Chris Daughtry and his band appeared on Oprah today to discuss the band’s bi-partisan political activities and their involvement in the “League of First Time Voters.” They served as the “house band” for the entire show, playing music out of breaks, etc. They performed the LOFTV theme song– the Foreigner cover, “Feels Like the First Time”–and closed the show with “What About Now.”

I voted today! YAY me.

What About Now:

It’s great that Chris is taking part in this effort.

    I voted today! YAY me.

Me too, and I was surprised by how moved I was to see people besides old, white men on the presidential lines. We’re making history today, no matter who wins.

  • forlife

Great show. They did a great job. I agree with Chris not endorsing any particular person. And stressing people make their own choices based on their own research.
    I voted too. :smile2_ee:

  • abbysee

Yeah Chris, watching now in NY, he’s doing a good job. Ka-ching!

Yay to all of us who voted. I don’t care who you vote for, voting is such an opportunity many across the world do not have.

I must also say in a very bi-partisan way that no matter who wins I think both men are honorable and love this country. That gives me hope for the future.

I took my 17 year old into the booth with me (so disappointed she could be 18 this year!), hubby took the youngest girl, and my oldest son took his 10 year old brother. Voting is a family affair for us, not just this year, but every year.

  • Suzanne

Thx for these clips, MJ. I also voted. I usually vote at about 9:30 after dropping a kid off at daycare. At my polling place, I’m around voter number 80 or 85. Today, I was voter 290. This is going to be an awesome turnout. Yay for the voice of democracy.

P.S. I love Chris, and his voice . . . but not his beard.

ETA–What happened to the harmony vocals on What about now? Is it also Chris on the CD? (Too bad one of those other guys isn’t doing the part–the higher harmony really adds energy to the song.) And Feels like the First Time is missing a lower harmony too. Weird.

Also ETA–I don’t know why David A has stayed neutral on the election when asked, but he usually comes across as not knowing what’s going on in the country . . . which is fine until he’s 18.

  • LK08

That is so smart to be neutral. I just hate it when celebrities are outspoken about their politics (Oprah) and it really turns me off. Either way, they are offending half of their audience. David Archuleta has been asked numerous times about his political veiws and he has deflected them every time. I hope he keeps that up.

I’m glad Chris is neutral, but I really have no problem with them speaking up. I still make up my own mind.

Thankfully, I voted early. No lines for me!! Woohoohoo!!

  • Michelle

Good for Chris in helping to get the vote out!

I voted…on Saturday ;) The lines in 2004 taught me to sign up for mail-in voting.

eta: woohoo GwendolynD! early voting ftw

  • LK08

Of course even if they speak out, we make up our own minds, but I am turned off by them speaking out. That is not what I want a singer to do. I want them to sing.

  • mcm

    To quote Laura Ingraham:
    “Shut Up and Sing!”
    ITA with Chris.

    Just, please, no Foreigner songs!

I’m fine with Chris publicly supporting a candidate or not. Has Oprah endorsed anyone? ; )

    Has Oprah endorsed anyone?

    HA!! Hmmm…let me think.

Agreed. As we like to say in Chicago, I voted early and often. I kid! I kid! I just voted early. :wink1_tb:
