Danny Gokey performed the National Anthem at last night’s Bobcats vs Celtics basketball game in Charlotte, NC. (Dec 1)

Danny watched the game from courtside seats, and did a meet and greet for lower level ticket holders before the game.

He told a fan that he’ll be shooting the video for “My Best Days” on December 16th and 17th.

Bonus: Danny performs his new single, “My Best Days” on FOX 5 Good Day Atlanta

That was an average performance of the NA at best… didn’t blow me away. Nice voice though.

    Dear Danny,

You have a very nice voice. Please work on your phrasing. There really should not be a pause to breathe between “burst” and “ing.”

I think that Danny did a good job with the National Anthem. I am glad to hear that he will be shooting his video on December 17 and 18. Hopefully his video will air some time at the end of this month/no later than early January. I can’t wait to see his video get played on CMT and GAC.

Yeah, this is why it’s gonna continue to bug me that Danny Gokey gets a major-label contract and Elliott Yamin and Melinda Doolittle, for example, do not.

And, yeah, I know that their genres don’t sell all that well today (although as an indie, Elliott *did* get a platinum single and an album that’s gone gold-plus in two countries….). And that they weren’t smart enough — or something — to decide to take their golden throats off to a country label.

But I really feel as if it would be good to have honed your skills more before you get that major-label contract. And Danny, although he has a nice voice to begin with, still has an awful lot of honing to do, if you ask me.

Why does Danny keep performing at sports arenas? And what was his genre before he crossed over to country? Danny is just karaoke to me. The AI judges made a big deal out of him, IMO.

I’m actually looking forward to Michael Sarver’s country debut album.

Actually I thought Danny sounded very good on the NA and also singing his new single My Best Days on Good Day Atlanta. Danny has been working very hard on his radio tour and with performances. Anyone who meets him says he is the nicest guy. He definately deserved a big label deal and has one of the best voices of Season 8 IMO.

Very interested to see the music video for My Best Days he is filming on Dec 17th and 18th and I plan to download his single on Dec 22d.

Could somebody please talk to this guy about breath control? Seriously, every high school kid in chorus knows you don’t take a big breath in the middle of a phrase, let alone a word! And I’m sorry, but I heard a few key changes in there too!

  • monte

Danny has been performing lots of places, not just sports arenas. He has a big charity event in Arkansas this weekend (Martina McBride was their performer last year) and will be performing at Coyote Joe’s in North Carolina with other country acts also. Believe he is also performing in Raleigh, NC this week. He is interviewing and singing his new single for radio stations almost daily. Danny is doing a grassroots promotional tour for his single. I suspect he will have more serious promotion when it gets close to time for his album to drop in March.

  • JosieX

And what was his genre before he crossed over to country?

He didn’t have one, he is new to the music industry. I don’t think singing in church is considered a genre from which one can cross over.

I agree that he can improve his breath control. But there are a lot of singers with excellent breath control who could never sound like Danny in a million years. Some may consider that a good thing, that’s ok. I think that his tone and range and expressiveness are beautiful. I’m glad that the people in a position to make decisions about signing him agreed with me. I love Melinda and Elliott too, and think it’s a shame they weren’t signed by a major label. But I think that Danny deserved to be also, and I’m glad he was. He has grown as a performer, but I’m sure there is always room for improvement, just as there is with any performer.

I’m very pleased to hear that there will be a music video for My Best Days! That will be a lot of fun to see.

I think Danny sounds really good here on the National Anthem. I’ve heard him sing it several times, and he always does a really good job. He did change it up a bit here, which he hasn’t done in the past. I, personally, believe that Danny and Adam have the best singing voices of Season 8, and I know quite a good many people who feel the same way. They have different strengths, but they are both great singers in my book.

I’m looking forward to the video, and to his performance on AI in the Spring. He told a fan last week that he would be performing on Idol this season. Can’t wait!

  • lucy

Why does Danny keep performing at sports arenas?

Well, really most of the idols (and other singers) do this. Sports arenas are a good place to sing and get your name and voice out there in front of a whole bunch of people at once — and there aren’t that many other places where you can do that kind of promotion, really.

  • druzilla

He’s still a middling singer but wow, deep breath mid word?

  • JB1

sorry, breath control maybe…. but what a voice!

  • PJG

Why does Danny keep performing at sports arenas?

Danny gets gigs because he does a good job and people come to see him. He’s been very busy. He will be singing at an NFL game after Christmas weekend also.

I think he did a great job singing this song a capella and his big voice sure filled the arena. Obviously none of the Idols are perfect in their delivery 100% of the time; but his is one of few who is pretty darn close. IMO, he has delivered the NA better than any Idol I’ve heard; all 3 times so far.

He has the best voice of S8 and deserved the great record contract with a major recording label. Not only that, I don’t think an A-list producer like Mark Bright would take on someone who didn’t show huge potential.

I’m really happy with how his label has been treating him; trying to distance him from AI and slowly, quietly introducing him to country fans.

  • CFIdolsfan

Great posts on behalf of Danny,:-). For those who follow his schedule, Danny is not limited to singing in arenas, and yes, someone like Mark Bright is not going to take a chance with someone he didn’t think could do well. I have heard supposed artists sing the anthem and done poorly, IMO, compared to some of these “karaoke” singers that come off this show called “American Idol.” Many of our Idols do very well with it, including Phil Stacey, who has sung it many a time as part of his Navy and reservist careers. He, too, has sung it at many an arena, including in Jacksonville and at the Tennessee Titans’ stadiums, to name a few. I cannot explain, either, why Elliott and Melinda, who btw are also 3rd-place finishers, have not gotten bigger deals; but I, too, like their voices. I’m sure that Danny will get the training and encouragement as he pursues his career. Phil got some encouragement from Tim McGraw before he started out; so I am sure that others in country music will encourage Danny, too. Keep going, Danny, and can’t wait for that video!

  • AndSheSays

Uh I actually love this. He changed up the song and made it soulful. :)

  • googletot

I think Danny did a wonderful version of the Anthem and he put his whole heart and soul into it. I have a feeling that Danny is going to do great in the country music genre and have a number of hits with the singles in his album. IMO he has the best voice for season 8.

  • PJG

Just watched Danny live stream from 95 KAT radio. He sang 5 songs to a small audience.

One was a new song written by Kara DiGuardio; “I Still Believe”. It was an acoustic show, but I think it sounds like it will be very bluesy and a kick a** song with his full band.

He also sang Tiny Life again by Jeffrey Steele, and now that he isn’t sick anymore, it really sounded beautiful.

Really getting excited for this album!

  • aek

Aww, I missed a new song? PJG, do you know where I can hear “I Still Believe,” if anywhere?

I have really been impressed with the songs that Danny has on his album thus far.

I did read that his bus broke down today after he sang at a private gig. He and the band had to rent cars today. Hope he gets that fixed soon.

I plan on going to see Danny in Raleigh on Friday night barring any unforseen circumstances. Can’t wait!

  • PJG

aek, I hope that the station will post the performance: they seem to have other performances posted.

Keep checking 95 KAT or Ihrt.

It was a very interesting Kara DiGuardia song; def. not No Boundaries -like! Sounded like it will be very bluesy; Danny even said “just wait until the full band is up kickin it on stage.”

  • steph6449

aek, the station probably will put up the performances Danny did online. At the other site you’ve been visiting recently, one of the people is already monitoring to see when they become available. I heard parts of the show tonight, Kara’s song seemed a pretty good fit for Danny and another more upbeat number.

I’ll be interested how things go in Raleigh, when Danny possibly could be bringing a full band doing a non-acoustic performance for the first time? The acoustic sets are nice, but not completely representative of what some of these songs can be like.

Danny changed up the anthem quite a lot in last night’s performance. I don’t always care for that but Danny found a good balance between giving it some different touches, and keeping true to the spirit and purpose of the song. He’s done a great job at each of the three performances of the anthem, and I understand he may have at least one more at a pro sports venue late this month. I saw quite a few people who were tweeting others to check out video of Danny’s version of the NA last night–funny though as there were a lot more Celtics fans following it, than Bobcats fans. I don’t watch the Bobcats, but their poor fans seemed a little demoralized to get too excited for this game. Lol. Well, I guess they were right if that was the case as Celtics did win by a good margin. :)

  • aek

Thanks PJG and Steph6449…I’ll check over there.

I felt the same way. I don’t normally like it when the anthem is changed up, but I actually loved this. It wasn’t an over the top kind of change, he just made it very soulful. For most performers, I get a little nervous when they sing the anthem, but I really don’t get nervous for Danny. It seems fairly easy for him. Danny really has an AWESOME voice….very rich and powerful.

  • CFIdolsfan

Yes,pjg, I would be interested, too, in that new song, :-D . Please let us know, too, if there are any links to his performances on KAT radio.

  • man5ell

I thought Danny did an absolutely awesome job on the National Anthem. That is the hardest song to sing and it has sounded different but like a masterpiece each time I hear him do it. This album is going to be a real treat for me!
