did Touch My Hand. Zero Gravity, YEDL, Barriers and You Can all have hit potential. Is it too late for any of them now?

Wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t it Larry King and David Cook who agreed that David is way mature at his age.

I definitely agree that he’s mature in his thoughts about his morals, values, standards, faith, music…. but I admit I find him very ‘child like’ in his interests. I think he’s been pretty sheltered for most of his life.

I am fascinated at David for just the very opposite reason that he embraces his youth and is an example to those his age that ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ok to just be a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“youthà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ still.

He’s going on 19 though. That doesn’t ring “youth” to me so much as “adult”. He needs to embrace adulthood and sometimes I don’t know that he wants to. I’m not trying to give you a hard time because I really can appreciate what you’re saying. I just see it differently I guess.

Well, I’ve always loved Archie’s version of this song, and wow his voice has gotten SO much stronger and steadier singing this song since the AI tour, and he’s accompanying himself on the piano too! Go go Archie!

A Fathers Day message of sorts?

Lol! As terrible as that situation was, a little angst could do his music some good. (Wow, that sounded okay in my head, but terrible once I actually wrote it out. I feel cruel.) MJ planted that idea in my head, so in the beginning while I was watching it, I couldn’t stop thinking about his dad, but by the end it had been driven out of my mind by his singing.

  • carolinacharms

I think sometimes society confuses or equates sexual provocativeness with “maturity.” How sad.

Review of David and Demi’s show in Wilkes-Barr, PA last night:

    http://blogs.mcall.com/lehighvalleymusic/2009/06/lovato-pleases-crowd-plots-future-in-wilkesbarre-show.html

    snip

In his 50-minute, 11-song set, Archuleta drew screams not just for great singing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ his big notes on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Hold Onà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You Canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ were worthy à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ but for just being a crowd-pleasing young guy. (He also got screams just for a small hand wave when his back-lit shadow appeared on the closed curtain before it rose for him.)

Now a year removed from his à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ second-place finish, Archuleta has grown into a stage presence that can command arenas. Opening with his current hit, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“A Little Too Not Over You,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ he bounced all over the expansive set, gestured more confidently and sang more assuredly.

    snip

All the while, the 18-year-old Archuleta seemed confident and content à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ as if he likes where heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s at. And so does his audience.

I’ve always thought “Hold On” should have been the song title for “My Hands.” LOL

Eh. It was really a rhetorical question meant to point out the irony, only. I have no idea what David is thinking when he’s singing his songs, and don’t spend any time thinking about it.
