Dancing with the Stars – Season 16 – The Finale! (Night 2- Results)

Welcome to the 2-hour season finale event of season 16 of Dancing with the Stars! After ten weeks of competition, we are down to our final four, which will soon be a final three. Those three will then battle it out one last time before we find out who is our new champion. As part of the usual finale celebration, we will see all the celebrities from this season return to dance as well as some very special guest performers. Scheduled for tonight are Pitbull, Psy, Wynonna Judd, and Jessica Sanchez. The show promises lots of surprises as well before the super special mirror ball trophy is handed out.

So, how do you guys see the competition measuring up? Well, polling here at MJ’s suggest that Jacoby & Karina will be the couple that is eliminated before tonight’s instant dance round. I agree with that one. The ladies were just so strong last night and Jacoby’s freestyle, though fun, didn’t show him off as much it could have. I think the other fan bases votes and judges scorea will spell the end for Jacoby. And that will leave us with three. Could Jacoby sneak into the top three with Aly being eliminated? There is a small chance it could happen. Put it this way, I wouldn’t be shocked.

Kellie Pickler is the favorite arond here (no real surprise considering the American Idol fans) to take the trophy, though Zendaya does have a nice amount of votes herself. In my eyes, it is definitely between those two. You have Zendaya, who has been just about perfect all season long and has also won all the twitter voting contests and her partner Val, who has yet to win this show. On the other hand, you have Kellie, who’s personality and fantastic dancing has kept her as a deserving front runner all season long and her partner Derek, the best choreographer on the show who has quite a large amount of fans of his own. This is so evenly matched! Either one would be worthy of raising that trophy high in the air.

In terms of last night, I thought Kellie took the freestyle round with her amazing contemporary routine with Derek. Zendaya took the Cha-cha-cha relay and both couples were even in round one. Unless one messes up on the instant dance tonight (they only have an hour to come up with a routine), this will more than likely come down to who’s fans voted harder. My heart says that Kellie will come out victorious but my head is screaming Zendaya. It is that close in my eyes. Unfortunately for Aly or Jacoby, I think they will have to settled for fourth and third, respectively. Aly peaked at a very good time and the judges have been loving her lately but I don’t think she has achieved enough to overcome either of the other two ladies.

All in all, it has been a strong season with these four, while everyone else has been predictably eliminated. It hasn’t been a boring season though. We had some fun theme nights, some great entertainment and some particularly riveting dancing. I look forward to seeing how tonight shapes up and I am glad you guys will join me on the ride. With all that being said, let’s get started with our last segment by segment recap of the season. :D

Segment 1
The pros and troupe members are out to kick us off with an intense and sexy number to Pitbull’sDon’t Stop The Party.” Pretty soon, all the celebs of the season join in. Everyone is dancing in the ballroom. The finalists are last to join in. Wow. That’s a lot of people on the dance floor. Very fun opening number.

And now, a quick look back at last night’s competition.

Segment 2
So, who won the twitter contest? Kellie & Derek. They will dance their amazing contemporary routine from last night. Color me surprised that Zendaya wasn’t able to win the twitter vote, since she has won every twitter vote this season. Could this be a precursor of things to come? Or is Zendaya still staying the title? Stay tuned. And the dance is just as mesmerizing as last night. Kudos to both of them.

A package airs now featuring the judges discussing their thoughts on the final four. Of course, they all agree that thing is going to be very close. Due to the ABC.COM snafu last night, only voting via text/phone/facebook will count.

Time for the first results of the night…

The couple leaving in 4th place is… Aly & Mark.

Well, I said it was a possibility. Jacoby is obviously a fan favorite and even lower scores from the judges couldn’t stop him from getting more audience votes to overcome Aly. Aly is very graceful in her exit and wishes the final three the best. A package airs featuring the history of Aly and Mark.

The final 3 will have less than an hour to prepare the instant dance.

Segment 3
The female pros and the three ladies who made it to the finals will take it to the floor to dance. #GirlPower in the house as they all dance to Beyonce’sWho Run The World (Girls).” Kellie, Zendaya, and Aly have a very limited role here naturally as the pros own the ballroom. Strong number!

And now, a look back at the first three week’s of competition.

Time for Wynonna to perform “I Wanna Know What Love Is.” I love this song. Tony and Peta are out to contemporary dance beautifully. Wynonna sounds fantastic. Talk about singing your heart out. Wynonna just slayed. Awesome!

Segment 4
A look back at how Lisa would do anything to get good scores.

Lisa and Gleb are out to perform the foxtrot. LOL. Lisa moves Gleb away (how could she?) and Len comes down to dance with Lisa. Len has some good foxtrot moves. Fun!

We now hear about Dorothy’s reason for doing the show and her unfortunate week two withdrawal. Tristan is not able to dance tonight. He has an injury. So, Dorothy left due to an injury and now Tristan can’t dance. So, Tristan and Henry will dance the viennese waltz. It is really sad that Dorothy wasn’t able to continue on. She made the right decision back in week two but she was such a wonderful person and I was rooting for her early on. At least she gets the opportunity to dance tonight. And she’s doing well. Kristi Yamaguchi (yes, you read that right) joins her! Aww, this is so nice. Dorothy gets to dance with the person who inspired her to do the show. That was fantastic.

Segment 5
Time to see some Andy Dick footage. LOL. He is crying with hundreds of tissues surrounding him. He calls Carrie Ann a bitch (jokingly). Andy is pretending as though he is back in the competition, not just returning to dance. He and Sharna are repeating their funny and crazy jazz routine from earlier in the season with some added elements- and dancers.

Jacoby & Karina got salsa to perform in the instant jazz. Brooke is interrupting their practice as she does for every finale. I kid. I know she has to do this but they are losing valuable practice time.

And here comes Psy. He is doing his hit single, “Gentleman.” Those who watched the American Idol finale saw this number. I can’t deny though that it brings a smile to my face. This guy obviously knows how to make hits with dance steps that become trends. It looks like the entire ballroom is dancing. This is a party atmosphere, for sure. Even Andy, Victor, and Sean joined in!

Segment 6
Brooke interrupts Kellie & Derek. They are working on the jive. Kellie & Derek want to just have fun since it is their last dance of the competition. Brooke tells them to get back at rehearsing.

Time to look back at three more weeks in the competition.

Members of the troupe get to dance one more time to Little Mix’s song, “Wings.” The troupe are definitely a talented bunch and I bet one or two may join the regular stable of dancers next season. I really hope one of them is Witney because that girl is a firecracker, as she was on SYTYCD.

Segment 7
Time for Brooke to cut in on Zendaya & Val’s rehearsal. They are also doing the jive. Val got 14 stitches. Zendaya wants to have fun and enjoy her last dance with Val.

Pitbull is out to perform. And Latin fever has taken over the ballroom. This is another artist who knows how to get everyone up and moving. I have to hand it to the producers tonight. They are really bringing out some fun artists to perform.

Time to look back at the last three week’s of competition.

Segment 8
Time for the final dances of the competition.

Jacoby & Karina are up first.
A really solid routine. Jacoby is working those hips. A few minor mistakes throughout the routine that I noticed but it was a heck of a lot of fun. Some of the usual Jacoby steps of course. It was a good routine but it wasn’t fantastic. I don’t want to be too critical of any of these three finalists though because they only learned the music less than an hour ago. So, good job Jacoby!

Len says Jacoby always comes out and is unexpected. He calls him a breathe of fresh air. Bruno loves Jacoby’s charisma and showmanship. Jacoby’s mother is holding up her usual “10” paddle. Carrie Ann says Jacoby performed a dance of a champion.
Final scores- Carrie Ann- 10, Len- 10, Bruno- 10 for a total of 30/30.

I imagine all these couples will receive perfect scores tonight.

Segment 9
Kellie & Derek are up next.
A pretty darn perfect jive if you ask me. Kellie was in-sync with Derek the entire time. Some great fast paced jive steps and some awesome choreography. Great connection between the two and a great final dance.

Bruno says it is like watching the incredible siblings. He says Kellie reminds him of Julianne Hough (Derek’s sister and former pro on this show). Carrie Ann calls it a perfect ending to a wonderful journey. Len says Kellie is always clean and precise. He calls her awesome.
Final scores- Carrie Ann- 10, Len- 10, Bruno- 10 for a total of 30/30.

Yeah, we are getting three perfect scores so this will really end up being all about the audience votes.

Segment 10
Dancing last, Zendaya & Val.
Another superb jive. This one has more of a fun feel and the music totally fits it. Zendaya is having a blast. Wow. Some really amazingly quick jive steps. Fun! This is a different jive from Kellie in terms of the personality of the dance, which was really nice to see. Fabulous job.

Carrie Ann is going to be sad not watching Zendaya and Val dance. She says it has been a joy. Len says that for a young lady, Zendaya dances with such maturity. He says when the show is over, Zendaya will fly away. Bruno calls it a massive hit.
Final scores- Carrie Ann- 10, Len- 10, Bruno- 10 for a total of 30/30.

No more points to be awarded. Zendaya is in the lead by a single point. Has she won? Has Kellie? Did Jacoby come from behind and take it? It is almost time to find out!

Segment 11
Jessica Sanchez is out to perform “Feel This Moment” as we see highlights of the three finalists and their times on the show. Aww. What a nice tribute to the finalists. Great vocal by Jessica.

And now…results! Oh boy.

The couple in 3rd place is… Jacoby & Karina.

Jacoby makes a joke about how he will catch balls with elegance now. Some hysterical faces of Jacoby are on display. Jacoby is really funny. LOL. Sometimes, you can’t make out a single thing Jacoby is saying.

Segment 12
This is it folks.

The winners of season 16 of DWTS are… KELLIE & DEREK.

Congrats to the 2nd place finishers… Zendaya & Val.

I want to thank MJ for letting me come back to blog. I want to thank ALL of you who posted, read, and followed along with me all season. It wouldn’t be nearly as fun as it is without you guys. I have been so entertained by the show this season and had a blast live blogging. I will be back in the fall for season 17 and I hope everyone joins me. If it is another season like this, we will be in for a treat.

Stay safe everyone and thanks again! <3

I have really enjoyed this season. It has been really entertaining.
I hope that Zendaya and Val can pull out the win. I have gained such a new appreciation for Val this season. Before I was very lukewarm about him. I think he has been such a fabulous teacher, mentor, and choreographer for Zendaya. They have done some fantastic dancing this season. They are definitely my favorite partnership this season and one of my favorite throughout all of the seasons. They just clicked and had a connection from the very first dance. It has been a joy to watch them dance. He had challenges with Zendaya and he met them head on and he created wonderful routines. I can not count how many times I have watched their contemporary, jive, samba, argentine tango, paso doble, salsa, cha cha. All of them. I loved that he always kept the focus on Zendaya and she was the star in their dances. That is how it should be.
And Zendaya is just a revelation. She is just a star. She is just a natural born dancer and performer. The way that she took each of the different styles of dance and was able to transform into the character of the dance was amazing. I just point blank enjoy watching her dance. It is obvious that she enjoys dancing as well. Her focus and work ethic is unbelievable. Her attitude and her appreciation for her fans and Val is great as well. I hope even bigger things happen for her.

  • http://twitter.com/bentley1530 Bentley1530

I agree, I enjoy watching Zendaya and Val. He has done a great job with her. What I really appreciate is that he always let’s her take center stage. Also since I am not in the right demo, the Disney kids are always unknown to me but all have done such a great job over the seasons. They all seem to be really hard workers and solid performers who are able to sell their routines.

  • jcabby

I wish this season didn’t end. I want to see the Top 4 dance again. I love seeing these finalists. They have been great for the show.

  • Kris

Yeah, even in their salsa trio she was front and center. It was about her. I agree about the disney stars all being hard workers. They have great attitudes as well.

  • Kris

I have enjoyed the top 4 as well.

  • Chablis

So nervous. Wanted Ally but really wish it will be Z. But pretty sure will be Kellie.

  • raya

Color me a little surprised that Aly went out 4th and not Jacoby. Not that I should be surprised a football star has a fanbase, but I guess I thought he was far enough behind that he would go out 4th on top of the improvement arc they’ve been giving Aly. Then again, I guess he wasn’t that behind Aly. He was pretty far behind Zendaya and Kellie.

It’s no secret I’ve wanted Zendaya/Val to win, but as long as it comes down to her and Kellie, I’m good.

  • Kris

I too am surprised about Aly going out 4th. I thought Jacoby would be in that position. But the one thing that Jacoby has always been was an entertainer. He may not have been technicially good but he was entertaining. He is a showman.

  • tucker davis

Well, I’m rooting for Kellie! Whatever happens, she’s definitely made a name for herself…outside of country music.

  • raya

Agreed. Thought it was kind of weird though they had that girls number right after Aly got eliminated though, so she was forced to get back up and dance like two seconds after being eliminated.

  • mchcat

    Me too

  • mchcat

Did you hear Home as the good bye song for Ally?

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

Well, I predicted Aly to be 4th in the poll. Maybe I’ll be right about Kellie winning. :::crossing fingers:::

  • jcabby

I wonder if Jacoby will keep the winning streak of football players winning the competition.

  • supersonic

Makes sense. It was her theme for the Olympics.

  • Kris

So far I’ve enjoyed the returning dances.

  • supersonic

This song sounds like Gangnam Style.

  • raya

The only thing is as of now, he’s pretty far behind both Kellie and Zendaya pointwise. It was one thing to overcome Aly, but he was 8 and 9 points behind the other two respectively. Though I suppose that could change with the instant dance if he manages to narrow the gap on one of them.

  • http://twitter.com/sara1411A sara

    yeah baby :)

  • http://www.facebook.com/susann.fritsch Susann Fritsch

Aside from the fact that would be a travesty and slap in the face to Zendaya and Kellie, he can’t even hold a candle to Donald Driver. So yeah, please no.

  • supersonic

How curious that both Zendaya and Kellie got the jive for their instant dance. And look, she’s wearing sneakers again.

  • raya

Jive is one of the few dances where it’s generally allowed. But either way both Zendaya and Kellie could kill the jive in their sleep, so neither really has the advantage there. Besides, Kellie won the encore? Isn’t that a good thing?

  • jcabby

Jacoby is such a cool guy, great chemistry with Karina.

  • http://www.facebook.com/beaugard.stevens Beaugard Stevens

I hope Kellie wins but I am not sure she will.

  • http://twitter.com/bentley1530 Bentley1530

So instant dances are not so instant, right. The work out a routine and then adjust it to the music if necessary. Still it is pretty amazing that the stars can pull it off.

  • jcabby

Zendaya and Val, wow that was awesome!

  • Kris

I’m so glad Len said that about Zendaya. That is how I’ve always felt about her and why I have so enjoyed watching her dance. She just doesn’t dance the steps. She brings the emotion along with the technique.

  • http://twitter.com/bentley1530 Bentley1530

I am not enjoying this version of “feel this moment”, it is a hook not a song.

  • rayni

Me either :( I really wanted it to be a moment for Jessica.

  • raya

I swear Val was tearing up there.

  • Kris

This is the right final 2.

  • jcabby

Holy cow! I totally did not expect that!

  • kk

Agreed, but how in the hell did Jacoby make it to 3rd. smh.

  • http://twitter.com/sara1411A sara

    damn it!!!
    my fav never wins :(

  • http://twitter.com/Girltalkbf AlesheaDominique

    Yay Kellie!

  • kk

The right one WON! So glad for Kellie.

  • rayni

Yessss!! Kellie!! So deserving!! Woot woot!

  • http://www.facebook.com/susann.fritsch Susann Fritsch

YAY!!! I am thrilled for her!

  • Kris

    Congrats to Kellie.
Well, I’m disappointed. I knew that Zendaya was going to have a tough time winning. I am very proud of what she has accomplished.

  • emme1000

Good for her…she is a really special woman!

  • jcabby

    Congrats to Kellie!

  • raya

Zendaya has a huge career ahead of her IMO. She’s on her way to good things.

  • supersonic

Best result ever! Yay! The right couple won! Yes!

  • H.A.

Congratulations to Kellie. Another Idol doing their thing. Kellie really needs to expand her career to TV and movies. She is so talented.

  • brenoga

YAY KELLIE!!!! So so happy for her. She’s an AMAZING dancer and an even more amazing human being. Truly nice people like her should get everything good life has to offer.

  • http://twitter.com/dancinsD Dancin VI#81

wooohooo yeaaaaaah kellie :) and congrats to zendaya.. my grandaughter loves her watches her show all the time but immmmmm thrilled for kellie !!!

  • tucker davis

I’m happy, happy, happy! Waded through 2 hours of filler for 2 minutes of joy! Congrats, Kellie!

  • Liteasy

Cogratulations to Kellie & Derek – so happy for them, and the right couple won!!

  • AdenEsh

    Yay, for Kellie

  • Kris

I agree. I see big things happening for. I know winning the mirror ball trophy doesn’t really impact anything. It isn’t going to change her career. But i really wanted her to win. I think she truly deserved it for all the hard work and phenomenal performances she did this season. I think Val deserved it as well.

  • http://twitter.com/weelassie11 Lisa

    Yay Kellie!

  • Liteasy

Jessica was screechy tonight, and the song was boring.

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

So happy for Kellie. I’ve been very impressed with her since Idol. She’s become a polished singer, a wonderful, entertaining, and funny guest and now an excellent dancer. The lady could have her own variety show!

Should we now expect more Idol contestants being invited to Dance with the Stars!? After all, ever since the Olympians and Football players showed up and did well, we’ve had a ton of them represented. Who from Idol will compete for that ridiculous trophy now?

  • http://www.facebook.com/beaugard.stevens Beaugard Stevens

congrats to kellie- she earned it. The producer said a year or two ago that every year finalists from American Idol lobby to get on the show but that they would not consider AI contestants- so it’s nice they changed their mind and it looks like a great pick because she won!

  • ptebwwong

I could definitely see more ex-Idols being invited for DWTS. Kellie did suggest Kat. Kat would also have time to do the show since Smash is canceled.

  • alar borja

It WAS a moment for Jessica … !!

How many American Idol runner-ups can get to sing on TV for a Reality Show watched by millions .. a year after the Season competition she was in..

And she brought the right emotion for the pairs awaiting the results ..

Now I know what Michael Orland tweeted about ..

“Hope u tune in 2morrow nite 4#DWTS finale. Not just 4 @kelliepickler win, but my girl @JessicaESanchez is singing an arrangement of mine.”

That rendition of ” Feel the Moment ” was bittersweet for the competition.

  • DaisyMagnolia

Considering how many b****** about her? I’m not sure. I guess her naysayers are pleased as punch, though.

Can’t say I’m pleased with the results. Derek is pretty darn insufferable for me and now the Boy Wonder has four MBTs. *barf*

  • http://twitter.com/jasongorny92 Jason Gorny

Yay!! So happy for Kellie =) I hope Idol will give her a shout out.

  • alar borja

It was also a ” MOMENT ” for Jessica Sanchez.
thank you Michael Orland for the beautiful arrangement..

  • DaisyMagnolia

Because he was good? SMH. Let’s face it, Aly just wasn’t hot stuff at all.

  • jcabby

Although I am happy for Kellie, I thought this was Zendaya’s to win. She was my fave.

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

The producer said a year or two ago that every year finalists from
American Idol lobby to get on the show but that they would not consider
    AI contestants-

Are you kidding?! After the non-celebs and gadflys they’ve had on this show, they turned their nose up to people who have followings and an actual talent?! I didn’t know that. Seriously, that is funny. Lord. I would’ve thought they would have thanked their lucky stars … pardon the expression.

  • DaisyMagnolia

Well, I’m disappointed. I’ll sit at that table by myself. Jacoby was lots of fun and isn’t that at least half of what this show is supposed to be. Guess not. :-/

  • Kris

Most of those people were Derek Hough fans who saw her as a threat to him winning. Their constant complaints about her being a ringer I found hilarious given the fact that he won with a ringer. They made constant conspiracy theories about how ABC was trying to rig the constant for her.

  • DaisyMagnolia

Can’t totally blame them. They were competitors for years and we know that Idols can bring in the cray-cray fans. It may be more headache than it’s worth

  • supersonic

I think we can probably expect more Idol contestants on DWTS. I’ve seen people say that they want Adam Lambert on the show.

  • Heidijoy

So happy for Kellie and Derek!! Well deserved!!

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

They need cray-cray fans if they want to keep their ratings high-high.

Besides … come on! … Bristol Palin, the woman with a stick up her butt and whose only talent was getting knocked up?!

  • perfectstorm

How many American Idol runner-ups can get to sing on TV for a Reality Show watched by millions .. a year after the Season competition she was in..

Off the top of my head, Pia Toscano, who finished even lower than Jessica. It would have been better if Jessica had sung her own song.

  • lexa

Yes!!!! So happy for Kellie and Derek!

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Zendaya’s naysayers knows she’s very talented, so they were threatened for their special snowflakes. Whatever, I’m over foolish negative comments about talents like Zendaya that come from a more personal place, rather than about how well they perform.

With that said, congrats to Kellie. If there was anyone else aside from Zendaya I wanted to win, it was her. Doesn’t change the fact that I’m disappointed. Oh well :/

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Oh God help me with that one. I rather he judges idol.

  • H.A.

The entertainment shows without the cray cray fans are more enjoyable.

  • MichaelG (MikhailXO)

Wanted Zendaya…but Kellie was my 2nd choice. :) Congrats Kellie.

  • Incipit

Well that was sweet. I am happy to see that Kellie won – well earned. That freestyle dance is unforgettable. No matter if the Mirror Ball has no actual currency – it still represents. Kellie worked her tail off, ‘and’ was still doing shows in the middle of all this. I’m glad she has validation. IMO.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

Congratulations to Kellie and Derek – a much deserved victory Always great to see IDOL alumni have success!

  • lexa

Oh my, as much as I love Adam I just can’t see it…..He would love the costumes though!

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

I hope more talented Idol alumni will be allowed to participate. The popular ones will bring a following. Probably the best I have seen is Toddrick Hall, but is he popular? Maybe Katie Stevens? I wonder if Janelle can dance?

  • Kris

She was my fave as well. I didn’t think she was going to win though. I thought she had too many strikes against her.

  • H.A.

I don’t think you’ll see Adam on DWTS unless he oes on to perform.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

So unfortunate personal vendettas get in the way of the best winning. Silly bias against this girl over nothing. Kellie won because she had great talent in dancing as well (still not sure about the singing…), but she’s a reminder of what middle America prefers.

  • Kris

I agree. First, I think people didn’t expect Zendaya to be as good as she was and do as well as she did. I think they predicted she would go the way of Sabrina. When that obviously wasn’t going to be the case the nastiness started to come out. It is a shame because she is such a bright and talented young woman with a great head on her shoulders. I saw comments from adults that you’d expect teenagers to me making.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

Does anyone think Kellie looked pretty thin?

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

    Wasn’t she always thin?

  • H.A.

I can’t see any of the male Idols on DWTS. They probably all have 2 left feet. I think Kat would be fantastic. She’s very graceful a lot like Kellie.

  • tucker davis

I’d probably lose a little if I worked out like they did!

  • cherelann

Kellie has certainly transcended her humble beginnings. Hopefully she will be able to incorporate this experience into her future endeavors. She has a heart of gold and is a most worthy champion.

Franky thank you for another wonderful season of DWTS recaps. Your enthusiasm never wavers!

  • tucker davis

He had a bigger fan base than Aly. Football players always bring big fan bases with them!

  • abbysee

I am so glad Kellie won. What a wonderful journey for her!

  • tucker davis

I agree about Kellie! In seven years she’s gone from a small town Sonic drive-in to Top 7 on American Idol to winning DWTS! I hope Simon was watching!!!!!

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

I betcha Constantine would be game … God forbid.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

Happy for Kellie! I only watched sporadically, but she was terrific! :-)

  • http://twitter.com/Sassycatz Sassycatz

This can only reflect well on Idol…. American Idol not only produces champion singers but champion dancers as well. ;-)

  • macfae

YAY !! I’m so happy for Kellie. She’s a total sweetheart. I think her freestyle must have had an impact on voters. I hope she can put her new found ability and passion to use. If nothing else, she’s shown a lot of personal growth through the season and that’s valuable in itself.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

She’s always been tiny. She looks healthy though.

  • Liteasy

Zendaya’s fans were pretty nasty to Kellie on youtube with Kellie’s awesome performance. Karma came back to bite them!

  • supersonic

No. Not Constantine. I bet he would be game, though.

  • Liteasy

Pia came in 9th and performed on DWTS.

  • supersonic

I’m not saying he’d do it. I know that I don’t want him to do it. I’m just saying that’s what some people want. Especially since he was in the audience a couple of weeks back.

  • supersonic

Saw Kellie and Derek on my local news. They’re still giddy and in shock. They weren’t expecting it.

  • http://twitter.com/MBallesteros MB

Yay for Kellie and Derek!!! I think the freestyle dance gave them the win. Great choreography matched with great talent. Well deserved!!!

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

So happy for Kellie. Well deserved.

  • Kris

I just think that she probably isn’t going to be the favorite of the type of audience that watches this show. She is young and she is a disney artist. To top that off she got the ringer claim. For all the complaints of the ringers they hardly win because just like American idol, the best singers and dancers don’t always win. I don’t think a disney artist is probably ever going to win this show. I think Kellie won because she was good and because she appealed more to the audience of this show.

  • iluvai

I love Kellie and Derek. But dayum, that little girl is amazing and her partner showed the utmost respect towards her. Well done by all!!!

  • tucker davis

Interesting article on how Derek & Kellie mastered the gravity-defying move during their free style performance & gorgeous picture of the move.

Many Kellie/Derek fans have been just as nasty to Zendaya, if not more so in the sense that they are supposedly adults who should know better. How can you expect the kids to know better if the adults behave just as badly> That said, why would Zendaya be expected to pay for the actions of some of her fans?

  • raya

Exactly. I bet these so-called Derek fans would have been praising Zendaya up and down if she had been paired with him. It’s only a problem because she is talented and was paired up with a different pro.

A well-deserved win for Kellie Pickler! Congratulations Kellie!

  • Incipit

Very interesting article – and the picture was great – hard to imagine Kellie doing that lean without wires! They may have been “selling the dance with the power of the dance”, as Kellie said, but thus one also depended on the power of the dancers…and they both brought it. Not to mention, Kellie is fearless with showing her emotions on stage.

I noticed during the show that when Derek realized what sort of raw material he had in Kellie, he kept devising choreography that would show her off – like that amazing silhouette portion of the Argentine Tango – – but this dance was the culmination, with a move he had never even tried with a Pro – in that regard – it truly ‘was’ Super Sized. JMO.

So happy for Kellie! She worked so hard and was just amazing.

Thanks for all the recaps Franky!

  • Happyhexer

Franky, many thanks to you (and MJ) for this DWTS blog. I’ve only been able to catch a few episodes on TV. The rest of the time I “watched” here. Your blog is as good as, maybe better than, watching it live! (I adore your commentary. Fair but real.)

I never watched DWTS before because the premise sounds so cheesy. I don’t know whether I lucked into a particularly good season or what, but I thoroughly enjoyed myself.

Side benefit: the show got me up on my feet dancing right along with everyone else! I love to dance!

  • Happyhexer

Okay, am I the only one on here who liked BOTH Kellie AND Zendaya?

  • breakdown

I liked Zendaya but I wanted Kellie to win. I think she sealed the deal with her stunningly beautiful freestyle last nite. When Zendaya lost she showed a lot of class and poise for a 16 year old. She is a true role model.

I’m so very pleased! Only watched this season because of Kellie and she didn’t disappoint. What a doll! Congratulations.

It looks like everything went as planned except for Aly coming in 4th. Even Jacoby’s low scores couldn’t help her but it did ensure he didn’t have a chance to win. So part of it worked. The Disney kid made the finals but didn’t win which seems to be DWTSs goal each season. It’s only a surprise when they don’t make the finals. And, please don’t win! Maybe that’s why the online voting was messed up this time? So Kellie’s winning was no surprise. She was good. I know I was surprised to see how flexible she is and that she was in such good shape especially core strength which is so vital in any form of dancing but especially jazz/contemporay. Derek let her shine in shaping/strength movements, for instance the AT silhouette, rumba, jazz. And staged around her flaws like with the fog machine or emphasis on himself. She’s made for contemporay and it showed.

It’s good to know there are DWTS fans who prefer contemporary. Or maybe by the time the finals come around, they’re tired of the fast footwork or rigid body postures, There’s Kellie this season and Melissa last season.

    Yay, yay, yay!!!

I’ve been following the show through the videos posted here at MJ’s, and this season was so much more enjoyable and entertaining for me than the last few seasons. I stopped watching the show when super-annoying contestants like Bristol Palin and Kate Gosselin were on and persisted when much better and more entertaining contestants were eliminated. I think that both Zendaya and Kellie would have been worthy winners, but for me, Kellie’s amazing freestyle dance during the finale put her on top. So glad to see that she won.

Adam was in the audience to support his good friend Brooke Wendle who choreographed the number performed by the children’s group. He wasn’t there to lobby to be a contestant. Buy hey if they asked him, I think he would be great (assuming that he would want to do it). IMO he has a lot of natural ability.

  • jpfan2

Why do you think there’s some ‘plan” in the way the finishers place?
Who ultimately cares if any contestant comes in 4th, 5th, 3rd etc. There are no prizes in the show except bragging rights. The only thing that matters for this show is ratings. It actually works in the show’s favor when the “wrong” people (like Bristol) last too long on the show!

  • jpfan2

I liked all the finalists but Kellie and Zendaya were in another class. I didn’t watch the whole season but I never heard Kellie identified once as being from Idol. It was always country artist.

  • dabney c

No. I was so torn last night because to me they’re equally excellent and fun to watch. Either way I would have been thrilled about the winner and bummed about the 2nd placer.

  • Liteasy

DWTS is no more cheesy than American Idol!

  • Kirsten

Congrats Kellie! I’m so happy about her win and impressed at how well she has done.

  • windmills

Congrats Kellie! I haven’t watched DWTS live this season except for the winner reveal but I’d always come to this blog to watch vid of her dances and a couple other standouts if there were any. I had a great feeling about her and this show when the announcement came and I couldn’t be happier about the way things have played out. Kellie has such a gift as a performer, it’s been great seeing her channel that in a different way.

I didn’t know much about Derek Hough before he partnered with Kellie but I had this impression of him as this guy who’d get into occasional showmances and so I wasn’t a fan. But he choreographed beautifully for Kellie. I really respect and admire the way he showcased her. Seeing him take inspiration from her and understand her the way he seems to made me rethink – I like and respect him now, not just as a dancer/choreographer, but as a person.

I would love for this win and Kellie’s enhanced star power to translate into country radio play for Kellie’s new single. Whether or not it does I see this DWTS stint opening up more opportunities in entertainment for Kellie.

“It’s good to know there are DWTS fans who prefer contemporary. Or maybe by the time the finals come around, they’re tired of the fast footwork or rigid body postures…”

sandry101, I’m not aware of the subtext, I just like to watch talented dancers do their thing. That Contemporary piece was gorgeous, but I also enjoyed when ever Kellie had the Jive or the Quickstep on the menu – because her fast footwork, kicks and flicks, were also excellent, IMO.

I thought that was what the professional choreographers were supposed to do – figure out their partner’s strengths and work to make them shine for the show? I think Derek is able to do that very well, but given a partner like Kellie – he is also able to use more eye catching (The Silhouette Argentine Tango) and challenging moves (The gravity-defying lean last night) …so Kudos for that to both of them.

This season was very enjoyable – IMO.

What a fantastic season! I am thrilled Kellie won. This has been one of the best seasons they’ve had in quite some time. What surprised me more than anything last night was Aly coming in fourth. I was sure it would be Jacoby.

  • kk

Well it was a rhetorical statement, really. lol.

  • PinkClouds20

I wanted Zendaya to win. She can dance circles around Kellie Pickler.
